And btw, it’s the AI (artificial intelligence) they are afraid of with Billie, which he ironically learned about from Musk. Education.
I don't understand how "they wrote a song about tiktok" when they quite literally just say it a single time and that's it lol
I love how your not afraid to make fun of both political sides. I'm Conservative but can very easily see that there's cringe and hypocrisy on both sides
I feel the same way, I think that so many political circles feel so un-self aware and humorless
@@PrisPrivate The difference in liberal and conservative is the libs think they represent America and the conservatives, know they don't represent us
It used to be that way back then, we all could agree that almost all politicians suck and laugh at them.
@@RafitoOoO yes, thank you. that's true punk. No one is on my side and i'm not on theirs
Most people lean one way or the other, but are not necessarily deeply liberal or deeply conservative. There are a lot of people who make the division seem deeper than it is. Political pundits are basically paid to do just that.
Literally saying “TikTok” will age this song in a few years but mindlessly scrolling, trend chasing and algorithms keeping us in bubbles is a genuine problem. Social media in whatever form or app has its benefits but it’ll always have it pitfalls

Can't wait for the album, with this standard of music we are going to get some epic tracks, tracklist is already released on wiki
21st century breakdown is criminally underrated
I slept on it when it came out , only listened to 21 guns and know your enemy after father of all I went back and listened and loved it so much
Sounds way more promising than Father Of All Motherfuckers.
"TikTok and Taxes" good one!
Nothing too revolutionary but okay enough. Waiting for their album.
"Tiktok and taxes" is going to sound more and more cringe the more and more distant in time you get from the release of this song 😂
@@unthenner5519yeah but little do they know about the problems lol, but then why not RUclips lol?
“That album could have used some Swedish songwriters” great comment in the live chat
Genuine question, why do you never mention Insomniac whenever talking about Green Day? Is there a specific reason? Legit one of their harder albums.
I second this comment. Its a damn shame. Great album.
Their best album
*_It’s their best album._*
Forgettable album tbh
what's with the sudden influx of insomniac hipster nerds lately?
I loved the new songs I’ve heard, especially the song “Look Ma no Brains”( sounds like old school Green Day) It’s so much better than the last album, can’t wait to check out the entire thing
Revolution Radio was really good all the way through imo and has a lot of great songs, that album was within the last 10 years.
Agreed, very underrated album
Too Dumb to Die is the best song on that album in my opinion.
Oof that album was really really unlistenable bad.
Loved RR Say Goodbye and Still Breathing were brilliant songs
Not just me then.@@IIMIKEYMOII
I think it's solid. Sonically a return to form. The bummer about green day for me is the disappearance of Mike's bass licks that permeate, even dominate, the old stuff. American idiot is where this started going away as they got "tighter". And in punk, unlike your mom, tighter is not always better. But I do like this song. Excited for the album
💀😂 Nice, love this comment. ❤
American Idiot is also where they started recording the guitars before the bass, because they learned that The Beatles did it. I think that has something to do with it. I remember Mike said "it doesn't fit our style now" but idk, it fit on the Trilogy imo
@volutedmetal8543 that's interesting. And sad.
Dude, yes! Mike's subtle, nuanced bass playing is what always stood out to me on their 90s records. Insomniac was FILLED with these and it just pops. Cemented him as a top punk bassist, in my eyes. It's a shame we don't get that anymore
