I wish ghosts needs were not just renamed normal sim traits. They could have had more unique ghosty needs like 'Remembrance' they need Sims to remember them or they will have their second 'death' when they become forgotten. Mermaids don't have a great reputation but even they had 'Hydration' to replace Hyginene and it did work a bit different
Vampires don’t have needs like a normal human so it’s not even like they don’t understand the logic behind this, I love your ideas. Hopefully there is an update or a mod that fixes this because it just seems like yet again oversight
@@honinakecheta601I think the problem here might be that ghosts are basegame, so they can't have entirely different mechanics with and without the pack 😢 All the other occults are pack related so they can be whatever
@@AliceDjinger see, I would buy that but they gave us the big ahh update that broke my mods but they couldn’t change the core mechanics of the ghosts to be more immersive lol I lost like 5 gigabytes worth of mods and had to start over, but my ghosts need to pee, sleep and eat…
@honinakecheta601 well, that's honestly an unfair complaint. It's not their intention to break the game, it's just the fact that the code base changed. Any update would break the mods, unfortunately that's how games work.
@ I’m guessing that was included with the reapers reward? Ugh! They need to update the game allowing us to choose the location of tattoos and if possible layer similar to sims 3 plus they need to update the two tone hair styles and allow us to choose both colors! The sims team talks about creative freedom but they limit us by the lack of proper features that should already be included in base game. We as players wouldn’t have so many complaints if they created the sims 4 with the player in mind not the damn check!
Knowing EA, they’ll probably release a Game, Stuff or Kit pack in 3 months so they can make even more money off of something that should have already been included, let’s be real.
I love the sims, I really do and I’ve been playing the games since I was a kid, like most of us. But EA has really leaned into being the Scrooge of game developers while lying to our faces that they care about us and it’s just… exhausting at this point. I only buy packs During sales because they genuinely are never worth what they want for them. I live in Canada and those packs are each $60 after taxes. It makes me sad because I was REALLY excited for this pack because I miss Midnight Hollow so f*cking much.
EA should just spend six months on a free update to fix all the bugs, improve pack synergy and add basic quality of life features. Why is Archeology a skill you only use in Jungle Adventure? Why can't I still name or feed my pet frog? Why have so many systems that overlap, but not work together? Why do some rabbit holes have pictures, but se still don't? Where is my Mermaid skill tree? Why aren't restaurants in the base game?
They'd probably need a full year. Because some things would need to be completely overhauled, and playtested, and overhauled again. But yeah. Agreed. I've been wanting them to make gameplay features part of basegame but leaving the packs for sale. it feels like a compromise that might work except for the fact that EA ruins everything.
They should add mood buffs when your Sim gets drunk too (I think sims 2 had it, and it was so funny) or why cant get my sims the sickness you see at the hospital and go to the hospital when they are sick? You can get your Baby there.
We probably will not get mermaids or aliens fixed as they're not base game. Doing the Ghosts this way means those who hate occults with a passion can just skip over this pack like they do with all the other occults. I'd love them getting skill trees or just another world/special lots or something just for them but they were put in when the loudest simmer were realism players meaning they were token occults to tied us over. I'll toss unicorns & servos under that bus too - they're shoved in the pack in such a way to not inconvenience realism players and for once we finally got a EP of occults and it's better than all the realism packs for once. Is it perfect? No. I've encountered some pretty frustrating bugs involving managing households in the few days I've been playing. But most of the stuff I was worried would need iorning out like reincarnation and the bucket list (Something people have nagged for since sims 2) as they ovehaul some of the UI ect are surprisingly solid. The stuff isn't in your face and feels a little less like a background feature unlike Growing Together which is all background features.... and there's more to do and interact with than Love Struck that's main draw is the dating app and date tweeks. Could it be better? Of course. But I'm happy so far that the biggest draw mechanics of this pack are functional and do indeed change how gameplay works while being fully intergrated unlike being just a side grade/add on you might touch once or twice. While my hopes aren't up for fairies & zombies (zombies less so due to strangerville's possesed bring zombie like) being fantastic packs at least seeing how they have made Ghosts more interesting, made vampires & werewolves more compelling (and chaotic) my hopes for a fun pack for fairies is slightly higher than it would be if we do get them and hopes that Island living & Get to work get refreshes & those refreshes bring something good for Mermaids & Aliens. 🤞 if not and this is the only occult EP we get and the rest are GPs then well I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.
Restaurants are so buggy, if they added that to the base game I may cry. I don’t actually pay for all the packs, shhh, so I get to ‘un’download things I don’t like or break my game. I didn’t even try with my wedding stories. Eating Out was legit always so difficult to control, my sims would never listen and when they DID the game would soon freeze afterwards.
No EP for The Sims 4 is worth 40$. That's why they are so many sales, this is a marketing tactic. Make the "official" price higher, when really the discounted one is the default.
Exactly. As someone who had a father who knew how to get the price he wanted out of items, this is EXACTLY what he taught me to do. You post something online for half to 2/3rds more than the price you want, someone low balls around the price you're asking for, and boom. you've made what you want and they think it's a good deal. This is the same deal, with a tweak, they are saying it's $40, but then giving you the option to buy multiple things with it for $40 instead which makes it look more appealing. IMO, that's really predatory of companies to do. Individual people I can kinda give some pass too, there are people out there that will ask for a 1,000 dollar PC for 50. But in this case, when EA is purposefully making dlc purchased individually cost 1,000+ only to give us bundles to make it "cheaper" so we still overspend on dlc that is mediocre at best. And for a game that needs work in hundreds of other places, it's kinda ass that they only prefer to work on what they want while still force feeding us dlc..
