    Like to point out that many may find that some methods are not safe or hygiene but I feel it is still safe within the limits. A lot times hawkers need to move fast so customers no need queue so long. And furthermore most food poisoning cases happen on franchise chain stalls especially when not cook by the owners themselves. These hawkers know their trades well and been there for years. If there’s any issues they would have ended up closing the stalls for good already.

      For the beef noodle one, quite risky contamination when he move the beef parts to boil and the noodles are just there. If it was soup based, then no issue for me.

      Another observation, when one has moved/lived in another country/not eating the usual hawker fare eg cockles (see hum), can easily have allergic reaction or contract food poisoning eg campylobacter intestinal infection. I never eat see hum at all now. The seas are so polluted that even the big oysters that u eat fresh with squeezed lemon can be hazardous.

    I stayed at the block next to this hawker centre during childhood/teenage years so I know which are the old stalls - the dessert stall, the prawn mee stall, the curry rice stall are among them. Some stalls retained their names but already changed operators as the older batch of hawkers retired n they took over (with decline in standards), e.g. the fried bee hoon stall n the oyster omelette stall next to it. All these stalls were not featured in this video. Btw, there's a turtle soup stall here as well, thot might be interesting to some? This hawker centre is surrounded by 4 coffeeshops so if no stalls appeal to u, u can always visit those coffeeshops to browse further.

      Thanks for sharing so much details 😀 I usually go in blind and look for some older or popular stalls to feature. Most have already changed owners and some aren’t that receptive to be interviewed. And yeah.. so many other food options at those coffee shops surrounding it. I frequent one of the Tze char stalls beside the main road. In fact.. I’m there for pottery every weekend 😂

From your videos, I have complied a listed of centers and stands I have to visit but the list is now too long to ever accomplish on one or to visits to Singapore. And with more of your visits the list will continue to grow.

I would love you to start having a look at the local hawkers and markets in the actually residential estates, (the older ones) I believe there is some fantastic unknown hawkers among them. Long long time ago, the hawker stalls are housed in a few rows of blocks. I like one selling a noodle with mushroom with large amount of vinegar taste. There was also a good pork porridge stall manned by a thin middle age lady. The stall was not furnished with cement walls and floors. We would crack an egg in our metal container to buy the porridge. These blocks were all gone.

    • @Piggypuggy
      @Piggypuggy  3 года назад +1

      I remembered they were usually a very basic row of structure. And stalls were kinda like market stalls with lower segregation. The base of seats would need another block of concrete to secure it.. and bring your own eggs 😅 thanks for the memories

    My wife’s aunt lives across from this center, so we’ve been there a lot. Old Long House is the best in Singapore. Never fail to go there at least once on our trips. There’s a stall for fish all noodles that’s very good as well…..always a long line. And there’s a Malay stall with the absolute best mee rebus I’ve ever had. In the back, there’s a seafood restaurant that’s very fresh and very good. This is quite a good, yet unheralded food center.

    @5:16, the uncle takes tongs sitting in the raw beef container directly into cooked noodles. The noodles are not recooked (although they're pretty hot at that point), but simply covered with hot beef and sauce. Subsequently, he uses the same tongs to take other raw ingredients while still manipulating cooked noodles with said tongs. I don't know about you, but that's probably not best practice for food safety (cross-contamination).

      Yeah.. 40over years.. we’ve enjoyed Hawkers like these without issues. The boiling hot gravy probably did the job. So no worries 😉

    piggypuggy, i am NOT happy with your channel. please remove all the food content & replace with your Pug content. hahaha, kidding only my friend. by watching your videos, you have kicked up my appetite. now, i want to eat Agar agar. previously, your video made me crave for SG hokkien mee and traditional pastries/snacks.
