  • crosstrainingen... Our review of the Klim Arsenal 15L Backpack. When it comes to backpacks, a common problem in Australia is finding a good quality backpack that has good ventilation and is secure over rough terrain. Enter the Klim Arsenal 15L backpack. Jeff has used this in all sorts of conditions - the beach, the desert, adventure rides and enduro rides. As usual, we will cover what we like and don't like about the Klim Arsenal Backpack. The ventilation. When your body is straight, there is plenty of air circulation. When you are leaning forward, there is plenty of padding, mesh and air spaces for maximum ventilation.... fantastic in summer. The Klim's curved shape also helps if you are carrying a lot of weight. There is an internal frame that helps to place the Klim Arsenal Backpack weight on your hips, not your shoulders. Welcome to Cross Training Adventure, we are into all things dual sport and adventure on the east coast of Australia... with occasional detours to places like Vietnam, Cambodia, Romania and Canada. This is one of our three channels, there's also a Cross Training Trials channel, and a Cross Training Enduro channel. The waist strap is easy to adjust. Unlike a lot of current backpacks, it isn't made in China. This is good to see! All the Klim Arsenal Backpack materials seem to be very high quality. 500D Cordura for the exterior. Reflective Scotchlite for safety on the road with the Klim Backpack. A removable rain fly. The 15 litre capacity is only the mid-sized Klim backpack, but it has worked well so far for adventure and dirt riding. The Klim front pockets are easy to access and also have back padding. There are outer mesh pockets too. I asked Jeff what he didn't like about the Klim Arsenal Backpack. He said the mouth nozzle is very sensitive and needs very little pressure to activate. He tried storing it in this mesh pocket but it would leak with the slightest pressure. He is considering using a different nozzle. I pressed him for criticisms and that was it. He says the backpack has been incredibly comfortable and well worth the money. The Klim Backpack price will be an issue for many riders. Jeff is planning a pile of adventure trips overseas, as well as enduro riding every weekend. So he says paying extra for comfort, quality and durability is a no-brainer. But others who ride a lot less may want to look at budget backpacks. I googled around for complaints about this Klim Backpack. I could only find one. The earlier models didn't have good airflow but this has been fixed. Remember to see our pinned first comment for long-term comments. If we do come across any long-term problems we always post these in the pinned first comment of our RUclips video reviews. So that's our review of the Klim Arsenal 15L Backpack! My current backpack is on its last legs so I think this will be my next backpack as well. All three are equally dodgy. We are the 27th most watched dirt channel in Uzbekistan. We have won the polished turd award five years in a row. And we have a world record 25 class action lawsuits for inaccurate information. We think the whole motorbike scene is getting too commercial. So called dual sport riding reviews are just glossy ads nowdays. Everyone is trying to sell you stuff you don't need, convince you to buy the latest model with anodized coffee cup holders for your trips to the coffee shop. So most of our adventure riding vids will feature the much loved bush pig, the Suzuki DR650. And we've done a 10 part series on how to unleash the mighty beast that lurks within. What else? Cross Training Adventure actively avoids sponsorship. Or don't subscribe to our Cross Training Adventure riding channel. The main thing is get out and ride while you can with dual sport riding or Adventure riding in Australia, Canada, Vietnam, Romania and beyond! So check out Cross Training Adventure.

    LONG TERM COMMENTS In the vid, Jeff mentioned he didn't like the nozzle. It takes very little pressure to trigger it, and occasionally it was leaking his gear bag if squeezed between other items. But then we found out you can turn the nozzle to turn it off, doh! So ignore that comment.
    In our dirt riding group, Scott is very particular about his gear and never liked his current backpack. He tried this one, loved it, and raced out to buy one. He's used it for a few months now and gives it a big thumbs up as well.
    We measured the bladder, the specs are slightly inaccurate. It takes around 2.8L at the max mark, not 3L. An added plus, I found a rainproof cover in a pocket for when it rains...
    What backpack do you use? Let us know the good, the bad and the price! Obviously the Klim is more expensive than most, but we are looking at top shelf gear for some big adventures coming up. But we want to know about budget options that are good quality too...

    I have a back pack tip. I’m using the Klim Nac Pack right now. I bought the Camel Bak 3 liter lumbar bladder. It’s short in height but wide. I slip it in the Nac Pack main compartment. Keeps the weight low and you feel more balanced.

    Backpacks/HydrationPacks: I have way too many to remember but my 3 absolute favorites are:
    KLIM Nac Pak Technical Backpack With KLIM Shape Shift 3 Liter Hydrapak - @ $150-$299us
    Nelson-Rigg SE-3020 20 Liter Gear Hurricane 20L Waterproof Backpack/Tail Pack - @ $130.00us
    And the
    Nelson-Rigg SE-3040 40 Liter Gear Hurricane 40L Waterproof Backpack/Tail Pack - @ $150.00us
    All of them are OUTSTANDING build-quality, and their designs are absolutely top notch!
    I'll rock the Klim when just out bombing around and/or on shorter 1 day rides..
    Kinda sorta the same deal w/ the NR 20L - since it's still relatively small[ish]
    The NR 40L gets broken out whenever a long ride or for multi day rides..
    The NR bags Rock because they also double as tail-bags. 100% waterproof doesn't hurt either.
    🤘

    Love your Videos. If you really need the full 3L capacity all you need to do is separate the shape shifter baffle inside the hydration pack. It can be snapped together again if you prefer to have the baffle system work to disperse the water in the pack better.

      My last backpack was close to the price of the Klim. I had my car keys in an internal pouch but the entire side seam split and my keys landed at my feet. So glad it wasn't when I was riding... it would have been two hours for one of the other guys to drive back into town for my spare set.