It's higher than the price of most video games (other than the big name ones) and 2/3 the price of big name games, while being only 5% extra game for the sims if anything. I think the sims fans have become numb and don't realise what a crazy price it is in the whole video game market
I mean an Indie dev once revealed that their game saw more consistent sales than AAA titles precisely because it had a reasonable price. So EA should probably step off with that “marketing tactic”
I love your super honest review of this pack. Thank you for having the heart to say what you said about consumers being blamed for not being happy with packs or lack of gameplay or anything else we might not like.
I'm happy there are other people who aren't feeding into the "It's your fault for buying it or supporting the game" because it's not our fault. Companies use predatory tactics to make things seem more appealing to consumers all the time and it's somehow become a normal thing in our society... I hate it...
but I mean it is player’s responsibility not to buy something and support a predatory model… if they keep buying it then they are just adding to the problem
Both agree and disagree on one hand doing task after task is just what we’ve seen for the sims it’s what to expect, on the other hand I was expecting way more for the ghosts esp for $40. Good old EA charging us ridiculous amounts for things that should’ve been originally included.
@@insertchannel666 It is players fault as well. After the first few year you could already see the worth of expansion packs wasn't worth the asking price. Then every since year it's the same thing and there has never been a pack with the actual asking price. Like be fr. The people who also pre-order and then get surprised when it's a bugging mess and doesn't work. At least buy it on sale if you are gonna buy it. Some people are just delulu when it comes to the sims
A full fledged sims 4 experience costs over 1000 dollars (if you get all the packs) and still doesnt feel any fun most of the time is just sad. Its honestly more worth just pirating the game and fill it with mods than spending money on EA. If we should make one thing justifeable when it comes to games its definetly the sims 4
@ works too though I must admit the sims 4 packs have some nice worlds. The three worlds from the base game get boring quickly in my opinion but paying 40 dollars or more on a world is also a bit meh
@@elizard4850 given the base game is free, I'm continually surprised when a significant part of a new pack will be a base game update. The base game is only "bare bones" if you're used to what all the packs add. It's perfectly playable and ad-free, which is good for something that is free. Just look at the state of some free mobile games for comparison.
okay here’s where we have the problem: “why do simmers repeatedly buy broken or low quality packs?” as FGG says, this pack has some of the best build/buy we’ve ever seen. it also contains a lot of gothic and victorian stuff, a pretty big niche within the sims community. these items and worlds will be used by youtubers, and viewers will want to download their builds that contains these items, without having to replace every item; modders will use the meshes and gameplay of objects to creat CC that requires the pack to function. add on general FOMO, and the fact that a lot of really good community-requested features are usually shoved into these packs (thinking For Rent bringing us townhouses, Growing Together bringing kids bikes), simmers always end up buying for one reason or another. i gave up buying packs years ago and was playing base game on console. desperately wanting to play any life sim, i made a victorian save. you can see where this is going. BG is dogshite, and even my imagination was struggling with the clothes, mostly. so i bought vampires on sale, for the victorian clothing, with the plus of being able to make my vampire oc. i barely ever play vampires 💀 it went downhill from there and now i can see myself buying this pack when it goes on sale, just bc of the great CAS and BB. it sucks really but it’s either pay or don’t play. i mean even the early purchase incentives… a working music box?? i would love that. no wonder fomo takes over, we’re so deprived of simple features that we clamber at anything.
I said this the other day, i really think EA should be SO GRATEFUL for the invention of social media and all the sims youtubers because im convinced THEY are 90% of the reason they still get any sales. Sometimes the ONLY thing that drives me to buy a pack is seeing builders on youtube use the items over and over. If i didnt see them use the items all the time, i wouldnt feel like i need to have them myself. This is mostly a problem with kits, i never wanted to support kits, but builders use kits like crazy and it shows me what im missing out on so i end up having to get them just because i want like two items in the pack (im looking at you blooming rooms 😑) I also had 0 interest in lovestruck but i bought it at full price because as soon as i saw builders using the items, i had to have them. And guess what i actually think lovestruck is an annoying edition to my game! My sims is always autonomously flirting with her husbands parents because she finds them attractive! So i rly did buy it JUST for the build/buy/CAS!!!!
This is why it’s totally justified to sail the high seas for sims packs, if you catch my drift. I like pretty things. I also like getting particularly good… sales on those things, so to speak…
@@psychoPilgrim36 it's funny because I'm the reverse. I watch channels so I don't have to pay. Also, I found creators in an attempt to figure out which pack would be right for me, ultimately, none of them because all creators (even lil simsie) brings up their grievances with the game, and that snaps me out of it. So, I only own the free packs from when jungle adventure was free and forward. The rest of my frustration goes into waiting for paralives.
I haven't paid for any expansion pack ever. I use an unlocker bc it's ridiculous to have to keep paying for stuff like this. Thank you for being SO real and honest! 🙌
Thank you, that you both complemented and criticised the pack, I have been trying so hard not to purchase it becuase I really love the CAS and Build & Buy stuff But I already spent enough on a game that barely works and you helped me confirm my decision
usually when a sims youtuber says “furious” they’re talking about something minor or it’s clickbait. something tells me this won’t be the case this time but somehow i hope it is. oh edit after watching: damn it’s trash

@@neville2308 the BB and CAS are good, i agree. i however personally don’t like running back and forth between loading screens to essentially get what could be done with a shift click and “make happy” cheat.
@@cryingwatercoloursany life sims you recommend for people who like ts2's personality and raunchiness and ts3's world? Mostly the personality thing. 4 feels so bland it loses me almost immediately, no matter how many packs i jam into it.
You’re appreciated FGG and your honesty is always admired. That said, either a large portion of the player base is senile and forgetful or EA has been using that memory eraser from Men In Black because baby, EA’s track record very poorly speaks for itself…lol. Not surprised in the least.
EA does suck but as someone who’s been playing with this pack for days, this pack is amazing. It’s really good. Though I’m a macabre person myself so if you don’t like goth vibes it may not be for you. But…it’s super fun and works well. The new reaper career is a blast and I love the world. I am really mad there’s no snow though. Like that ticks me off.
