It was actually cool for you to run it through kinda quickly for us. Was straight to the point and it kinda felt like the day-to-day set energy haha. About that Sachtler head (as I was thinking about the Ace XL given the price), what would you recommend instead? I have a pretty small package, Komodo + Vespids...
Hey Griffin, I'm Griffin. 😂 Nice video (I did watch it all). I've been following for a while but realized I'm not subscribed. 🤷🏿♂️ I fixed that. I currently use the GH5 and 2 GH5S's. I have 4 questions re the C70... I hope your willing to answer. 1. What's the Dynamic Range difference between the GH5S & C70?... Does it feel like 16 stops vs 12 stops as advertised? 2. Is the low light comparable at ISO 5000 because the GH5S is no joke at high ISO. 3. Are the storage needs dramatic compared to the GH5/S? 4. How does the 4k 10bit 4:2:2 edit on a computer - slow or similar to pro res?
Most of the channels that teach filmmaking build a set just to do a tutorial. What I love about this channel is that Griffin really has clients and he films the video on his breaks.
Subbed. It's so refreshing to discover somebody who is actually out there shooting, using and mastering their craft vs the evergrowing amount of prosumer/gear review/content creator channels out there today.
Thank you very much. this is a very useful video, I was looking for it. I needed ideas to cover the 4 heroes of the interview. I got what I wanted. thanks again, guys)
Appreciate the content, as someone that runs a small production company these types of videos are great to watch. I always love to see peoples different setups and workflows. Cheers sir
I like this content for sure even though I will never be filming others. My window backlights me and even with nd film and blinds it still often looks nuclear haha. I've been debating the C70 for my main cam and something else for my B-cam. Maybe R5c but who knows. Up until this point I've been using some really cheap cameras. Every time I search for c70 vids your channel comes up. Subbed.
I use an XL with the Flowtech 75 legs. I quite like it for what it is, but I’d be curious to see why Griffin doesn’t like it. Sure, it could have more tension adjustments, etc. for both lighter and heavier cameras, but then it’d be more expensive. I’d love to pick up an Aktiv 8 in the future.
I broke one of the knobs to lock the tilt after 2 months, and also found the head to not have enough adjustments to properly balance cameras within its payload capacity. I have the flowtech sticks and like them.
@@GriffinConway Alright I gotcha. Interesting, as I really cinch down the tilt and pan knobs sometimes, too. I do end up with setups that sit between two counterbalance adjustments, but usually upping a drag setting will keep it in place. I didn't realise at first that the more expensive heads will also better balance light loads.
Thank you for this! I'm planning to start a series of interviews soon. BTW, I just installed some rolls of the Lee Filters ND on a roll (I think it was #299 on their catalog) on the windows of our talk studio where I work.
So good, thanks for taking time to break it down! I especially love the idea with the contrasting lights in the background, never thought of that this way. Also that super complicated fill setup was awesome. Can you tell me, what slider you guys use for those large cameras? I also notice it‘s almost never a motorized slider on large productions. Thanks again for the insight man and looking forward to learn more from you!
Thank you bro! Glad you liked the video. I typically prefer manual sliders because it’s less stuff to go wrong and the payload is usually lower, although I have been talking with rhino about their new slider and doing some testing with it. Looks to fill a nice gap in the market. The sliders we used were Dana dolly and Syrp magic carpet pro
Haha the ace xl is overpriced for the quality in my opinion. I like the other Sachtler head (Aktiv 8) but it is much more pricey. Still looking for another good option
I like the c70 better than c300 mark iii because I can use the speed booster and get a full frame field of view. Still like my c500 mark ii better because of true full frame sensor (even with PL glass) and SDI ports and full size xlr. But the c70 has better slow motion, easier to mount on gimbal, better battery life, and better autofocus.
@@GriffinConway Makes sense. That speed booster is nice. I have a Komodo now… and I love it.. but limited with one Sdi out .. I have used the c70 a lot on shoots but hate that it’s not robust.. one hdmi out … but it does have the xlr inputs which is nice… so it has that over the Komodo. I was thinking of getting something like a c300 m3 or c500 m2 to pair with the Komodo .. so I have a more options …. Life’s tough haha 😂 looks like you’re doing great with that c500 / c70 combo …
@@GriffinConway I need to rent a raptor to see how I like it. I haven’t seen a lot from it. It’s interesting for sure. The R5c is also another camera that’s interesting as a b or c cam…
That looks like a big open room and you can hear some of the echo. How did you go about knocking that down and micing up the talent for the interviews? Thanks for the content!
Lav mics sounded great. Sennheiser AVX lavs with MKE2 mics. Any echo would be killed in post with iZotope processing, but it sounded clean. Also, we used sound blankets on the ground
Awesome content. I noticed lots of bumping / jitter on the Syrp Slider. Do you generally have problems with using that one? The Dana Dolly was smooooooooooth tho.

It took us about an hour. Our crew works pretty fast and we had some stuff set up before for some others shots we were getting. If we were going to set up from scratch it would be about 3 hours.
Thanks Griffin, I noticed you don't have any hard light even for your (hair light) you are using soft diffusion , any specific reason for that?, I always feel that hard light with barn doors are easier to shape on actors head, and you don't get spell that you always get from the soft boxes or domes
