One of the greatest bands i ever had the privilege to see multiple times they should've been massive they deserved so much more than just being remembered for the fantastic "calling all the heroes" It Bites=Genius Band ❤️
To me they were 70s Genesis meets 80s Genesis with Peter Gabriel singing, with a bit of pop thrown in. That for me was the problem, they were too prog to be pop and too pop to be prog so they fell between two stools, most misunderstood them and they faded into insignificance. A real shame, they should have been huge. OATW and EMISL are classics.
Aw man this brings it all back... absolutely the best live band i have ever seen by a country mile. And this is one of their finest songs. Once Around The World was welded to my hi-fi for months when it was first released and is still one of my first choices.
I thought they were a flash in the pan, but their album was full of brilliant material, wonderfully performed. He was a great singer and the band gelled really well.
I'm so sad of discovering these incredible guys just one year ago. I can't stop of listening to their lovely songs, specially the entire album Once Around the World
Don't be sad ! Now You know what. So many people don't even imagine such a band like It Bites exists !!! Especially Once Around !!! Enjoy like myself since 1988...
First heard the album in 1989 purely by accident. Loved it ever since. So clever and melodic.Frank Dunnery has to be one of the most underrated players ever. Pure class x
Best band of the 80's! So glad a got to see them on there album tours back in the day. And watching Frank playing them still with his band, and his house concerts too! Lovely bloke is Frank and a great musician.
A brilliant band, brilliant times I saw them twice both at Hammersmith Odeon. Fantastic. I was inspired to take up guitar seriously after seeing them. Thank you it bites x
This is where bass and drums become what they are....well done you two. Brilliant empathy. Not sure I've ever heard a pair so right on the night..you did quite well too you other members...the guitarist bloke and that chap on keys with the hat. xxxxxxxxx
Thank you so much for sharing this unique piece of awesomeness. Am now 40 and have loved it bites for the great majority of my life. Love Frankie (solo albums - TBH) and love The Tall Ships. Cannot think of a better prog/pop band.
Wow, thanks for posting this. I saw the It Bites with Dunnery 5 times back in the late 80s. I love the studio recordings, but this really brings back how incredibly exciting they were live. John Beck standing up for applause at 8:00 is hilarious! This is a beautifully structured song. It starts off as a light rock song, albeit embroidered with those deft keyboard & guitar licks, but becomes a massive prog anthem. And who else , other than the Catholic church, writes Latin lyrics..!?
***** There's a really nice clip of him doing a private gig in a hotel suite somewhere on RUclips. Playing a keyboard. Does a really nice medley of Peter Gabriel era Genesis. Thotch-tastic.
Frank looks totally spangled, loving every minute and everyone. As tight a 4 piece as ever there was. So tight, even the occasional attempt at jamming screams out like a choirboy in the Vatican. So many entendres there I forgot what I intended to suggest. It Bit the big one
Always a bit difficult as to what to listen to....that driving force of bass and drums..both awesome or the tune itself. Years worth of study there. Thanks guys x
Love itbites, got all their songs, twice I had tickets to see them but both times never manged to see them, gutted. Although this is called Old MAN and the Angel, not old men lol!!!
We must all have our 'how the hell weren't this band massive?' examples - and, of course, we will never know the others.....cos whoever they were, they remained largely unknown. Just like our beloved It Bites. But FFS - HOW IS IT THAT IT BITES WEREN'T MASSIVE?????? The last time I saw them live , with John Mitchell and Nathan King (still a great line up) they were playing some sort of weird bar/youth club in Bristol. A venue that did not befit a band of this skill and stature.
How come so many kids of today think some of the bands of today are great when they are just chord bashers or just somebody talking on record all sound the same one verse twenty nine chorus this is how you play it bites in there prime with Francis dunnery great band live and musicians so do yourself a favour and learn to play something a hobby you may enjoy it instead of listening to old rope here today gone tomorrow
I dont think they were too clever for their own good, all their songs are perfectly structured. They keep the prog back just enough, but let it loose to make it way more interesting. Their problem was that they only did 3 albums!
Seen It Bites 3 times in the past before IB they were a cover band playing all the club's in the north west especially Cumbria where they were from they were called "Waving at trains ".Frannys brother played also Baz great guitarist also sure he did some work with Black Sabbath ...
@Tedgrantite This track (in particular) can really be compared to Yes and Genesis...and It really is what both of those bands could have been (Not taking anything away from either band) Effortless playing of complex time sigs and being effortlessly catchy and musical at the same time - That is really something - Incredible playing - why they never made it it one of the biggest mysteries of modern music.
Is John Beck the coolest dude or what? Saw him in Birmingham a couple of months ago and he's still the man. Love the way this band are totally misunderstood / ignored - though they probably wouldn't be keen to agree with me...
@mizunomp100irons1 I've only been in the USA for oh, 17 years. I grew up in the UK, saw It Bites five times in the 1980s, saw Dunnery over here a few times, almost had a Dunnery house concert here but my better half talked me out of it...

