I put a heavy duty shift solenoid in mine and i have to manually put it in first, i cooked brand new trans fluid before i figured that out. -1/2 ton 96 ram

There's one more thing that can cause 'slipping' - your solenoid might be faulty. Solenoids get gummed up. This can cause them to work intermittently, or to be a little slow in working, or not work at all because they're stuck. Your ECM won't know that it's stuck; the ECM will only know it's an electrical failure (eg shorted, or open circuit). So if the fluid and filter change doesn't work, I'd try ordering new solenoids next.
Also, check the pan. Use a magnet to pick up iron filings - these will be the friction disks getting worn out. Leave a magnet in the pan if there isn't already one, and it will prevent these from getting recirculated. That will tell you that you have just a few years before you have to do a rebuild.

IF you are serious about rebuilding the transmission be SURE you replace the torque converter and I would SERIOUSLY consider upgrading to a billet converter. The factory one has a felt clutch in it that disintegrates and goes straight into the pump. This is what destroys them. ALSO replace the radiator and any external cooler. This was the issue that caused so much trouble with those transmissions. The pump is/was a low pressure set up and did not pump hard enough to circulate the fluid at an idle. Hot environment, heavy traffic, transmission slowly cooking itself. They also had a check valve in the line to hold back pressure on the system in order to hold it on a hillside at idle. this was also a contributor to the transmission failure as the pump had to overcome the check valve to circulate fluid as well. SO, you had a pump that was basically dead trying to overcome a system that was working against it and a torque converter that was ready to kill it at any minute as well.
I went through 8 transmissions, 3 rear ends and 2 engines in one that never pulled a heavy load OR got dirty! This was all in a 1998 model 1500 4wd!

I talked with a transmission guy and he told me the last thing you wanted to do to a high mileage is to change the fluid he said the metal filing in the old fluid will keep it from slipping.

I'm in the same boat with that transmission. Also my head gasket made some "chocolate milk" in my radiator. Lol

sometimes the problem with changing gearbox fluid is that new fluid has detergents in it, and it agitates the dirt and grit hidden in the gear box and delivers all that grit where you don't need it

and usually people that are changing the fluid are doing it because they are already having shifting issues. new oil does not ruin a trans.

sure, but it can push it over the edge by agitating the dirt and grit trapped in the box.
the tip is to not let it get that way.

Garen I hope you don’t mind but I contacted Veepeak and suggested that look into sponsoring you or at least contact you and maybe send you products to review. They said that they were going to check out your channel and they appreciated the suggestion. Have you heard from them? Blessings...
