I'm watching this 14 years after it was first posted and am wondering what has happened to all of this very talented young people?
I have no end of respect for multi-linguistics who can snap between languages that well. And their singing was AMAZING
performances like this have raised everyone's standards and joy. Go Wales!

It was the twinnings male choir who brought this song to my city and now we picked up this marvelous song in our choir here in Belgium. I am eagerly waiting for the applause this will provoke when we'll perform this on stage later on.
This choir in my opinion was clearly the best that year and should have won the competition.
Finally a choir that sings the original. I remember my primary school choir, it didn't even seem like the song, it was changed so much.

Out of all the songs I have heard, this is the only song I can not get enough of, I can literally listen to this song for all eternity, it is perfect
When Welsh speak, it already sounds like a music. And when they sing... WHOA.
I am Welsh and this is my opinion of the language. When Welsh people speak Welsh, it, to me, sounds awful yet, when they sing, now that is something special. I can listen to Calon Lan and, even if I don't understand the words, I feel the emotion.

theatrebeau55 funny thing is my son is part of glanaewthy and they had a concert the other day and they sang this song and to be fair they were much better worth watching theyre doing a uk tour if ur intrested search it on google it might come up

What I would really love to know is how the judges reacted to this performance. I love it, but I know they were "warned" during the castings about singing in Welsh. But.... seeing as the final two standing were from Wales.... maybe singing in Welsh ain't such a bad idea!

It is such a pity that this song appears on neither of the published CDs containing songs by Ysgol Glanaethwy. It is outstanding and has captured my heart despite my woeful ignorance of the Welsh language.

@LauraJeannieJimenez Of course it is a different language! This school choir is from Wales and part of the lyric is being sung in their native UK language - Welsh. In parts of Wales, especially in the west and north, where this choir is based - in Bangor, North Wales - Welsh is widely spoken & is the main day-to-day means of communication, but of course every Welsh person speaks English fluently as, like in the rest of the UK, English is the official language of Cymru (that's Wales in Welsh).

I haven't heard that song for 35 years when we sang it in our high school jazz choir...and it's been rolling around in my mind ever since! It is from the Broadway hit, "Sweet Charity".

When I sung this in English for choir last year it was completely different lyrics...
Intro wuz like this I was walking down the street last Sunday feelin mighty low and kinda mean, suddenly a voice said go forth neighbor spread the picture on the wider screen. And the voice said neighbor there's a million reasons why you should be glad in all four seasons forget all about worry and strife just spread the religion of the rhythm of life...

They were asked by the judges in the preliminary round not to because it reduces the number of people that the music can communicate with. Personally I thought it was a nice touch, and beautifully sung too!
Well gavharvey , it's good to know that talented people like you watch these videos and post comments . I've searched through Utube and don't seem to be able to find your rendition of this number so if you haven't already posted it please do so as soon as possible so that I and others can give an honest critique to your vocals .
In the meantime I think I'll just enjoy the obvious talent of this youth choir singing their directors brilliant arrangement .

My High School choir sang this, and we sounded a ton like these guys in all English. I wouldn't put it past my Choir to beat these guys.

@Bleumange i went to this school an he is not shite!! he is amazing and so is his wife! they gave me the best oppurtunitys in life,,i got to performe at the Albert Hall wen i was 8 and 12! how amaing is that! i left becuase it was too much with my GCSE's and evrything but it is amzing ther!!

This song is based on "Rhythm of Life" from the Musical Movie "Sweet Charity". I think that finding lyrics would be hard. It seems that they sing a special (own created) version. At 0:45 they sing welsh.

Ha ha I was asking myself the same thing for the first 5 times I watched this. Then I checked the LCS site and found out that the 'strange language' was Welsh, and even then it took me some time to realise what really enthousiasted the audience ;-).

Glanaethwy is the name of the school (ysgol =school/ladder in welsh) and they are from NW Wales on menai atrait btw :)
