Sims 4 is only still getting players because of the modding community. If the modders stopped then people wouldn’t touch sims 4 and only play sims 3 or sims 2 and maybe sims 1 if they can

I think there’s a big chunk of vanilla players out there but yeah if the modding community left the game, that’s when we’ll start to see the sims 4 struggle in popularity

This is precisely why Life By You have recently said that they will give modders free reign to make whatever mods they want and sell them. It's a really smart move. EA could lose a LOT of their modders. This could potentially attract a LOT of modders to switch to LBY, but only if LBY fixes the problems with their character models.

Exactly the same for me. I barely touch the game anymore. It's odd... I don't have many lasting memories of the game. Only a few funny moments but that's it. People having the mentality to tell others to be grateful to a large corporation is crazy, especially when the criticism is valid. Having war seems even crazier. I don’t doubt it would happen, but like go outside. There’s a lot better things someone can do with their time. Expending that much energy to fight with people online isn’t worth it.
I can’t wait for the new games. They all look so cool and fun. I can’t tell you the last time I thought anything the Sims 4 put out was fun. We all should’ve stopped buying Sims stuff years ago. I think it’s the competition coming out that led to the most recent boycott. There’s really nothing the Sims can do about it either. Whatever cools ideas they come out with to keep us hooked won’t work, because of the limitations of the engine they made the game with. They’d literally have to break it down and rebuild it to make 100% functional, and that’s just not going to happen. Their best bet is to finally let the Sims 4 die, no new dlc, nothing, and move on to the Sims 5. They’re years over due for another part of the franchise that’s not a spin-off. If they can make that game 10x better than any game in the franchise, then they won’t have anything to worry about with competition. We can all be happy with that and the new games.

The “ungrateful” argument is so backwards to me because EA is not giving you this product out of the kindness of their heart. They want your money. The only reason Sims 4 is still relevant is because EA is using the Sim’s “game changers” to prop and hype it up to younger and newer players, and let's not forget about the “critical Sims reviewers” who still buy the DLC and pretty much give it a free promo.
I’ve been an avid supporter since the original Sims. Have the entire collection, with the exception of Sims 4. The sims at one point was a very beloved franchise to me. I’m the reason my siblings started playing it, and then later on in my life, I introduced it to my nieces.
Sims 4 has been such a big disappointment. I remember when I first purchased Sims 4 on release and doing something I had never done with any previous version, which was uninstalling and not touching the game for an entire year. At one point, I returned and hoped and really believed that it would improve, but it never did.
I’ve since been actively boycotting with my wallet. It was fun while it lasted, but I never thought my love for the Sims would end like this. All good things will come to an end, I suppose. I appreciate your input provided in this video, it really validates what a lot of us have been feeling.

    • @PandaBaeYT
      @PandaBaeYT  5 месяцев назад +4

Validation is so needed. On the surface, the sims 4 is made to look like it has only a few problems but in reality there’s a big issue with the game that makes long time players like us unfortunately have to step away.
Game Changers have so much power it’s honestly scary. But I get it why they do what they do. I’m just hoping for the ones who have been unhappy with the game for so long finally get that spark back with these new games coming soon.

Well for me it would be SIMS 2 lore and story progressions and SIMS 3 open worldness then Mix with the upgrades of sims 4 house decorations and house buildings. Options aren’t always good. Sometimes we think systems need to be more complex than they are and results can be regrettable. On the other hand, you don’t wanna choke players with over-simplicity either. There’s a balance to be found in the middle. In reality, not everyone likes the same things. And I don’t think there has to be a “best” game there will just be games hopefully with thriving communities around them for all our separate and diverse reasons of what we like to play.

