Correction though, you can still utilize the tube load if you take the tube completely out and turn the rifle so the rim of the cartridge doesn’t get caught on the load lip area. Took me about 7 half sheets of 600 grit sand paper to get the tenon to very snuggly fit. Just so you have an estimate on what you will need how much to expect to go through. ALSO if you have the 357 model this guy does a video on how to take out the set screw for the mag tube. To install this on the 357 you will need to take out the mag tube and put it through the stock then insert the mag tube into its slot. You will have to hang the RP handguard off to the side while its still on the mag tub then while the mag tube is inserted you will have to set both tenons at the same time, hammering them in little by little 1 at a time until its lined up property on the barrel. I have no clue how he got that in by beveling the edge on the front tenon with the RP tenon already set that had to be a super loose fit or some serious hammering. This was not a fun install but doable lol
@10:00, you mention that the loading port is not usable after the handguard is installed, but it looks like its still able to. Could you follow back up with that? I could imagine some of that may vary between the barrel lengths of the Big Boy and 45-70/30-30 models.
Hey Adam - Our Henry MLOK handguard is much longer than your current forearm at 13.25" long (blocks mag tube loading port). That goes for ALL models. We do ensure our tenon and side attachment holes in the handguard are located at the exact same place as on the factory rifle.
So glad you made this video. I installed my black RPP handguard in March & it was a bear. There really wasn't much out there in the way of a tutorial. I ended up taking more of the rifle apart than I needed but did get it done & it looks/functions awesome. I even was able to modify the RPP caddy (made for Marlin) under the handguard where those set screws go.

@@joeallfrontsquiet8797 hey Joe, so first off when you remove the flat head screw from the bottom of the receiver to expose the allen key that holds the mag tube, you will find that there is no allen set screw on the .44….. and you cannot completely remove the mag tube without taking apart the receiver according to Henry, who I talked to on the phone…. On the 45 Long model all you need to do to remove the poly handguard is use two pair of needle nose plyers. Stick the tips into the rectangle cut outs on each side towards the front, gently pry the polymer apart just enough to slide the front past the magazine tube end. It is a tricky process being careful not to crack the poly or scratch the barrel but it was possible with zero damage. Hello Brian, great video! I installed my RPP handguard on my henry x 44mag awhile back but eventually after 300 rounds the dove tail started to shift to one side, can you share which area you stake at?

I got mine on last night, but I wish I would have paid someone to do it. I have the 357 which hides the second set screw under the trigger guard plate, just some extra disassembly required. On my first attemp I only sanded the stainless steel part enough to beat it into place, This caused me issues when I tried to install the end cap for the mag tube holder. Trying to get the set screw hole lined up and hammer both dove tails into place at the same time proved impossible for me. The end cap for mag tube was rotating as I tried to tap it in. So I sanded the stainless steel part until it would easily go into the groove, I later realized that I actually sanded it to far. Now that I have it assembled the hand guard moves left and right and makes a click clack sound as the front end taps the mag tube. If I had known all of this before hand I would have paid someone who knew what they were doing to do it, and it would have been worth it.
@@TRANSPORTCANADAGURU I didn’t, I believe the correct way to solve it would be to get another stainless steel block. For now I’m just living with the end of the Hand guard making a tapping noise when I put pressure on it.

