Lucid, I would love to have a conversation about this. How is it justified to take away a ten year old's favorite source of free time because he used it four hours a day? The reason he is crying is because you seem to have deleted it without warning, and without giving the child a good reason. It has nothing to do with TikTok's manipulative algorithms as you seem to imply in the video.
Not only this, but it seems you've taken TikTok away from the child because you disagree with its algorithms rather than because it caused any harm to the child. Is there any evidence the child was actually being harmed by this? The child has free time, and they can do what they want with it, but it is a different story if some kind of deeper harm was being caused, maybe to self esteem? (Which is most certainly a possibility.) If the harm is "TikTok is a supercomputer algorithm" I fail to see where you're coming from. Would you take this child's 4-5 hours a day of videogames away from this same ten year old because they are psychologically designed to be addictive?
Naturally you can expect a child who does not understand the concept of TikTok being harmful to anybody to be mad about this. It's one thing to not use TikTok yourself knowing the harm it causes, it is another to force your ideology onto others, especially someone so young who is unable to do anything about it.

@Insomniac RUclips is bad, but it's not even close to as bad as TikTok. RUclips at least doesn't target your attention span and can be educational if you use it a tool. For example, my youtube recommended is full of educational history vids and self improvement vids. For example, RUclips is kind of like a Cupcake, it's bad, but okay in moderation. TikTok on the other hand is like fentanyl. Even in moderation it's literally hell on Earth and will fuck your brain up.

This is happening with my older sister, and one of my best friends i've known for 6+ years. It's crazy and really sad how much they've changed. My sister, is addicted to her tiktok and snapchat. Every time I walk into her room, she's on tiktok, or on a call with her friends. She barely even goes outside, even for family walks. She only goes outside if we threaten to take away her devices, or threaten grounding her, or some sort of punishmentshe doesn't want. Though she is 15 years old, she has tantrums every time we want to go somewhere, eat somewhere else, and always snaps at us, sometimes even crying, which for her age, shouln't be happening. She also always gets mad at us for doing the littlest things, even touching her in the car, she would overreact and start yelling at me, my brother, or my parent for not telling us off. My friend however, he can't get off. The only time he actually is off is during school, but during break we aren't supposed to use them but he doesn't care and is just on tiktok. He used to always want to go outside, play outside games, to not even want to go to basketball training anymore. Every time I play with him on PS4, or my laptop, it doesn't matter, I always just hear him on tiktok as soon as he dies, sometimes it even gets to the point where he doesnt listen to me at all and just goes afk watching tiktok the whole time, even if we all die and he is the only one left. He used to be so nice, probably one of the nicest people I knew, but as soon as he couldn't get off of the app, he also started getting mad at the littlest things, and if I or my friends told him to stop he would just say "shut up fam" and start laughing and keep on doing it. He went from always wanting to do things to just being on tiktok the whole time, which honestly makes me so sad because I've known him for so long. It's amazing, and so depressing how much one app can change so much of a person

I still think even now they are more accepting (some are) than older generations. I don't think you know how it feels to be kicked out of a friend group. Thank you Lucid for this video. It’s so important for our generation to realise that they’re wasting their life away on these platforms which, when you come down to it, really don’t add anything to your life. I have struggled with technology addiction since a young age. I’ve found ways to make sure it doesn’t get in the way of more important things in my life. It’s sad to see people who are way more affected than me breaking laws even to be on their phones because it’s now government rule to not allow students to have their phones during school hours. Overall, social media is really holding people back from achieving things, big or small, and with the pandemic it’s only getting worse. I hope more people can use their platform to raise awareness for this problem like you Lucid. Thank you for being a trailblazer for this issue.

There was this whole trend on TikTok where users would post a video with a bait intro and then a few seconds later it would cut to some pornography or gore. These pages would rack up hundreds/thousands of views before being taken down. Imagine how traumatic this could be for children on TikTok.

I quit all social media a few months ago, but not RUclips. It’s worth it. I felt disconnected at first but my overall mental health and happiness has drastically improved. I’m in my early 20s so I got to experience life pre-social media thus it was a little bit easier to get back to reality but I’m afraid it’s going to be much harder for the younger generations nowadays.
Only keeping RUclips for the fact that I learn a lot of things from watching videos and gain value from it. But you do gotta watch out for the rabbit-hole of recommended videos.

This social media epidemic is bigger and more dangerous than any microbial pandemic could ever be. We're addicted to our screens and it's only getting worse. When I was young, me and my cousins would run around and play whenever we visited each other's houses. But the other day my 2 year old niece came over and she was glued to her iPhone all day playing games and watching RUclips. The fact that a 2 year old child has access to such a powerful device at such a young age is frightening to say the least.

Honestly, I feel like it's hypocrisy to take Tik Tok away under the pretenses that they aren't old enough to understand they are being manipulated by an AI. That AI is tailored to whatever age group you belong to, so when that kid turns 18 and joins, it wont be any different. You should teach the kid to recognize when they've been on too long or show them best internet habits.

Cool. Do you really believe that your advice will matter to an addict? In a family full of addicts(of different kinds), I have realized that being an addict=no care in the world other than the addiction that I currently have. So, advices don't work at all. Unless, you take away their phones, delete the app, tell them why you deleted the app... there is no other measure that can return an addict to remmission.

    • @Quantum_Nebula

@@josephdahdouh2725 If the child breaks curfews and guidelines you set up as a parent.. they are indeed addicted to the device and should be punished as such. Ground them from the phone as you would anything addictive. If they like going to their friends house and getting into trouble, you ground them the same way. If you're arguing the point that taking away something permanently till they are older is somehow a benefit, I guess I gotta question, why not take away friends permanently till they are older too? The goal is to teach your child how to deal with bad influences, like friends or habits. Taking it away doesn't do anything but delay them the needed experience to learn self-control. At this time the defence rests your honor.

From my experience, I discovered youtube when I was in my first year of highschool, and never used any social media platform beforehand except for facebook. By doing so, I avoided the cruel addiction that these apps offer me, and learnt to self-control them as I don't consider them part of reality as many do.

I think that a person without that much maturity probably wouldn’t care when presented this especially if they are still upset, and it kind of goes away from the point that the apps are trying to keep you on for as long as possible because although I don’t like or use tiktok, it’s the same concept of being on an app instead of interacting with another human being. I think that just on this one point, showing this video would be completely useless, and it would be better just to talk to them. Except for that, great video as usual ❤️

Personally, TikTok addiction has come to a point where people remove numbers from their own lives to gain them digitally. It's personally highly appalling to know that this is the future generation. It's almost like Fahrenheit 451 may become a reality and at this rate, it will. If I have to be honest, although people may gain some sort of knowledge off of that app, they're also shooting down their own minds too. For instance, as you stated in the past, TikTok affects the attention span a lot via 15 second-1 minute videos and if it doesn't grab your attention during that period of time, you'll just continue scrolling. People have also become even bigger "simps" towards society today because they're going head over heels over a video of someone completely untalented showing his/her body to a camera. Just to wrap it up in one sentence/phrase, our society is f***ed.
