The biggest regret of my life so far is not going to this concert. My girlfriend, Emma (yeah), had just broken up with me a week before, and I had just witnessed one of the greatest concerts of my life with The Minds of 99 with my friends. I did not want to spoil the good mood after that, but most of all I did not want to spoil my own good mood by crying. Because I know I would. I have listened to Bon Iver all my life, and I knew that this would break my heart. Espacially just after Emma had left me out of the blue. So I didn't go. I sat 100 meters away with my friends and drank a beer or two. But deep down I knew that it would be good for me to go. I just couldn't. This music is the strongest ever, and the fact that I could not pull myself together to face my sadness and grief is kind of tragic. But loss is a part of life, and Justin Vernon and Bon Iver has helped me realise that, and I hope that others have the courage to face an emotional concert like this, even though I could not. Trust me, it helps.
It's sad you couldn't face it but there will be another opportunity. It may not be at such a poignant moment but when you do see him it will help with the healing and I think that regret will disappear. Hope your heads in a somewhat better place now. x
I'm the guy that can be seen slightly hidden away to the right, but still with the ugliest of all faces, crying my eyes out during Skinny Love at 1.21.49. I can assure you, those were tears not tears of sadness, but rather of being absolutely punched in the gut and in the feels from 8 (Circle), ___45___ and, most of all, Holocene in quick sucession, and feeding off of the totality of what this amazing, amazing band provides. Those are the kind of experiences that you can't really succinctly describe with one or more words. Maybe my ugly crying face itself kind of does it best. Right now, with all that's going on in the world, I really miss those kind of experiences.
it’s just incredible how bon iver can just completely take over our emotions like that with pieces of music alone. what an wonderful artist Justin is, and what a wonderful band he has with him.
Thank you for sharing your story. I would for sure cry at a live concert myself. NOT THAT I WOULD KNOW OFC! I DIDNT CRY A LITTLE LISTENING TO THIS! OH NO SIR! Im a grown ass man damn it!
You are absolutely not ugly. And it made me feel a connection to see you as I am bawling my eyes out sitting in the couch with my beloved cat beside me, seeing the sun set in the corner of my eye. I love crying to music, just letting go. It doesn't even have to remind me of something or be something I relate to, sometimes the music is enough to make me cry, simply because it is beautiful. Sometimes the right notes just push the right strings in my soul to release something from my subconcious. I miss live shows, where time just stops for an hour or so. And everything is right in the world for those precious minutes. Not all shows are like that, but every once in a while, they come by, and you just feel like you just saw a preview of what heaven would feel like. Happy, peaceful and full of love.
@@DonChillum You just word for word described the exact scene that I just experienced while watching this. Thank you for putting it into words. Love to you, fellow heart.
I saw this tour in San Francisco the year prior. I have been to easily over 100 concerts, and that show still remains one of the greatest I attended. The sound was unreal. I really wanted them to release a blu-ray of a show from that tour, but this works. So thanks to whomever is responsible.
I wasn't there but I could hear it loud and clear from my apartment on Silkeborgvej while crying under my pillow out of jealousy for not being there, trying to get sleep before work the next morning.
My god. Every moment of this speaks so vividly to my heart and life. Never has every line and drum beat felt so clearly like every pain I've ever known. It's intensely freeing to experience. This music is my church.
it's 1hr 30mins but it took me 2.5hr to finish it. I just keep repeating songs, watched it again with eyes closed. What a transcending experience! 22, 8, 666 & Creeks always superior, but Woods really broke me here...like my heart ripped open from all kinds of emotions. Bless them!
Might be the greatest band live. Every note is precise. Every live video I see of them is seamless. Even if a lot of it’s auto tuned. I’d put it up to anything
Love how they keep rearranging the songs and keeping them fresh. Saw Bon Iver at the Fox Theater in Oakland, 2016. Similar set list, slightly different arrangements. Best concert experience of my life.
Whenever I feel high or low, I find myself coming back to this amazing collection of music. I don't think any other body of musical work has inspired so much love and sorrow simultaneously in my life. I've been waiting 5 years to see Bon Iver live, and I'll have to wait at least another year, but in the meantime, this concert will continue to help me get through the good and bad. Thank you Justin and Bon Iver, for the joy you bring us all ❤️
He’s so good. Saw him last year in Raleigh, NC before Covid went down. Amazing show. He had Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak, Flock of Dimes, Dirty Projectors) touring with him. Just a beautiful show. Opening act was Feist.

For those wondering who the drummer w the wild looking fro is, that’s Matt, who as become somewhat of a mentor of mine over the past year or so as a musician myself. He is fantastic.
The drummers of this band are so nuts! I really think the layers they can achieve with two drummers rounds out all the other stuff they have going on in their tunes. 666 is the perfect example imo. The drums make that song! Very cool that you are being mentored by a straight G.
alex hanhardt Yeah man when they are both playing, the parts really aid each other in making a great feel/texture to the music.

OMG this is better than the NPR!!! i thought i would never find a better performance!! I like his uber experimental projects, but sometimes i think it goes further than my liking. this just the right amount of Bon Iver :) cheers all
I have got to say that it is so refreshing to see a large audience actively listening; as though they all understand that this is a unique experience to them and they want to be able to take it in and appreciate everything for what it is. Typically crowds and people need to be slop-silly drunk and screaming all over the music. Maybe it was just too cold and wet on this night for the latter to occur. Either way...amazing show!
I think it's a slowly evolving thing. I went to an Andy Shauf concert in Tennessee and even though it was full of younger folks, it was very much a celebrate the end and sway with the song during kind of atmosphere. =)