I slightly bent mine barely noticeable the seam came apart a little but I notice it when a stare at it awhile hopefully it dosent impede anything from functioning. Idk if it was from whacking it or trying to take it out after removing the screw. Only took 3 hits with a rubbber mallet but was a pain in the ass to get tube out. May of got too rough with it. I pulled it all apart ahead of time just waiting on the handguard to come in.
Yep, I always remove the set screw before knocking out the mag tube. It’s unlikely it would get damaged if you’re careful but why risk it.
I wonder if they make one for a Golden Boy?
I have a big boy x 357, I cannot find the second set srew to remove the tube? Help
Is it true on the 44 magnum models you have to disassemble the whole gun to get to the second set screw?
Looks better before install
Hey Brian @Wolf’s Prairie Outdoors : at your 4:31 mark when you take the mag tube out. I don’t have that set screw on my rifle - just the one larger screw next to the set screw you take out. How do I take the mag tube out?
Did you manage to take the mag tube out ?
@@simonr.7713 No sir. I had a hard time properly re-inserting the front tenon (muzzle end) and I took it to a local gunsmith. She took the gun apart to get the mag tube out.
@@strtwyz95 thanks, on my side i emailed Henry and they send me video with really good instructions for disassembly and reassembly...so the screw was inside the rifle...found it and then followed Wolf instructions in this video...now Riffle is really nice
@@simonr.7713 so i have the same issue with the 357 version. Where is the screw to remove the mag tube?
@@omarcruz3241 to get to that screw you have tu fully disassemble the riffle, wich is not a really hard task. On the henry riffle web site, you can download a pretty much good video on how to do it. After you take the parts out and find the screw, you can do as shown in wolf s video to install your handguard
I have this gun in 44mag but it does not have the set screws. Just the flat head
Just ordered this except I’m pretty sure my Henry big boy x 357 doesn’t have a screw to remove the mag tube
So what do most people damage when installing this rail?
Thanks
The only thing you could really screw up is the Outer Magazine Tube by bending it.
@@somguyiknowintx5070 is it pretty straight forward?
Curios as to how you attach a sling to the Ranger Point Precision hand guard?
Does this method and takedown work exactly the same on the 357 X version as well? I ask because I do not see the set screw like on this 30-30
No, I've been told there isn't that extra screw. I don't have one on hand though.
Would this work with the .45 long colt?
Sure will 👍
What mallet/gunsmithing hammer are you using? I need a decent one
I feel like I’m forcing the mag tube back in. Any tips?
Great video, really good info
Thank you!
I broke my rifle because of you, thanks
Soooo how does this work with the 357 caliber that does not have the set screw on the mag tube?
It's there, there's just no hole in the bottom plate to access it. Bottom plate has to come off.
What Jarv said, here are the videos I watched:
Henry Big Boy Rifle Disassembly - ruclips.net/video/0AP_eXtXeF0/видео.html
Henry Big Boy Rifle Assembly - ruclips.net/video/8-sxRQHoeC8/видео.html
They aren't the exact same model, but it's almost identical, except for the side gate.
So what “can break” if you do this….;) I don’t want to send it in to have it done.
I just picked up a Henry Model X in .44mag. I want to give it a facelift with Ranger point products. I’ve worked on my own guns before but am curious as to what specific piece would break if this is done improperly. Thank you for your help
The part that goes up... but don't worry, I believe he offered to cover any damage done by anyone attempting this modification 😉
Louthan Gunworks must be pulling their hair out over this video 😂
Lol Jason is a great guy and a true artist. I tinker on here. He works magic with these things. You’ll see what I’m talking about very soon. He’s got one of mine right now and I’m blown away by the teaser he sent me earlier 😎👍
Am I missing something?
-that install doesn't look bad nor hard at all, pretty straight forward?
I am by no means a gunsmith. I’ve built a couple 80% lowers. But please do not waste your money sending this away to a gunsmith to do. I have a Henry Big Boy X in 357 and all you have to do is follow the disassembly process on the video from Henry and then follow the above range point precision install and it is no problem.
Can you please link the video from Henry for the 357 disassembly? Thank you!
Hello Brian, great video! I installed my RPP handguard on my henry x 44mag awhile back but eventually after 300 rounds the dove tail started to shift to one side, can you share which area you stake at?
Will this fit a 20 inch henry
How to remove the mag tube on the 357 model that doesn’t have a set screw for the mag tube?
There is a set screw, the problem is it's under the plate.
Here are the videos I watched to disassemble and re-assemble:
Henry Big Boy Rifle Disassembly - ruclips.net/video/0AP_eXtXeF0/видео.html
Henry Big Boy Rifle Assembly - ruclips.net/video/8-sxRQHoeC8/видео.html
They aren't the exact same model, but it's almost identical, except for the side gate.
Great video, thank you.
Mine doesn’t have that detent screws on the underside of the gun ? What do I do?
Mine either just one big flat blade screws H009 , anyone know? I don’t have Allen screws by the trigger gaurd
How did you resolve this? Shim? Stakes? Etc
@@TRANSPORTCANADAGURU I didn’t, I believe the correct way to solve it would be to get another stainless steel block. For now I’m just living with the end of the Hand guard making a tapping noise when I put pressure on it.
@@d3vArms hmm wonder if unscrewing the side plates and droping a glob of blue loctite around the edges would at least stiffen it so that at least it doesn't rattle? 🤷♂️
Or redo the install with a couple strips of aluminum foil underneath the tenon then lightly curling the dovetail over the tenon with a punch to hold it in?
Working on my .357 and I can’t get that damn front tenon to budge
Same. What did you end up doing? I feel like going to break the whole rest of the rifle getting it off.
Some videos show guys just sliding off the stock hand guard, have you tried this? Or is this the only way to install it?
You need to install the new tenon to do it properly. You also have to remove the mag tube to put the end plate on. It will not slide over the tenon.
@@buildhuntxplore ok gotcha might replace mine in the near future.
Thanks for making this video. Are the tenons the same between the X models and the standard wood stock models? I would actually like to buy an X to get the threaded barrel but then put wood furniture on it.
Hey! You’re welcome & thank you! I do not know if the tenons are the same. That would look cool for sure 👍
Does anyone have a link to the gen2 handguard install. I do not have the gun apart yet, but don't quite see what the angled set screws where it mates up with the receiver are for.
Just got my RPP handguards for my Henry X 45-70 and 357. *Heavy Breathing ensues*
LOL Good luck!
@@buildhuntxplore I'm feeling much braver doing it on my own thanks to your video! This is better than sending my rifles to get serviced!
Awesome! Hope it helps out. Just take your time and don’t force anything. Definitely gives you an extra sense of pride doing it yourself 👍
@@buildhuntxplore Thanks again for this awesome install video!
Welcome & thank you for following along!
Where i find this handguard?
Someone have any site?
Ranger Point Precision
I've been in love with these handguards ever since I saw your videos! I'm ordering one for my Marlin, but have been so torn on color. I love the green but would you say it's more of a flat color or does it have a metallic appearance?
It looks like you can still use the mag tube to load
Brian do you have a regular 45/70 Henry rifle stock and forearm ranger point precision make over video. Wood model? My parts are coming. Lol
Love the videos.
Thank you!!
I wonder why they have made this relatively complicated. Is Henry known for not liking that people tinker with their products? Or is it more robust/reliable this way?
Haha, good question. I honestly don't know, but I do know the rifle is very solid and well-built. Just a little tricky to do things do.
Knowing how much Henry repost social media of people customizing their rifles, I would say its more the latter.
@@adamb2619 Probably so. They definitely build a solid rifle. It was way smoother out of the box than any of my Marlins have been.
Link for rail system?
