It's interesting to hear someone actually care about the lyrics of a rock song. I'm guessing that's what being a "hip-hop head" lets you bring to the table. You seem like a cool guy. I think I'd enjoy listening to music with you.
"I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky. But why, why can't it be mine?" is in my opinion one of the greatest lyrics and it really hits home for people who've loved but wasn't really loved in return. No matter how much I listen to this song, it always cuts me a little deeper each time.
I think this : "I take a walk outside, I'm surrounded by some kids at play I can feel their laughter, so why do I sear" it's the epitome of depression.. and how I can relate to that... jesuschrist.
And the way Eddie sings that verse it in this version, with all the emotion! It will never be duplicated. So much better than the album version, which is amazing to start with!
"Black" his best song! And he sings it exactly the same way today in 2020! His concert in 2018 in Lollapalloze in Sao Paulo, Brasil is unforgetable! Same spirit/soul! Eddie is genuine human being! What wonderful to know this kind of human being still exist in our days!
When I’m at my lowest emotionally, I play my ten album and sing along with E.V. And let all that emotion out. It started with the first time I heard this song back in ‘92 after my best friend and I got our first tattoos when we were 18. Her boyfriend’s roommate said hey you should listen to this song and he played it and it gave me one of my most important emotional crutches to get thru the hard times. Thank you for bringing back that memory. I had totally forgotten exactly why I loved Pear Jam so much.
This was always my favourite song off Ten, then when they did this unplugged session, this just messed with my mind in a good way. Eddie Vedder will always be one of those crushes that never goes away, hes just amazing. That line...as someone mentions below, I know someday you'll have a beautiful like, I know you'll be star in somebody elses sky, why cant it be mine just perfect and heartbreaking
This song and the song RELEASE were the favourites of me and my dad.... traveling the roads.... we always had Pearl Jam and U2 on the speakers..... I played relaese and One TRree Hill of U2 at his funeral............................ this song brings it back
This is one of the songs that defines my teenage years, way before youtube, I’d wait hours in front of mtv to see this video. Young loves, many beers, nights awake, the beauty of waiting. I still play it on my guitar for my kids
I feel blessed for turning 18 when 90's started. What a beautiful decade for music itself followed by some of the best band ever making history. PJ, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and masterful projects like Temple of the Dog, Mad Season. Big TY. RIP Andy Wood, Chris and Layne, my dear friends.
"Beautiful.. I have chills I almost feel sick" this is beautiful itself. So true. Real raw emotion in songs is fading imo. It was a big 90s band thing tho. I miss it
Eddie is sooo talented its insane. He has such a unique voice. There are lots of people from that same category, But nobody sounds like him, Its so full and natural. It just comes to him like second nature, you can tell he isnt trying hard to make it work. And its great every time
This whole concert has always been overshadowed by Nirvana’s as well as Alice in Chain’s...which are both great. But this one from start to finish is a complete ball of energy musically,l and physically. Just grabbed my copy on vinyl last Record Store Day.
cocu ald Not sure I’d say FAR. It’s great...Nutshell to kick things off is iconic...but this concert was amazing as well. Had they burnt it to CD and sold it back then, it would be considered a classic as well.
I'm 51 years old and remember watching this Unplugged every chance I could. This is my all time favorite version of my all time favorite song so I've heard it hundreds of times and watched this video dozens. And still, to this day, it brings tears to my eyes. You can feel the pain in Eddie's voice. This song is intensely personal for him. It contains what is, in my opinion, one of the most powerful lyrics ever written "I know some day you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star in someone else's sky, but why can't it be mine?"

Dude I have been spamming your videos to review this for months! Your reaction was 110% what I thought it would be. It’s great seeing a review from an actual person and not a singing critic. Such an emotional song. Awesome stuff!
My wife of 13 years and the mother of our 4 children and I split up about a year ago, and while we remain friends, I've been going through some severe depression because of it and the fact that I suffer from a pretty severe physical disability, so I can understand this song so much deeper now than I used to.
