    Supplies:
    Stamps from Art Neko: Mareine stuff: artneko.com/displayItem/P041-FSHT
    Steampunk: artneko.com/displayItem/A406-FSHT
    Postcard: artneko.com/displayItem/A154-FSHT
    Bristol board or smooth cardstock (cut 4.5"x6")
    Stencils
    Watersoluble crayons or oil pastels (Distress crayons, Gelatos, gel sticks, gel crayons, portfolio watersoluble pastels, Prima watersoluble pastels or watercolor crayons.)
    Die based ink (Like Distress Ink)
    Black Pigment ink (Like Versafine Onyx black)
    Baby wipes
    Make up sponges (cosmetic wedges)
    Heat Tool (optional)
    White gesso or acrylic paint
    Low tack painters tape or masking tape
    Cheap aerosol hairspray (I like Aqua Net for this)
    Most importantly, time to play and have fun!
    Directions:
    1. Cut cardstock or 9"x12" Bristol board into quarters. You can stamp postcard info on the back or use this as a card front.
    2. Place a big stencil on top of the panel and secure with tape. Sponge ink over the stencil.
    3. Ink up some pattern stamps with the same color ink and stamp over stencil, it does not have to be perfect.
    4. Add similar color pastels to the openings of the stencil and blend with a baby wipe.
    5. Place a smaller stencil on (over the big stencil still in place) and stencil with gesso.
    6. Remove stencils and add ink to the panel if desired. You can stencil more with the gesso too if you like!
    7. Stamp your focal image with black pigment ink and ink the edges in black.
    8. Spray with a fixative or cheap hairspray to seal the postcard.

    I love all your innovative money saving ideas. You inspired me to make my own dobbers out of stuff I had. SOoooo, I took a few makeup wedges and snipped of the narrow end about a third from the end. I used my glue sticks for handles. A couple of drops of craft glue in the knob end of the stick and stuffed the narrow end of the makeup wedge in it. Voile! I have an ink dobber and still have a functioning glue stick.

    Nifty layering! Seems there are a lot of "guilts" posted, for unused or barely used craft supplies. I've been thinking, wouldn't it be fun to have a craft swap, to "pass the guilt on"? It would give those who haven't tried a particular craft item, exposure to it, while allowing some decluttering with a surprise at the end! Even partial paint tubes of colors we're not fond of, etc. Could be a fun way to start the New Year and beat the after Christmas letdown?

      Robin Burdette I recently gifted a friend with supplies. She felt bad for not recripocating. She is painting her house and her craft room is full of other stuff. I told her I didn't want more stuff. I felt SO much better without the stuff.
      My sister gifted me with part of her hoard. I LOVE LOVE LOVE part of it. Most of it. Not so much for other parts.
      I totally agree with you about passing things on!

  • @starshinesoldier
    @starshinesoldier 7 лет назад +1

    Bristol is great, we used them in our 2D/3D design class with gouache. I've also used them with watercolors when I was out of watercolor paper. As long as you don't need to blend them or use too much water, bristol is great with watercolor paints.
    As for my guilt art supplies - stamps, watercolor markers, Twinkling H2Os, Schmincke Watercolors, watercolor crayons, watercolor pencils (I rarely ever use them), and last the Gansai Tambi watercolors (I don't like them, but I want to use them up so I can refill the big pans with paints I do like), oh and my prismacolor markers, the smell makes me dizzy so they just sit in my studio looking sad.
    It's bad, I mainly use the Mijello Mission Gold paints, my pencils and my uniball signo pen for lines. A lot of my other supplies are neglected. X.x

    Hi Lindsey I'm back watching more youtube videos again and had to come see what you've been up to - I've missed your excited and inspiring videos which fill my day with sparkles. Love the postcard idea such a great use of large stencils. I made a faux pas with a clock face stencil I thought was 6x6 but when it arrive was 12x12 - eek how to store, how to use??? It sat in a drawer ever since, but I have a bud of an idea forming now that will mean I can dust it off and use it yaay. Guilty secrets hmm plenty - if I buy G45 which is rate and normally on sale (it's mega expensive but even more so it feels if not in USA) I have a hard time cutting into it. I have time to flourish I think in 6x6 the calendar one and want to create a perpetual calendar - well I'd best hurry up as its meant as a Xmas present hehehehe. Oh and acrylic paints. I have a few standby colours I use but I don't use acrylic paint often yet felt I needed a set of primary and neutral so splashed out and for sonedecent brushes to go with them.... Sigh not used the paints and the brushes I use if I use watercolour paints or pencils but ATM I mostly use markers or polychromos pencils (yeah those were expensive too but I use them so it dulls the pain ) :) once I've sorted my stash in some semblance of order I hope ill make better use of everything. What started out as a little hobby and filled a asker has taken over my lounge so it needs a serious talking to (well I do hehe) and moving to a permanent position. Will box up over Xmas and do a New Years resolution me thinks.

      lol..guess I m blessed by not having money to spend most months. My spending is due to that non existant till summertime.As I don t have enough money to go on trips once a year I use a small amount to buy some artsupply s.I on purpose only buy things I m gonna use and only artist art supply s,no craftingquality s ,kids or student quality or crafting materials. This way I guess I have so many months to think if I wanna buy it and that I need to know I m gonna use it from day one otherwise it s wasted and I could ve bought a nice sweater instead so I don t have any problems with my spending.