one of the most under rated bands ever.
Should have been the New Generation “YES”. These guys were way beyond everything else at the time.
To me they were 70s Genesis meets 80s Genesis with Peter Gabriel singing, with a bit of pop thrown in. That for me was the problem, they were too prog to be pop and too pop to be prog so they fell between two stools, most misunderstood them and they faded into insignificance. @@chrisrevill8717 Exactly
The whole Band were absolutely awesome musicians. Must mention the magician John Beck!
Everything about this band is spot on
The Keyboard player was a great show man too.
Aw man this brings it all back... absolutely the best live band i have ever seen by a country mile. And this is one of their finest songs. Once Around The World was welded to my hi-fi for months when it was first released and is still one of my first choices.
Wow. It is truly a shame that these guys never got huge. Some of the best music of the 80s right there.
How the fuck 'Dunnery' manages to sing and play that complex rhythm at the same time flummoxes me. Genius' all of them.
Agree 100%
I thought they were a flash in the pan, but their album was full of brilliant material, wonderfully performed. He was a great singer and the band gelled really well.
tokyo live!🇯🇵🗾
It was really worth it.
Thanks イット・バイツ!☺☺
Excellent Drumming from Bob :)
I'm so sad of discovering these incredible guys just one year ago. I can't stop of listening to their lovely songs, specially the entire album Once Around the World
Enjoy, i purchased that album for my eighteenth way back in 1990 and have loved it ever since!

Once around the world WOW that tune really does go once around the world Gr8 Taste :) :) :)
Don't be down on this, be happy that you did discover them in the end and can listen to their exceptional output, of which IMO, OATW is the pinnacle.
cant believe this was 21 years ago !!! i followed these guys from the first album ....they are still amazing x
Best band of the 80's! So glad a got to see them on there album tours back in the day. And watching Frank playing them still with his band, and his house concerts too! Lovely bloke is Frank and a great musician.
Frank Dunnery is a genius.
Amazingly talented guys in an amazing band. I love this song.

One of my favourite songs of all time! So hugely underated this band, both then and now.
A brilliant band, brilliant times I saw them twice both at Hammersmith Odeon. Fantastic. I was inspired to take up guitar seriously after seeing them. Thank you it bites x

I could watch this all night long...no wait...I have...again
You don't get much tighter than this....absolutely AWESOME !!!!
One of the best keyboard solo ever listened to.
+Roberto Di Peco ...yeah, and i think my mate(!) Frankie speeded the proceedings up a bit....just for a laugh.
Love this bsnd i was lucky enough to see them live
Just watched this agin. They were the best. Just superb.
Wow ! I just discover their historical band and guitar leader. What a good song ! Many tone changes, keybords virtuoso. Nice.
One of the most beautiful songs ever.
Saw them three times and still one of the best bands I've seen
It bites are like Guinness. You either do or you don't. Personally I love both!
Simply stunning. ❤
still makes me grin from ear to ear .....
Classic - simply brilliant.
This was the same time around I saw them open for Jethro Tull , still my favorite band ever
Amazing playing and dynamics.
Thank you so much for sharing this unique piece of awesomeness. Am now 40 and have loved it bites for the great majority of my life. Love Frankie (solo albums - TBH) and love The Tall Ships. Cannot think of a better prog/pop band.
Respecting your position on appreciating these 3 guys, may I share something I also like- ruclips.net/video/n8B0xa8W12U/видео.html.
Peace, Bob
Congrats 101,090 views Most deserving band Francis is such a talent
Keep bringing it on!
I love this track
Check out their 1st and 2nd albums - great stuff!
Unreal thanks so much for posting some of this concert... off to practice guitar again....inspired by a master player.
Jesus shit blood, this is so great. The most overlooked and under rated band of the 1980s.
Best Band Best Song EVER
Towering talent. All of them.
I love It Bites!
My favorite version of this song! Well worth getting hold of the DVD.
Wow, thanks for posting this. I saw the It Bites with Dunnery 5 times back in the late 80s.
I love the studio recordings, but this really brings back how incredibly exciting they were live.

