Girl, I was crying with you, and I've been listening to this song for like 30 years lol. That song was kinda the anthem for the broken-hearted for my generation...if that performance didn't make you feel something, you need a new soul. Eddie's still amazing, one of the most important voices of our time.
I've seen several comments about this, so I'll reiterate it ~ Jeremy should be next, and it should be the official unedited version. But if you cried at this song...bring your tissue box. It's an incredibly important song, the story's impact is best felt through the official video. "Porch" live at pinkpop festival is next on the list after Jeremy.

If you react to "Jeremy" from Pearl Jam i recommend the official video uncut, the unplugged Version is very good but the context and song is better expressed in the official video(Evenflow is also recommended). Also their song "Evolution" was impressiv but insanly depressing(the award wining offical video is amazingly drawn, but the emotional summary of humankind is really not light on your mind). Keep on rocking Aileen, greetings from Cologne.

I was born in Tacoma Wa a little south of Seattle in 1980 and left to Texas when I was 10 years old. Something I remember as a kid was in elementary school, the curriculum was teaching us music theory in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade. They really push the arts in school in that area at least when I was there. They had none of that in Texas until middle school. Needless to say I was drawn to music early in life because of this and became a musician. This could have been why such musical talent came from that area at the time.

I don't know what it is about watching other people's reactions to this performance, but it's almost validation for how deeply this song, the lyrics and the passion all resonate with me emotionally. It moves me to tears every time because like many people, I too, have felt this way about a lost love. This is cathartic, I guess. Thank you for the free therapy session lol

Loved your reaction. The thing about Eddie Vedder is that he can’t sing any song without putting his entire being into it. He gives 100% every time. His lyrics are poetry, and while his voice has deepened, and he doesn’t hit the high notes as much anymore, it’s still beautiful 30 years later. Pearl Jam is a deep rabbit hole worth diving into, as is Eddie’s solo work. I simply adore his voice. If you react to his work, I’ll be listening. Subscribed.

I'm from Seattle and lived through the entire "grunge era." Eddie was one of the nicest guys you would ever want to meet, he'd talk to you about anything but just don't fan on him as he'd walk away from you. This particular song was very personal to him and he did not like talking about it, or listening to others do so. All I can really say is that it was a great time to live in Seattle and I miss it very much.

Besides the heavily emotional delivery Eddie pulled off for this performance, the other thing I truly admire is how he just went for it, in that acoustic setting. It was a very small crowd, but also intimate, and as a vocalist you have to push thru and give it everything. And Eddie absolutely did.

"Black" is simply a stunning heartbreak of a song, beautiful no matter what version of it you watch (personal favourite is the live version from Pink Pop in '92). Not a bad song on the 1st album "Ten", from "Jeremy" (the official full video) and "Porch" (Again, the live at Pink Pop '92 version is fun) to "Garden", "Even Flow" and "Release" - i'd also recommend checking out stuff like "Wash", "State of Love and Trust", "Breath", "Indifference", "Rearviewmirror" from around the period of the 1st and 2nd albums (and from the 2nd) - there's a lot of later stuff that's awesome as well, and a great band to see live :)

Sadly this live version was shortened but for full lyrics:
    Hey, oh
    Sheets of empty canvas
    Untouched sheets of clay
Were laid spread out before me
    As her body once did
    All five horizons
    Revolved around her soul
As the earth to the sun
Now the air I tasted and breathed
    Has taken a turn
Oh and all I taught her was everything
Oh I know she gave me all that she wore
    And now my bitter hands
    Chafe beneath the clouds
    Of what was everything
    Oh the pictures have
    All been washed in black
    Tattooed everything
    I take a walk outside
    I'm surrounded by
    Some kids at play
    I can feel their laughter
    So why do I sear
Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin
    Round my head
    I'm spinning
    Oh, I'm spinning
How quick the sun can, drop away
    And now my bitter hands
    Cradle broken glass
    Of what was everything
    All the pictures have
    All been washed in black
    Tattooed everything
    All the love gone bad
    Turned my world to black
    Tattooed all I see
    All that I am
    All that I'll be, yeah
    Uh huh, uh huh, oh
I know someday you'll have a beautiful life
    I know you'll be a star
    In somebody else's sky
    But why
    Why
    Why can't it be
    Oh can't it be mine

My friend had just got dumped by his gf so he wanted to listen to this song; poor guy looked completely defeated and destroyed. Since then though he found great girl, married and with kids. I recommend pretty much everything on their first 3 albums and a whole lot more after that. I mean they're my favorite band so I like almost all their stuff. But to name a few. From their first album, Ten: Deep, Porch, Release, and Garden, plus all the stuff that was on the radio like Even Flow, Alive, Jeremy, Once. Also from around this time but not on the album is a really great song called Yellow Ledbetter. From their second album, Vs: Dissident, Indifference, W.M.A. and all their singles, Go, Animal, Daughter, Rearview Mirror, and Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town. On their 3rd album, Vitalogy: Tremor Christ, Last Exit, Spin the Black circle and their singles Corduroy, Immortality, Not For you, and Better Man. Well that should keep you busy for a minute. Anyway that's their first 3 albums. After that they had less hits but there are still plenty more great songs to come. They have like 8 more studio albums after these.

I don't really sing but since I love this song so much, me, as a shy guy, usually when pressed against the wall is my go to song, and I'm happy that most people don't comment about vocals or rythim, they comment about the emotion, and that keeps me going as a guitarrist... This song really is meant to be played with emotion (no fear tho) and just pure dedication and fuch everyone that is around. Just live that moment. And it amazes me how Eddie has done that so many times just perfectly. You gotta watch his tribute to his friend Chris Cornell at Firenze Rocks 2017.. It'll be the most emotional version you'll ever hear
