yup, I MEAN we are talking about the same community that cheer over a ''door sign'' and new school bag swatches that you can out in inventory as a mini box after getting a lame gamepacks, they cheered it so hard it was as if the second coming of Jesus by EA.
That's so true, I don't get why spending 40 dollars on buggy and empty DLCs is so normalised in the sims community. They are even selling packs that don't even work and they still defend EA...
@@akuma1362There’s a backpack you can’t even wear on the sims BACK and can only put pointless stuff in then put in your inventory. Like…why? Why drop a backpack you can’t wear on your BACK!!!
the fact that they showed us the development from scratch is what made me believe that they're legit, creating The Sims-like game is not easy and they don't have the resource or help from former sims team is incredible. Some game takes time but I'm sure it's gonna be worth it
Right. There are probably many out there but Paralives was the first I’ve seen where they include us through the entire development journey. It’s honestly pretty cool to think we were involved since the start of this amazing project.
They make like 30k a month, there is no incentive to release the game , once they release it (if at all) the money stops. They will just continue "working" on it until the money stops then theyll blame the patreons for not supporting it and then the game will be dead. Mark my words, this will be exactly what happens
How do they expect a team of 10 to a create good life sim game quickly when even EA -a huge company- always release a half baked game? Masterpiece takes time!
That’s what I’m saying! Where are they getting these expectations from?? The companies on such a larger scale won’t have a game ready in at least 5 years. Make it make since 😭
I spoke with my brother about this situation and he brought up a good point which is that other indie dev release portions of their games to paetron members as a way to test their product but also to instill confidence in their fan base. I think Paralives would benefit from such action honestly
adding to that, EA the huge company release half baked games and also take years for them.. i mean when did sims 4 come out.... 2014?? That's 9 years... but then complain about Paralives
@@mlw9195that’s their eventual plan, but they don’t want to do that until the game is properly functional. When your doing a game in stages it’s easy to just do one stage and then release it to try out, you can’t do that with a life sim really.
I feel like Paralives could be the next Stardew Valley. It is being developed by an unbelievably small team and has the potential to become one of the best games, offering cuteness and hours of enjoyment. Stardew Valley, a pixel-style game, was created by just one person and took four years to complete. Paralives, being a 3D game, which is somewhat more challenging to develop, is being created by a team of only 11 people. Of course, it will take time; it's not magic.
i got a switch for the sole purpose of animal crossing, but once i downloaded stardew i literally found myself SO BORED in animal crossing that i just kinda stopped playing 😭🫣
My guess is that a lot of people that are interested in Paralives don't know much about game development so they don't know what to expect. So far it doesn't look like a scam to me. I believe in the team and wish them all the best.
Yess. I’ve noticed a lot of confusion on development. Once you understand the full timeline, it all starts to make since. The team is doing such a great job. Beyond proud of them 💜
I just made a video about this yet I keep forgetting ts4 was completely rushed, I think in a 1 year span which is so insane. Right paralives needs to take as much time as it needs pls 😭
@@marta9854people need to understand paralives is a very small development team they not a massive million dollar company like Maxis. Making animations is not easy at all, routing, getting the basic core features in and making a decent economy as well which isn’t simple, voice acting don’t even get started on making other life stages too all the extra animations for babies and toddlers learning to walk, strollers etc 😭 😂 and whatnot. There’s just so much for basic core things before there’s a demo/test play it’s so sad how people are so judgmental and pushy. Paralives is working as much as they can for a small group that needs donations. I think also people need to really calm down on the suggestions I don’t want paralives to be overwhelmed or feel like they must add suggestions right away instead of later on.
Also let's not forget the Paralives team had to reinvent their paramaker/para skeletons when it turned out the initial pull and push system turned out to be patented and they had to create their own (imo, superior) system. That was back in 2021 IIRC and their team was much smaller back then.
its just so ridiculous. its not a sims mod, its a game made from scratch by less than 15 people and they expected its release in 4 years???? ppl really out here putting expectations onto indie projects as if they're triple-A company with hundreds of employees.
exactly, ea is a multi-billion dollar company yet they take years to give us what we want and still havent made a new game and these people are upset over a small indie game?
And the thing is, Triple A deadlines aren't even good for Triple A companies! They're notorious for enforcing crunch time on their employees and putting out unfinished/broken games, and they want to put those same standards on _indie devs?_
I still think they just announced it too early. 1-2 years before planned release would be fine. But it has been 4 year with many more to come and I understand that people might start feeling like it's a scam. I know that making a game takes a long time, but you know, for many fans 4 years is like 1/5 of their life 😂 I was 19 when they announced it, now I am 23 and am I supposed to get the game at 30 when I already have kids? It's just cruel
@@kuku_rydzabut announcing early and giving out information regarding progress of development is not a new thing in the gaming sphere. There’s multiple games out that have been in progress longer than paralives, even announced with only sketches as concept proof. Life sims fans have no other game development process and timeline to compare to other than ea, a huge triple a studio. Also even then sims 4 release with so much aspects missing that was present in previous games only for it to be trickle released in the coming years in the form of packs. Other than monetary support, a development studio especially an indie one can positively gain from having fans feedback and just fan support during development years. It’s not a cruel thing, people are just not aware of the process especially since all we’ve known is ea’s monopoly on the genre for years.
i’m glad they’re taking their time. People are so ungrateful. It’s obvious Paralives isn’t rushing just to put out a half assed game like a certain other game👀👀 people just aren’t used to this
Yeah..but like a lot of games with that kind of slow development and in the end, in a few years they just run away with the money... you can see that everywhere... I hope this time, it will be not the case
Grateful for what 😂 We haven’t gotten anything yet so what is there to be grateful for? I’m going to laugh when they eventually say that the game isn’t coming out.
I can't remember if the paralives said this publicly but I think it was Patreon or discord when they said that they actually already have a estimate release date for alpha but prefer not to announce it just in case they need to push it back. Similar to what life by you did😅
This is just a knee jerk reaction cause they can still “act snobby” cause there is the sims 4. What they failed to realize is, all the amount of cash they had thrown to EA which if were thrown to paralife or life by you, would’ve been more benefitting and we could’ve have a better game than sims 4.