@@neville2308 This isn't the point, and you negated it entirely to feed into the kind of behavior EA wants. They want us to put the game over price and quality, but because some of it is a higher quality doesn't mean that the quality = price. The size ≠ price, just the same as how quality ≠ price either. Don't get me wrong, I ADORE the gothic vibes and such, but EA has done a lot of sketchy things with this pack and in the past. One of which removing the ability to woohoo grim without mods and jumping through hoops, just to give it to us later on associated with dlc. There are also other things that should be associated with base game or other packs that they refuse to do because they want as much money as they can get from it completely at our expense.
@@insertchannel666I'm sorry but some of us genuinely are enjoying this pack. Personally all of the occult themed packs (strangerville included) are the best gameplay you'll get in the damn game. I'm sorry but anyone saying growing together is better than this should have a rethink, because unlike that pack which was all background features & infants that were base game update btw, the bucket list, updated ghost features & rebirth mechanics of this pack are really beautifully intergrated into natural gameplay progression over the course of you sims life. Sure, it's not perfect, I have encountered my fair share of bugs but none of which involves this gameplay system change which I can't say for some previous expansions we've had especially ones people claim are 'must haves' like university & highschool where all your sim does is study with the occasional side activity. Plus the bucketlist is something people have practically NAGGED for since sims 2. To intergrate it into a sims soul journey is just a very nice way to put it in rather than making it a checklist with no benefits or incentives for doing it. Plus, if you have other packs you have more things that can be on that bucket list from them you might not have had a sim do yet, especially some of the more harder ones. While I may not personally like certain packs I know others who think they're the bee's knees and actually find them enjoyable. I'm also not going to tell them they're playing a sandbox game wrong either - it's personal preference. But I'll be damned is laundry, cleaning & watching sims study for hours of playtime is considered better gameplay😅 I'd rather this pack personally as an Occult player.
I actually really like the new pack, the build mode items are very cool, the CAS aesthetic is right up my alley and im actually having fun with the grim reaper career
@@xxcameliacould you give some examples? I really only played Sims 3 extensively, and aside from some light puzzle solving in world adventures I can’t really think of much in that game that wouldn’t also qualify as “Do the Task”. I never played 2 and remember very little of 1 since I played it so young, so there’s a lot I could be missing for sure.
3:37 so I haven't seen this around a lot but this weeping mother Alice reminds me of La llorona legend. A mother who lost her kids and cries looking for them basically.
Same, I honestly can’t imagine paying 40 bucks for this let alone multiple packs. Thinking about it makes me nauseous, that’s A LOT of money for mediocrity and boring packs. Even this pack bored me and it’s arguably better than most others. But that’s like comparing something average (this pack) with something awful (previous broken packs). Everything just feels less egregious when there isn’t a price tag attached, I feel bad for people who keep buying this stuff and deluding themselves into believing their empty bank accounts are worth it.
@Bridenbrad Well I don't live in the USA. Where I'm from most people pirate things because we can't purchase a lot of games because of sanctions and stuff (the sanctions are well deserved against my country I completely understand why they were created) And how can you tell maybe I'm talking about how much I like to dress up as a pirate lol
I like the pack. I hate the circumstances surrounding its existence. It could have been its own damn game if Maxis was given the time, budget, and resources to make it more than what it was. I can confidently say not one Sims pack is worth its asking price, certainly not Sims 4 packs. EA shows no signs of respecting its consumers, so I feel the only thing that will change the course of The Sims is a complete and total splintering of Maxis' people from EA.
To be honest, I don't think that "reskins" are bad. The game should be consistent. Look how they tried to give us a whole new social app in different packs and how annoying that is...
The lack of continuity is something that bugs me so much! If theyre gonna introduce a game mechanic they need to ensure it works with existing ones 💁♀️ Your example of SM within the game is on point! So frustrating. Agree with reskins too, even on build/buy, im desperate for reskins of BG items like elements display or corkboard (Plumbella doing the lords work with hers, but that only really suits the style of her pack) i want a cosmolux corkboard or a Queen anne style Elements display 😂💁♀️
not mad about this, but i think in terms of social media, they should have just made ONE and expanded upon it with each pack imo if they really wanted to do more
@@AstronomicalJellyExactly. It's not a reskin. It's a UI that is in the game that they add new options to. Its actually optimal end user experience coding to use the same UI and just change the available options based on selected criteria. The criteria in the case is the event you're doing. If the team set up totally different user experiences based on the event you want to throw, people would bitch about how everything is different and nothing is consistent. So they use the same UI, to keep it consistent, and now we're complaining? Don't get me wrong, they've done PLENTY of reskinning objects and CAS items in the past and deserve the call outs and questions on that. But using the same UI for optimal end user experience is not the thing to be complaining about.
I would like to point out that you erroneously said that Seasons doesn't work. It does. Snow is just not a part of the world. It definitely still rains, the temperatures still shift and change.
Yup. It's not the only world that doesn't get snow either. Honestly snow would clash visually in the morningvale neighbourhood with the baleful bog & all the roaming ghosts when they're all white & that light blue. As someone with visual issues i appreciate they took that into account.
Get The Sims 4 Life & Death Expansion Pack (and every other pack for this game actually) at the great world wide web library for free and you are set. That's it.
I love what i see in this pack, but it's not worth 40 bucks. Like i'm not made out of money and it hurts to see it's made with love, but i'm not going to cut out a rib again out of my body to get it.
I actually really enjoyed the pack. I haven’t enjoyed an expansion pack as much as I enjoyed Get Together in ages, and this got close. HOWEVER. I wanted snow :( also none of the expansion packs should be 45 pounds. It’s extortionate.