Dude, I feel ya. My wife of almost 20 years hit midlife crisis and left a little over 3 years ago.. used to love this song, but now, it's difficult to listen to

THAT was the BEST reaction I have seen to this performance and believe me, I have watched MANY to this particular song and performance! Pearl Jam is the best live band! And Eddie's voice is so emotive and not every singer has that, no matter how technically great their voice is. That's raw power. He would be touched to see your reaction.
Thank you so much for reacting to Pearl Jam Unplugged! I have been waiting for so long!!!! I'm so glad you see the talent and truly appreciate the greatness!
Loved your reaction. I had to share this with FB group " official pearl jam fans" I've seen Pearl Jam at least 100 times in concert. You should see them live. They still put on a great show
Eddie Vedder is amazing. This song has been one of my favorite songs for a long time. Now that I am married it has take on a different meaning for me and I fight like hell every day to keep my marriage strong.
First time I heard this song I wept. Even though at that point I didn't even have my first relationship, let alone first breakup. I must've listened to Black hundreds of times but it still gives goosebumps.
I feel like I'm holding my breath because it's so intense, especially toward the end. Eddie just sings his heart out and I love his instant expression change after he drops that last scream. ( kind of like "well that song is done, what's next?). That's cool 😎 and confident. Great performance.
I am 40 next year and only heard this song becausr someone did a cover. Now I have seen this it all makes sense. The cover was amazing but holy hell this was something else. Its like he goes to another place. I can hear pain, sadness, anger, love and just broken in his voice.
So glad you loved this, Alex. We were waiting for you to react to black unplugged after you did the studio version. One of the greatest live performances in history!! Your reactions are my fav!
There are still some bands and groups, I don't know about individual artist/performers, who put stuff like this out. But they're a drop in the ocean, sadly. The main reason I don't listen to the radio anymore, hardly know any new trends, learn months later that favorite bands have released new songs or albums. But, it keeps me from hearing heartless samey-same bullshit.
Eh, there's plenty of modern music with heart & feeling, it's just rarely on the radio. There were also plenty of bands back then that didn't have "heart & feeling".
Wow. One of my favourite bands, one of my favourite songs, and my favourite version/performance (the whole Unplugged set is a masterpiece). Your commentary/analysis was perfect. I get goosebumps listening to that song, and, as strange as it may sound, I got goosebumps from your comments. The lyrics were beautiful, your words were beautiful. You just got it. In other news, I got stood up on a date tonight, and this came up on my suggested videos to watch. 😂 Thank you for doing this track, liked, loved, and subscribed.
Garden is another powerful song. Evolution is another favorite of mine. Throw in some daughter and animal n boom. Those are just a few of so many amazing songs. Their debut album 10 is legendary, every song on it is gold.
"I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be the star in somebody else's sky...." That line gets me every damn time. Had my high school sweetheart who was the one where we just couldn't explain but we knew and loved each other deeply as if we have in past lives but the world gave reasons that it wasn't supposed to be in this one. But I told her years later this song was basically my song to her and before I even said what the name or who it was she said the same one. She has a husband now and a family and seems happy. I used to call her my light to my darkness so that line specifically cuts into me deep. But what a beautiful song and what amazing passion that he sings with. Makes you really appreciate what's real in life. I hope despite everything going on in the world that we never forgot what really matters. God bless and much love to everyone.
Pearl Jam: one of the best grunge bands ever. Live performances so great. This song is one of the many that is so deep with meaning and can touch anyone about everyday life, love, tragedy, happiness and on and on.
This song is so emotional. This performance capture them in their youthful prime and exuberance. So much emotional outpour could be felt in their earlier days. That's not to say later on they didn't bring it but they did. This will always be a classic and this will always be targeting out your heartstrings

But never truly understood it until that moment. It helped me in so many ways, It got me to let it all out and let it all go🙏
Oh and to anyone feeling/relating to this song right now, it does get easier. Just give it time✌
I've been mourning the death of my girlfriend who passed away from cancer 3 years ago. This song hits me so hard it hurts.
My deepest condolences.