I swear the comments I see do feel extremely reactionary. Like they don’t want to see Paralives thrive? True, LBY or Paralives with a sims budget behind it would be absolutely insane…
Yes I’m definitely open minded about this game bc I’m tired of the sims franchise!! They are just about money !! I have the sims 3 but it’s on my old laptop. As for the sims 4 I have the base game, I refuse to pay for the packs bc they’re broken up unnecessary. So I’m here for this new game !! Like sims franchise have gotten comfortable milking money from their players.
Paralives is the first thing I’ve ever supported on Patreon, I have immense faith in them. As someone who studied software development, I’m extremely impressed with their progress
I don't understand why people are calling it a scam. I can understand the other life simulation called alter life where there are no kinds of update just one measly trailer but not paralives especially when they are an indie studio and have been showing updates over the years. It can be frustrating because I am frustrated but I also know this is an indie studio. I believe those who call it a scam are just baiting them to hurry and finish because they are tired of the Sims 4 and with Life by you having pushed their release date back to March 2024 everyone is getting impatient with these competitiors to end the sims franchise.
The way I completely forgot about alter life. Yikes… But yeah maybe that’s why they have these crazy takes that can be dis proven in a heartbeat. Kind of slimy to bully the game into releasing faster. Tells you a lot about someone tbh 😬
@@mrseddiediaz Define "it". also they recently posted a dev chat and showed live mode on there patreon which is behind a paywall, but they don't have a GAME to give their financial backers yet, I am not mad that they have more up-to-date progress then the rest of us. But it is literally no EA or even Paradox. I've seen full indie developers take up to ten years to produce a game. Then there was the recent unity engine issue that I'm sure affected them greatly since the whole game is being built in Unity.
@@TheDawnofVanlife They also posted a youtube video today with some very chill music for their paramaker. 3 weeks ago they were showing off a bit of the piano skill. Last month they posted a death animation. They devs seem lively, lol.
I'm a game tester, one of the games I worked on will probably be released next year and it's been in development since 2017. And this is with a AAA company with hundreds, if not thousands of employees. Games take SEVERAL years, and that's with a HUGE team.
People give so much grace to these big companies & their crazy time-frames. EA hasn’t released a genuinely new port of their Madden/FIFA in a long time. It took over a decade from KH2 to get the console release of KH3. Rockstar is notorious for how long they take in game development & they are a big company now. GTA 5 (2013) GTA (2024/2025), Red Dead 1 (2010) Red Dead 2 (2018) Red Dead 3 (TBD - indefinitely) I think it’s okay to wait in anticipation of a game but, the standard should be fair. I believe in the Paralives team & I believe if for any reason the project needed to be scrapped they would update the community. Otherwise, I assume it’ll release similarly to TS5 …. One, can only hope! I love a little competition.
Having watched paralives development since day one, I've always felt impressed and excited by the development! If you look at their earliest content you can physically see the progress, it's amazing. Thank you for covering this!
I can’t believe they’ve kept us involved since day one. When we finally get to play, imagine looking back on these days… Tysm for watching! I really need to talk about paralives more 💜
Exactly, I'm predicting another 5 years and I'm honestly okay with it. It's not like there aren't other games to play and life to live. In the meantime, I can play TS2 to scratch that itch.
The fact that they expect a team of a dozen to churn out a game like the Sims, which has practically a whole village of developers within the same time frame is insanity. I would like to add on to the fact that even for the Sims, like Sims 2 or 3, took more than 4 years to develop into a full base game. When they are announced to the public they are pretty much have most of the basic mechanics done, hence it feel like they only took 1.5 to 2 years to complete (because that was the rough timeline between first trailer to release date.) What most people didn't know that Will Wright had already been toying the idea of the Sims since 1995, only in about 1999 the first trailer of the Sims dropped, before its actual release in 2000. No, Sims 1 didn't developed in a year just because you heard about it one year prior. They have done the work behind the scenes.
This is what I was going to point out: so many people don’t seem to realize that by the time a game made by a big company is being advertised and hyped, it has already been in development for years. I think the Paralives team is doing quite well!
The game needs to be put together and somewhat playable to make a trailer for it, that would present those. And the beginning stages are probably the hardest and take the longest, because you need to make everything from scratch. Later on, when you already have some scripts and basic functions, you can make the work quicker basing off of them, but they need to become a thing first. So probably before the first trailer, it's still like 3 years of development. It seems like people think that you have an empty canvas, write two lines of code and have already full game, and they put trailer of already finished game but for some reason don't want to release it XD.
I'm not a developer but I mean...common sense? It takes a long time to develop any kind of life simulation game. When I first started following it on Steam I knew it would be a long time.
With them being a 11 person team now, it won't take them 10 years. For context Cities Skylines had under 2 years of production, in the beginning they were only 5 people, but later 13 people.
Wow I did not know how many people worked on city skylines. True my 10 year prediction is starting to feel like around 6 years. Especially after their latest patreon post. I’m way too pumped 🤭
I don't know where you read where there were only 5 ppl when Cities released. They were 13 people working on the original Cities Skylines, not 5. And Paradox is getting all this 'love and respect' for Cities Skylines, when they didn't even develop it. It was Colossal Order who developed it. Paradox had the money to produce it for them. If Paralives was moving accordingly, they at least should have some solid gameplay by now..5 years..come on. Why is Cities Skylines always compared to life simulation games anyway?
thank you for making this vid! i've seen people calling those who "spoke out" against Paralives' slow development as "being realistic", "brave, and "not delusional", when imo theyre just impatient and putting WAY to much emphasis on Paralives being the game that replaces Sims (most of these ppl complain about sims too). i feel like they dont understand how game development works and how much human resources are needed in creating one that works well. the Paralives team has been very generous at showing us the bugs they have to deal with, game mechanic requests they have to reject, and talk about the game so much you actually feel like your part of their team as well. comparing Paralives against other indie games that were released in 2-3 years isnt a valid argument either, lol
Honestly, I think the people whose priority is dunking on the Sims are setting themselves up for disappointment. Spite isn't a good motivator when it comes to making things, because you're focusing far too much on the competition and usurping what _they're_ doing rather than building off your own, organic strengths. So they're not gonna look at PL as its own product, they're still looking at it through the lens of a Sims player. I feel like they're gonna complain about ANY similarity between the two games rather than just accept that the life sim format has limits 🤷♀️
2030 makes me shed a tear or two but tbh if this game really turns out to be as amazing as they make it seem… I’ll wait an absurd amount of time to get my hands on paralives
I've been a patreon since 2019 and the sheer amount of dev updates they provide is crazy. The progress and passion is obvious. They're working hard!!! We all want it out as fast as possible but it's a team of ten making one of the most complex type of games possible! I think people are so used to cash grab early access games /and/ so used to dev cycles based on 100+ people crunching themselves into early retirement that they don't know how to handle a big game being steadily worked on by a small team. Not to mention the community REQUESTS. Folks will casually drop the most complex gameplay requests ever and then be surprised when Paralives isn't done within two years!