    My biggest guilty supply is beautiful card stock, that I never use because I'm trying to find the perfect project and don't want to waste it. I usually get it on one of those 70% off sales at Michael's, so it's not as if I spent a fortune on it.
    Those stamps are gorgeous. I've been eyeing them for some time. I really have no practical use for them, but I still want them.
    This is a great project. I'm going to dig out some of my stencils and try this. I use my inks all the time, but my gel crayons are neglected.

    Why, oh why, did I spend so much money on those Spectrum Noir markers. I think I have them all (or close to it) because I got a "good deal' but I rarely use them. I much prefer other mediums for making cards. I have some gelatos, too, that I was convinced I needed, but rarely use and don't love. I remember when I was in officer candidate school and had to use hair spray at a rate of 2 cans/week to keep the "wisps" under control when we stood inspection. It was crazy how much hairspray and how many bobby pins were in my hair every day, and I still had "wisps' at every inspection!

      Yeah (sigh). I was a child of the 60's and had hair that would not hold a tease no matter how much hair spray you put on it. It seems my hair sucks up hair spray and an hour later is still limp and flat. And soft. I was in my 50's when I decided to put a more positive spin on it and called it "silky!" I was literally spraying at least 4 times a day and had at least 8 bobby pins on each side of my pony tail to try to keep my hair under Navy control!!!

    my guilt is with stamp sets I have bought and never used!!! Usually for a project I have forgotten lol. usually doesnt bother me too much, however the holiday ones always do because I know they will sit there another 11 months till I forget about them again! haha
    Question? Do you prefer Versafine over Archival? I love my archival pad and use it a lot. I just dont like pigment ink much unless I will emboss! Thanks so very much! Happy holidays! hugs Phillip

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  7 лет назад +1

      Usually Archival but Versafine onyx black is the blackest ink I have and it will adherre to a greasy surface like the gelatos/crayons so that's why I used it. I was worried archival might bead up or not dry.

    my guilty purchase is my scan'n'cut , I was given it by my husband but found it didn't cut fabric as well as my big shop pro I brought when the quilt shop closed in our town, but now that i am learning card making the brother scan'n cut is handy. what brand or type of ink is best for the blending you did here ? loved the stamps you used also. pity the ozzie dollar is so low .

    hi there :) could I coat these with an acrylic varnish (fluid) or would it destroy the images? thanks for the lovely videos -I'm a fan :)

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  7 лет назад

      +Kreativ und Happy I would still seal it with hairspray first because brushing on the acrylic might run the ink.

    If you use distress crayons on canvas, will they smear if you try to varnish with anything but a spray? I am really disappointed in the non-permanence of them so would love to hear back from you. Thanks so much Lindsay! Love your videos!

      they might be ok if you use and oil based varnish, I'd test it on a scrap first tho.

    I love distress crayons. You don't use enough pigment when you lay it down. Distress crayons require quite a bit of pigment in order to blend- otherwise they just sit on the paper-You definitely have to use more than you do a Gelato. I like to use my fingers to blend them in but you have to do it pretty quickly or it dries. For example I would put down two or three areas on your card of just one color and blend it in and then move to the next color. It will rewet-obvisouly since you did it-t with a baby wipe but you take off a lot more color with than with a finger.

    I had to rewind the video because my mind drifted off thinking bout any guilty things. I decided not much really, just things I haven't used much yet. What I feel guilty about is my messy craft room. I'm going to destash my area by boxing up all my scraps of paper and patterned paper that I know I'll never use and donate it to a local grade school. I now enjoy making my own background paper. Thanks for the video. I need to use my stencils more.

      Pat Cyzauskas I LOVE making my own backgrounds. I recently pulled out a bunch of patterned paper and gave it to a friend.
      I realized I keep white paper, inks, embossing folders and dies by my table. My patterned paper went into another room.

    Guilt My Recollections embossing powder that I recently bought. It was on say-lllle, so I bought too much. As it turns out, it's the only embossing powder that I have ever had that I don't recommend and I will be returning some of it.