This pack was given to me as a gift last night, and I like it a lot. I ignore most of the tasks as I do normally, but I see where you are coming from. Quests don't count as content anymore, and I agree with that.
@@neville2308how? For $40 dollars I could do to steam and buy BG3 at discount, and that's an award winning game with thousands of hours of content, or wait until the sale ends and give up an extra ten. They are charging the price of a high end game for a DLC with barely a few hours of content
Girlie I don't mean to spread illegal ideas on your channel but, let's face it, if EA is still stealing from simmers is because simmers haven't learned to pirate games (or they're unwilling to learn because "it's not the devs fault" or whatever). The means to actively try the packs before spending money exists, and if more people started doing so, I don't think EA would be able to continue doing this kind of stuff
I enjoyed it the first playthrough and then thought, "That's it?" That said, I think legacy players will enjoy it. I tend to be a single sim player and as such feel as though it's not marketed to my style unless I keep having my sim be reborn into other families. I agree with you about the world being amazing, though.
i appreciate this review so much. i still want the pack but this review reminded me that in no way in hell and hades will i fork over 40 entire doll hairs for it
Playing devil’s advocate vis a vis the gameplay - what would the gameplay involve if NOT tasks? The Sims by nature is task based, so it doesn’t surprise me that the pack has that kind of gameplay, and I genuinely can’t think of another way they could have done it.
I think the problem with sims 4 is that everything has a list to complete, there's no exploring like in sims 3 world adventures. It always feels very limited
I think the issue with task-based gameplay in the Sims 4 is that it's not OPEN WORLD. So if you have to go places, it's loading screen after loading screen (which with mods can take up to 5-10 minutes), and nothing is exciting about it. You just see your sim going around completing things and it doesn't feel super immersive, because you're not really involved, you just tell them where to go. You do a lot while simultaneously doing nothing.
The previous Sims games weren't so task focused. You could set up parties, dates, and events how you want and get to just enjoy the experience. Now, there's a task for everything and a countdown clock to get everything before time's up to get rewards.
Well, Gameplay should just also consist of more meaningful interactions, logical reactions from the interactions, more interactable objects and more interesting and funny consequences from the things our Sim does. That is what the Sims 4 desperately needs.
Of course everyone who just spent $40 is going to keep the rose colored glasses on for as long as possible. In a week they will have buyers remorse and be complaining about new bugs.
It's so interesting, because one of my fav games of the franchise is Sims Medieval and it's pretty different from any main game. There you basically also have to complete daily tasks and do quests. But it's fun and unique, the tasks are very different depending on type of character you are playing and quests are much more rewarding. It doesn't feel like a chore just for the sake of making the player busy. So the idea of making a player complete tasks isn't novel to this franchise by any means, but here and in other sims 4 packs all of it just sounds extremely tedious. edit: oh yeah, and this game is open world just like sims 3, so not having to wait 8 billion loading screens and being able to roam the world freely definitely helps.
The Sims Medieval was built via The Sims 3 engine so the games are pretty much one in the same but I can understand why the game was not sold as a DLC due to how different it is
@@ejfiewfeuihefwiuwe it's similar to sims castaway built on sims 2 engine, the engine is the same, but it's way too different from the main game. Honestly, i loved that, maybe instead of piling up dlcs on top of sims 4 they could've made separate smaller story packed games and go absolutely crazy with the concepts? I know they aren't going to, because that's not what the majority of the audience want/that'd take too much effort, but lemme dream.
@@kashiomi_art I would like more story focused games I think it would be better then DLC in that regard but I know it is not something that will happen ever again EA knows that The Sims 4 at the moment is amongst their biggest cash cows and they will milk that cash cow until the amount of DLC piles up to be an amount so impossible for any PC to handle that the game just explodes upon launching
i am probably still going to get it juuuuuuuust for the aesthetics, but i 100% wanted to hear, specifically, your review so i knew what i was getting into! it definitely helped to quell my "I NEED TO PREORDER/GET IT ASAP!!!" urge, at least, and i will be waiting a couple weeks before i go for it.
I like this pack and bought it on a discount but I agree on everything ESPECIALLY the ghosts having needs. You are dead, why are you hungry? What do you need to sleep for? HOW are you even showering??
You the only simmer I actually listen when it comes to pack recommends. EA is just so money grubbing evil at this point. It feels like getting so little as a sim player.
At this point? They've been awful for more than ten years. Microtransactions for loot boxes (gambling) in their sports franchises that are released annually. Not to mention what they did to my poor Mass Effect (and Dragon Age.) Not intending to have this come across as criticism of you - my goal is simply to point out they've been awful for too long.
My takeaway is that the last basegame update and this pack do NOT seem to break the game. So this is definitely the very bestest sooperdooper shpadoinkle pack in a very, very long time. So if they would fix the gamebreaking issues that came with the date pack I would sure sure love to politely ask them to shut up and take my money.
i stupidly purchased this pack while stoned (i thought i could return it, don't ask) and EVEN WHILE GREENED OUT i couldn't play more than an hour. this review is exactly how i feel dude
I 100% agreed with you on pretty much every point you made. Time to retire sims 4 and start fresh with a different installment so they can start over and do it right - doubtful but still hopeful.
I'm in love with this world, though. It has given me a place for my kooky all occult family to go. And it's permanent autumn weather, which is also delightful.
This is what I feared. Tasks on tasks on tasks (which the game does not do well despite how often they force this mechanic on us). The reaper rewards challenge was such a pain and unfortunately "pretty but problematic" has become the new norm for sims packs. I also hate the "buy by x date to get these meaningful items included in the pack." It's just a ploy to get folks to download the game before it's discounted which is really messed up and a slap in the face for us players who have been supporting the franchise from the beginning. As always, thank you FGG for another entertaining and honest review.
Tasks are literally the point of The Sims as a whole lol. I play the game to do these silly mindless tasks. I like it a lot more than I thought I would.