I'm not gonna lie I was sleeping on Paralives until I watched this video. I think people can't accept the fact that there is more out there than just Sims. The Competition is good and I'm glad they're taking their time with this.
I work on a team of game developers for our own personal project and it is rough. It is not easy making a game with such a small team, I will get that out there. There is a lot involved in the process! Honestly it's better if they take their time because we will not be receiving a rushed product as a result. It may take a while, but I think it's worth the wait. What I've seen so far is super exciting and I can't wait to try it out ^^
I remember someone on twitter was complaining really hard about this and really trashing on people who support paralives, I replied to their thread with: "You're expecting a 10 ppl team to make a fully fleshed out game when EA released the half baked trainwreck that the Sims 4 is in 4 years and can't even finish polishing it properly after almost a decade after release, pipe down" Nonetheless, I got insta blocked LOL
I support their patron and they send out update emails really frequently, talking all about how they made progress that week. They are really working on it and it looks so awesome!
Well, that's simple, the person who started the project was alone for a few month before he could afford to hire someone else, and then they needed more time to hire a third... They were not 10 from the get go. Basically they were not only programmers, they had to be HR and a boss. Hiring someone can take time. And even in the first stage the building tools were impressive compared to the sims 4. Granted they could stop focusing on minor details to prioritize building gameplay, but you see that poured their soul into everything they made so far and they also listen to community feedback and adjust as much as they can. Their day to night music transition has more soul than the whole 1500 dollars Sims 4 bundle that was spaghetti coded. I'd rather wait onother 3 years for paralives rather than getting regular "content"
To the people being rude to the people giving us a game we having been asking for and taking time on it. I want to see you and 10 of your friends build a game in less than 4 years with as much detail.
Timing wise, it's probably good that they aren't super close to done yet. The community will focus on LBY first and by the time Paralives is ready, LBY will already have been out for a bit so paralives won't be in the "shadow" of it. Of course I adore them both and want to play both, but I think it will be advantageous if they are not released super close together. Some folks may prefer one or the other so this won't matter, but I'm sure there are plenty like me who are intrigued by both. I would love the chance to fully explore each of them without feeling like they're competing for my time because I'm still getting to know them. The way things are going now I will have plenty of time to explore and enjoy LBY and by the time Paralives comes along, I can shift my focus for a bit. Then hopefully have a nice balance after a while.
It makes me super upset that people are being toxic when the Paralives devs works so hard for this game😭. I think they forget that they only have 11 people on their team. Anyways I’m very excited for the release of Paralives and would be willing to wait as long as I need to for this game lol
Literally! I just don’t get how people don’t grasp that?? EA says the sims 5 is a long way from release, people wait patiently. Paralives constantly reminds community it’s in early development, it’s a scam. This community can be really wacky and delusional sometimes 😭
@@PandaBaeYTIf EA manages to get out a play test before Paralives...then it's most definitely a scam. They can't keep saying they're a 'small team.of 10' forever. This is why they developing so slow. I know dude is bringing in enough Patreon cash to expand his team...
@@asleep2250 I have combed the internet for several minutes, looking for where EA has stated that they started development on Sims5 in 2018. That would mean it has been ongoing for 6 years, which, is NOT in early stages of development. The last live Sims stream, homechick clearly stated that they were in the very early stages of 'Project Rene'..which we now know is Sims5. 6 years imo, is not 'very early stages' of game development. No one but The Sims team actually know just how far along they are. As far as your comparison to Paralives? Perhaps they shouldn't have announced so dam early their development, and then show every single second of it. To some 'fans' they love being nosy and watching every single move made by a company...calling it 'transparency'. Other fans grow tired of the wait and want to get their hands on the game soon as possible..to either play test or to officially play. Others like myself couldn't care less and call BS on the whole 'early development' farce. It's a scam...
As a 3D artist I'm pretty sure people wh complain don't know how to develop a game. Creating a character from scratch, modeling it, making a low-poly version with the details of the high-poly one, and then make it optimized enough to be in a game and run without lagg can take months and I'm talking about only 1 character. Imagine the work it takes to make a FULL game and they''re not a big company, it's amazing what they're doing.
The game still in pre alpha mode. I think they will get the game to alpha in one or two years. They may release it as alpha or beta to clean out bugs, optimise the game and get feedback but we will see. Most indie games released in beta and go on to develop that for years afterward. Project zomboid(released in 2011 as a yech demo) for example is still in beta and will still in beta for at least 3-4 years.
define "real gameplay footage". You mean the part that's being developed as we speak? Character creation and build mode are pretty much done, and now they're heavily working on live mode
I never saw paralives as a scam or a way to get money from avid the sims fans. I see paralives as a genuine passion project led by honest people who just want to bring us an enjoyable experience. Having to wait is the least of my worries, since the more time paralives' team takes, the hopefully higher quality product we get 🤗
Paralives has a lof of pressure, since people knew it was a thing they've been comparing it with The Sims and a lot of simmers that lots enthusiasm because of the sims 4 are hoping a lot of Paralives.