i kinda blame the players bc they’re doing the same thing with TS4 they did with TS3, they were tired of TS3 and wanted EA to make a new game, when EA released "into the future" it flopped so hard they knew they had to release TS4 very soon if they wanted to keep sales up, they rushed and released something that wasn’t even fully finished and had to change direction (coming from a game who was supposed to be online to make it a single player game and led to what we know today : full of bugs and less features overall.)
I also blame the players because even though they complain over and over (and if we’re being honest they complained since the release of the base game) they keep the game alive by buying more and more. Players have the power to keep that game alive or make it dead. If we’re being honest without players’ money EA cannot do shit. They don’t wanna listen to y’all complaints about their game being literally unplayable ? Fine, DON’T buy more then.
EA is a company like another, they don’t care what we think about their games until it impacts the sales. They’ll act like a "friendly company creating new things for people who support them", like every business do, the truth is they don’t care about what we say until they lose money and it shows. If you don’t believe me or think i’m exaggerating, EA is known for only thinking about bills, video games players know that when EA buy a franchise from another company, they’ll add micro transactions and make them games unplayable because of that.
I think the same thing that happened to TS3 is gonna happen with TS4, they TRY to avoid it by releasing more packs and for the moment it’s working. But slowly it’ll die which is most likely already happening ig? and this time the situation is even worse because sims players aren’t "waiting for a new EA game", they’re waiting for the "new life simulator game".

The Sims 5 can end in Cities Skylines 2 disaster. People used to use DLCs, and if a new clean game comes out, people would say "But the previous game was better!". It would be very hard to code the whole game with all the DLCs from scratch and update it with even more DLCs later.
And yes, I see that games are harder and harder to pirate and what is the best way to make a game unpiratable? Make it free! And pay2win its contents.

Fully aware that this video was created before the cancellation of Life by You. Please take my comment with a grain of salt. I have been playing the Sims since Sims 1. When I complain about something in Sims 4, I am speaking from experience with this company and this franchise so when people tell me I don't know what I'm talking about, I just shrug it off because they don't know who they're talking to. The Sims need competition. They are monopolizing this genre of gameplay, and it is time that changes. Why they're so sloppy and why they don't fix things in an orderly fashion it's because they know they monopolize this genre of gameplay and are cocky to believe that they have no competitors. Enter InZoi which I believe will offer EA some serious competition. Completed, I believe Paralives will offer them some true competition. There is a war within the simpson community because of the fact there are currently no other games to offer competition. Once that occurs, you will see the community calm down and change pace.

It will absolutely not take just as many years for the sims to die off. May I remind you of how EA messed up so bad with SimCity 5 that it was singlehandedly outperformed and replaced by Cities Skylines within one release, even though SimCity has been a thing since 1989 (way longer than the Sims). EA has not released a mainline SimCity game ever since that happened. They made an (unsuccessful) mobile game and an (unsuccessful) facebook game that was taken down after less than a year, and the franchise has basically died. All it takes is for a competitor to release a game that is *significantly* better than the Sims and that's it. The gaming industry is fast-paced and very competitive. And I think neither EA, nor many fans of the Sims have really understood that yet. EA is currently repeating the same mistakes they made with SimCity (bugs not being fixed, too much frankly low-quality paid DLC, pushing for online integration and possibly multiplayer despite players' wishes to remain offline singleplayer). I would absolutely not be surprised if they get their butts handed to them a second time, since they refuse to learn.

EA quit and EA didn’t try. They literally shut down the branch of Maxis that worked on SimCity and that had zero to do with City Skylines. It would be sad if they did that with sims franchise but I don’t think it will. SimCity 2013 and Sims 4 are not equal cases. SimCity 2013 crashed and burned immediately due the later revoked always online requirement that made the launch a catastrope. And honestly, its not a bad game now that that always online requirement doesn’t exist. There are also people who still play and still find some things about it more charming than City Skylines. But at the end of the day, City Skylines did not fight and win against EA, in fact Paradox was too afraid to go against EA when Collossal Order devs first proposed a city builders. City Skylines was only greenlit because SimCity had ALREADY failed and so there was an abandoned spot just ripe for a game.
Also, SimCity 2013 itself did not build a thriving game community around it the same as Sims 4 for a decade, this includes modders. My modded version of my Sims 4 game I do plan to very much keep playing even when I have Paralives and maybe LBY (we’ll see what happens with InZoi…fence sitting until public release). Much like Sims 2 and 3, despite its problems Sims 4 will have people that still love it, still stick with it, and still find it better than the alternatives. And some of it might just be familiarity as Paralives, InZoi, LBY (maybe Vivaland and who knows what else) will have there little ways of not being the Sims. Which will be comforting to some and send others back to the comfort of the thing they know.

The problem they have now is that *if* Sims 5 fails and there are competitors who might do better, that could actually lead to EA just throwing in the towel like they did with Sim City. And that's where I see them making the same mistakes as they did before with the online requirement, etc.