Thank you, I was feeling insane listening to everyone else's videos. I couldn't believe people were being so blandly positive. I've been desperately waiting for someone to say this!! Edit: I just got to the bit when you said the game was *only 2GB* and my jaw dropped. The absolute GALL is ASTONISHING! 🤮
Omg I was feeling the same way! I was thinking maybe my standards are just too high or maybe I’m too creative but listening to FGG say what I’ve been thinking made me smile.
Wait, 40 dollars? Guys. You're supposed to get this for free. You know the whole game costs upwards of $1,000, right? Can't we be smart about this and say that maaaaaybe in this instance, freebooting is okay?
Must say I definitely recommend playing the whole game with all dlc without spending a penny. Playing the game without having buyers regret makes it quite worth it
I was a follower of your channel from the beginning and I'M SO FUCKING HAPPY that you haven't changed at all. You're still you. And being a sims channel hasn't changed that. We need more honest reviews like this.
I haven’t seen you in my feed in a while, and now you’re showing up! I really like your channel and coverage of the Sims! Thanks for the awesome content!
I completely agree with this (and I'm someone who loves old sims games that are task driven, the more "recent" being sims medieval, but you don't have to sit through two minutes long loading screens to move around. -and I also get tired of Medieval because it can be repetitive, but when I do play it I don't feel as assaulted as with TS4)
honestly i was surprised you dont like it, cause of the gothic and stuff cause i know how much you love that, i love it tbh, at first i was yeah its worth 40 bucks, but then you said about rdr and it broke my heart lol, damn i adore that game
Thank you! I've been debating on buying the pack, but your review made me save my money for something else that brings me *actual* joy - fountain pens.
Let's be real tho, this is probably the best Expansion Pack we ever had in the whole Sims 4,, let's point out some of the features: It added a Ghost Skill Tree (Meaning more powers) It added 1 Active Career and 1 Inactive Career It added a few interactive options to world (the rabbit holes) and of festivals similar to San Myshuno It added rebirth! which is the first time ever in a Sims game It added heritages and heirlooms which correct me if I'm wrong but it's also the first time ever in a Sims game? It added funerals which is also the first time ever in a Sims game It upgraded the mourning system moodlets, not only for deaths but also for losing a job, losing a romantic partner and a long date friend It added tarot with a very fun gameplay to find the cards (Tarot from BB is different, it has less options) Reintroduced Cemeteries (Which is kinda... meh... since they were always base game tho) Gave us Ghosts Quests around the World (LORE) and much more It costed 40,00 Dollars/Euros? YES... do you need to pay that? NO! How wisely you spend your money is all on you, nowadays there's a ton of 3rd party websites that sell the exact same games for cheaper prices even when Sims Packs are on Sale in EA App, Instant Gaming is a excelent example. Prices nowadays are very easily ignored.
Yes true I agree with you this is in fact the best pack I ever seen in Sims 4 so far, I came back to Sims 4 JUST because of this pack specifically, I like FakeGamerGirl a lot, she is sincere and honest about everything in Sims 4, she's not woke and speaks what she thinks, but I felt like she was hating this pack quite a bit just because of the price tag which I agree with you, it's ignorable, I didn't knew about Instant Gaming I mostly buy my games on Eneba or G2A, but I've seen Instant Gaming has a lot of cheaper games too, thank you for the recomendation! I don't mind the packs being 40 dollars 20 dollars or 10 dollars, I never pay that. Also, FakeGamerGirl mentioned Veilguard which is super expensive, but Veilguard is pure trash and woke, it's terrible
They should make mega packs with groupes DLCs but for the price of a single DLC like TS2 did sometimes. Like old packs should be either free or extra cheap and grouped together. Insane.
I honestly can strongly disagree! I think that this is a fantastic pack, and it gives you actual goals which a lot of people really enjoy. I honestly love this pack and think it's the best one yet! This is obviously my own opinion.
I am loving it as well. It’s one of my new favorites. I feel like I got my moneys worth. The ghost powers are fun as hell, the items and cas are amazing, the reaper career is so fun, funerals actually work well, the world is fun. I am mad there is no snow but I’m over it by now. This is one of my new favorite packs along with city living and cottage living and seasons and parenthood. Like this one slaps. But im a goth type chick so maybe people who aren’t goth or alternative in their vibe may not like it as much as I do but I am addicted and can’t stop playing it. Idk why everyone’s hating. The fun factor is so high for me. And I usually don’t even like occults. I like realistic gameplay. But the ghost stuff is really fun.
is the pack worth 40 dollars? no, but none of the packs are worth the amount they cost. I do however have sm fun with it and I also think it's one of the best packs out there! Also, as someone who loves anything supernatural the world is a dream come true
@@neville2308 so, im really curious about the no snow thing. If you use the weather machine thingy from seasons to change the weather and make it snow, does it work? Or does it not allow you to use that object for snow in that world specifically?
im sorry but this is by FAR the best pack for TS4. great cas, great bb, great gameplay and amazing, game-changing new features, INCREDIBLE lore and world-building, minimal bugs (in my own experience, and actually i do not think i have encountered a SINGLE bug since downloading the preorder). i think there are things they could have done to take this pack further, but with the state its already in, im happy and in my opinion, this might be the ONLY pack worth $40 in TS4.
Oh I wholeheartedly disagree on the point of fun: I've been playing this pack non-stop, I love hunting down the tarot cards and the grim career is so fun too. More fun than seasons (which I regret buying because it is annoying) and the other supernatural packs. Like yeah, room for improvement, but overall I think this is the best pack released so far.
Im happy with the pack, but I also do very little actual gameplay in the sims most of the time, most of what I do is cas and build mode. I don't really think any pack is worth $40, but i um physically unable to stop myself from acquiring any and all supernatural themed pack so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That's fair... waaaait... this entire game is a task simulator! The fun is in the details tho. Also, where I live, $40 is, like, 1 lunch :( ...so, if this pack adds a lunch's worth of enjoyment, it's technically worth it... yay?
