This video was incredibly helpful! We are trying to decide between the two and this was exactly what we were looking for.
Thank you for taking the time to thoroughly demonstrate and review these two options!
What did you decide in the end?
Not looking for a doorbell camera, but this definitely has me thinking of whether or not I want one. Thanks for your in-depth analysis as usual and continue the excellent work!
Thank you. I appreciate it.
You REALLY should get one of these
Great reviews on everything. I'm looking at a camera and doorbell system. Right now I'm leaning towards the Eufy cams, and doorbells and have watched a lot of your videos. Thanks for all of the time and effort you put into all of the comparison videos. ~Pat
Just ordered the wired version after watching your video on it. Can’t wait to get it installed
1 month in and I really am impressed with the build and video quality. Glad I chose the dual cam version
Very helpful. These door cams can be a mine field. I'm glad you mentioned the differences between wired and battery. Definitely getting the battery version.
This is a great comparison video. Thanks! It's ashamed that Eufy doesn't support the homebase (3) or existing chimes with their wired doorbells, seems like they should be able too.
Definitely I will go for the wired one. Thanks for the comparison video now I can comfortably make my Decision.
Love your videos LifeHackster : 1) I agree with you about the criticisms you raised re the wired dual doorbell having the local storage on the phone, not in the Homebase like the battery version of the dual camera or the single camera battery version. 2) I definitely would prefer being able to use my existing mechanical chime like the single camera battery version, I don't see why the dual or single camera wired version doesn't give you this capability. 3) The far faster notification on the wired version of the dual camera is the very reason why you buy one of these things so that eliminates the battery version for me. But : unless or until the dual camera has a Homebase for local storage and allows me to use my existing chime, (though I could live with that if it had a Homebase,) I will either have to wait until Eufy does this or keep on looking.
Would be great to have another ecosystem review eventually, comparing the various options from each company. Thanks.
Another great review - so well done and helpful. Thank you.
Thank you for this excellent comparison video. I learned a lot!
Went with the wired one. Thanks for the review!
The video is much clearer both at day & night with the wired over the battery. So even if you wired in the battery it would still be blocky & less responsive as its the battery that still powers it. This is the same with the Ring Pro 2 & the battery Ring 4. What Eufy need to do is make the wired doorbell compatible with the Homebase storage inside the house so you still have footage even if someone steals the doorbell.
Thank you for this review. I will be getting the wired one.
You are welcome.
I got the wired dual after seeing your last video . Works great AI is good no false alarms
Yes, it’s AI is pretty spot on that I don’t even use the motion zones.
Super helpful good stuff man
You do excellent reviews! I'm leaning towards the wired version. (I actually want something that will detect small animals like cats. I wonder if package detection could be set to detect them!)
it's interesting that Eufy made them both with so many differences in function between them. combined they'd be one (almost) amazing doorbell camera but sadly each have some flaws that are kind of show stoppers for me to change over to.
Yes! Exactly. There's no clear winner IMO either.
It's like they deliberately are self-sabotaging the wired version which should be superior because it's hard wired. It's a bizarre company practice.
Yeah, why can’t the wired version just use existing chime? Why do I need the wireless chime plugged into an outlet?
@@unclerojelio6320 It's a stupid economical decision to save on adding an extra wire terminal, because the existing chime would reduce the power requirement for the camera if hooked up in series with the transformer like most wired doorbells are supposed to work, so they force you to short out the chime, therfore disabling it. But with an extra wire terminal you could power the camera directly from the transformer and the extra terminal is used to energize the existing chime.
Agreed, A wired version that connects to homebase so your files are safe and can support the existing chime would be perfect. Or if the battery one could match the wired pre roll and cooldown while wired would be great too and prob something they could fix in firmware
I think the battery version is the better buy for a few reasons.
1. You will eventually get HB3 support and with that you will have expandable storage, better AI, and if someone takes your doorbell your storage is safe in your home
2. If your home loses power your doorbell will keep working
3. You can connect your existing wiring (if you have them) to the battery version and continuously top off the battery so you won't have to charge it.
Ouhouhhh!!!! I think the same. However as this one does not come with a Chimes, if you connect the battery powered version to the wired system, will it works with the home chimes? Eufy Security Video Doorbell Dual Camera (Battery-Powered) with HomeBase, Wireless Doorbell Camera, Dual Motion and Package Detection, 2K HD
If you lost power,.. no internet, no WiFi...no home base.
