High surf causes flooding in Ventura

- Massive waves rolling into Ventura beaches as swells reach 15 to 18 feet and some sets close to 20 feet. Waves poured over the walls separating the beach from homes causing flooding in Pierpoint and damage to homes. Bailey Miller reports for the NBC4 News on Dec. 28, 2023.
Lived there my whole life. Never seen nothin like this
So you are like 3 years old?
@uio890138 lol.. I ment never seen anything like that happen in ventura. Sure some flooding here and there and in oxnard. But never the water just barreling down the street from the ocean. And of course I seen it on the news happen in other places.
Theres footage of flooding in 1969 that is way worse.
@johnnycab8986 well I was born in 82. So I missed that
I have heard the elderly say they have never seen anything like this in their lifetime. That’s worrisome.
That's what I was wondering, Is it normal? Hm.
68 years old and lived most of my life in Ventura County. Never seen anything like this before...
100 year floods happen about every 100 years. Most people live into their 70s and 80s. Not counting the damn collapsing in 1938 a quick search of Ventura floods brings up 1873, 1965, 1968, 1969, 1978, 1983, 1992, 1995, 1998, 2005, 2014, 2019 and 2023. How old are those 'elderly' you spoke with? I remember the 1978 and 1983 storms that washed a lot of Ventura and Malibu into the Pacific. Did those elders relocate to CA from AZ or NV, by chance?
Another climate change denier...Truth Social is the forum for you, kid.
@@Ziggy_Moonglow1926.. if we had a repeat with Castaic-? I had AI work it out and crunched 30k out. 30k dead from a Castaic failure. It was an estimated 3-600 100 years ago.
People got up front with their phones to record the huge waves, but then took off when the waves fell on them.
Cameraman survives. They’re messing up
It's just like... Dude, you get the best barrels ever, dude. It's just like, you pull in, and you just get spit out 'em. You just drop in, smack the lip. Waapah! Just drop down. Swoopah! And then after that, you just drop in, ride the barrel, and get pitted, so pitted.
Should of been prepared for this , High surf forecast with Full moon and high tides means the shoreline reaches a higher and longer area .... Mother Nature some times lines up every once in a while , but this was forecast even on a normal surf web page .
They need that *Idiot Law* here in California which speaks directly to stupid people who endanger themselves by going out into an ocean that clearly doesn't want them right now, thereby putting emergency responder's lives in danger when they go out to try to save them.
Agreed, but it would apply to the 65% who are far leftists
@@bukboefidun9096Right because Floridians don’t do this? You deserve the Darwin Award.
I agree with your message.
Ventura is in California
In case you were more confused than normal Newie sucker?
what about the freedom to make your own choice. many surfers have no issue being out there…. and the ones that choose to go out there accept the risk. who are you to say they can’t enjoy the sport they love? you have a very typical left leaning worldview… maybe you should worry about yourself instead of wanting to police everyone around you
It's Pier PONT not Pier Point 😉. I've lived here 40 yrs- go to Seward turn around where that incredible wave hit: have never seen it that high!
Tell Megan hi
All those needles getting washed out. That'll be a fun beach trip this summer.
Fourth largest economy on the entire planet. Keep laughing clown
I feel for SOME of these people. I also love how the reporter at the beginning said the waves " Pushed " the truck when It was painfully OBVIOUS that there was a person in the Rig DRIVING to get away from the waves... MEDIA FEARMONGERING CONTINUES...
Reporters have no clue what they’re reporting. Anytime you see a story you know anything about it’s painfully obvious. Yet we still believe whatever they report. [Murray Gell-Mann effect]
These neighborhoods are right there almost on the beach itself..
I’ve lived here since 1928, never seen anything like this.
It’s called a tsunami. Doesn’t happen often. But it does happen
"Storm of the century" comes around every 100 years or so, but people who live, on average 76 to 82 years, will always say "Never seen nothing like this" right on cue.
I love ventura! I lived in pierpont back in the late 80s. Such a beautiful area❤ Stay safe everone! Mother nature doesn't play!

This is one of my favorite hotels.
Jane Fonda was there! That salt water on their brake rotors, calipers and so much more will start rusting in hours if not rinsed off.
You are hilarious thank you for the laugh .😅 Stay safe.
He’s nog wrong salt water ruins cars
we deal with that all the time in Hawaii... its called mother nature 🤙🤙 u gotta respect
I went to Chanel Island High School down there back in the 1970’s. When C.I. High was the C.I.F Champions both in track and field plus football 🏈. My best to all those effected by this wave that hit Ventura.
I have stayed in that hotel right on seaward its nice but Id never stay in high surfs just to risky.
Newsom is going to make a killing off this ;)

He's going to make surfing illegal

How about those Malibu beach homes??
I love Ventura! Hope the ship with the rope swing doesn't drift off. I would love to take my daughter there, show her the ship and my Grandma's old house in the keys.
Ventura is in California - not sure if they have "keys" there but Florida does..
@@cecileroy557 Yes, and the Ventura Keys are a little bit different than the FL Keys, but indeed are in Ventura, CA.
funny, that was my first thought too -- I hope "pirate beach" is ok!
Yes there’s an area called the keys next to pierpont
It was a zipline and its gone
OH MY GOD!!! IT'S NOT EVEN A LOT OF WATER YOU GUYS!!!!!! YOU ARE MAKING SUCH A BIG DEAL OUT OF IT!!!!!!
Right. Not a lot of water you say. Yeah. That water has a lot of force behind it. Water can be very powerful and dangerous, even a little bit. Besides, there's also the currents and any debris the water is carrying.
There is a lot of mud and water damage. It's enough water to destroy things. Who made you the expert.....
O my Roof roof!
The homes are built lower then the sea level....
People will never stop running from the water
I wonder what time it was becasue I looked at the live feed of Ventura harbor and saw a massive crash off to the right. The spray was higher than the tree there
I know this is going to sound awful but every time I see the news footage of the rogue wave crashing over the water break wall, and blasting all those bystanders I hear WIPE OUT playing in my head. I guess somebody could make a mash up viral video out of that!
You don’t want your vehicle inundated with salt water. Park on higher ground.
Wow I was waiting to see where the gravitational pull would land..
I live where it’s cold and by god it snowed! Never would have thought but here I am with snow! And the sun disappeared behind clouds and made it colder!!!
We’re all here for the thumbnail. 😂😂😂
NO HOMES SHOULD BE BUILD UP NEAR ALONG THE COAST.
I love nature!
i live in hawaii and have enjoyed the three hurricanes i've been in. the strange and weird thing is that we haven't had any hurricanes touch down in over 6 years. i blame climate change. it's weird. there are SUPPOSED to be hurricanes here. They are beautiful!

This is common on the east coast, but not the west, so a lot of California probably isn't taking the warnings seriously because they've never experienced it. Meanwhile east coast knows not to mess around. It's a "f*** around and find out" from mother nature 😂

...the ocean has waves ? ...on the coast of all places ? Lol
Plant native plants on the banks that grow near the bank they will brake up the waves, mangroves are especially great at that and purify the water and increase habitat by offering protection to native wildlife.
Mangroves in California? That is absolutely hilarious.
@@user-ke9yk5qp3u they can grow there California is a zone 5to 13 and near the coast is the warmest it will break up the waves making them less severe, you dummies don't understand half your problems can be solved with nature but instead of fixing it you just act like it's not there and complain, I'm giving you a solution it'll also help with soil erosion as well so sand and mud don't just get washed out into your vanity lawn.