I agree with some sentiments here but I think the pack just isn't for you. I been on the "EA are lazy scammers" train for as long as I can remember, and I agree with pretty much every critique SatchOnSims has (he gives almost all the packs extremely low scores) but this one he gave a high score, a first in a LONG time. It's the first pack that actually has me playing through a pack fully and not just picking small things from the pack that I'll MAYBE stick with down the line.
My own experience: this is the only sims 4 pack I ever pre-ordered and the only sims 4 pack I bought while it wasn't on sale, I have zero regrets. I've only played the sims 4 for about three days after downloading the pack, and it's the most fun I remember having with the game in a while. The macabre trait is my #1 favourite trait in the entirety of the sims 4, it feels like a trait I'd actually have and I love the new pose sims do with it! I had my sim join the reaper career and so far it's been a lot of fun (especially since I got to flirt and make out with Grim after I completed all the work for the day.) The greatest part for me that I'll never forget was when it was near the end of my sim's shift, Grim started fucking him in the shower, and as soon as they were done, the shift ended and he got a promotion XD that memory will never leave me! So far, I've only scratched the surface of everything this pack has to offer and I already feel satisfied with it. I haven't even played with a ghost sim yet, I haven't gone through the rebirth process yet, I've barely done anything with the tarot cards yet, I haven't done anything related to Alice yet, and so on. There's still so much more for me to do regarding this pack that I'm not gonna get to for a while because I'm not speedrunning it, I'm taking my time and enjoying this pack to the fullest. All I know is that I can't remember the last time I felt so happy, but that's just me. Also, the pet crow is absolute baby and I love it so much!!!!!! Honestly, I think the only thing I'm disappointed about is that I can't combine a wedding and a funeral event :( I want my sims to get married while there's a dead body at the venue people are crying over a the same time. Oh well, maybe someone will make a mod for it! (Typing this out, the funniest shit just came to mind. What if someone was marrying a ghost sim who recently died so they held the wedding and funeral at the same time and the ghost sim who is technically "walking down the isle" is their body in a casket with other people carrying it like the coffin dance meme XD)
Maybe you can make a wedding venue featuring a casket/grave? Have your ghost sims' urn on a pedestal next to the arch, something like that ? If there's an open casket in bb, maybe add that ? (There's a festival where they can try it on I think -don't own the pack here - so maybe having someone trying the coffin while the others are getting married ? Maybe even a clone of your sim)
@Chella972 I'm actually surprised I haven't thought of this considering I once had two vampire sims get married and had them woohoo in a casket at the venue while everyone else meditated around it (cursed, I know XD) I definitely want to try this, thanks!
I’m butt hurt there’s no snow. I wanted a narnia or Edward Scissorhands vibe with the snow. But other than the no snow, I’m really loving this pack. This is one of my favorites along with seasons, city living, and cottage living.
I just got paid and was so ready to grab this (im literally looking at it in my basket) but now im like fine ill wait for a sale, im only paying so much for disappointment! 😥
Oh- I KNEW the funerals wouldn't work. My Wedding Stories destroyed the foundation of how large events function, I want to say I'm disappointed, but I expected it, so I'm just simply not surprised. And this pack just being a giant set of task lists is infuriating. Seeing all this, I'm so glad I no longer buy at full price, and purchase for cheaper elsewhere. I love the style and aesthetics of the pack, but that's as far as my praise goes. I was excited for your review because you're always honest and hilarious about it. Thank you so much.
@@zachsanchester9441they do. Just don't overload what you want your sims to do at them. Part of wedding stories issues stem from giving sims too many things to do/interact with on a lot (that's before you hit the bugs list)
They aren't making the Sims 5 because they don't want us to lose our games? Who the eff are they kidding? Every time they add a new pack it's makes any of my old saved games almost impossible to play. I have a year old save that became so laggy I had to give up on it and start a New Save. Why? Idk. I was only playing in 1 world in that save, so it's not like it was cluttered up w builds and sims to make it run slow. When I think about all those Save Files people have put hundreds of hours into it makes me sad. Idk how anybody could actually play in them, cuz if the game starts to Lag, I stop playing!!
I'd never heard that excuse before this video and it's laughable. Did that not happen with Sims, Sims 2 & Sims 3? People are still happily playing those as well to this day.
My issue with this pack (and nearly every other pack) is there isn’t anything hidden really, they show everything initially to hook you but actually that’s all there is. So once you buy it and look to do more you’re out of luck
It's a douple edged sword, the way EA handles this life sim is god awsul, but at the moment it's all we have. I can't wait for something better to arise from the life sim genre so no one feels like they need to spend 1000 dolars to have a cottage funeral in autmn
It’s what happens when you have a basically the only life sim on the market with its style of gameplay with 0 competitors. Many say it won’t but give it a year after release I promise inZOI will be forcing EA to go back to the drawing board. Yes their game is accessible on many platforms and weaker computers but that hinders them in a lot of ways when it comes to innovation and sustainability. And the only reason why sims 4 even has a high player base at the moment is due to the F2P base. And as much as they like to act like they are I don’t think their packs are selling as frequent as of late.
@@SpookyNugs I don't know why you think I'm talking down to you. I'm pretty much agreeing with you. I believe their sales of packs are relatively low. This is why we see the early purchase incentives and (as I said before) the high price. I believe they see it as they have one opportunity to get a player to purchase from them by buying a pack, and in doing so, they also intend to recoup the cost of the base game. I'm aware the base game wasn't always free. It was it becoming free that brought me back to the franchise after not having played since the later days of Sims 2. But it's irrelevant here, because we are talking about a pack released when the base game is free. If the base game was still not free, I think this would be a game pack. As it is, we've haven't seen game packs since the base game went free. Instead, every gameplay pack released since has been at a price point where it can replace money lost by making the base game free. I'm not an EA apologist at all. I don't agree with this pricing. I would suggest to anyone who does want a pack to wait for a sale where it is heavily reduced (and some of them are still not worth that). However, it doesn't hurt to try and understand why they may be behaving as they are.