@4u25out My modem and homebase are connected to a UPS so everything would stay functional during a power outage.
I have UPS backup power to all PCs, network devices cams, etc. Unfortunately my provider, FIOS, doesn't have power backup for their off property switches so the internet goes away with the rare area power outages even if the cams and doorbell still works.
@@4u25outYou can connect HB3 with router and modem to a UPS
Thanks for showing the notifications.
Wired outdoor + rich notifications + local backup on SD/SSD (24/7 for 1-7 days) + HomeKit native = always best.
I need to be able to monitor the streams/recordings through my AppleTV with Siri, but not necessarily record on HKSV.
Edit: Also, if an outdoor camera is wireless, users should be able to plug it to waterproof USB/AC + smart plug + schedule.
Are there any products that meet the criteria you have listed?
@@ScottSchramm The Eufy C24/P24 have what I need but it's not outdoor rated/waterproof.
The Aqara G2H/G3 also have what I need, but it's also not outdoor rated. This is a recurring theme.
Apple seems to think customers only want indoor nanny cameras.
The solution is a standard wired outdoor PoE camera + HomeBridge or Home Assistant or Scrypted + NAS.
For doorbells, none offer the specific options I've listed above.
The Ubiquiti or Amcrest might work. But the Ubiquiti requires a $200-500 controller and mods.
The two most reliable doorbells are Google Nest and Amazon Ring, and they require cloud subscriptions and modifications to use with Homekit. They do not allow local backup. Most people just buy the Logitech doorbell (as long as it's in the shade).
Apple doesn't make it easy (anymore) to just do what you want.
The delay in notification to your phone is because, although it is your Homebase that the doorbell communicates with, the Homebase contacts the corporate servers so that your smart phone can be informed by the corporate servers and of course any streaming is related through the corporate servers to your Homebase or from the cloud subscription, this is due to the numerical IO translation a router would do (which can be bypassed for select devices and services on the routers advanced administration or bypassed by the application through UPnP which really you should disable as viruses can use that protocol too) and your mobile is expected to be outside your home network. There is probably a timeout such that the corporate servers will ignore the second doorbell press notification from your Homebase as it would just assume it is a bounce hence the lack of response from pressing the other doorbell. We used to have to put denounce wait loops in all our programs back in the 70's and earlier but now it's all in the libraries so the debounce timeout might not even be intentional by the application programmers.
this guy, listen to this guy
Good point on the cool-off situation with the battery version. I can understand why it stopped its recording however, given its a battery powered camera. So maybe Eufys solution should be to try and give a custom cool-off option on it. Something very short so if a thief ran up shortly after the delivery, they would get caught. I don't know what the "perfect" solution would be for this.
You can set custom recording but even then you can only lower down the interval/cool off to 5 seconds.
Incredibly informative
The Audio sounds poorer with the wired to me. Great vid thanks for doing this, it has been most helpful.
I’m presently using the original battery doorbell with Homebase 2 and hard wired with a plug-in transformer. I’m thinking of upgrading to the dual camera version, and it would seem sensible to go for the battery version again, which you can buy as an ‘add-on’ and hard wire it, which means I can still use the existing Homebase. Also means that I can eventually convert the Homebase 2 to a Homebase 3 as and when the Dual becomes compatible.
Amazing content
Thanks
Hey LifeHackster what’s good buddy? Your reviews are very informative, & helpful. Really appreciate what you do.
Quick question, can two eufy video doorbells be connected to the same app, & ring the chime? For example if I want to put a doorbell at the front & back door.
It would be nice if it recorded to the chime. I will be waiting for your review of the Ezviz DB1C and the reolink. Thanks for another in depth review.
That would have been a better option to have a secured recordings.
Any recommendations for battery operated door bell door anti-theft mounts that are compatible with the package detection / dual camera?
Thanks for the helpful video. So the wired version will not work with my existing chime? Bummer
My opinion is that the one on batteries is more practical, I live at home and I have a fence around the house, the distance to the door from the gate being 30m! So without pulled cables, the battery version is the most eligible for me!
If you have an existing Eufy home-base can you save any pictures and videos on it for the wired version?