I totally agree about Mike's bass lines missing those dynamics, creative fluidity and just going for a fun wonder from AI. I'd also say similar about Tre's drumming choices as well, not being as wild and inventive in the fills and the nuanced hooks that would really contribute to a song. Sure sometimes, restraint can serve a song, (which they claimed) but had become detractive phase where it stopped songs being fresher and taking them up a level. Thankfully, I've noticed both the Mike and Tre bringing these elements back on some songs and even Billie Joe too in his playing and the overal band compositions, but I would love to hear even more and some extra experimentation really. But Saviors is a start and return there.
Green Day always hold a spot in my top 8 favorite bands of all time
Top 8? :) That’s an odd number. No hate though, just made me giggle :)
Why they stink
@@Intz51 lol yea I’m random like that, they were the band that got me into music for the most part. It’s just so hard to give a solid placement since my top 5-10 are always swapping but they are super close to my top 5.
@@nightcorerj6024 they smell fine to me…
The first 7 albums are good, after that I have not heard something trully good, maybe one song here and there. I really don't like their style now.
the main issue with the musical is that Armstrong was not the vocal director of it at all and so the actors are being taught how to sing the songs like a musical instead of being taught how to sing punk in a musical setting. just watching the st. jimmy performances where Armstrong plays jimmy and the ones where he doesn't really proves this.
The punk/metal culture back when American Idiot came out was very anti-authority. Sometime in the last few years, the punk/metal culture has completely flipped and been very abiding by and not questioning authority. Present day punk/metal culture is cringe as fuck.
Youve never heard Motionless in White then.
I don’t think it’s just that. I think punk/metal bands are trying to update their sound and their attitude to appeal to the younger generation, which doesn’t seem very anti-authority to begin with, and so the change in culture is more a product of that.
@@pickles224 Like I said you havent heard MIW or Knocked Loose.
Rock isn’t dangerous anymore.
There is a difference between questioning authority and thinking that everyting you don't like is fake. Conservative is cringe
Id feel way better if Greenday never made another song, album or ever tour again
Finn is the epitome of the old guy still trying to be young hip and cool
He often forgets that he's old too
@luke5100 yes, only came here for the GD review.
You upset he made fun of your political side lil bro?
The difference is having the self-awareness to realize it.
Just like Green Day
Punk today has manufactured attitude. I’m disappointed in both sides of the political spectrum and I miss the days that music was too. Seeing a band complain about Tik Tok while promoting their tik tok in the description of their video to me sums up why punk music doesn’t feel the same anymore.
it doesn't feel authentic when its one sided. If you're mad about the system than you have to be mad at both sides. as soon as you take a side, you are part of the problem
@@benjaminwatt2436What music has always had a left bend to it especially punk
They werent complaining about it they were more just referencing its huge part that it plays in the modern generation.
Yeah, we're seeing censorship around the world at levels that we haven't seen in ages and none of the punk bands have anything to say about it. Instead Billie Joe parrots the establishment government complaints of conspiracy theories. Pretty lame.
They didnt complain about tik tok what you on
The song is decent. I'd say a "safe" first single. It feels very 21st Century Breakdown and on style Green Day. Like it doesn't sound any different than anything else they've put out in the last 15 years. Right down to the main riff and all. I hope the album has some more energy and fun infused into it. That's what is so great about the new blink-182 album. Regardless, I'm looking forward to some new Green Day music.
It feels very 80's especially with the cow bell, it's really good but definitely very Green Day.
yeah man, as a long-time fan since 1994, I gotta say that they've been getting pretty formulaic with their songwriting. Even the terrible last album that was I guess more experimental was still pretty formulaic as far as songwriting goes.

"Father of All..." was to Green Day like what "St.Anger" was to Metallica.