I kinda get the reservations, just look at Yanderedev and his trashfire, but the difference between them was one guy relying on free stuff while he left to play on Twitch all day, Paralives had them actually working and even add other things like babies and skill animations, way more than the 8 years and no Hossana thing and just making a bunch of Easter Eggs of dated memes, I'm pumped but I can't wait for it either, I really wanna make short people I'll change my tune when they complain about those dang emails and take a millennium before adding a rain cycle
Also no-one is talking about the fact that they also had to deal with 2 years of pandemic and lockdown nearly a year after they started developing Paralives which is obviously going to have an impact on the development timeline.
i love your voice! also thank you for defending them, i think a lot of their supporters are children that dont understand what kind of BEAST developing a game is.
I think people are definitely underestimating the amount of man hours and money that it takes to make a game like this work 😬 I’m not 100% blaming the fans, it is the game designers job to communicate clearly too (about their timeline); but I get that since they’re doing something with such a little team that is unprecedented they might not know exactly when the release date is yet either:) I haven’t been watching for the updates for a while now:) but that footage you attached is amazing!!! It really looks like they know what they’re doing 😍
Levem o tempo que for. ❤😊
I'm honestly really excited for this game!:), I hope many people give the game the support and love it deserves once its out, I don't mind how long it takes for the game to be out. Better to take your time on something than just rushing things.
If you see "the devs are actively wasting time" as scam, the game is indeed a scam. I believe some of the reasons why Paralives isn't finished yet, are bad project managment, terrible priorities, and feature creep. The game completely ignored 3 years its own core gameplay loop! They spent 3 years on art and graphics alone. Testing out how fun their gameplay is? Nah. Even today we know next to nothing of the future gameplay, and when you read their Q&As, they don't know either! In some regards, they are still in the first months of production. Stop focussing only on what's artsy and fun. Outline your gameplay. Create a framework for it. Stop falling for distractions and feature creep. Define clearly what you want your game to be. (No, "Sims" is not an option.) Communicate this vision of the game clearly to your players. Get your game playtested. No, working on gameplay does NOT mean working on animations. Holy hell, get yourself a publisher or at least an outside producer, a person who helps you hitting milestones, getting things done, and cut down on unnecessary timewasters.
I think what causes that issue is the fact when Paralives first started, it was one guy Alex. He does not have the ability to, obviously, do everything, the next person that joined was lea I believe who is the...i don't know the term for it but the art character person, so that why i think they ended up working a lot of the parafolks because that was more within their reach to do it. Even if they aren't as organized as a full on company... why does that make it a scam? I'm sure if I decided to start a project when I'm not a manager nor have been of any kind, you wouldn't be like a proper company made team. I bet there are plenty of indie devs doing shit their own way but because they aren't being as transparent and sharing development all the time, no one will ever know that the cool game their playing was made the wrong way round and took longer than it necessarily had to. Sure it can be absolutely completely true they're not completely organized doing things in an inefficient way but... they don't have to be? sure it's nicer and helps development, but it DOES NOT make it a scam. On the subject of them still being undecided on stuff... i don't think they're undecided on what to put in them game, it's just how to implement it like any other game. E.g hey we wanna put a need system in the game, well what should it look like? what should the needs be? how quickly do they decay? etc etc Even with a feature decided, how to actually create it, how to make it look and work is a completely different step. And that's not to mention only some memebers can help with certain things, they all can guve their opinuons and ideas, but not all of then can code, not all of them can animate, or create music for the game either. there's no way in hell the game would have been done by now even if they were working as efficiently as possible because, like i said previously, not all of the 12 members have the same skills like if only 3 of them can actually code ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and again, started off with one guy who does not have the skills to make an entire life sim (that's actually good), 1 guy even if working his best is not going to get as far as 11 people on a team. I bet if they started off with 11 people we'd be way further into development, but they didn't. Just to add, paralives literally does not fit the definition of a scam. Unless the game never comes out and/or turns out to be fake, it cannot fit into the definition of a scam people just keep using that as a buzz word.
I actually expect a game of this caliber and expected quality to take 7-10 years. It would have been earlier if not for the target audience demanding high detail features, like progressive heights, progressive aging, and wheelchairs. I'm with you when you say that they're moving fast. I'm hoping they deliver and that the players appreciate the hard work being poured into the game.
i feel like people have gotten so used to bigger studios making games in 2-3 years, that they forget how long it takes to make a game if you don't have a dev team of several hundred people lmao
really don't understand how people can think that since they get money via patreon than everything should come out in few months; i don't understand anything about software development, but considering how the team has grown in few years and how just a pre-alpha looks better than any sims i've ever played this project is Outstanding! hope they take their time, cause this can be a beautiful indie gem like kerbal
They announced Starfield in 2018, the next elder scrolls game probably won't come out until I'm thirty (im 24). Games take TIME, to make, and I think people need to realize this. They didn't have to keep us updated since day one. They could have announced the game then not show us anything until the release date or close to it. I think it was generous of them to keep us updated on it. But honestly, 4 years is not a long time in comparison to how long actual games usually take. I'd wait 10 years tbh
I'll play devil's advocate and say there 'are' reasons to be skeptical. And that isn't Paralives fault either. There have been massive amounts of past game scams from indie games not having anything to show for it, down to 'AAA' companies nickel and diming us. I think it is pretty healthy and needed to have these kinds of comments. It just shows we are more aware of shady things. Not calling Paralives shady by any means (honestly I wish them so much luck, Sims needs an actual competitor) but when you go the route of being indie, while you are less in the heated seat with a cooperate boss, you 'will' be in the seat with the public. And how you respond (or don't respond) is also a good learning curve. In the video, I also would like to try to avoid being too personal in attacks or personal with praise in going into how small the team is and the work they have done. It almost reminds me of Yandere sim support, where for years being told: "it is a one-man team and to give forgiveness". I don't believe you are trying to go that route, but I just believe no matter how big or small the team is they still have a responsibility, esp. if that responsibility comes with funds. Which they do because of Patreon funds. That isn't to beat them down, at the end of the day business is business, and people paying/buying, while needing to be realistic (yes I agree fans can be a bit too much), there is also the other side of the business not providing communication to these issues. After a while, the term 'small team' won't cut it. I also want to emphasize that both points (fans expectations and dev communication) need to be civil, I am against fans totally going off the rails. If the devs need time to make the game they want by all means, they have the right. Just it becomes tricky when they don't go the stardew valley route and depend on public funds, I'm sure more of the civil things we complain about are nowhere near as intense as a boss telling you a hard deadline. In the end I hope the team luck and you got me interested in the project, so thank you :)
im honestly really excited for paralives. just today they posted on twitter how their apples used to be square (ik not as exciting) and it just got me so hype. i LOVE the development of this game and i wish they take as long as they need.
