    This was such a hard game, this clip makes it look so easy! Getting the Pumpkin to jump at just the right height in sequence was truly a skill! I always found it hard to remember how to navigate around the castle. I wish I'd made a map!

      When i was 9 or 10 , we had a monthly margazine called "micromania" , one month , this magazine came whit a full map of this game , printed in two full pages. Of course , not Internet those days. Such a great time.

    The Cauldron series was charming and difficult in equal measure. Definitely one of those "where the hell am I going" and "what am I doing" games.

    Definitely a tough game, but shows how the C64 really delivered arcade-style games. This looked and sounded great.

    there's an undeniable genius that I certainly had no understanding for back then. It's clearly a game where dedication to learning how to best use that control mechanic is the only way but how exceptionally designed around that this game was. It deserves to be talked about way more for it's brilliance but I do understand why it isn't at least considering that most including myself just thought it was impossible

    • @Skkra
      @Skkra 8 месяцев назад

      Definitely. This game still looks gorgeous, and the design was incredibly ambitious, but the difficulty is LEGENDARY. Just like the original Couldron, which is just absolutely brutal. To this day I've only ever beaten in on an emulator where I could use save states.
      Regarding the insane difficulty of the first game, I read an interview several years ago with one of the original developers. He said that the reason the game ended up being so difficult was that they always playtested the game in sections to ensure that it could be beaten... but they never actually ran the entire game start to finish haha!

      Save states has been used. It was not done without using lives. Only those attempts is not shown and edited out using an emulator.

    Loved this back in the day. Like the first one it was pretty tough to complete, especially without a map. It's only all these years later that i realised that the map layout is actually the palace software logo. Pretty cool.

      wow ! That's impresive. This was my 2nd game i got on my C64 (1st was Commando), and i played it a lot. Found each item separatly, multiple times, but never could get them all in one game, and that is what you needed to do because you could not save the gamestate.

    If anyone accidentally occurs here (and I see some amount of dislikes): this game is hardly passable.
    In some moments you may note the corrections of leaps. Some of them are know for an accommodated player, but some of them needed a plenty of attempts to be found out. It either are series of jumps each with its own correction, or just one jump with multiple corrections.

    I/we(the friends back i hang out with back in the 80s.. have never completed this game back in the day when C64 was big news...usually.. my friends and i got pissed off( we where like 7-8 years old kids..🤣🤣 that we ended the game , ragequitting, and ended up playing Wonderboy 1(wich was way more fun, or Bubble Bobble..which was/is even more fun, or Wizard of Wor, aaaaaaaaaannnddd or a lots of other C64 classics) Instead :) i guess we got tired of that witch laughing at us everytime we frakked up in Cauldron II. 🤣🤣🤣
