Even though I've been trying to lose weight for years, I realized that I couldn't do it without surgery. I live in the USA and unfortunately my financial situation is not good enough to receive treatment here. That's why I decided to get treatment in a different country. It was impossible for me to pay 12.000€ here. Instead I found a clinic in Turkey. Slimmer and fitter. I got a very successful result. The cost of treatment is only 2500€. At this price they picked me up from the airport and made me stay at the hotel. I am very satisfied with the result and would recommend it to you as well.

People who are fat usually have deeper lying problems than just "not exercising enough" or "eating too much food". They usually have deeper problems (self esteem issues, PTSD, etc.) and turn to eating to forget. Really, the sugar in our food is just another drug.
Eating to forget is the same, psychologically as drinking to forget.

This video is so on time for me its scary. Im getting gastric sleeve tomorrow. At 22 I’ve tried everything I can think of from diets, cleanses, pills, and eating 1,000 calories a day. I used to be afraid of what others think of me for getting the surgery but after years of being over weight and depressed to the point of self harm Im really excited to get the surgery and start anew lol.

This makes me sad. This option should be a last resort. They were cheerfully going to the Cheesecake factory, and she is shown buying a calorie bomb drink at a coffee shop. That is a behavioral issue and should be treated as such. Surgery should only be considered when all other options have been exhausted, like going to therapy to build up a toolbox and motivation for making healthier choices. That approach is not mentioned, and the non-problematized attitude toward unhealthy food shown in this video makes me worried about the message. It is physically impossible to gain weight if you don't consume more calories than you burn, so we know there is no disease or genetic variant that directly makes a balanced calorie intake impossible. It is a psychological issue and needs to be treated as such to the furthest extent possible.

tbh i dont think the question should be how safe is such a surgery for teens but more so how can a society let it happen that 18 year olds weigh so much

    • @cheeses_fries
      @cheeses_fries 6 лет назад +1

You mean.... How can HER PARENTS let that happen to their own 18 year old daughter? Society didn't force her to eat. Everyone in her family are equally huge. It's a behavioral issue. They chose the unhealthy life. Cheesecake Factory and Mcdonalds..The weight gain and associated health problems are the consequences of their OWN actions. They're too lazy to eat healthy and exercise so they chose to undergo surgery as a shortcut to lose weight... laziness is their problem, not society

  • @layoverbear

I literally have no sympathy for her? She still goes to McDonalds & Cheesecake Factory, and her whole family is like that. Its a diet problem. I hope she changes that.

"metabolism", when will people stop throwing that idiotic pseudo-science bullshit in the discussion? The impact of metabolism difference has been well studied and is almost non-existent, if you want to lose weight you need to reduce your caloric intake (roughly speaking), you need to start paying attention at what you eat, in which quantities and at which hours.

So let me get this straight. Diets have failed her, then she gets a surgery, and then a strict diet helped her lose weight.
So in short, the surgery was completely unnessesary?

    • @avani112

Rumplelumpa Snickerdoodles nah. The diet is easier with the surgery. Diets dont work alone because of the way the body works. By that i mean its so difficult its usually pointless.

If you've ever heard about the problems contestants on The Biggest Loser have had once they leave the show, you'll know that once your metabolism is set up a certain way, there's not a lot that regular diet and exercise can do for the obese. You can do both to the extreme and see great results, but it's not sustainable, and once you stop the weight will just come back.

So, I've been seeing all of these comments about how it is a quick and easy fix and how they don't even have to work to take that weight off or how she is just lazy and doesn't want to do the "work" to take that weight off. The truth is that those traditional methods of weight loss just doesn't work for all people. It takes 3X the effort to lose that weight and it's not logistically possible for those people to lose weight, so this is sometimes the only option for people. Once they have the surgery they still have to work hard to take that weight off, eat healthy, and exercise! They have to count their calories more and have less of a metabolism which means they have to work harder to burn those calories. It's a lot of work and all you people judging her for trying to get healthy should be ashamed of your selves. Jewel lost 76 lbs already and if she keeps on working hard she can lose so much more! Keep working at it, Jewel! You're doing awesome!!

That's a very limited way of looking at things. I'm overweight. I can't remember the last time I ate McDonald's. Or fast food for that matter. When I do order takeout, I get sushi (not deep fried) and sashimi. I rarely drink soda, and if I do, it's either diet or sparkling water. My beverages of choice are tea and water.

The surgery literally forces you to eat less. Your stomach is essentially the size of a grape after the surgery, meaning thst you'll actually need to work very hard to get your minimum caloric intake. It's not like liposuction, where they take the fat itself out, you lose it through forcing your body to be able to take in less food.