This is actually genius.
@@AliceDjinger see, I would buy that but they gave us the big ahh update that broke my mods but they couldn’t change the core mechanics of the ghosts to be more immersive
lol I lost like 5 gigabytes worth of mods and had to start over, but my ghosts need to pee, sleep and eat…
@honinakecheta601 well, that's honestly an unfair complaint. It's not their intention to break the game, it's just the fact that the code base changed. Any update would break the mods, unfortunately that's how games work.
WHY do ghosts need to eat? What’ll happen if they don’t? They die? THEY’RE ALREADY DEAD

I’m so upset about the lack of tattoos. I was really hoping they would add some really cool death/skull/reaper tattoos.
I watched another video that did show a reaper tattoo… can’t remember if there were others.
@@PrncsBelle22the tattoo is from the reaper’s rewards event not the pack unfortunately
There was a missed opportunity to bring back zombies
dw they'll probably be in a separate $20 pack with the depth of a puddle😁
"Missed opportunity" the main slogan that sums up the sims 4 as a whole and individually
Shows how little EA cares about the occults in the sims 4 compared to the sims 3.
Honey, have you not learned? We are going to get a Zombie as well as a Fairy pack - each for the price of Sims 3 Supernatural.
Zombies and tarot card job would have made the pack worth 40 bucks. Bonus points if we could curse people into becoming zombies with the tarot cards
Also why can you see horse's needs but not cat's and dog's? That's annoying to me
We probably will not get mermaids or aliens fixed as they're not base game.
@@insertchannel666 and 20 is in my opinion still to expensive but you think yes its a great price
That's why you sail the high seas ! 🏴☠️🌊
@insertchannel666 that only works as an excuse so many times. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me 17 times, I'm an idiot who won't learn.
@@insertchannel666 It is players fault as well. After the first few year you could already see the worth of expansion packs wasn't worth the asking price. okay here’s where we have the problem:
“why do simmers repeatedly buy broken or low quality packs?”
as FGG says, this pack has some of the best build/buy we’ve ever seen. it also contains a lot of gothic and victorian stuff, a pretty big niche within the sims community.
these items and worlds will be used by youtubers, and viewers will want to download their builds that contains these items, without having to replace every item; modders will use the meshes and gameplay of objects to creat CC that requires the pack to function. add on general FOMO, and the fact that a lot of really good community-requested features are usually shoved into these packs (thinking For Rent bringing us townhouses, Growing Together bringing kids bikes), simmers always end up buying for one reason or another.
i gave up buying packs years ago and was playing base game on console. desperately wanting to play any life sim, i made a victorian save. you can see where this is going.

Thanks for the honesty! Now I know I only partly waisted $40 plus tax
3:37 so I haven't seen this around a lot but this weeping mother Alice reminds me of La llorona legend. A mother who lost her kids and cries looking for them basically.
And that kid is a reference to the Ring movie + they also have a new channel on TV referencing that
"Romantic Goth meets Dark Academia", this pack was _made_ for me!
This is why I love being a pirate ☠️
🤮
me too i never gonna spend money in this game fr😂❌️💯
Same, I honestly can’t imagine paying 40 bucks for this let alone multiple packs. Thinking about it makes me nauseous, that’s A LOT of money for mediocrity and boring packs. Even this pack bored me and it’s arguably better than most others. But that’s like comparing something average (this pack) with something awful (previous broken packs). Everything just feels less egregious when there isn’t a price tag attached, I feel bad for people who keep buying this stuff and deluding themselves into believing their empty bank accounts are worth it.
Just a heads up there bestie but being a “pirate” is a federal crime in the USA at least, so maybe don’t go around admitting it openly lol
Your channel is honestly gold. You are honest, funny, eloquent and you have an extremely cool editing style. Thank you so much for your content❤
Agree with reskins too, even on build/buy, im desperate for reskins of BG items like elements display or corkboard (Plumbella doing the lords work with hers, but that only really suits the style of her pack) i want a cosmolux corkboard or a Queen anne style Elements display 😂💁♀️
not mad about this, but i think in terms of social media, they should have just made ONE and expanded upon it with each pack imo if they really wanted to do more
i feel like calling them "reskins" is kinda inaccurate? sure the menus are similar but funerals and dates serve very different purposes lol
@@AstronomicalJelly yeah, that too. I think Sarah was a little to sassy on that one point 😀
As someone with visual issues i appreciate they took that into account.
exactly thank you, i'm tired of this myth getting pushed.
I bit weird snow isn't allowed but rain is, as snow, rain and cold is often associated with dark/death-like landscapes...

Is it better than getting the packs from anadius?
@@callitjaylorloveanadius works perfectly for me.
Seeing all the trailers I thought this DLC would be at max like $25 💀 the $40 JUMPSCARED ME
It’s worth the money in my opinion. I hate EA but I bought it and I’m loving it and I feel I got my moneys worth.
@neville2308 I bought two games combined for $40 What do you mean this alone is worth $40 💀
All the dlc have a fixed price depending on their category, so I knew it would be 40. But yeah, it's not worth 40.
@@neville2308how? For $40 dollars I could do to steam and buy BG3 at discount, and that's an award winning game with thousands of hours of content, or wait until the sale ends and give up an extra ten.
They are charging the price of a high end game for a DLC with barely a few hours of content
@@noctisthedevious welcome to the sims. no, welcome to ea
I wish I could criticize this game myself but my computer can't run it anymore and it speaks volumes 😭😭
"No i was talking abt taxes!"