Wouldn't it b great to c them again play live ?
Brilliant band, brakes are amazing.
Watch Frans left hand & how gentle his cords are played....Women must love him
I first saw them support Go West at Hammersmith Odean in 1985. A class act!
I saw them at Manchester Apollo, same tour!!! Saw them again open for Robert Plant a year or two later... left after IB :-)
ambiguation I saw them on that tour too.
Same here, only I fell asleep during the Plant show.
Francis is touring as "Francis Dunnery's It Bites" in the UK late '19, early '20 around the UK. And not a DX7 in sight!
Wow you deserve a sticker!
I'll be their✌
So UNDERRATED!!!
Awesome!
5:17 is even better. :-)
My favourite live band ever. Just brilliant.
Absolutely f***ing sublime!
great band
They were both brilliant in their own way. Kurt was supernaturally talented.
OK, so. It Bites are one of the greatest bands of all time.
***** Francis Dunnery is still touring.
***** There's a really nice clip of him doing a private gig in a hotel suite somewhere on RUclips. Playing a keyboard. Does a really nice medley of Peter Gabriel era Genesis. Thotch-tastic.
***** Somewhere in Carlisle.
***** ...my mistake, it was Cumbria.

***** Always glad to help a fellow fan of real music. Are you into Ozric Tentacles?
I deliver stuff to their home town now and then. Useless bit of info for you!
Simon George Egremont !
that was just SICK! looks like i've found another great band to inspire me!
I love Francis and all his blonde 80s hair!!
Like Kurt Cobain Nirvana.
A great Musician and more importantly a great man. Hair or no hair :-)
Yet another very good English band, what is it about England, how do they manage to turn out so many great groups?
Ignore my previous 'non comment' I do apologise. This is a truly brilliant Performance by the band :-)
Best live performance from It Bites. Chapter 10 (5:18) is absolutely heartbreaking.
Frank looks totally spangled, loving every minute and everyone. As tight a 4 piece as ever there was. So tight, even the occasional attempt at jamming screams out like a choirboy in the Vatican. So many entendres there I forgot what I intended to suggest. It Bit the big one

Simply epic.
Outrageously good. Great song BUT, these guys could PLAY!!!
They are really good.
Nothing wrong with a bit of energetic prog from time to time.
amazing IT BITES
I dont think they were too clever for their own good, all their songs are perfectly structured. They keep the prog back just enough, but let it loose to make it way more interesting.
Their problem was that they only did 3 albums!
Excellent.
How good can a band be? Impossibly good
Seen It Bites 3 times in the past before IB they were a cover band playing all the club's in the north west especially Cumbria where they were from they were called "Waving at trains ".Frannys brother played also Baz great guitarist also sure he did some work with Black Sabbath ...
Frank hall on drums Glynn on bass don't no the singer?

Oh yes!!!
Great bass player.
'Man', man and the angel.........
Me too!
@CundyCha
I believe you can buy the DVD and/or CD from Francis Dunnery's website.
@wuckle totally agree x
Francis Dunnery gave Kurt Cobain his look!
truley awesome
It's actually 'old MAN and the Angel'
Is John Beck the coolest dude or what? Saw him in Birmingham a couple of months ago and he's still the man. Love the way this band are totally misunderstood / ignored - though they probably wouldn't be keen to agree with me...
I blast this album in my car every day people are like wtf is that dude listening to ??? If only they knew ay!!!
@mizunomp100irons1 I've only been in the USA for oh, 17 years. I grew up in the UK, saw It Bites five times in the 1980s, saw Dunnery over here a few times, almost had a Dunnery house concert here but my better half talked me out of it...
Still miss you Kurt
This reminds me of World Trade...Billy Sherwoods awesome band from the 80's.
Impressive Beck's solo on 7:35
Beck is the biz.
