  • crosstrainingen... tractionerag.com Looking for quality cost-effective motorbike luggage? This is our Nemunu 'throw over' luggage review... a kind of luggage similar to motorbike saddle bags but different. Top boxes and hard panniers are great if you want to leave gear with your motorbike securely. But often this style of 'throw-over' bag is perfect when you don't have too much gear and you want to take it into your hotel or tent. Keen on adventure riding in Australia? Check out our vids. There are some cheap Chinese options not covered in this Nemunu 'throw over' luggage review. Welcome to Cross Training Adventure, we are into all things dual sport and adventure on the east coast of Australia. I have used them but the seams can split easily and leave your stuff halfway across Australia! Enter this quality motorbike luggage option from Nemunu. Years ago I switched to more expensive handlebar bags and bum bags because the cheap textile versions would wear out too quickly or break. And different saddle bags. These guys are experienced motorbike luggage leather workers in Lithuania who specialize in this motorbike luggage. These are completely manufactured in Lithuania from materials sourced in Europe... no cheap nasty crap here. And the Euro has dropped recently making it quite cheap. The advantages? There are no racks. It's waterproof. It's light. And there are many strong mounting points and various straps to make this motorbike luggage fit any motorbike. You can place heavy items in the bottom sections then put lighter items like your sleeping bag at the top. This keeps weight low and your motorbike handles much better than just a bag strapped to your seat. It also centralizes the weight so you don't get that sketchy feel when there's too much weight toward the back of the motorbike. The abundance of mounting points also allows you to strap more luggage on top of the bag. Nemunu also make these 'sleeve bags' which let you carry water or fuel bottles at the lower points of the bag... again keeping weight low. Ergonomics? If you like dual sport riding in Australia then you might like our adventure riding vids.
When positioned correctly the bag won't interfere when you stand on the footpegs. You can even position it to provide a bit of lower support for your back if the bag is quite full. And when I carry a backpack I adjust the straps so the backpack rests on top of the Nemunu which takes the weight off my shoulders. Closing the bag? You just roll the rear section until it's tight and then fasten two clips. If you aren't carrying much luggage you just use more rolls. The capacity is impressive... this is the most I've carried so far. It's quality gear. Much of the bag uses industrial fabric from Germany. Impact points use Cordura and the inner liner has sealed seams to be dust and waterproof. Last year I decided to avoid cheap nasty products so it's been a relief to use this bag to carry things like my drone. Any issues? None yet. As always we put long-term comments and updates in our pinned first comment. Watch that space! I you think this luggage might suit you try it before the euro bounces back up again.
Check out our reviews of various adventure bikes and dual sport bikes.
We have occasional detours to places like Vietnam, Cambodia, Romania and Canada. This is one of our three channels, there's also a Cross Training Trials channel, and a Cross Training Enduro channel. All three are equally dodgy. We are the 27th most watched dirt channel in Uzbekistan. We have won the polished turd award five years in a row. And we have a world record 25 class action lawsuits for inaccurate information. We think the whole motorbike scene is getting too commercial. So called dual sport riding reviews are just glossy ads nowdays. Everyone is trying to sell you stuff you don't need, convince you to buy the latest model with anodized coffee cup holders for your trips to the coffee shop. Of course if you are cashed up and into bling, go for it. All we are saying is there's also the budget option for adventure riding. And it won't hold you back. Why? We reckon it's 80% the rider and 20% the bike.

WHAT IF THE BAG IS EMPTY? A few viewers asked if it flaps around when not full. As per the vid, you just roll it up until it's tight and close the clips. If it's half empty, just roll it more until it's tight. It comes with octopus straps too and if it's completely empty you can just use the straps over the top if it looks as though it might flap around.
CHEAP WHILE THE EURO IS DOWN The bag is made in Lithuania which uses the euro currency. The euro has dropped 25% over the past year making this very affordable as of Oct 2022. E.g. about USD 143 or AUD 225 Remember to watch this pinned first comment! If we do hit any issues with the bag over time we always report them here.
IS IT A GIANT LOOP RIP-OFF? A few viewers have said they think this bag is a rip off of the Giant Loop bags. It's similar but there are definitely differences. And there are other similar bags such as the cheap Chinese made Third Gear bag which have been around a very long time... possibly longer than Giant Loop.
WEAK PLASTIC BUCKLES? The bags have been great. However, the plastic buckles don't appear to be that strong. One viewer says his Nemenu bags have been great except he broke a plastic buckle. I recently had the same issue and wasn't pulling that hard on the strap.

Hi Guys, a short update as i ordered and started using these bags on an SWM RS500 enduro bike, 2 rides isln loaded just working the setup and thus far oretty happy with them. Note the plastic buckle straps are weak so ive gone to Grunt straps from bunnings cheap and work sweet. Using 2 heat shields on the exhaust and also stick on heat shield to bags on exhaust side. They are defo waterproof and build quality is good, a great option and the price is reasonable for quality. Will know more once a few long rides are completed, they are dust proof and robust for the odd slap sticks!!

I haven't started using luggage but have a large backpack. Mostly good enough but not ideal. The bags you're demoing look like a good size.
My used bike came with a set of wolfman "day tripper" and tank bags so this video has inspired me to put em on and try it out!

Bags look nice, roll top closure is good, price is even better. My one comment is: size matters. Website says these are 40 litres which is too small for me. I use an old Giant Loop Great Basin (65 litres) and it's perfect for long dual sport trips carrying all my camping gear. I also have a Giant Loop Coyote which is about 40 litres and way too small for multi day trips. YMMV and of course anything will work, just go ride!

    Hi,
I am just deciding on what kind of soft luggage I want to buy for my dual sport bike. I am torn between getting saddlebags like the Rhinowalks 28l + a luggage roll on top for lightweight gear OR some kind of horseshoe luggage as you show in the video. What are the benefits of the horseshoe design in comparison to saddlebags + luggage roll on top?
I thought that saddlebags are more convenient for the days I don´t need the luggage roll on top, because a horseshoe design will probably flop around when half empty. Any thoughts on this?

Curious how you attach the middle of the U to the bike. The Giant Loop has two metal bits that grab the plastics. Always works well. These seem to only have a strap which wouldn't work for my XRR unless I use a rack, which I don't want to do. I like the multiple extra mounting points, but they don't have cinch down straps like the GL does and I'm not sure I trust the "two twists and clip" system... I've had dry bags vomit my kit all over the place when I didn't roll it over at least 3 times (edit, I looked on their website and it says there are stiff rods in there which would probably solve this... smart!). But man, for 150 euro... still worth a try.

Using Andystraps soft panniers here. They were perfect right up until I high sided my bike recently and the front nylon straps ripped out. Quite possibly a good thing in hindsight as it should hopefully be easier to get them fixed than had something more substantial got damaged? Not certain but loved them when touring.

I dont need anything as big and bulky that makes the bike handle oddly off road and catch on bushes etc.My solution ,small handlebar bag, tail bag(givi) on a tiny rack, waist bag so you cash etc is always on your body,a rucksack and a fairly small luggage bag on the passenger seat.

Great advice, Nick. I 'adventurised' a Husaberg FE570 years ago. Luggage? I just kept it to a minimum and strapped a dry bag on each side of the bike to lower and centre the weight. Generally it would be 12kg for a week of camping/riding and didn't affect the handling too much at all.