Thank you for your review. I was set to buy a eufy wired doorbell camera but not if it doesn’t record to my Homebase 3 with expandable storage. Also not sure why they remove the chime, how am I supposed to hear it if I don’t have my phone with me? Silly
So if you wire in the battery powered one does it eliminate the delay & cool off time or does it remain the same?
Hi, have you got a full review on the Eufy Security Video Smart Lock? Would like your thoughts on it please
Thank you.
Do you have comparation of Eufy wired and reolink wired doorbell, if not, that would be nice to have
Thanks for the compare. I just started looking into Eufy and don't understand their ecosystem (or lack of). So the wired doorbells only support on-device storage, and the battery doorbells only support HomeBase(2?) storage? If that's true, someone just needs to smash or pry off the wired doorbell and you have zero footage.. but same scenario with the battery versions and you'd have that footage from your indoor storage device?
Do any of these doorbell units also have a tabletop or wall mounted video display? How do households with 5 people handle the need for anyone at home to see who's at the door?
The battery powered has the option to connect it to your existing power. There are screw terminals on the back. I don't know if this was recently added.
hello, nice video. I have still a quesion/ can I wire up de wireless doorbell, because at the back, I see on photo's online, there are wiring contacts present?
I am currently trying to decide whether to go with a eufy homebase3 system or a more professional, wired system with an NVR. The more professional one is pricier, but only by a couple hundred bucks, so I am wondering if you have thoughts on this subject. I am looking at the Proview system which would run me about $400 more than a comparable eufy setup.
Ok I got my answer. The battery version can work with the existing chimes. Thank you
hey @LifeHackster , how does this compare with the Lorex 2k video doorbell? Both are are subscription free and the Lorex 2k has color nightvision.
your channel has been so much help on my purchase of Eufy cameras.
I'm planning on using a 12V 2A UPS to power the Homebase during a blackout. Do you know the size/type of the barrel connection?
What happens when you wire the battery one? . Does it work like the wired?
Hi fantastic video again still can’t buy the wired version on Amazon UK 🇬🇧 yet can order it on Amazon US they do deliver to the UK 🇬🇧 I have to pay £30 more that’s what I am going to do
Hello sir.. the Eufy Dual Cam Doorbell Wired doesn't offer 24/7 recording even if you subscribe to their cloud plan. I mean, it will say it is not supported for a 24/7 cont recording after I subscribed to their plan.. just pointing it out.
I hope they'll offer this on future updates.
The single cam 2k pro eufy doorbell is the only eufy that offers 24/7 recording but I like having that dual cam for the extra vision on your packages.
Please tell me what is that awesome light changing color lamp on your wall? Thanks. Also, great review as usual.
Great video! I have a couple questions if anyone is able/willing to answer. If both devices were the same prices, which would be preferred? Does anyone know if the battery motion detection and notifications have been improved?
I have the battery version wired to my doorbell wires to keep a constant charge. I have both a Homebase E and Homebase 2. The information states that you need to connect to the Homebase 2. I tested with the Homebase E and it works. The only thing I was unable to do is set schedules for Package Guarding and Ring Auto-Response. I could only set either the start time or the end time but not both. I don't know if that has to do with it being connected to my Homebase E. I will connect it to my Homebase 2 and see if that may be the cause.
It might be the homebase..eufy just needs to update it if they plan for it to be fully compatible with their dual doorbells.
As this one does not come with a Chimes, if you connect the battery powered version to the wired system, will it works with the home chimes? Eufy Security Video Doorbell Dual Camera (Battery-Powered) with HomeBase, Wireless Doorbell Camera, Dual Motion and Package Detection, 2K HD
Has anyone noticed a difference in the speaker and mic quality? It seems like the quality is better on the battery model, maybe because the case is bigger? Otherwise the wired version seems perfect, just not sure how I feel by the lesser audio quality.
Love these videos! Debating between Eufy and Ring camera security systems and I agree that wired is much better. Can Eufy or Ring show movement from the Flood light cameras or Doorbell cameras on a countertop display like an Echo Show 10 without much interaction? I want something silimar to a CCTV system where I can see what's going on a display that is in the living room while I am across the room. Keep up these videos!
Ring recently increased their subscription price by around 30% so that's something to consider
I seem to have an issue with my Logitech which rarely works but works fine when plugged into to power cable in home. I’m assuming issue with powered wires for doorbel outside so hopefully battery doorbell will finally get me some notifications
Can you use battery powered doorbell for triggered automated recording? I am talking about security automation when motion triggers sensor/other camera and other camera records?