It's a team of 11 people! They have to code, design, model and animate everything in a LIFE SIMULATOR game. That's so much work, people complaining that they're taking "too long" obviously have no idea of how much work creating a videogame takes
Literally they have the build-mode system, the create a character system, language system, and we haves seen gameplay. All for a super tiny studio that used to be a one-man studio. What the heck do these people expect? How long do they think the game dev cycle is?
It's very simple: A lot of people have absolutely no idea about game development and think you can make a game of Sims 4's size in 6 months, tops. At least they have not started sending death threats to the studio yet which unfortunately isn't uncommon when "fans" get involved with game developers.
They should have crowdfunded a budget and then stopped raising funds. At the moment they make so much money through crowdfunding that it probably isn’t profitable for them to release the game.
EA and the Maxis Sims team literally delivered a less than half completed game after 5 years of development when Sims 4 was released. If I want a completed game, I am NOT going to ask a team that only recently grew to 10 people to do what a full team with hundreds of thousands at their disposal couldn’t deliver on the same timeline
The Paralives team has done things the way that they have because they don't have a company over their heads signing their paychecks. They started putting out teasers and updates in the hopes that excited gamers would keep them fed until the game is done. The end result is that we'll end up with a great game built with love and consideration for what it's players actually want.
I have to be honest, I don't have massively high expectations for this game, and I'm fine with that. I'm worried people see this as a fix for EVERY issue they have with TS4, as the antithesis to TS4, and I don't believe it's gonna be. We need to just wait and see and not assume it to be a Messiah of a game. It's gonna be its own game.
How many small indie games do you know which have an expected development time of like 10 years? That's definitely not the norm. "Sims is a complex game and needs lots of time" ... well, is it? None of the Sims parts needed especially long development time iirc, compared to other games of their era. "We plan to put so many features into the basegame, that takes lomg" ... well, 1. why do you think that feature creep is a good thing and 2. surely this means you are working on these features since a few years already? ... yes, this was exaggerated, but i do not see an obvious reason to take so long. Except of maybe... not having to hurry, since they're fully paid at any time. Cozy developing ;)
Sims 4 was released unfinished. Game releases are only advertised when the game is near completion or shipping time; which is sometimes pushed ahead in spite of the game's development status. We can't know how long a game was in development unless the publishers/developers tell us. The Sims franchise is also developed by a billion-dollar, AAA company with more extensive resources and a worldwide team, to facilitate game development. Of course, they wouldn't need as much time as an indie game that is entirely backed by fans and developed by a team of 11 people (as of now). Game development is time-consuming and expensive. Paralives is made from scratch, has a distinctive style and needs niche coding. The team is making minimal on Patreon, considering their game development, salaries and other business-related expenses. Some games have taken 20 years to complete.
1. Hasn’t even surpassed 5 years so let’s wait before you can say that 2. “Sims development time didn’t take that long” and how did that work out for you?
Sims 4 is scamming them in the first place, but also if these people joined Patreon, they'd get to see a lot more of what is going on with Paralives. A big reason, I believe, Sims/EA has had such a stronghold on life sims is because SIMMERS won't even try to make room for anything else. Any game that comes up, SIMMERS start questioning it, being upset it doesn't have stuff that even Sims 4 doesn't have, they also forget EA has billions of dollars and multiple teams working on Sims 4 (even though it doesn't seem like it), while Paralives has a smaller budget and less people working on it. I also believe a LOT of simmers do not play anything other than Sims, a game that has been around almost as long as I have been and is well established, to know that a game from scratch is going to take YEARS to make. However, it's funny because SIMMERS yell about how Sims needs to go slower and take it's time to make the game better, but they don't seem to apply that to other sim life games. I just can't take Simmers and the Sims community seriously, anymore. I'm just glad I never got into Sims 4 or I'd be out a bunch of money and addicted to the game, too.
I mean... CD Projekt Red (while still considered an indie studio technically, but they are way, way bigger and have a lot more money) took over 10 years to make Cyberpunk 2077. And it still wasn't quite done at release. People expecting a team of around 10 people with only crowd funding to create all the stuff they want/expect in under 5 years is absolutely hilarious to me. Like if it was the same type of game as say... Stardew Valley, sure. But they want it to be at least to the same standards as the sims 4 (and they want it to be better than that). People have ridiculous expectations sometimes.
A lot of their recent work is setting up live mode systems that simple can't be seen without the actual game play animations to go along with it. My biggest worry and has been for a while is the size of their animation team I think they need to hire more obviously they are limited to the Patreon budget but another animator or 2 would speed up this game so much.
people dont understand how much time actually goes into game developement.. I'm in small (10 people) eastern european group creating a video game (im a 3d modeler/texture artist), I've been with them I think 2 years now, and the project has been going on for I think 4 years or so and we are nowhere NEAR finished, and we wont be, we make our game for free and in our own time with 0 money. So I dont really understand wHY people get so pressed that small team takes ages to make a game.
seriously? the gamers' literal 0 understanding of game development never seizes to amaze me. it literally takes top industry corporations 3-4 or more years to develop a F2P game in its most basic form (with lots of updates yet to follow), e.g. Homescapes, and mind you that's thousands and thousands of employees working on it. now imagine an indie studio working on a Sims-like game. (mind you a corporation has been working on The Sims for decades, it's their staple product, and even they cannot make it work without thousands of damn glitches and unplayable in-game events, with all the technology and resources they have)
I assume the Sims 4 builds you were showing were created by you? If so, you are very talented. I'm really looking forward to Paralives. While I wish they had an estimated date for it to come out, I understand that doing so might put pressure on them to meet the deadline rather than make sure the game is ready to release, and we don't want a repeat of Sims 4 release practices. Love this video and plan to watch more of them. I just subscribed.
