Thank you so much for this video! My mum was diagnosed with wet form of AMD recently and I was trying to make her work with the computer easier. And this is exactly what I needed. God bless! I also found out that I like your channel so I've subscribed. Greetings from the Czech Republic. ;)
So glad the video was helpful and thank you for the subscribe! BTW, I visited Prague in 2019 right around Christmas time. You have a beautiful country!
I was not able to access the download page on XMBC website from your link. I went to FileHippo and downloaded the latest version. Thank you for all your help, Sam. I watch all your videos as soon as I can. You help with attitude even when the app or product you profile isn't for me. Awesome!
I am using Microsoft wireless mouse 3500 with Microsoft mouse and Keyboard Centre Software. It has an option to set scroll button to magnify. 1. Start Magnifier = Press the middle button 2. Zoom In/Out = Press and Scroll the middle button Up/Down 3. Close the Magnifier = Press the middle button again Very Simple.... Most of the Microsoft mice support this feature. Check for Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard compatible mouse before buying.
Hi Sam, Thank you for another nice video. With Widows 7 I just use the control key and the scrolling wheel on the mouse to zoom in and out. I find that this works on all screens on my PC. I find that I then don't need to use the separate magnification bar. Here's A tip "Control 0" resets Firefox to the default screen size.
Thanks for this. I had been wondering how to make this work on a Logitech mouse for years. Just so you're aware, a non-Bluetooth Microsoft mouse (by Microsoft I mean one sold by Microsoft with the Microsoft brand on it) with a side button can be assigned to run scrolling with no additional software. Just go into mouse configuration, assign magnifier to the side button, and everything works--click once to turn on the magnifier, again for off, hold and roll the wheel and you zoom, and there are some other tricks that I forget.
Hi Sam. I enjoy all of your info videos. I too have a low vision problem, cone dystophy, is my problem. I particularly liked this video because I have a mouse with 5 buttons and have re-programmed he back and forward buttons, to give zoom in and out. I also found that the scroll wheel presses down enabling me to program that to back button. I will now buy another 5 button mouse to do the same for my laptop. So Sam thank you for this info, very happy with my mouse now. Keep up the good work. Cheers Mal
Another great video Sam. My PC preferences include a Logitech gaming mouse & keyboard since gaming devices typically offer extra buttons that can be programmed using their software. I have always used mice with more than the standard buttons because I'm on a PC all day a multi-button mouse makes things move along a lot quicker. In the last few years, I have also settled on a monitor size between 22"-24". I find that if the monitor is any larger, I find myself having to move around a lot more to see all the screen. I also use an Ocutech magnifier most of the time while I'm on the PC and have other magnifiers depending on what i am needing to use them for.
i just found this video cause I just had an idea, if im playing a FPS game, and have a halo sight for instance, it would be nice if I could make the ubtton on the side of my mouse to zoom in to be able to see things zoomed in, not sure just yet if it works in a game tho
The lens is a lifesaver for me. I use it exclusively. I really wish that the folks who decide html specs would develop a "reflow" for html that would endeavor to reduce horizontal scrolling when you zoom by refitting the text to the zoomed confinement. But ain't happening, I'm thinking.
Bob Geyer's Comment (below) adds a method that is already on Windows 7 and works like a charm. "With Widows 7 I just use the control key and the scrolling wheel on the mouse to zoom in and out." I ordered a button Mouse too, and will try that, with XMBC, on my Laptop.
It DOES take two hands, where your button-mouse technique only takes one. That is an advantage, depending on what you need to do. I will watch every video you produce. I've already gone through all the ones available, some many times. Thank you, Sam.
Many mice with extra buttons come with manufacturer's utility to remap buttons and store config into mouse's internal memory, so wherever you plug such mouse, your mapping is immediately available.
I use the lens, but I use a different application called Microsoft Intellipoint. What I like about it is that you can RESIZE the size of the lens while using it, and use the scroll wheel to zoom in or out. It makes the magnifier sooo useful and simple to use like this. Unfortunately though, I think you can only use it with Microsoft branded mice. The mouse I like to use is Microsoft's IntelliMouse Explorer 4.0 It has 2 programmable buttons on the side. I use one for the magnifier and the second one for Show/Hide desktop.
Update, I gave X-Mouse Button Control a shot. I experienced a big lag in performance. The lens took seconds to load and I was not able to resize it. For this reasons, I am definitely sticking with Microsoft IntelliPoint as my mouse-to-magnifier software of choice. Thanks for the tip though. I hope this helps other folks out there.
Actually many years ago I made a small demo video in Spanish about it ruclips.net/video/zvue8MtZFYE/видео.html I think I don't show resizing the lens and only show zooming in and out, but you'll get the picture...
