I never heard or played this concerto. FL is the most amazing oboist I have ever seen in my life. What an incredible experience to view his concerts performing the concertos I played in my youth. I am excited after discovering FL this week when I needed to get away from the pandemic news. Every one of his concerts is a complete meal for the soul. I love the way he moves while playing. The speed at which he articulates every note with passion is captivating. I had to share this link with two young oboists with orchestras here in Buenos Aires.
Lebrun is truly a vurtuosic composer I remember when I first heard this concerto I was wondering how it was virtuosic but now after hearing leleux play it I understand bravo as always
What a gorgeous tone and crisp, precise technique! And he's dancing it like the Pied Piper, how completely charming! It's a marvellous work and a memorable reading. Thank you for posting.
different interpretation.....tried to look at the old ones but this fascinated me so much that i didnt like no other! thank you Francois for inspiring us oboists to express our individuality the best way we can !Your playing teaches us so many things about phrasing.
holy shit that high A an octave above the staff was super bold in that cadenza. I may have played that note once before on my oboe, or maybe never at all
I have written som comments on Leleux playing who needs to understand in the right way. First: He is a fantastic oboist!! It is his fraising and acting I not can go for. My tast go for : Goosens,Mayer and others in that style. Brynjar Hoff
Leleux is a very special artist. One of a kind. But one thing I have noticed in the live recordings is that there are times his vibrato goes a bit over the edge as if he has lost control of it.
This is an agreeable enough concerto by a composer previously known by me only by name. Oboist Leleux wasn't even known by name, but his performance here rectifies that situation, and I'll certainly remember him now. (I just found out that Ludwig August Lebrun, an oboist, married Franz Danzi's sister, a singer; that they traveled together performing; and that he died in 1790 at only 38 years of age.)
Leleux is one of the greatest living oboists on earth :). An absolute talent, a gift from God. Maybe a little bizzarre to see when he is playing, but a true magician of this instrument.
This is what happens when your technical abilities surpass by far what is written in the score. He is an amazing player (IMHO the best by far), but I think his outstanding skill biases his musical criterium for worse, playing everything unnecessarily exaggerated, trying to take out of the score what is not written there and spoiling the original intent of the work.
Mastershaft is not a score, because there is only ink in the form of icons! Mastershaft is the great art of inner hearing, colored by the peculiarities of a particular soul !!! And that's fine !!! Tepper Michael.
I'd bet even money that if the composer were alive today, he'd say something like "FL has elevated my work to a level I'd never even thought imaginable. Praise be to God for FL!" or something along those lines.
There is some mischief or playfulness in the phrasing, almost as if it's on the edge of language, a droll commentary of some kind. God knows I feel not a drop of disrespect, but I would love to see this player do the music for a Coyote and Road Runner short.
Yes, he mastered the Oboe, though he is loosing it sometimes in the high notes. The doubletongue is perfect!!! But this is Oboe playing like in the 90s.... The sound is too flat because of a too light reed, is not round enough and he has a too fast vibrato. The Solo Oboist of the hr (Nicolas Cock-Vassiliou) could do way better in my modest opinion.
It was a very good oboe player but with the ages I observe that he got some.sort of.music madness and he degenerate the music sense of the phrases.it s embarasing!
It is because he has such instrumental playing, I never forgot that he's playing oboe, that's probably why he's doing these strange things. Musicians should make us forget the intervention of the instrument between them and the audience.

I agree 100%. He is a joy to watch as well as listen to. Stay safe.

Best oboist in the world
Most probably. In any case he is a great genius and a talented virtuose oboist
