    The .357 rifle does not have the set screw in the loading tube. I had to remove both factory tenons, fit the RP handguard down the still attached loading tube, lift the RP handguard up and away from the barrel a bit and then insert the RP tenon. The RP tenon will not go all the way in yet, it has to stick out far enough to allow you to get the factory tenon at the end of the rifle lined up but inserted far enough to lower the handguard. Lower the handguard and then hammer both tenons back into place alternating between the two. It helps if the RP tenon isn't a super tight fit. Add blue loctite and set screws. I would not want to do this again and probably would send it out to get done professionally.... but I had my rifle all apart when I found out there was no set screw in a 357.

      Actually, there is a load tube set screw, but not under the screw as seen in the video. I actually disassembled my .357 model X to preserve the OG handguard and found the little screw holding the mag tube in place. It is offset from the screw hole from the vid and is hidden and is only assessable if you disassemble the receiver. It was a learning experience. Fortunately, I had no issues reassembling the rifle with no issues. This was all with the RPP gen 1 handguard. I hope I do not have to do that with installing the gen2 with the loading port cutout.

      @@natewebb4175 I just installed the gen 2 on my 45 colt. Did not dismantle the receiver. Not that bad of a process.
      Definitely wet sand the new tenon provided and chamfered the edges of the loading gat me tenon.
      The hand guard will tilt past a 45 degree angle so you will have plenty of room to tap both in.
      Definitely lock tight them both.
      Good luck

    For anyone who is really struggling to get the mag tube support tenon (front tenon) back in as described in the video, you aren't alone. I tried chamfering the corners as recommended and probably went way too far, but I still couldn't get it to twist on while on the mag tube. When I would remove the mag tube and just try fitting the front tenon in, it would almost slide in. I had spent a couple hours grinding it on sandpaper and just couldn't get it to "twist on." This is because the new handguard tenon that comes with the handguard is much larger and allows a lot less side to side wiggle in the mag tube. It is very robust, which I like, but makes inserting the mag tube tenon difficult.
    What ended up working for me was to put the mag tube through the handguard and insert it into the receiver. Then I pulled the front end of the handguard away from the barrel, exposing the handguard tenon. I tapped that tenon out about halfway, which angled the mag tube out, then put the mag tube tenon on the front of the mag tube. I slowly punched the handguard tenon back in while also guiding the mag tube tenon into place with occasional taps to the mag tube tenon (remember I ended up chamfering mine too much, so it was fairly loose. You may need to go tap for tap between the two tenons so they stay lined up) until both were directly in the middle.
    I wish I had started with this technique instead of wasting 2 hours and putting extra scratches on my mag tube and barrel while pushing and pulling and tapping and twisting and failing miserably. Feel free to comment with questions if I didn't explain it well enough. Hopefully this helps anyone else who is struggling with getting that mag tube tenon in place! For reference, I have a Henry model X in 45-70.

      I guess maybe I'm getting ahead of myself but from what I've seen in this video and reading over your tip, can you not just re-install the mag tube and both tenons and then just put the handguard on over top? Seems like it fits right over them considering you were able to move it away from the barrel enough to expose the tenon. Like I said, might be getting ahead of myself...I'm still stuck just trying to get the handgaurd tenon in place so knowing there might be another step ahead that is difficult is really daunting

    Great Video as always. Couple of questions. 1. What is a reasonable price to pay for Cerakoting that Henry rifle? 2. What brand model is that butt stock and where is it available? (I’m likely mentioned it before and if so I’d appreciate it if you could repeat the info). 3. Do you think it would be possible to mount a rear and possibly a front flip up iron sights for the gun? I’m curious cause this could possible solve the clearance problem with the scope or larger scopes. Thanks again.

    • @Thisthat1234
      @Thisthat1234 2 года назад

      A one color AR cerakote from SlideWorks Eng ( hand guard, upper and lower) cost 150. So you can gauge the price from that.
      Butt stock is from Form Rifle Stock, think it cost like 300-400 USD.
      You could look into Midwest industries, they have a hand guard package that includes rear and front sights along with a picattiny rail.

    Disassembling the gun was pretty easy up until I had to remove my mag tube that was in there pretty good. The hole for the set screw was slightly mushroomed out from factory so it was tough. I think I slightly bent the end but it’s barely noticeable. Definitely suggest to take your time and go easy for anyone else attempting it. Thanks for the video was very helpful.

    HELPFUL TIPS FROM SOMEONE WHO JUST DID THIS INSTALL!!!!
    Just did this install. Went with the video. And everything went great besides 2 things which he did warn about.
    First . Should've went through the comments too. I spent about 10 minutes sanding on the hand guard tenon before attempting putting it in. Make sure it is snug. NOT TIGHT! I got stuck and i had to get a punch pin to get it out and put a nasty scatch on the barrel. 100% my fault. I actually also slightly bent the tenon and had to use a vise to get it back straight. Take your time and make sure you hardly need to use the hammer before installing it. I think i spent about 30 minutes total sanding it down before i got it mostly in by hand and only had to use the hammer a little bit. But i got it
    Second. The front tenon sucks. No way around it. I did everything he recommended and still struggled. I ended up getting it close and then had to use vise grips to get it started before hammering it in. It did leave some slight scratches on it. But nothing to bad. Once you get it started its not to bad.
    All in all its a great video and follow the instructions to a T.

    if you are at the 9:25 mark on the video, and are having a hard time getting that last tenden in the dovetail. what worked for me was once I was at that point all I did was raise the muzzle end of the hand guard and I was able to see the other tenden which gives you wiggle room to just slide it in and hammer it down than just push down the muzzle end of the hand guard and screw every thing in!