Billy Joe looks like the "I like turtles"-kid with his zombie-paint. Now I cannot unsee.
Seriously, I had to check the lyrics once I heard "Tik Tok". I was like, "That's not actually what they said, right?". It's one sure-fire way to make your song sound dated or out of context for future generations.
Yeah but the Tik tok bit is so passing it doesn’t matter. It’s a catch all for social media and is part of a larger lyrical thought. This is like saying people that talked about walkmans in the 90’s were cringe. It’s what it is. Things age.
Can’t help but feel like green day are they kind of people that say “ today’s music is garbage” and l only listen to the one radio station
The album has a whole song about yoga retreats
My favorite part is when Billie Joe is singing Basketcase while they are removing his zombie mask for this video!!!
That TikTok meltdown was hilarious
I'll never be able to grasp how it's more cringe to mention TikTok in a song than actually owning the app unironically
As a stage IV terminal Green Day meat rider, Billie Joe's descent into boomerism is an area of interest for me, because I think it goes hand in hand with his crippling garage rock addiction. I mark Foxboro Hottubs as the beginning of the spiral, an otherwise innocuous garage rock side project in their massive arena rock era. It started to get worse during the trilogy era, as Finn points out with "Kill the DJ", but there's garage rock all over those records. I think that writing three full albums that ultimately weren't that well received led to a period of dormancy in Rev Rad, although the somewhat one-note political theming was back to American Idiot levels. As we know, Father of All was a complete descent into depravity, between the out of touch boomerism and the overwhelming 60s sound. I still hope that Father of All really was just cranked out to fulfill their Warner contract, but this doesn't give me a lot of hope. It sounds like the song writing process used to be far more collaborative, and I think that's what they need.
Edit: Upon 2nd or 3rd listen it's grown on me. I think the coming album has the potential to be exponentially better than Father of All, and prove that the latter was a fluke.
For the record, I liked a lot of the trilogy, Rev Rad, and even some of Father of All lmao
Yeah I probably agree with you about Foxboro Huttubs being the start of the spiral. I've always found it strange that after releasing one of their most successful albums ever they didn't take that momentum forward and instead wasted time on a mediocre side project. It's almost like they didn't know how to handle the success. I also think 21CB was pretty mediocre overall.
Not sure why it’s “boomerism” to criticize things when you get older, but I guess that’s what happens.
The trilogy was a painful time. Revolution had a few good songs. I couldn't make it through Father of All with even one full listen. I like the energy of this song, but the lyrics feel really cliche at this point. They need to reinvent themselves again. I want another album like Nimrod that was all over the place with different genres. That was also my first album so I'm a bit biased.
@@dormammusubjective5774You're correct in that they need another reinvention. I kinda hope they make another AI but they probably don't have it in 'em.
Dude... it was literally one mention of Tiktok. Get over it. That's not what the whole song is about. Talk about being an alarmist.
This song sounds like if you asked some AI bot to write you a Green Day song. Middle of the road to the extreme (like you need an electron microscope to see how precisely middle of the road it is)
yeah exactly. my mind shut off as soon as i heard the song start and i clicked off when i heard the chorus. even the song title is ai-like. "american" idiot glory.
@@salinaember9527 Come on man, this lyrical content is fresh and groundbreaking stuff! There's never been a left-winger who's complained about conspiracy theories at all in the last 8 years!😂 Can't wait to hear the song ridiculing anti-maskers, Green Day always ahead of their time...😏
I completely missed the tiktok line lmao. Well sonically it’s a lot more Green Day which I love we just gotta wait for the rest of the album. I didn’t think Father Of All was that bad either, clearly they tried something different and it didn’t work but I’ll never fault a band for experimenting with a new sound. Anyway hope the album is good.
I feel like if Green Day were watching the news, they might see that there are places in the world worth complaining about that aren't America.
Trump derangement syndrome is tragic
The sad part is the album before the last one called “Revolution Radio” was a cool return to the Warning era and then they released “Father Of All.”

Honestly, I kind of think that this song is their least liberal-agenda pushing song in awhile. They're talking about how chasing money and social media fame is making people numb and hollow. I think that's a message most people, regardless of their politic stance, could get behind. Just my take.