I also use "Negative Screen" for color inversion. I have photophobia and a lot of ppl with low vision have it too. If you got any problem with you monitor light you should try it! You can turn on and off by shortcut. I was wondering if I could use the shortcut on a mouse too.
Hey sam, I'm also low vision person like you from India. and i like computers & technology also. I'm using *Zoom It* software in windows. it is also good option to who have normal two buttons mouse Once try it.
It's a large print illuminated keyboard. I actually don't love this particular one, because the keys are kind of flat, I prefer more raised keys. But I got this from my local voc rehab for free and it's normally an expensive keyboard.
Thanks for the video.. windows 10 was very stupid to change the settings.. On windows 7 it had the best setting.. Very easy to use without extra buttons.. U click the scroll wheel and it would come on and if u click and roll it zooms in and out.. if u don't click and roll u can still use the mouse scroller. it was awesome.. But windows 10 surely screwed it up
Sam, I have a question for you. I am meeting with the Commission for the Blind of Idaho this week and was hoping to get your suggestions for hands-free devices (or any device really) that you have found to be the most useful. I don't know what they offer or what they can get their hands on, so I have been looking around to see what is out there. Thanks,
Not sure exactly what you’re looking for but the eyeris vision has definitely been the thing that works the best for me. Allows me to see things far away as well as up close.
Would this utility work for ZoomText too? This video shows using for Windows Magnifier but I use ZoomText and do not like the Alt + up/down in ZoomText I wish ZoomText used the mouse to zoom in / out.
It may. You can set custom commands for different applications. So you may be able to set it up to work when zoom text is running. Not entirely sure though. It’s a free program so it couldn’t hurt to install it and try.
Hey Sam: Is there a Key Board shortcut that that Generates a Magnifying Glass that moves with your MOUSE but doesn't Enlarge the whole screen, just the area under the Magnifying glass?
You can actually set the windows magnifier to just be a small window that follows your Mouse cursor around. The setting is just called a Lynn’s. I use the magnifier in full screen because that’s what I prefer but you can also just use the lens instead. Then the regular magnifier keyboard commands will work the same.
Thanks Ya I figured it out My problem is the settings needed to do video editing on a 17.3" laptop screen. especially when the contrast of the print is close to the background.
I would like to use the lens I don't want full name at the kacian I want to be able to magnifi a certain particular item not the whole screen can you help me?
Hello Sam I need your help. I recently installed x mouse controll and I would like to run it by combining the zoom in with the left button only if I press the ctrl key because if you set the left button to zoom in, this one stops selecting and is uncomfortable. I would love it to run only if I press ctrl and at the same time the left button for the zoom in and if you do not press the ctrl key just the zoom in action is not executed. please help me
I am unfortunately Mac impaired. I've got a good friend that is a Mac guy though. Check out Derek Daniel on RUclips. If he doesn't have a video about this topic, ask him. He'll definitely make one.
You should be able to just hit the keyboard command to launch the magnifier. It’s the windows key and the plus key together. Or you can go to windows Ease of access settings to find magnifier.
Thank you for your fast reply I need the magnifier that shows only a small box that you can move around and select items as you choose to magnify if that makes any sense you show it to me in the end of your video how do you get that?

Hi there! I have a massive brain tumor that squished my optic nerve therefore have very low vision! Every time I try to use the magnifier and hit the mouse, which is on the keyboard not separate but not a real difference, instead of the normal pointer, it turns into a cross and then nothing I click on, I mean NADA will work at all! I need to invert colors and can still do that with keyboard but the mouse left click is totally useless. I have tried finding anything about that on the net and have found nothing!!! Do you have any hints? Also, I am using a high contrast theme, Windows 7, but many applications still show a white background and black text that is not bold, but rather light and, for the life of me, I cannot read most of the text. An example is EaseUS backup, I cannot read anything on those screens, even my husband had trouble!!! Again, when I change the application background to a color, the program background, like EaseUS does not change! As you can tell, I have no clue what the heck I am doing. It is great that you are helping us out here, I know we all appreciate it and all of the work it takes to get a vid out to help us all! Thank you!
I know that when you change the background colors, it doesn’t always work globally. Meaning that’s not all apps or programs are affected. Especially in older operating systems like Windows 7. For many of your problems, I would recommend contacting Microsoft accessibility hotline. They would be able to walk you through the solutions much better than I can. You can Google to get the number.
@@theblindlife Thank very much. I did not realize that Microsoft even had an accessibility hotline. I must say that there areso many resources and so much knowledge out there now about lowvision andblind aides. It is truly mindblowing! Take care and keep posting you great videos.