I think it’s real I think they don’t want to announce a release date yet until they know they r sure it will be release that day cus they don’t want to have to change the release date and disappoint fans like other games have done.
Id rather wait 5 extra years for a reeeeeeally good game, than get a rushed shitty product. Theres thousands of other games i can play in the meanwhile
@@FeRoOOo71 GTA 5 was released 10 years ago. What this means? It means the company waited that long to make a complete and good game unlike EA who release right away and literally no content. You want that? It that your standard? And Mike York, who worked on GTA 5 and RDR2, said: “Focusing on what sells, and the large amount of meticulous and hard work that goes into PC versions of games.”
Though I am 100% behind Paralives, why are you showing The Sims 4 buy/build objects, like it's Paralives, at 1:34? I'm watching this and thinking: This doesn't even look like Paralives! And then I recognized a bunch of Sims objects, you really shouldn't be doing that! I mean you will have people thinking it's Paralives, if they don't notice all the Sims objects! I know it's just the start of the video, but it did at first make me think that it was paralives, since you went from showing the window that can be changed to a different size in Paralives, to all of a sudden showing a door and living area! And plus a lot of what's in it is also a butt load of CC objects, which is what also threw me off for a moment, until I saw some objects that I know is The Sims 4! It makes it look like you're trying to act like you have found more Paralives reveals then anyone has seen! I can see why you only have 1.9k subs, if this is what you do with every video! It's worse then a clickbait thumbnail, because the lie is in the video itself, not a thumbnail! Also, I haven't seen very many people saying this, not anymore, they did at the start, but now we just get a few who are, I know, some die hard The Sims 4 fans, maybe even long time ones of The Sims franchise, but I still rarely see one in comments of Paralives or the other life sim Life By You videos, so it actually is becoming harder to find, legitimate comments from people saying it's a scam! Even the big Sims fans don't, they just act like nether games are as good as The Sims games, which is far from true! But as far as the point of the video, apparently Life By You has been in development for about 10 years, and it still is needing to be tweaked, even before releasing it in early access, they even had to change it's date from this month, to next year on March 5th 2024, so they could fix things that many people pointed out just from the few development videos they had already posted! So yeah, a good life sim is going to take a while, we may not get Paralives for another 5 years, and even then it may also be just early access, to get players feedback! This video could have been much better without the phony footage, whatever its from, I mean like, is that your CC in that part? And you're thinking you might get people to go get it, I guess probably not, so you're using someone else's CC to make a video about Paralives, which is weird! I just started watching more of the video from where I stopped to say all this, and you make good points, but showing NOTHING of Paralives anymore and just showing a bunch of OBVIOUS The Sims 4 CC in someone's build, just makes no sense at all! Not while you're talking about a whole other game, sure a life sim, but not The Sims! I just can't even watch the rest because of this, not sure why anyone did! I mean you have this profesional like intro, but then spend nearly the whole video seeming to be showcasing some CC and a build by someone, which I am assuming is probably you, at least the build part , instead of showing JUST paralives stuff, and there is plenty of it too, there was no reason at all to show any The Sims objects or CC or really anything else much to do with The Sims games! I mean I watch a lot of Simmer RUclipsrs, Pixelade, Simmer Erin, Iron Seagull and Plumbella to name but a few, mostly one's who do Sims news a lot, and now also do Paralives and Life By You, which is more the first three then Plumbella I guess, but she does them still! And my point is, they like to stick with showing whatever Paralives footage there is, even if they have to show old stuff, while they are talking, they don't show just a few things, and then start showing a ton of The Sims 4 stuff or any The Sims games stuff! It doesn't even make sense to! Unless you are comparing the two games actually objects in the games, not CC or mods! Sorry to be so critical, but it's just not cool to be showing a The Sims 4 build with CC in it, while talking about Paralives or Life By You or any other non The Sims games! I really don't get why so many comments seem to be ignoring all this! It's more like an ad for some The Sims 4 CC and or build or both!
I think they made a mistake by starting to share way too early. People who are excited are going to get lost along the way. They should have created in a more autonomous way and ask for suggestions more towards the end.
People are too impatient. We've seen what happens when a large studio cranks out a game in a year. They deliver junk that's broken, unfinished, and not worth the price they charge. Transformers the Movie (the 80's animated one) took 4 years for a major animation studio to create. The wait was worth it. Not everything should be rushed to the public.
I don't know what these people expect. Their team is not big at all, yet they've made it this far. I'm proud of them and want them to take the time they need to release a good game
The houses you picked for this video, wow! I wanna go there irl! Now for the content... they are frustrated and using the word "pathetic" lightly. Ignorance will do that to ya. It's like when a loved one does something you don't like, and you take it as a personal offense, and suddenly it's : "I DONT EVEN KNOW WHO YOU ARE! / YOU NEVER LOVED ME ANYWAY!" No, that's just a surface reaction, there are layers upon layers.
I so want to play paralives. I'm waiting patiently for paralives to come. I don't mind it takes longer, that way you know that most bugs will be fixed and that they take time to make the game good.
These people acting like they aren't being scammed by EA with The Sims 4 anyways 🙄
I swear sometimes the sims feels so borderline illegal these days 😭
yup, I MEAN we are talking about the same community that cheer over a ''door sign'' and new school bag swatches that you can out in inventory as a mini box after getting a lame gamepacks, they cheered it so hard it was as if the second coming of Jesus by EA.
It’s the way the community loses their mind over the smallest stuff that will always have me 💀
That's so true, I don't get why spending 40 dollars on buggy and empty DLCs is so normalised in the sims community.
@@sew_gal7340 30k is nothing when you have 11 people to pay, overhead charges and game developing charges, lol.
@@sew_gal7340they’re going to make money selling the game. Updating it maybe even working on an expansion pack.
@@sew_gal7340How many people are on the team?? 🤔
Exactly
adding to that, EA the huge company release half baked games and also take years for them.. i mean when did sims 4 come out.... 2014?? That's 9 years... but then complain about Paralives
@@mlw9195that’s their eventual plan, but they don’t want to do that until the game is properly functional. When your doing a game in stages it’s easy to just do one stage and then release it to try out, you can’t do that with a life sim really.
4 years is SO little for such a massive project.
