As one who was born in Artesia and the culture at the time surfers were territorial and legendary. Once a surfer always a surfer even if you live near the continental divide. From this location you can smell the Pacific ocean when the Santa Anna winds kick up and come from the south west and drop over The Rockies . The scent of the Pacific and surfers are bonded like an eagle is to wind and connected to a sense of being free.

I love seeing the surfers out there proving the lack of danger to normal surf and waves! As a former surfer, we did that all the time when storms or hurricaines hit. We can't help it, when the waves get bigger they get louder calling out to us! 😅

My Dad was required to "run" laps there. He would run to the end of the pier, jump off, and catch a wave in and then do it as many times as was required.