My main complaint about this song is that it's too slow, which would be OK if it had a slow song vibe, but if feels like it's a slow song because they can't play as fast as they used to.
My opinions on Green Day albums as a random person on RUclips.
1,039/sloppy hours: Good album. It's not like hardcore punk but not like pop punk either. It sounds a bit like Operation Ivy (They covered Knowledge on this album) I would say this is definitely one of the best debut records I've heard. Although the production was kinda mid.
Kerplunk: Definitely a Top 5 Green Day album. 10/10. Wouldn't skip a track on this album. I know I'm wrong but I like their cover of "My Generation" better than The Who's to be honest (I love both). Production was better than 10,39/Sloppy hours although it's definitely not as good as their next albums.
Dookie: This album changed everything. This album popularized pop punk. This album was made for the teens with short attention spans and anger issues. Which is why the songs on this album are typically around 3 minutes and sound very angsty. I feel like many pop punk bands were inspired because of this album and it's definitely their best 90's album no doubt.
Insomniac: Sounds a lot like Dookie. Another 10/10 no skip album.
Nimrod: Yet another 10/10 no skip album. "Redundant" is one of the very rare Green Day tracks with guitar pedals in it and it's kinda an overlooked track. Don't give me wrong I love "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" but I feel like there are more better and more underrated tracks like "The Grouch", "Take Back", and "Scattered"
Warning: I personally like this album. However, It's not anything like their previous albums which is why it's underrated. Billie didn't want to make more pop punk tracks because he didn't like the sound of other late 90's pop punk bands. This album is a folk punk album and I would say it's my favorite folk punk album because a lot of folk punk singers sound like dying rats and I only like very few folk punk bands.
American Idiot: This album is the album that brought back Green Day's dying career. What I like about this album is how they bring up political issues. Most pop punk bands whine about some girl. While Green Day goes back to their hardcore roots and bring up issues with war. Specifically the Iraq War which at the time was controversial to talk about and could have risked the bands career.
21st Century Breakdown: This album is the reason why I hate when people say "I hate every album past American Idiot". This album is just an underrated American Idiot. Instead of the St. Jimmy/Jesus of Suburbia plot, we have the Christian and Gloria storyline. Instead of political anthems like "American Idiot" and "Holiday", we have more political anthems like "21 Guns" and "Know Your Enemy".
Trilogy: In my opinion, this is when Green Day started going downhill. Uno was a 10/10 album in my opinion and Tre had a few good tracks too. However, most of the tracks on Tre are kinda bad and Dos is probably the 2nd worst Green Day album. I don't like a single track on Dos. The trilogy is poorly written to me. They sound like a bunch of middle aged men with kids who act like teenagers.
Revolution Radio: This album reminds me of the term "Indian summer". An Indian summer is typically when the weather is cold but then it's warm for brief period before it becomes cold again. Imagine what I'm saying here is cold = bad and warm = good. The Trilogy was a cold album but then they released this very warm fresh out of the oven masterpiece. I really liked "Still Breathing". It's very confident and I'm gonna get through this type of anthem. It sounds a lot like Elton John's "I'm Still Standing" lyrically. I hope their next album while include tracks more like "Still Breathing". Because that track has personally been there for me when I was dealing with rough times.
Father of All: This album was basically like a rock version of Harry's House to me. It just sounds like goofy commercial 21 pilots type rock to me. Just like how Harry's House sounds like goofy commercial pop music.
Thoughts on the new single: It definitely sounds like a Halloween themed 21st Century again. I hope Green Day's new album definitely has more inspiration from their older tracks and continue to rock on with their genuine sound.
I 100% agree
The play was fucking great dude.

The TikTok line was great in my opinion! It is relevant and it’s an sarcastic example of how social media is harming us.
I agree. I don’t think people realize how many people live in TikTok. They get all their entertainment/news from there. People only being able to hold their attention for short clips.

It makes sense, their fan base is people from the suburbs.
Billie Joe hasn’t left since his little fit that he was moving to Canada. TO ME, after the warning album, they lost touch.
The signs that cracks were starting to show first appeared during Nimrod. The string of Kerplunk/Dookie/Insomniac was flawless.