I did the lapping as instructed with 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper. I slid the tenon in and it went in smoothly about half to 3/4 of the way. Then it got stuck. I tried to hit it back out with a nylon hammer and it bent the tenon. Wasn't sure what to do so I reassembled using the factory tenon and factory screws. Don't know if this is ok to do, but got it all back together and used the tensioning set screws. Everything works as it should. I fed 7 rounds thru the side gate easily and cycled each one of them. No issues at all. Still have not fired but everything seems to be great functionally. I have since contacted RPP to see if I could buy a tenon by itself. No reply yet. Does anyone see an issue with using the factory tenon on the RPP mlok handguard?

    Anyone know if the mag tube should just slide out after removing the screw under the receiver? There looks to be no 5/64 secondary screw in there.

      There’s a hole in the tube that the set screw slides down into. Once the screw is out (mine was 1/16) it slides right out.

    Hey brotha, I had a quick question if you could. I just got a Henry 30-30 H009 lever gun but it's a straight stock and I like the pistol grip stocks more. Do you know if there is a conversion kit to change this at all or what I would need to change to put a pistol grip stock on?

    • @buildhuntxplore
      @buildhuntxplore  2 года назад +1

      There isn’t a conversion kit. To change it, you will need to replace the trigger plate with one made for a curved stock, and of course a curved stock. Good luck!

    Long shot question - followed this to a tee today but am having trouble getting it to feed from the side gate. The first bullet goes in just perfectly, but the second one gets jammed up and I cannot get it to load. Empty rounds with no bullets go in easier and the gun loads and cycles perfect if i use it from the tube fed side. Any idea? I love the look of the gun but cannot suppress it in the current state.

    Could you do a video of changing the RPP Gen 1 to install the RPP Gen 2 handguard? The real question is, if you have the Gen 1 installed, how much as to be disassembled to install the Gen 2? The Henry Model X .357 Mag version has a retaining screw for the mag tube that is in a different location than where yours is in the video and requires disassembling the receiver to get at it. I had to do that to find that screw when I installed the Gen 1. I do not want to play with the 2 tenons again and hope that it is less work if you have the Gen 1 installed (tenons installed). Can you comment?

    • @buildhuntxplore
      @buildhuntxplore  2 года назад

      Since you already have the tenon installed, you don’t have to mess with it anymore. Yep, I did a video with a .44 mag that shows the hidden mag tube screw 👍 The only tenon you have to mess with is the on at the end of the mag tube. Super easy 👍👍

    • @stevenlee2780
      @stevenlee2780 2 года назад

      @@buildhuntxplore So I still have to remove the mag tube, hence the disassembly of the receiver to get at the “hidden” retaining screw as it is not assessable under the trigger guard screw and move the front tenon to thread it out of the old rear retaining plate and then thread the mag tube thru the back end of the new handguard and try to dovetail fit the front tenon back in? Ugh. In your video you were mentioning the possibility of having to chamfer the corners if it could not slide in the dovetail slot. This and having to go through the reassembly of the receiver. I just practice makes perfect, or a costly repair bill if I screw it up :-(. Your first video it what convinced me to get the RRP handguard and I hav been very happy with it. Seeing the load gate cutout version of the Gen 2 is what is making me think about an upgrade. I just have to figure “if the juice is worth the squeeze”.

    Whether it is a .357 magnum, or a 45-70, lever guns are tougher, more solid, not prone to problems AR 15’s encounter. As far as capacity which always seems to be the big deal, you can carry ammo holders that wrap around your body, or pouches that hold 100 rounds at least. A person could load on the run through the side gate. This is something an AR 15 cannot do!!

    I hate to say it but after installing this for the last couple hours I deeply regret purchasing it. Bums me out to say this because of how excited I initially was to get this handrail but I wasted my entire day to get it to work and all for a hand rail. It looks bad ass I’ll admit but damn is it a pain to install and not worth it to me. The last step to get the magazine tube on seems insane to me. They really manufactured this and thought that was a good “solution” to install it? That seems crazy to me. At that point keep the gen 1 design?? No hate to the gunsmith working it he’s done a hell of a job making it look so easy but damn. If you really want one, buy it. Just make sure you make it your local gun smiths problem. And I’ll be damned if you’re local gunsmith who probably hasn’t installed a ton if any of these can do it without marring somewhere on your gun. I was impressed with myself for only marring it 2 times both small but I know I scratched it a shitful of times. Overall the rail looks cool I won’t be returning it simply because I don’t want to uninstall the pain in the ass or even look at it for a while but I definitely won’t be recommending this to anyone. I tried to love it after this install but now I just can’t, unfortunately.
