LONG TERM COMMENTS In the vid, Jeff mentioned he didn't like the nozzle. It takes very little pressure to trigger it, and occasionally it was leaking his gear bag if squeezed between other items. But then we found out you can turn the nozzle to turn it off, doh! So ignore that comment.
In our dirt riding group, Scott is very particular about his gear and never liked his current backpack. He tried this one, loved it, and raced out to buy one. He's used it for a few months now and gives it a big thumbs up as well.
We measured the bladder, the specs are slightly inaccurate. It takes around 2.8L at the max mark, not 3L.
An added plus, I found a rainproof cover in a pocket for when it rains...
What backpack do you use? Let us know the good, the bad and the price! Obviously the Klim is more expensive than most, but we are looking at top shelf gear for some big adventures coming up. But we want to know about budget options that are good quality too...
A QUALITY ALTERNATIVE? One of our guys ordered the Giant Loop 3L hydration backpack, seems like very good value at USD139. No issues so far but we'll report here on any long term issues.

Two years with this pack constantly in use.
Its been a good pack with no real issues, mainly personal gripes. It ended up my go to and even use it everyday for work too.
Most of my issues won't be a problem when used in dry hot climates or where it rains briefly.
It fits snug once the straps are set, but the straps don't always stay in their tidies and the slack ends flap and whip off yer lid.
Over a multi day ride the straps loosen off and the weight ends up being transferred to your shoulders and lower back.
I marked them with a sharpie for a quick reset.
The curved backplate isn't all it's cracked up to be, it makes loading the bag harder and imo doesn't help with airflow. If wearing body armour it makes no difference.
Water bladders inside bags are a risk, swamping the contents if you spring a leak. Thankfully its never proven an issue.
The rain cover is ok for a light shower, but on a longer ride rain does get driven under it.
The straps soak up water and anything in the harness pockets ends up wet.
At least make the pockets waterproof or come with custom dry bag liners like kriega packs.
Mute point really as even the fully waterproof enduristan pack straps end up soaked and hold water. Two nice wet patches over my shoulders carrying my gear into work.
Its been really durable though and the only wear its got is the rubbery coating on the top pocket is cracking and lifting from abrasion where its been chucked about.
Size is on the small side and the back plate shape makes it harder to pack than my kriega 15, the Arsenal 30 is too big, i would like to see a 20ltr with a flat backplate and have better foam inserts to keep the air gap and spread the load.
For this winter I'm going back to a Hurricane 15 pack, but fresh Arsensal pack will be on the short list for a new spring/summer pack next year, hopefully by then klim may have some more options

Great long term comments, I haven' hit any of those issues with our short dirt rides as yet... fingers crossed.

@@crosstrainingenduro it's a great pack, I went for it over the Nac pak as the harness pockets are too small on that to fit larger phones in.
Packed light the straps don't usually move 👍

I have had this backpack for a couple years now and I love it! I also use if for day hikes and as my tackle bag when I go motofishing.

Just bought a camelbak 20ltr HAWG. It replaces a similar unit that’s about 6 years old. Used on the wr250/ktm200 for trail rides plus on the 690 for adv rides. Was after a bag with multiple compartments to keep things separated for easy retrieval.

This bag is great. I've went through hiking bags cheap and modestly priced and this bag takes the cake.

I have a zacspeed for lightweight enduro stuff and a the 1st edition of this backpack for when I need to carry a bit more. The Klim has been great, held up really well and I’ve never found the airflow to be an issues personally, Klim gear in general is well thought out and made with care using quality materials. I’ve owned this bag for over 5 years, still going strong.

Good to hear, Scott. We are coming up to two years without a single issue so far.

@@crosstrainingenduro the only thing I find slightly pointless is the kangaroo pouch part, I’m too nervous to out anything in it in case it falls out!

I was wondering about that too when I first bought it... but we had a lot of wet weather recently and it was great just shoving the raincoat in that pouch when not needed. And it wasn't getting anything wet inside the main zip.

Recently bought the 30L Arsenal, as a replacement for my always-everywhere backpack, both on and off the bike. Liking it so far, though the ventilation seems better on the 15L and I wish it had similar front-strap pouches for small stuff. TET in French July summer heat will be the true test, in a few weeks. FYI: Water-related stuff is all HydraPak (in the 30L at least), just like some 'normal' trekking backpack brands. There's replacement and upgrades/accessories for that stuff online too, if wanted/needed.

We've been using them every weekend for close to two years now. Not a single issue. If we hit any problems we'll put them in the pinned first comment.

im using the zacspeed. great quality comfortable and can change the straps to chest protector or straps with more pockets like the klim. it also has a waist strap to stop it bouncing around.

Most of our guys were using Zac Speed but almost all of us had failing zips and slowly changed to other brands. But I know plenty of guys say they are lasting well.

I have this backpack as well. Sadly one of the straps broke within a few rides. I just tied the strap up and have used it that way for past 1+ years.

Did our friend Jeff take it to the coffee shop as well to see if the ladies and BMW riders there liked the colours by chance??

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  7 месяцев назад +1

Usually he only rides to coffee shops, Nick. Very rare to see him in the actual dirt. He mainly attracts the men, not the ladies lol.

Ya backpack is so vital,, its got to be minimal and hold loads ,this looks the business, sold

      @crosstrainingenduro  7 месяцев назад +1

Definitely expensive, but if it lasts way longer than the cheap ones then I figure it's actually better value in the long term.

I like the pockets on the front shown in the vid, but - to be honest - it looks like the rucksack is wobbeling around when riding. I got 2 USWE packs (25l for big tours and a 8l for racing), very good quality, they stay in place all the time and all terrain + my opinion - look better. 😐

I used to think that years ago. But you still get one you pay for in most cases. Asian factories always offer a range of budgets. Spend more? The quality goes up. I've been monitoring reports of Klim quality for years now and it's been consistently high except for their gloves.