i’m preparing myself, as a protective green day fan.
I will never forgive green day fans for breaking green day. Warning was so good and a logical trajectory for an aging and maturing punk band. But everyone hated it and they over corrected HARD and have never stopped.
WHAT. Really? This is funny because Warning was literally the first time I'd heard Green Day, or even any rock song to be fair! I loved it, not so much Dookie/Kerplunk/Insomniac at the time but do now. Even in 2004 I thought American Idiot title song was a bit cringe though lol, but the rest of the album was legendary. But yeah Warning is great
I don’t think this guy gets the advertising with ‘Father of All…’ Yeah the billboards and ads were cringy. But they were supposed to be! That album wasn’t meant to be good. They wrote a half assed album just to get out of their record contract. All the interviews about the album too were super tongue in cheek. You could tell they didn’t care. They jokingly made stupid and cringy and over the top stuff with advertisements so it just seemed even more cringe! They were like “Fine. If we HAVE to advertise this shit then we’re gonna be as stupid as possible!” Not to mention it fit in with all the joke comments about how it’d be their “Best album”. They obviously didn’t think that but they had to talk it up. So they did so in a way that made it clear “We don’t care about this album! We have to do this”
sounds like a massive cope.

This has gotta be one of Finn’s best reaction videos. He’s on fire right from the get go and keeps it going throughout. Great video!
I don’t think they have control over the marketing. They probably didn’t even know that billboard exists.
As for the TikTok line, it’s both cringe and relevant. I gather most of the audience here is older and not really on TikTok. But at the risk of sounding out of touch, TikTok is where the new generation lives. They don’t watch movies or shows. They get all of their entertainment from TikTok. It’s kinda sad that people only have the attention span for short clips. So it’s a fair criticism. But I digress.
this is the funniest video you’ve ever made, i was dyin
honestly I think its a great and original song. You can get behind the hooks and melodies with just a single listen, very cool.
It feels like Democratic Grandpa Rock now. Like, they peaked at the Simpsons Movie cameo and never looked back.
Just saw Green Day at WWWY. They were great but I definitely haven’t kept up with anything they’ve put out after American Idiot. Honestly everything newer kind of just sounds like American Idiot bonus tracks.
The Dior jonhydepp ad was what RUclips algorithm put me before this video no bs dude wtf 😂
I fell off after American Idiot with Green Day. It's really unfortunate but I 100% agree with you Finn Green Day has become the boomer democrat dad rock band. And any time Billie hears they get called punk or anything he flips out and rage rants on Twitter. Even this song just sounds like a rehash of the stuff they've been doing the last 10 years. I'm still holding out hope they come back to a true return to form tho. Maybe some day.
If you read the comments on the actual music video you can tell that that is exactly what their fanbase is lol. God I miss old Green Day
Glad someone else is saying it. The reactions to this new song online seem to be overwhelmingly positive, but to me it sounds kind of predictable and formulaic. And of course the bogeyman of mainstream leftists over the last few years has been "conspiracy theories" and right on cue here comes Billie complaining about em. Entirely predictable.
Ignorance is a bliss, because I'm from Brazil, I don't speak English fluently, I like music for the melodies, and I dont' know about Billie Joe's political views, and whatever it is, I don't care anyway :D
He is an imposter. There are 1,039 miles in between Green Bay and Jacksonville, Florida in a straight drawn line. That’s me on the front of that album in a wig and my Moms dress. She did that to me because she knew my music was being ripped off. That’s normal.