I don't know that the competitors need to be better, even. Just good enough that EA no longer feel like they have a monopoly. Would they put in the same effort for two thirds the sales? Would that make sense for their budget? Even if the three main competitors nab only 10% each of the market share, EA might find that their money is better spent elsewhere. They certainly won't spend MORE money to get the SAME income. They are pinching pennies as it is.

The only thing that matters to EA is how much money the Sims can bring in, otherwise it’s dead to the company, just like Mirror’s Edge. That alone gives me hope the series can improve, but we saw EA willing to risk it all with their release of SimCity.
Ultimately, the quality of the game in terms of reviews and opinions of players matters little to the company so long as it sells. In 2004, when the Sims 2 came out, reviews DID matter more because it better translated to sales. There were no streamers to draw attention to your product to get more people buying it.

I think the people that get overly defensive of sims 4, and specially of EA, just don't like to exercise their critical thinking. I have over a thousand hours of gameplay in Sims 4, all original (bc I need mod support and already spent money on DLCs years ago), and don't actually want to switch to Sims 3 (mainly bc I've grown accostumed to the few new features of Sims 4), but I'm the first person to tell EA to f*ck off. I wouldn't be caught dead defending a company as shady and greedy as EA, much less their current behavior of sucking dry every good thing about a game franchise. If I'm giving them money you BET I'll criticize them when they don't deliver. People need to realize that their tastes are NOT the same thing as the soulless companies that make the stuff they love, and to worship a corporation is to set yourself up to failure, because those companies and the people who run them and profitt off of them literally don't care about anything other than money. That should be obvious for EA fans, seeing how easy they turned around Will Wright's critique of consumerism of the original Sims game into precisely an altar to it in only a few years.
I still can enjoy Sims 4, with my 12gb of mods overhauling the lackluster DLC features, but as soon as the final game patch comes out, I'm updating my mods one last time and pirating the hell out of it, and staying there. I don't even want to touch Sims 5, because it all just looks like it's gonna be a facebook-style MMO and I've already had my fun playing those in 2015 as a kid, but now I can only give my time, energy and money to pay-once games that don't try to suck you dry.

My thoughts are that people are seeking nostalgia in this current time. We are quickly becoming annoyed by cash grabbing elite companies profiting and offering lackluster products. The soul has left the Sims along with all the bugs, it’s just not worth the money. It’s tiring to watch EA further release packs that should have been in the original game. Way back when the sims first came out I remember it would give you a certain feeling when playing it, along with the sims 2. Somewhere down the line EA sold out like the rest of these big companies. We are in the era of watching these companies collapse to make room for new and refreshing ideas built off pure creativity and love.

If simcity is anything to go by, and there is a competitor that does what City Skylines did. I do believe that EA share in the life sim genre will shrink a good size. Plus there will be multiple life sim games. Sims won't be the main life sim game anymore, once each of these games fully release. It's going to slowly die. There's won't be a reason for them to invest more time and money in the game, when they can just pay more attention to their other games that gross more money than the sims. Madden and FIFA. The sims community may think sims is a huge game in EA portfolio. But it really isn't, especially compared to Madden or FIFA.

Like lets honestly think about this really quickly, the game all together, although its free the game expansions cost almost 1k all together. If the base game feels empty and the only way for u to make ur game better is to buy the extensions then why make ur game free to begin with. You can buy kits but what game play does that really add, you can buy expansion packs but all that really implements into ur game is a $50 unfinished game feature.
Like lets be honest, the sims 4 having a "flop" area acouple years ago had them releasing small worlds, houses without toilets, and unnecessary features all for the (low) price of 49.99 and people ask why we mad. The Sims franchise, if EA continues to move toward the path they are, is going to die. It is not on the consume to be grateful or to be appreciative of what they have.
EA believes that consumers will continue to consume Sims over the competition, and because of that mentality they will continue to push for more money for fewer things, going so far as to go "free to enter" and lock basic gameplay behind multiple paywalls. They have already done this to some degree with the Sims 4. Consumers like you who adopt the "we should support it regardless" mentality are adding to the problem.
This is a continuous pattern across all consumer-based media but especially with video games. The Sims is in it's sunset. Other viable competition for the life sim title is coming, and the only reason EA's model has worked thus far is because they have had no competition. They have doomed themselves with their thinking that they are too big to fail.