I have the eufy 2c cameras and Homebase 2. By adding this doorbell, should that connect as well to the Homebase 2?
I would always go with the wired version but my dumb doorbell is off to the side and I'm not sure if that 15 degree base will cut it.
Can you please compare Wired Eufy doorbell vs the Lorex wired version?
Probably just me but, seems like the video examples between wired and battery are getting switched. Looks like the colorful clear brick wall video shows at different times for both wired and battery cameras?
Can you send the images of the wired to your homebase?
Giving in essence your wired version which seems overall better (except maybe audioquality?), more storage.
If the battery version is wired in will it still have the cool down period?
Can i connect this dual camera doorbell (with Homebase 3) to the existing wires as a backup to its battery?
Which BRAND is your favorite wired doorbell cam? TY Great review
I have the regular 2k eufy battery powered doorbell camera, I'm thinking of ordering the eufy dual doorbell wired, because man the battery powered doorbell has left a bad taste, i have to charge that thing every 3weeks so my next one will be wired.
I bought the Eufy Dual Doorbell 2K in February this year knowing that the software release was due in March 2023 so that the doorbell will then work with Homebase. 3. There's nothing worse than having two home bases and a doorbell that can't recognize familiar faces. I got an email today from Eufy stating that there will be no firmware update for this doorbell for the next 2 to 3 months. I, along with many other customers, would feel very let down with this new information.
which one does nonstop continous 24/7 recording locally? thanks!
If motion is detected does it have a chime on the base or just show on device?
Well, shoot...I just bought the battery version and already unpacked it... Wish I would have seen this review before.
That cool down issue even when wired is a problem, so are the slower notifications...
i like the wired is there a monthly payment or fee or just the app for the phone
Curious on the battery life. How often do you need to charge it.
Great video as always,
Are the speakers quiet on yours ?
When I spoke with people through the battery version doorbell they said it was quiet, I made sure all volumes were up full and tested it out myself and if any traffic is driving past you can barely hear it and have the put your ear close to the doorbell, is this normal for this model or should I be getting a replacement ?
Both speakers are Ok on mine…not too loud…not to quiet either.
@@LifeHackster thank you, I will contact eufy 👍
I would like to buy the wired version but I can’t possibly find it anywhere (UK)
I thought this was only available as battery, now I see there is a wired version, but it only has 8GB memory and doesn't record continuous. The non dual has 32GB memory and records continuous for 5 days. weird it doesn't work with indoor chime but maybe it's better since the next uses a super capacitor to boost the power for a button press but isn't that reliable and if you push the button multiple times it may not have enough reserve, if you have a seperate chime maybe this isn't an issue.
I don't understand the thinking that the product developers at Eufy utilize. The wired version should work with the existing chime! It makes no sense that the battery operated one does and the wired one doesn't, that is literally backwards of how it should be. Also, why would they make the battery operated one work with homebase and not the wired? Eufy saves room removing the battery, why remove the wifi connect ability to homebase also? Again, that is literally backwards of how it should be. They deliberately made the wired version have faults that it doesn't need to have. It's like they don't want to make a product that does everything well, it's so self-sabotaging. Those lithium batteries are not good for the environment, the mining nor the disposing, so Eufy should be promoting the wired version more and making it better than the battery version but nope, they nerf the wired version instead to make a better product worse so their battery version looks better than it is.
The battery version can trickle charge off the old mechanical doorbell wiring of 24 VAC (older homes can have this down as low as 9 VAC) but that's only because the battery can handle high peak loads when streaming. The wired version can draw enough current to act as a closed circuit to trigger the mechanical doorbell even when the doorbell has not been pressed so it either needs a separate power supply from the traditional wiring or have the mechanical chime disconnected or simply have high powered features such as WiFi out. At least that's my take from my battery version that's wired in showing a battery drop if I stream for a long period of time.
Ring doorbell is able to use the tradition hardwired chime or their remote wifi plug-in chime. Eufy's wired Dual Video Doorbell with all its innovation should be able to do the same!
Issue is also that the battery one doesn’t have the 3 seconds pre event recording. So.. a lot of critical information is not recorded.
can you use the old chimes on the new battery dual cameras?
