Ryota Kozuka is still soooo underrated amongst JRPG composers. I hope people getting into Vengeance as their first SMT got to appreciate Kozuka more. Dude has been working really hard making bangers.
I wish this Q&A was 10 times longer. Kozuka is insanely talented and doesn't get nearly enough recognition in the game music world, that's for certain. SMTIV/A/V soundtracks've been in my regular rotation for the better part of a decade.
He really doesn’t. SMT IV, IV: Final (aka Apocalypse), V, and now V: Vengeance are in my rotation as well (even though my phone’s storage is a paltry 64 GB). I can’t praise his, Kenichi Tsuchiya and Toshiki Kenichi’s work ethic enough, it’s insane how great the OSTs for those games have been. Speaking of _Vengeance,_ Kozuka reached into his bag for that one. It’s a lot more distinct and varied, I think, compared to _V,_ and is what I think V’s OST should have been in conjunction with V’s beautiful ambient pieces and battle themes. All in all, Kozuka, Tsuchiya, and Konishi don’t get enough love for the fantastic soundtracks they’ve created, and they should honestly be in the greater discussion of video game composers.
89 new songs in SMTV:V? That's kinda impressive but did you know i can listen to "Battle - humans, demons, and..." 89 times in a row without getting tired of it?

So much promotional material is being put out for this game and I am here for it. I love the sound of SMT V and I’m so excited to hear the new tracks from Vengeance
I thought it was pretty clear that SMT V's main themes give off vibes of glory, divinity, and mystery using loud gongs and sharp resonant sounds and the like, so it's kind of interesting to see how Kozuka took inspirations from all over the place, personally I absolutely loved it and Don't even need to spoil any of the new music, I know it's gonna be masterful as always.
@@officegossip Meguro don't want return to mainline, because he told in some interview hated composing music for older games (mainly SMT), and he told he prefer compose something more mainstream, like in Persona 3-5 games (money talks everything + lazyness ...). I mean, IV music was GREAT, no wonder the influences where mostly 80s stuff. That said, V had amazing songs but it does feel like I couldn't find the influence, it was ominous at times, which it was cool. Vengeance does feel more... furious?, not exactly that but it can definitely show the idea of Vengeance and it feels like it contrast with V, for example the heavy metal theme of the trailers is becoming one of my favorite and cannot even hear it full yet!