Josh and Red.... stay strong guys
Amen...
my dad told me when i was like 10 that this would be the song i listened to when i got heartbroken for the first time. 🤯
Ed laid his whole self bare for everyone to see in that performance.
This is without a doubt The Best Song I witnessed live.
U saw them 😱
Same here dude! Hyde Park 2010 was unreal
@@gavinwilliams4607 Twice. Once at Pinkpop and once at Ahoy Sports Palace. Bothy times the 12+ minute live version of Black was the highlight of my concert-going experience.

Imagine how therapeutic and cathartic this performance must’ve been for Eddie
It's interesting to hear someone actually care about the lyrics of a rock song. I'm guessing that's what being a "hip-hop head" lets you bring to the table.
You seem like a cool guy. I think I'd enjoy listening to music with you.
"I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky. But why, why can't it be mine?" is in my opinion one of the greatest lyrics and it really hits home for people who've loved but wasn't really loved in return. No matter how much I listen to this song, it always cuts me a little deeper each time.
Best lyrics ever
That guy had some pipes, I grew up on Pearl Jam. Thank you for the reaction.
I think this :
"I take a walk outside, I'm surrounded by some kids at play
I can feel their laughter, so why do I sear"
it's the epitome of depression.. and how I can relate to that... jesuschrist.
And the way Eddie sings that verse it in this version, with all the emotion! It will never be duplicated. So much better than the album version, which is amazing to start with!
Doesn't he say ... " I can't feel their laughter , so why do I stay ?" ?
This is why I don't like going anywhere
Can someone give a translation for the word sear? I only know it in the way you sear meat
Bruce ripmeester that’s the one. He is burning with anger and pain.
Eddie has a direct line to my feels! One of the most talented people of all times.
Too right, I’m damn near 43 yrs old and I still fan girl over my man, Eddie
This is one of the best live performances I’ve ever seen. If I ever want to get anyone into pear jam. This is the performance to show them.
This song and the song RELEASE were the favourites of me and my dad.... traveling the roads.... we always had Pearl Jam and U2 on the speakers..... I played relaese and One TRree Hill of U2 at his funeral............................ this song brings it back
Please play Black and New Years Day at mine!
"All the love gone bad, turned my world to black" gets me everytime.
I turned 18 in the mid-90's and I definitely feel the same.
Lol you reacted exactly the way the song was meant to hit someone.
"Beautiful.. I have chills I almost feel sick" this is beautiful itself. So true. Real raw emotion in songs is fading imo. It was a big 90s band thing tho. I miss it
This got to be one of the top 10 live performance ever recorded. Imagine the people who were in the studio. they knew they witnessed history
Eddie is sooo talented its insane. He has such a unique voice. There are lots of people from that same category, But nobody sounds like him, Its so full and natural. It just comes to him like second nature, you can tell he isnt trying hard to make it work. And its great every time
Nothing like Eddie Vedders voice, plus from things he’s done in the past he’s a genuine, caring, loving person ❤️😍😘💯
This whole concert has always been overshadowed by Nirvana’s as well as Alice in Chain’s...which are both great. But this one from start to finish is a complete ball of energy musically,l and physically. Just grabbed my copy on vinyl last Record Store Day.
alice in chains unplugged is far superior to this
cocu ald Not sure I’d say FAR. It’s great...Nutshell to kick things off is iconic...but this concert was amazing as well. Had they burnt it to CD and sold it back then, it would be considered a classic as well.
yes im not saying that this was bad not at all
Agreed! This is my favorite unplugged concert.
I absolutely love the AIC unplugged, but man this is perfection
I'm 51 years old and remember watching this Unplugged every chance I could. This is my all time favorite version of my all time favorite song so I've heard it hundreds of times and watched this video dozens. And still, to this day, it brings tears to my eyes. You can feel the pain in Eddie's voice. This song is intensely personal for him. It contains what is, in my opinion, one of the most powerful lyrics ever written "I know some day you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star in someone else's sky, but why can't it be mine?"
Greatest song of all time.
Finally, Pearl Jam has to be one of my favorite bands of all time 🔥🤘🔥🤘🔥 glad you liked them bro👍👍👍👍👍
MTV Unplugged produced some of the most incredible performances I've ever seen.