Surely, one can just take up the extra space in the stomach by _hydrating_ better. Surely, she's just having trouble meeting the cost of education because she lives in the wrong _country,"_ which is _true,_ by the way. But I have spent the last several months struggling with my _own_ weight, so my sentiments have been changing.

Most of these comments below make me sick. I mean, even if you have this surgery it doesn't mean you get to keep your old diet. She had to adapt to a smaller stomach and suppressed hormones which makes people hungry. She also had to put effort into proper sized and nutritious meals. All this while still working and trying to graduate college(The stress should've been insane imo!).
What I felt at the end of the movie was that healthcare is evolving and allowing more possibilities for obesity problems in different kinds of people in different situations. I mean, not everyone will succeed by *only* using the traditional "eat less, exercise more". There could be genetics or economics involved in the mix.

I often wonder if obesity would be lowered if people like this were shown documentaries like "fathead" of "carbloaded", thus understanding how obesity actually works, instead of being told to eat less and exercise more, which works for only very few people, and makes the rest feel like failures because they couldn't do it.

"Diets and exercise fail most people with severe obesity" - Please provide a link with research/science-based evidence to support this statement.
It's disappointing to see bariatric surgery used at such an early age. The surgery should be used in only the most extreme and hopeless cases. This is not something that should be encouraged. There are plenty of other healthier ways to loss significant amounts of weight without having to permanently alter someone's anatomy.

The notion that she has no control over hew weight is true to an extent, however the only true solution to weight loss is dont get there in the first place. Just simply eat healthfully. Go to the gym, and lower your food intake overall. If you keep this regiment you will see results. However you have to keep it. You will gain wight again if you stop going to the gym regularly. So it really is in her control as apposed to expensive surgeries, but hey, if she had enough money to do it more power to her.

As someone who's lost 112 lbs the natural way, through diet, exercise, and determination I can say I'm less than thrilled with how you guys portray us with those statistics. I'm glad people are losing weight but surgery isn't the best option. The best option is to learn about nutrition, eat lean, start exercising, start loving yourself and respecting your body. I think its great that this girl has decided to start her journey, but I think she could have gotten the same results for trading chips and chocolate for granola, pop for perrier or water, and joined a HIIT or Crossfit Box.

Did you even watch the video? When you come from poor countries you're mentally programmed to eat more than you should, if available(hence the whole bigger woman means wealthy woman quote). Problem is that Americans have made junk food cheaper and more accessible. And whenever you do have a problem there is a pill for that. If that doesn't work you have option to get sliced up.
There's a very specific reason these weight loss stories gain so much attention - it's a mental problem, not a stomach one.

When the mother spoke about africa and its relation to food it really suprised me how ignorant someone can be generally about anything . All the best to the mother and her daughters and their family members. But still people need to prevent these kinds of cases from happening early . Look at her sister she looks i think about 16 or 15 and she is obese aswell. Who knows if they will have money in the future for surgery .Even if they have money in the future is she going to waste years of her life waiting for a surgery like her sibling and her mother ? What if she has health problems preventing another surgery ? I see very bad parenting and advice from the family . God bless you in your dreams and ambitions .

I think that the meal prep and the walking to safeway will certainly make a bigger difference than the surgery, but if the surgery was the kickstart needed to commit to the other lifestyle change than great. You just have to stick with it. If you plan your meal in advance you are a lot less likely to end up at a Fast food joint.

She should be learning healthy eating habits and participating in a more active lifestyle instead of resorting to surgery at such a young age. But gaging from the example her mother set for her, that wasn't going to happen. Showing themselves ecstatic about going to McDonald's should be an indication of the lack of proper parental guidance. I haven't eaten McDonald's in a literal decade because I know it's bad for me. Common sense is what helps people lose weight. And yes, there are some people with health conditions that struggle with weight loss BUT this is a very small percentage and it doesn't prevent weight loss entirely, it merely makes the process slightly more difficult. I am done with all this fat empathy and enabling. This is why people will never get better when it comes to maintaining a healthy weight, they are being taught incorrectly.

CynicalBunny although i cant imagine what is it like to be an overwighted person, and i agree that healthy lifestyle is importent and helps a lot in keeping your wight in balance, the video pointed out that there is a point that people cant lose wight naturally. I also think that parental guidence is importent in those cases, but there are studies showing that people who lived in poverty and had to struggle with hunger will make sure that there is always food in their houses ( the study was on holocost survivers, but it can apply on homelesses and such as well). In the video the mother said that they came from nigria, meaning that there is a high chance she had to suffer from poverty. So i think you can understand her for letting her kids eat, even if its not healthy...

Calculate your needed calorie intake and if you can't eat that much for whatever reasons, try to slowly increase your calorie intake.

Mäx I am not trolling. I have been skinny since I was born. I weighed only 2.7kg at birth.

Woman... If I lost 50lbs in 4.5 months, I’d be so happy 😢
