I use Grammarly locally on my PC. I find it works ok but roughly on large (complete book) documents. Should I upload the book and run Grammarly on-line instead?
Great question! I own a life time membership to ProWriting Aid, but prefer Grammarly. The reason is because ProWriting Aid finds way too many issues that need to be fixed. So, I could spend years trying to fix everything. Grammarly, just hits the main issues making it easy and quick to clean your manuscript.

Yes, the combo may work better for you. Grammarly is now using full AI and its quality went from amazing recently to off the charts fantastic. I have never used a grammar checker that even came close to Grammarly.