Finn… people put official music video at the end because a lot of times they'll do lyric videos or visualizer video. So they want you to know that it is the actual official video😂
21CB vibes for sure
probably best green day I've heard since American Idiot.
I really don't like anything past insomniac, which sucks because I absolutely adore kerplunk-insomniac.
Same. I was OBSESSED with Green Day as a kid. Heard Basket Case when I was 8 years old and instantly became a super fan. I still liked Nimrod at the time but that was the first time I recognized that these guys weren't infallible gods lmao. Warning was terrible. American Idiot had some bangers that recaptured the old energy, songs like Letterbomb and Whatsername. it's been all pretty much downhill again since 21st Century Breakdown.
Also to say something about Billie…he kinda does this with Green Day but doesn’t seem to do it anywhere else. He literally like chills and drinks beer with us when he does his side projects…I’ll tell a small story and leave this here:
During the opening night of the musical, I randomly ran into one of Billies kids in the hallway. He was wearing a shirt that had an ad for a show that was his band, Emily’s Army, and Green Day’s most recent (very cool and btw Finn you should HELLA review all of Green Day’s and Billie Joe’s side projects, there’s a ton of them and a bunch of them are good) side project, “The Foxboro Hottubs”.
So I asked him, “when was this?” And he told me it’s tomorrow night. So I immediately go and tell the rest of the ppl who would wanna know this info and we all head to that venue to literallly just celebrate together, get fucked up all night, eat pizza, and have a great time.
The next night rolls around and everyone is STILL partying hard. I then watch the band arrive. Shortly after, they wheeled in. 2 dollys. Full of PBR tall boys. I think it was the equivalent of about 500 beers. There were only 300 of us in the audience.
At some point during this INSANE show at the Bowery Electric btw in New York City which is a TINY club. They start cracking beer and handing them out. We were almost all underage. No one gave a fuck. Billies guitar tech Hans was laughing outside about cuz everyone kept puking. It was REAL punk rock.
Oh, and Bill Murray and Joan Jett were there so got to say hi to them too. And the entire cast of the musical was there, and the show went on from midnight until 5 am. Billie got so hammered we ran out of covers and he just started playing Green Day.
So despite the Green Day YOU all get to see? Yeah thats not the sauce lolll. Billie is as punk as ever. You just have to go to a “Coverups” show in California, or you would have to catch him on one of his side project stints to really see it.
Also. Fucking a. At least Green Day can actually perform. All of their music. With no tracks. And no auto tune. Blink can’t even play Adam’s song, but I’m pretty sure Billie can do basket case just as well as he did 30 years ago.
That is all. This has been my Green Day Ted Talk.
Blink 182 and Green Day pumping out new songs? 16 year old me would roll my eyes, but my middle aged self is kind of here for it now.

I love Green Day. But I'm not digging this. I think it's a little tone-deaf to criticize the "American Dream" when they're 100 percent products of it. Your concert tickets cost how much? You've sold how many albums? Yeah, that's what I thought. Sit down!
lmao last time I saw em live they were selling t-shirts that cost a couple of bucks to make for 50$ a pop. Hypocrites!
Green Day reminds me of myself when I got into politics at 13 🤔
I think Green Day need to just pack it in and become a legacy act. The well is so dry people wanna do a charity event.
TikTok is just mentioned but that isn't really what the song is about. My take of the lyrics is about how the American Dream dead and corrupted. At one point the American Dream was ideal that all could strive for, but today you have thousands of people that are homeless, people are barely making it by do to inflation and high taxes. You have to kill yourself to live the American Dream in this time and place.
There is the line in the lyrics "Bulldoze your family home, now it's a condo". This is referencing how many of the major cities won't allow single family homes to be built anymore. They are only allowed to build condos instead.
The lyrics "From sea to shining sea, ..... , my country under siege, on private property." I believe is about how we can no longer own our own property anymore. That it's all owned by the government, or you are forced to live in a condo or other rented living space that is owned by someone else. The American Dream of working hard, owning your own home and living a happy life is dead.
Enjoying your channel more with each video. I echo your Green Day sentiments
Thank you!
This song sounds like a Christmas song
I just love your humour Im laughing my ass off spot on 😂
All I can hear with this song is that several parts have the same melody as "The First Noel" and I can't un-hear it.
I might have to catch a stream one of these days after watching this one.
It sounds like they made an AI listen to 1,000 hours of Green Day and had it write a song. They are going through the motions at this point.
Yes! Very formulaic! And while the anti-American lyrics hit home in the era of the Iraq war, at this point it just feels tired and predictable and done to death. I guess they're trying to regain some of that American Idiot popularity again.
Green Day's biggest problem has always been Billy isn't nearly as smart, or as hard, as he thinks he is.
Says you. He definetly aint dumb (at least lyrics wise he has shown multiple times to be pretty deep for a punk Singer) and he is exactly as hard as he needs to be.
And Green Day is for big government control by the career establishment politicians with help of mainstream media and big tech