    Klim offers nice high quality gear. Personally, I’m not carrying unnecessary weight on my back while riding a motorcycle, hydration pack only. The tools and everything else can ride on the bike.

  • @rshawiii
    @rshawiii 2 года назад +1

    we got a couple of very similar ones for snowmobiling. came with the tool pouch, etc. The snow version has pockets to handle your avi probes and shovel handle. the shovel head itself stores in the kangaroo pouch. In summer on my dual sport I have found that this backpack fits better and stays put over my Fox Titan crash gear than any of the many other packs I've collected over the years . We use Hydrapak bladders and have insulated hoses for winter. These do not have a super lot of room. Good for the water, bars, spot, and few small clothing items. I make the horse carry the rest of the extra crap I somehow think I need.

      The Zac Speed design is great! I love being able to add the chest plate. But it's a shame they never added shoulder armour. A few years back they planned to do this but nothing emerged. I've just gone the other way actually. A seam split on my Zac Speed and my car keys fell out in the forest on our last ride. And the zips are getting very hard to use... so I just got this Klim backpack last week.

    I got a Outrak vapor hydration pack on sale at bcf for $30 it has done over 100 hours of winter riding. It has taken a tumble or 10. Holds 3 litres of water. Tool kit, phone, spare brake and clutch levers some lunch no worries. I wear a full plastic body armour so comfort not a problem for me. The thing has had 0 love I might of put it in the washing machine once. I didn't even empty the bladder out over summer wasn't green or off in the tube or anything.

      It's interesting how you can hit it lucky with cheap gear sometimes! I remember buying a $65 mx helmet years ago at Aldi that held up much better than far more expensive helmets I bought in later years... But nowadays I'm tending to spend the cash on good (non-Chinese) gear and do my research to avoid the expensive but poorly made crap that's out there.

    If I use a backpack it's the same 2 Camelback's I've had for 22 yrs. Blowfish and Lobo. Blowfish being the larger of the two and comes with a 3l vs 2l bladder setup. Used for MTB, long street rides, trail rides, enduro and hare scramble events. I more typically use a Dakine waistpack these days with a bladder. Can tell the weight distribution and airflow have come a ways over the years. I simply don't need that much carrying capacity (on the back) based on what I'm doing.

      Great to hear they lasted that long, Jeff! Always good to buy stuff that lasts. I wonder if they current models are just as good? So many brands have moved manufacturing to China and the longevity suffers as a result.

    Klim seems to be your go-to gear for many accessories. I'll stick to my $30 Adidas backpack that's lasted two years already. Last years Dell laptop backpack is also a worthy contender for a MC backpack.

    • @crosstrainingadventure
      @crosstrainingadventure  2 года назад +1

      It seems most of their gear is highly rated by the riding community. Except for their gloves, judging by comments. A laptop backpack is an interesting idea... do they do an outdoor type?

    • @cobrin6437
      @cobrin6437 2 года назад +1

      @@crosstrainingadventure no, not dell specifically, the best protection they'll provide is a pull-over rain cover that's hidden in the bottom of the bag. Padded sections, pockets etc. There are adventure outdoor types, but you'd not like the bulk. I do like padded sections that hold shape, instead of a flimsy nylon liner partition, for example.

    Nice backpack and all my existing Klim gear has always been great, BUT I’m still enjoying my ZacSpeed Recon S-3 pack that I bought last year with their large bladder and the nozzle is a non-leaker. Did a 300 and a 400 mile dual sport multi-day ride already this year and love the fact that I can adjust the weight balance with the easy straps. The new packs today Barry are really a big departure from just 5 years ago. I look forward to you getting one of these beauties and letting us know your thoughts 💭

      Yep, I've been using the Zac Speed for years now, Mark. Quite a few of my mates do as well. Great design, very comfortable. I love being able to fit the chest plate, but wish they'd designed shoulder armour too. However we found the zips are an issue. One of the guys had most of his zips seize up by about 18 months. I got about three years on my first one before this happened, about two years on my second one. Unforunately a compartment seam split open recently and my car keys dropped out in the middle of the forest... thankfully I spotted them! So I just got my new Klim backpack a week ago. I actually find the mouth piece is fine on mine, not easily triggered at all. Only one ride so far, super comfortable and seems to be an excellent bit of kit.

      Yeah I got the Recon with the chest plate, nice, BUT the shoulder protection is non-existent which is “lacking” for me. With a past broken clavicle, collarbone and a twisted rotator shoulder protection is paramount.
      I’ll keep close eye on the inners to this Zacspeed S-3, and I do try and treat my zippers with respect, after all we don’t wanna get anything stuck between them 😉

    • @crosstrainingadventure
      @crosstrainingadventure  2 года назад +1

      I zip tied some old knee guards to my Zac Speed for a while to try and get some shoulder protection. Another mate of mine did the same. The zip issue seems to be very random. In the early days, they had a lot of zip failures but replaced them all with new backpacks. Then they upgraded to YKK zips. But most guys in our group seem to have zip problems around the two to three year mark. I spoke to a guy who uses Zac Speed for his dirt bike tour business and he's had zero issues, so I figure it's just a random thing?

      I think it makes sense in the long run. Years ago I decided to spend big bucks on my everyday backpack which I also use on international trips. Dealing with busted zips and split seams is pointless, especially if you might lose a passport. And having said that, I almost lost my car keys on our last ride when a seam split on my Zac Speed backpack. I just popped out last week and got this Klim backpack myself.

      I hadn't heard of that one. Just had a quick look, I'd say the main difference is the extra compartments look as though they sit lower on the pack, probably to lower the centre of gravity a bit? The front pockets take your standard phones easily which is a nice touch.
