Volkswagen Virtus 1 vs 1.5 | Bigger Engine Worth It? | 0-100, Performance, Mileage, Prices Compared

  • On paper, the differences between the Volkswagen Virtus’ 1-litre and 1.5 litre petrol engines are incremental. The bigger engine gets you an extra cylinder, a twin-clutch automatic transmission and of course, more performance. However, the price difference between the two isn’t exactly incremental, especially since the added cost is almost exclusively for the powertrain and nothing else. In this video, we compare the Virtus 1-litre and the Virtus 1.5 on key parameters, such as their driving experience, real world performance and real world fuel efficiency.
The key question we’re trying to answer - is the bigger engine really worth the budget leap and if yes, for whom?

I bought the 1.5 in 2022 and very happy with it.. brings a smile on my face always.. nothing for me to complain about, except the ventilated seats where the power seems a bit low..
I love driving it on highways the car just pulls.
On cornerings it's good.. while I preferred my 3rd gen Honda City on corners.. but again no complaints with the GT you can approach corners at cruising speed with slight breaking..
I like the stiff suspension because there is no uncomfortable bounce at high speeds.. there are some RUclips videos that say in the city stiff suspension is not good... But I have had zero issues... I love the way the car drives overall...
I find the car looks smart and classy, I get the feeling of driving an Audi..
Infotainment system also works well.. in this 1.5 years would have only got disconnected 5 to 6 times.. have noticed that it gets mostly disconnected on a patch of road I have travelled on and don't know why..
On highway max full economy I have got is 21 kml but usually I get 17 to 18.. in city 11 kml and can be more or less..
After sales service I found them good...
AC is good... I have driven the car on long drives and no one has ever complained about the AC or seat comfort.. Even after long drives people have felt fresh..
Earlier i had a 3 rd gen Honda City. After getting the VW i realised what build quality actually is and how important it is... once on the Mumbai Pune expressway this Innova guy just decided to disengage his breaks and Innova rolled back a couple of feet (which could cause some damage) and hit my car. .. the worst part was that the Innova had a guard at the back. While nothing would have happened to the Innova because of the guard, I was contemplating that my car would have been damaged.. but I decided not to think of it and enjoy my drive... When I reached my destination I inspected the car and there was not even a scratch.. while in my 3rd gen Honda City there may have been some minor damage or misalignment... Even in another incident there was no damage..
It cruises effortlessly on the highway and you will never know when you have crossed the redline..
I bought the GT because since I have been a kid, I have always loved cars. I would rather drive than sit back.. I am happy with my decision because if I would have bought the 1 litre I would have felt incomplete and would have always wished that I had bought a GT.
I hope the above helps you to decide..

The Skoda / VW DSG gearboxes are notorious for their reliability issues especially in their petrol guise….the 1.0 has a normal torque converter which in the long term will prove to be more maintenance friendly..you should have highlighted the differences in these gear boxes as well….important to know….

Take a test drive and check your self.
I didn't find the AC good while taking a test drive, even the engine didn't perform well compared to options like XUV300 or even Breeza, forget about Creta and Seltos. though, this engine is better than Magnite/Kiger 1 Litre 3 cylinder turbo engine.
The only great thing you get in VW and Skoda 1L engines is its brand value, otherwise there are lot of far better options.

    • @Newbutold
      @Newbutold 2 года назад +2

My experience with AC so far with 1L Taigun in 5-6 months:
I stay where temperature doesn't go beyond 35-37 degrees so it's relatively less hot than say Delhi and other states in India troubled with geat waves. Also, I generally don't use home AC at a very low temperature (around 25-26 degrees) is cool enough for me.
So, it has been pretty liveable for me in my Taigun considering my living situations.
To add some comparison, I drove my friend's Baleno in outside temperature above 35, and at 25 degree auto AC with all 5 onboard it was a chiller. Drove my Punto in my home town and AC set at 25-26 Degrees temperature was absolutely chiller for me.
I coul clearly find the difference between these cars and Taigun's AC.
If Taigun was in similar condition, I would assume, it would take 20-21degrees settings for me to be comfortable.
SO, Yes. It's relatively weak AC. For cities like Bangalore it might just work and be enough. But for Delhi, UP, MP and similar states, summer might be tough (especially in stop and go traffic). No problem on highway as RPMs are higher.
Overall: Tread with caution. I'm happy with my car, it definitely has its niggles(Door beading sound and handbrake kir kir kir) but nothing major that hurts me. It drives well and is frugal when it stretches it's legs.

Reality check, the people that buy a car in India who care about things like torque, grunt, rpm, 150kmph+ speeds. 0-100 in 5 sec drama are very less compared to the people who just wanna buy a reliable family car which is offers value for money and scores high on safety with good, updated features. Thats it man, nothing more. Considering all that I am inclined to buy 1L TSI but none of these channels are talking about it and is it s good option for day-to-day needs in the city. I drove it till 140 kmph too on highway.. but then where will u go beyond as the speed limits restricts u to only 100 most of the roads.. 1.5 shoots past 1 only after 80 kmph and profoundly after 120 kmph.. the price difference doesn’t make sense to me for top model compared to top model of 1 ltr.. and for gods sake it’s a TURBO so 1 ltr turbo is equivalent to 1.6

But how often do u drive on highways on day to day? And getting further acceleration beyond 100kmph is stupidly dangerous, specially in India. I dont think 1.5 is worth going, given that u may have to pay 19-20L on road for features fhaf u rarely use

I own a stage 1 tuned polo tdi and on highway I cruise around 120-140 kmph, finding it completely safe as handling and breaking is really good, so spending above 12-15 lakhs on car definitely needs a powerful engine.

VW has clearly designed it for enthusiasts and it shows.. have you TD'ed the car yet? I did and I loved it