Do you know of any door mounts for the battery powered one?
My new eufy dual camera doorbell battery won’t connect to homebase 2 the doorbell is showing green light solid not blinking fully charged 7 hours I tried 28 times to set up with homebase 2 doesn’t work now I have to return it faulty unit and getting new replacement I am so upset why won’t it connect I hold the scan button till I hear a one beap and after nothing happens won’t connect no sound it says unable to connect to the device please try again I reset both devices and I reset both devices still no connecting what the heck is eufy doing with there product 😫
Hey LifeHackster! Long time subscriber here! Do you still recommend one of these eufy dual doorbell cams? Which one do you recommend? I have 3 eufy wired cameras currently. Does the homebase work with them also? I would like to upgrade my 4-5 year old doorbell camera and considering one of these eufy's.
I recommend wired cameras or doorbells vs battery powered ones. Unfortunately, the wired one doesn't work with the homebase at this time..just the battery powered ones.
What are the specific models of these, are they the E340 and S330?
Brought the wired version, non dual but it stopped working after a couple of months. The process for getting a replacement is not good, they wanted a copy of the receipt and even suggested they would only send the replacement after getting the old one back, but were making an exception in my case. Hopefully they won't pull a fast one and say they didn't find an issue with the old one so they had to charge me, but good luck collecting since I didn't buy it direct from them so they don't have my cc or account they can report on to credit bureaus or I can file fraud claim I guess. I had a smart lock that wasn't working right replaced by a different brand and the process was straightforward, they did not want the old item back (probably not really worth it to send a pre paid shipping label).
Hi. Can battery version also be hard wired? As this has two screws at the back..
How do I know if the wireless doobell is charged? My app shows 100% but the battery bars are still moving like it's charging.
Does anyone have this doorbell and notice a slight color difference between the top and bottom camera?
As of May 2024 does everything that you say still apply to these two doorbells?
Do you need the home base or does it have a sd card or something to allow it to work without the home base?
If you have the battery version wired, does the improve the notifications speed? I wonder if it will record 3 sec ahead of time like the wired version? I like the idea of it recording on home base.
No it will not. It will still function as a battery powered one.
@@LifeHackster That's so dumb
If you wire the battery version does it still need charging?
Can’t find the wired one in the uk please help
I have a question for you, if you get a moment. I purchased the Home base 3 fro Eufy but cannot get it to record any clips. I was in touch with Eufy and they tried to help but told me that someone on RUclips may be able to help me. I connected and formatted it but it always shows 475GB available and total 500MG. That's it. Any advice or help you can provide. I want to install the Eufy doorbell but I am hesitating now?
Thank you.
The dual camera battery version of the doorbell is not yet compatible with Homebase 3 (if that's the one you have).
It would have been handy if you gave some info on battery life. How long does a single charge typically last?
Very thorough video, thank you 😊
Can the battery be left installed in the doorbell if you do the wired installation (just in case of power outage)?
Yes and also this model of eufy doorbell has a built in battery. So you really cannot remove it.
@@LifeHackster thank you for your answer 😊
with 6 security cameras and a Eufy Dual Cam Video Doorbell. Do I need a WiFi Extender ? What WiFi Extender is Best ?
Can you now turn the night time lights?
Nobody mentioned that the Eufy wired does not record 2 way conversation. I just found that out after setting everything up. 😢 So crazy it doesn't!
ruclips.net/video/TXzxr9bhkqs/видео.htmlsi=GKQn1it1KiZVNUTp&t=609
Now with the Homebase 3 compatibility for the battery version, do you think the results might be different?
The motion detection performance will always be better with a true wired in video doorbell because it uses camera based detection instead of PIR motion sensor which all battery doorbells and cameras are using.
If the battery version would capture 3s pre-buffer when wired in, it would be perfect.
I have the S330 wired but won’t be keeping because: The S330 wired is only compatible with the chime that comes with it and not compatible with Eufy’s “Add-On Chime”. The only way to get a compatible chime for the S330 wired is to purchase another S330 cam & chime kit. The S330 will support up to 4 chimes but you would have to buy 4 S330 kits to get them. Also the S330 wired is not compatible with the Eufy Homebase 3.
Mine won't snap into the baseplate, at all , set up is easy, but the baseplate don't connect to the doorbell itself
is the wired version not available anymore??
