  • HOUNDS OF LOVE is our Atlanta based Kate Bush tribute band. We performed this rendition of Kate’s 1980 single “Breathing” during our second live appearance ever. Our lead vocalist Audrey Gámez really taps into the emotional and theatrical side of Kate’s performances and has quickly grown into this challenging role. It’s been the fulfillment of a life long dream to be able to perform songs this one at the level they deserve.
As Audrey mentions towards the end of the song, the lyrics for “Breathing” are from the perspective of a fetus expressing fear about impending nuclear war. The tone of the song was inspired by Pink Floyd’s THE WALL and was on her NEVER FOR EVER album. It’s not an easy song to play, especially due its almost cautiously slow tempo, which can be tricky to groove to. It starts out so gentle and almost delicate, before moving into the dream-like sequence of the bridge. The ending is slow, heavy and appropriately apocalyptic in tone. It also provides a nice example of how the bass often functions as a lead instrument in Kate’s music.
Special thanks to Jeff Blanks (keyboards) for rescuing us on short notice to cover for Marva Rodriguez, who was unable to appears with us on this night. Also, loving thanks to Regeana Campbell (The Changelings) for joining us as a new and additional backing vocalist and performer. And even more thanks to James Poulakos who gave us such wonderful visual close-ups with his camera work that evening.