Yeah, it's actually quite an ambitious project to begin with.
and most importantly, COVID happened and everything was disrupted.
Literally ppl annoy me
i got a switch for the sole purpose of animal crossing, but once i downloaded stardew i literally found myself SO BORED in animal crossing that i just kinda stopped playing 😭🫣
Beyond proud of them 💜
Yeah, I rather them take their time and create good solid game! TS4 was rushed and unfinished and it has created so many problems.
I just made a video about this yet I keep forgetting ts4 was completely rushed, I think in a 1 year span which is so insane. Right paralives needs to take as much time as it needs pls 😭
Agreed. It’s a huge task to make a life simulator and seniors in this field take much longer than 4 years to make something like this.
It honestly baffles me how they think that is realistic. Are these same people rushing the sims 5?? Probably not… make it make since.
exactly, ea is a multi-billion dollar company yet they take years to give us what we want and still havent made a new game and these people are upset over a small indie game?
It’s obvious Paralives isn’t rushing just to put out a half assed game like a certain other game👀👀 people just aren’t used to this
Exactly! Let them put actual passion and time into their project and avoid turning out like that other game 🤭

I can't remember if the paralives said this publicly but I think it was Patreon or discord when they said that they actually already have a estimate release date for alpha but prefer not to announce it just in case they need to push it back. Similar to what life by you did😅
Based on what I’ve seen from patreon they’re pretty far along than what I expected so I 100% believe that.

Imagine wanting a rushed product now instead of an actually good one later 😤

Exactly. They’ve been super transparent, if people can’t understand at this point, it’s better to leave the game for the rest of us to enjoy 💜
No they haven't updated it

I'm a game tester, one of the games I worked on will probably be released next year and it's been in development since 2017. And this is with a AAA company with hundreds, if not thousands of employees. Games take SEVERAL years, and that's with a HUGE team.
People give so much grace to these big companies & their crazy time-frames. EA hasn’t released a genuinely new port of their Madden/FIFA in a long time. It took over a decade from KH2 to get the console release of KH3. Rockstar is notorious for how long they take in game development & they are a big company now. GTA 5 (2013) GTA (2024/2025), Red Dead 1 (2010) Red Dead 2 (2018) Red Dead 3 (TBD - indefinitely)
I think it’s okay to wait in anticipation of a game but, the standard should be fair.
I really need to talk about paralives more 💜
Same here. I remember when that first video came out and it’s been amazing to see one person’s dream turn into reality as a game
When they are announced to the public they are pretty much have most of the basic mechanics done, hence it feel like they only took 1.5 to 2 years to complete (because that was the rough timeline between first trailer to release date.)
What most people didn't know that Will Wright had already been toying the idea of the Sims since 1995, only in about 1999 the first trailer of the Sims dropped, before its actual release in 2000.
@@PandaBaeYT fun fact, 33 people are currently working there now.
That’s insane… from what I’ve seen the game looks incredible. It’ll be my bday present to myself. I’m so ready to sink hours into this game day 1
They were under paradox though, so they still had a studio to work through. Paralives is a totally indie game.
Paralives doesn't need defending, they're great!

It is not a scam but it'll take many more years to complete. 2027-2030 release date seems reasonable.
2030 makes me shed a tear or two but tbh if this game really turns out to be as amazing as they make it seem… I’ll wait an absurd amount of time to get my hands on paralives
You're deliusional. It'll be out way before that

I’m so ready for more competition. It’s going to be so insane when we can remember these days when life sims becomes so saturated with content.
There is literally nothing complete other than sims. That's the problem. There's no playable competition for that franchise yet.
What I've seen so far is super exciting and I can't wait to try it out ^^
I remember someone on twitter was complaining really hard about this and really trashing on people who support paralives, I replied to their thread with:
"You're expecting a 10 ppl team to make a fully fleshed out game when EA released the half baked trainwreck that the Sims 4 is in 4 years and can't even finish polishing it properly after almost a decade after release, pipe down"
Nonetheless, I got insta blocked LOL
They update us regularly and people think it's a scam? Man I understand being skeptical but thats just ignorant of game development.
Gaming community needs to stop enabling the practice of half-assing game just for the sake of a sooner release. It hurts everyone in the long run.
To the people being rude to the people giving us a game we having been asking for and taking time on it. I want to see you and 10 of your friends build a game in less than 4 years with as much detail.
They are a small group that depends of the patreon and have personal lives and jobs... we cannot expect them to have the game so well done by now
Timing wise, it's probably good that they aren't super close to done yet.
Tbf, ts5 and paralives development both started at tge same time, and the sims 5 is really far behind paralives rn
@@Sim-dil-e-icious again, ea started working on ts5 in 2018, paralives started in 2019, now compare the two
@@asleep2250 I have combed the internet for several minutes, looking for where EA has stated that they started development on Sims5 in 2018.

Imagine the work it takes to make a FULL game and they''re not a big company, it's amazing what they're doing.
all they done is released low poly charecter sitting on a toilet, that's not hard to do.
I won't ever donate to this project unless they show real gameplay footage. That's all that truly matters.
they dont need ur donations so dont fret😊
define "real gameplay footage". You mean the part that's being developed as we speak?
Character creation and build mode are pretty much done, and now they're heavily working on live mode
You dont have to. Who personally asked you to give money?
I never saw paralives as a scam or a way to get money from avid the sims fans. I see paralives as a genuine passion project led by honest people who just want to bring us an enjoyable experience. Having to wait is the least of my worries, since the more time paralives' team takes, the hopefully higher quality product we get 🤗
Paralives has a lof of pressure, since people knew it was a thing they've been comparing it with The Sims and a lot of simmers that lots enthusiasm because of the sims 4 are hoping a lot of Paralives.
I kinda get the reservations, just look at Yanderedev and his trashfire, but the difference between them was one guy relying on free stuff while he left to play on Twitch all day, Paralives had them actually working and even add other things like babies and skill animations, way more than the 8 years and no Hossana thing and just making a bunch of Easter Eggs of dated memes, I'm pumped but I can't wait for it either, I really wanna make short people
I'll change my tune when they complain about those dang emails and take a millennium before adding a rain cycle
I just got this video recommended by the algorythm and noticed this is a small creator. I just subscribed. Your videos are good, I love the sims.