One of THE great performances of anything ever.
Still gives me chills 25 years after I first heard this fuckin made my teen years bro
This has always been my favorite Pearl Jam song. Twenty-eight years later, it still gives me chills!
you need to hear him sing with Chris Cornell Hunger Strike by Temple of the Dog
+1,000,000.
Love Temple of the Dog!
Yes!
YES
Two vocal beasts
I think Alex is the guy that everyone wants as a friend
Dude this song is from the album 'Ten' and is genuinely one of the greatest rock albums ever recorded.
If you ever do another full album reaction then please let it be that one.
I'll third it!
Dude I have been spamming your videos to review this for months! Your reaction was 110% what I thought it would be. It’s great seeing a review from an actual person and not a singing critic. Such an emotional song. Awesome stuff!
best live performance ever
My wife of 13 years and the mother of our 4 children and I split up about a year ago, and while we remain friends, I've been going through some severe depression because of it and the fact that I suffer from a pretty severe physical disability, so I can understand this song so much deeper now than I used to.
Dude, ive had depression since i lost my gramma, in 1999. And I dedicated bkack to her. Hang in there man.
Dude, I feel ya. My wife of almost 20 years hit midlife crisis and left a little over 3 years ago.. used to love this song, but now, it's difficult to listen to
@@rickknox1118 I know exactly what you mean
Keep your head up brother.
Hugs for y'all! Stay safe!♡
Probably one of the greatest live performances of all time.
Rick Beato just today released a "What Makes This Song Great" on this song. Well worth checking out.
Great call! Love Rick’s channel!
I became This song.
Im 42 ans Never forgot my first love. 15 to 22.
Ive hit the jackpot with her and i screw it Up... now she s the star in someone else sky ... im single no child but happy
THAT was the BEST reaction I have seen to this performance and believe me, I have watched MANY to this particular song and performance! Pearl Jam is the best live band! And Eddie's voice is so emotive and not every singer has that, no matter how technically great their voice is. That's raw power. He would be touched to see your reaction.
that "surronded by" part always gives me chills
FINALLY MAAAAAAAAN, I'M SO HAPPY !!!!!, I WAS WAITING FOR THIS DAY!
No one has said it yet? Allow me to let you know that it doesn't get Eddie Vedder than that🤙🏽
Ho Brah! What island you from? I grew up Big Island Kona side 😁🤙

Your facial expressions towards the end were priceless. This song hits hard bro.
Love it. Love the song since the 90’s, but love your reaction just as much ... ;-)
One of my all-time favorite performances 🖤 back when MTV was good
Back when the M = Music.
This has to be one of the greatest musical performances ever recorded. Eddie's raw passion and the tightness of the band combines and it's like magic.
Poured his entire soul into this performance
nobody does "real" like Eddie
THIS is exactly what is missing from today's music, fn heart & feelings!!
Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave.. lots to listen to and enjoy.
Eh, there's plenty of modern music with heart & feeling, it's just rarely on the radio. There were also plenty of bands back then that didn't have "heart & feeling".
Try Blue October
Check out the savages- adore life
I saw him a couple years ago and he still sounds the same
Listening to black on repeat since my girl left me amd i tear up when he goes "why, why? why, cant it be, qhy cant it be mine"
Cuts to the soul of heartbreak. Whoevers been there understands and drops a tear. We're all human. Great reaction. TY 👍
That was a great reaction! You seem to totally get the magic of Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder’s vocals. So fucking amazing!!
Garden is another powerful song. Evolution is another favorite of mine. Throw in some daughter and animal n boom. Those are just a few of so many amazing songs. Their debut album 10 is legendary, every song on it is gold.
I can't even count the number of times I've had tears stream down my face by the time Eddie gets to why why can't it be mi, minnnnne
"I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be the star in somebody else's sky...."
That line gets me every damn time.
Almost identical experience here. Marines and nursing school for me and her respectively.
This is my music buddy. I love watching reactioners watch 90s music.