I enjoyed it the first playthrough and then thought, "That's it?" That said, I think legacy players will enjoy it. I tend to be a single sim player and as such feel as though it's not marketed to my style unless I keep having my sim be reborn into other families. I agree with you about the world being amazing, though.
Oh my god thank you for the honest, concise review 😭😭 the price comparison to the other games is insane fr, the sims 4 packs are so overpriced.
i appreciate this review so much. i still want the pack but this review reminded me that in no way in hell and hades will i fork over 40 entire doll hairs for it
Playing devil’s advocate vis a vis the gameplay - what would the gameplay involve if NOT tasks? The Sims by nature is task based, so it doesn’t surprise me that the pack has that kind of gameplay, and I genuinely can’t think of another way they could have done it.
*the sims 4 is task based. Into the future (sims 3) is the only one of the previous games that I can think of as task based
I think the problem with sims 4 is that everything has a list to complete, there's no exploring like in sims 3 world adventures.
I heard someone say that this is the best gamepack they released so its fun seeing someone speak against that
Of course everyone who just spent $40 is going to keep the rose colored glasses on for as long as possible. In a week they will have buyers remorse and be complaining about new bugs.

@@AstronomicalJelly maybe.
@@love420smoke well, i didn't pay for this EP and still found it just perfect.
@@yourfavouriterat not sure why you replied to me, my comment didn't pertain to you.
Well spoken. Thank you for this very good video, we need more of this.
I like this pack and bought it on a discount but I agree on everything ESPECIALLY the ghosts having needs. You are dead, why are you hungry? What do you need to sleep for? HOW are you even showering??
It was the same thing in The Sims 3 as well though in The Sims 3 ghosts did not have powers or a skill tree
Not to mention what they did to my poor Mass Effect (and Dragon Age.)
Not intending to have this come across as criticism of you - my goal is simply to point out they've been awful for too long.
You should watch satchonsims brutally honest review series they are fun to watch

I’m loving this pack so much. I can’t stop playing, I’m addicted! 😂
I wish you could also select a bucket list item. Like, I'm telling a story, I want to put specific bucket list items.
Finally a real review thank you !

I uninstalled the game a few days ago and I do not miss it. My money will go elsewhrere. Thanks for testing it for the community!
I played it for 5 minutes and already got overwhelmed by the rabbit holes and tasks
A slight correction at 2:33. It's Forgotten Hollow, Midnight Hollow is a Sims 3 store world.

I'm having a blast with this pack.
Let's be real tho, this is probably the best Expansion Pack we ever had in the whole Sims 4,, let's point out some of the features:
It added a Ghost Skill Tree (Meaning more powers)
It added 1 Active Career and 1 Inactive Career
It added a few interactive options to world (the rabbit holes) and of festivals similar to San Myshuno
It added rebirth! which is the first time ever in a Sims game
It added heritages and heirlooms which correct me if I'm wrong but it's also the first time ever in a Sims game?
It added funerals which is also the first time ever in a Sims game
It upgraded the mourning system moodlets, not only for deaths but also for losing a job, losing a romantic partner and a long date friend
It added tarot with a very fun gameplay to find the cards (Tarot from BB is different, it has less options)
Reintroduced Cemeteries (Which is kinda... meh... since they were always base game tho)
Gave us Ghosts Quests around the World (LORE)
and much more
It costed 40,00 Dollars/Euros? YES... do you need to pay that?
Or does it not allow you to use that object for snow in that world specifically?

im sorry but this is by FAR the best pack for TS4. great cas, great bb, great gameplay and amazing, game-changing new features, INCREDIBLE lore and world-building, minimal bugs (in my own experience, and actually i do not think i have encountered a SINGLE bug since downloading the preorder). i think there are things they could have done to take this pack further, but with the state its already in, im happy and in my opinion, this might be the ONLY pack worth $40 in TS4.
totally agree
This is why I got a DLC unlocker instead of buying sims 4 packs. A lot of them just arent really worth the 20 or 40 bucks to buy them.
Love your videos ❤
Love and appreciate the honesty! For some simmers they enjoy the tasks but for some we're looking for more 😅
My own experience: this is the only sims 4 pack I ever pre-ordered and the only sims 4 pack I bought while it wasn't on sale, I have zero regrets.
Honestly they need to start hiring better people who are more professional. What they need to do is hire Sims4 Moders
I am really sad, that there are no seasons in the new world. I need my spooky rainy halloween-weather! 😢😢
I’m butt hurt there’s no snow. I wanted a narnia or Edward Scissorhands vibe with the snow. But other than the no snow, I’m really loving this pack. This is one of my favorites along with seasons, city living, and cottage living.
@neville2308 I love the Pack too! But thats why it hurts so much more, because I love seasons too!

But many players have said funerals actually work
@@zachsanchester9441they do. Just don't overload what you want your sims to do at them. Part of wedding stories issues stem from giving sims too many things to do/interact with on a lot (that's before you hit the bugs list)
But…… completing tasks is literally what you do in videogames lol. What else would you do? No hate, I’m just confused at what she expected?
People are still happily playing those as well to this day.
the fact that this pack costs the same as god of war is insane lmaooooo
I love both the pack and the Reaper's Rewards. Can't stop playing and thinking of all the lore while not playing
My issue with this pack (and nearly every other pack) is there isn’t anything hidden really, they show everything initially to hook you but actually that’s all there is. So once you buy it and look to do more you’re out of luck
That's easy to solve. Don't watch everything about the pack. Watch a trailer then go in blind. You'll be suprised that way.
@@SBBunny93this I absolutely agree with. If their packs were selling at a high frequency they wouldn't need sales on them every other weekend too.
@@SpookyNugs hence the high price of packs. A pack purchase is effectively paying for both the base game and itself.
@gnu_andrew I apologize if I misinterpreted what you said.