They have been extremeiy transparent, which I think is quite respectable.
Coding in itself is really hard, the same people complaining couldn't even sit and try to create a game.
Girl, it's been five years.
I think people are definitely underestimating the amount of man hours and money that it takes to make a game like this work 😬 I’m not 100% blaming the fans, it is the game designers job to communicate clearly too (about their timeline); but I get that since they’re doing something with such a little team that is unprecedented they might not know exactly when the release date is yet either:)
I haven’t been watching for the updates for a while now:) but that footage you attached is amazing!!!

On the patreon we get weekley updates. I wont say more than that, but its looking great!
E.g hey we wanna put a need system in the game, well what should it look like? what should the needs be? how quickly do they decay? etc etc
Even with a feature decided, how to actually create it, how to make it look and work is a completely different step. And that's not to mention only some memebers can help with certain things, they all can guve their opinuons and ideas, but not all of then can code, not all of them can animate, or create music for the game either.
there's no way in hell the game would have been done by now even if they were working as efficiently as possible because, like i said previously, not all of the 12 members have the same skills like if only 3 of them can actually code ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
and again, started off with one guy who does not have the skills to make an entire life sim (that's actually good), 1 guy even if working his best is not going to get as far as 11 people on a team.
I will wait 20 years for this game and you know what, I bet it will be better than anything EA shells out with the Sims.
in 20 years EA will release 3 more sims games and you probably will die of old age.
really don't understand how people can think that since they get money via patreon than everything should come out in few months; i don't understand anything about software development, but considering how the team has grown in few years and how just a pre-alpha looks better than any sims i've ever played this project is Outstanding! hope they take their time, cause this can be a beautiful indie gem like kerbal
I'd wait 10 years tbh
so it's been years and they haven't found any investors who can help them accelerate? strange
they didn't want an investor thats why. alex said it.
The real problem is that yall only want them to usurp The Sims...instead of just letting them exist.
im honestly really excited for paralives. just today they posted on twitter how their apples used to be square (ik not as exciting) and it just got me so hype. i LOVE the development of this game and i wish they take as long as they need.
I still want them to make the square apples like a special thing in game lol
that is honestly such a cute idea!!@@tisvana18
I admit i find it fun to look at their videos of their wip for the game.
At least they have not started sending death threats to the studio yet which unfortunately isn't uncommon when "fans" get involved with game developers.
no one asked sims4 buddy don't spread lies
They should have crowdfunded a budget and then stopped raising funds. At the moment they make so much money through crowdfunding that it probably isn’t profitable for them to release the game.
People just love crying lmao, they've released multiple clips of gameplay, I'm glad they're taking their time
Why not show paralives footage throughout? It’s misleading for people who don’t recognize that this is the Sims you’re showing.
EA and the Maxis Sims team literally delivered a less than half completed game after 5 years of development when Sims 4 was released. If I want a completed game, I am NOT going to ask a team that only recently grew to 10 people to do what a full team with hundreds of thousands at their disposal couldn’t deliver on the same timeline
im happy they work hard on make the game work and be fun!
The Paralives team has done things the way that they have because they don't have a company over their heads signing their paychecks. They started putting out teasers and updates in the hopes that excited gamers would keep them fed until the game is done. The end result is that we'll end up with a great game built with love and consideration for what it's players actually want.
Some of the sims players are ignorant and somewhat toxic. They have no logic and proper judgement
"Sims is a complex game and needs lots of time"
... well, is it? None of the Sims parts needed especially long development time iirc, compared to other games of their era.
"We plan to put so many features into the basegame, that takes lomg"
... well, 1. why do you think that feature creep is a good thing and 2. surely this means you are working on these features since a few years already?
... yes, this was exaggerated, but i do not see an obvious reason to take so long.
1. Hasn’t even surpassed 5 years so let’s wait before you can say that
Some people don't know how much time making a video game takes, especially with a smaller team. They don't make them in one night... smh. 🤦♂
It looks so good ! Hopefully they make a vr 1st person option available
seriously?
the gamers' literal 0 understanding of game development never seizes to amaze me.
it literally takes top industry corporations 3-4 or more years to develop a F2P game in its most basic form (with lots of updates yet to follow), e.g.
Theres thousands of other games i can play in the meanwhile
well u waited 5 years already so be exited for the 2030 release
I still have the tweet that I message Alex back in 2019 that please don’t rush the game and have fun with it! And he give me a three smiling emojis!
it's means you will wait until 2030
@@FeRoOOo71 GTA 5 was released 10 years ago. What this means? It means the company waited that long to make a complete and good game unlike EA who release right away and literally no content. You want that? It that your standard? And Mike York, who worked on GTA 5 and RDR2, said: “Focusing on what sells, and the large amount of meticulous and hard work that goes into PC versions of games.”
The footage being shown is Sims though I’m pretty sure. The infant toy thing, the rug I use in every room, the candle…
Fyi LBY started in 2019, the same year as Paralives
I think they made a mistake by starting to share way too early. People who are excited are going to get lost along the way. They should have created in a more autonomous way and ask for suggestions more towards the end.
I disagree tbh, I don’t think that would’ve changed anything. It’s a better feeling to follow the game along the way, anyways. Transparency is good
People need to stop rushing things…WAIT 😡
People are too impatient. We've seen what happens when a large studio cranks out a game in a year. They deliver junk that's broken, unfinished, and not worth the price they charge. Transformers the Movie (the 80's animated one) took 4 years for a major animation studio to create. The wait was worth it. Not everything should be rushed to the public.
I don't know what these people expect. Their team is not big at all, yet they've made it this far. I'm proud of them and want them to take the time they need to release a good game
"With a bit of research and a sprinkle of common sense.."😂
People need to remember that only 10 people work on paralives, and hopefully they do not want to rush the game
YOU NEVER LOVED ME ANYWAY!"
No, that's just a surface reaction, there are layers upon layers.
I so want to play paralives. I'm waiting patiently for paralives to come. I don't mind it takes longer, that way you know that most bugs will be fixed and that they take time to make the game good.
