詞 Lyrics: Dorothy Fields
編 Arrangement: Richard Barnes,
曲 Music: Cy Coleman
指揮 Conductor: Cheung Kai Kui
伴奏 Accompanist: Tsui Hong Wa, Tsui Tsit
Video recorded by: 拓 @ 12th
This song is from the Broadway Musical "Sweet Charity" with
rearrangement by Richard Barnes, who turned the piece to a 4-part
mixed choral work. With the playful melody and smart rhythm,
the writer of the song wished to bring the happiness in music to
every audiences and singers, hoping that they can dance along with the music that the city will be surrounded with excitement.
Let us leave our worries and strife!
LYRICS:
When I started down the street last Sunday,
Feelin' mighty low and kinda mean,
Suddenly a voice said, "Go forth, neighbor!
Spread the picture on a wider screen!"
And the voice said, "Neighbor there's a million reasons
Why you should be glad in all four seasons!
Hit the road, neighbor,
leave your worries and strife!
Spread the religion of the rhythm of life."
For the rhythm of life is a powerful beat,
Puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet!
Rhythm on the inside, rhythm on the street,
And the rhythm of life is a powerful beat!
To feel the rhythm of life,
To feel the powerful beat,
To feel the tingle in your fingers,
To feel the tingle in your feet!
Go, go, go! Go, go, go!
Tell them everything you know!
Go and spread the gospel in Milwaukee;
Take a walkie-talkie to Rocky Ridge!
All the way to Canton, then to Scranton,
Even tell it under the Manhattan Bridge.
You will make a new sensation,
Have a growing congregation,
Build a glowing operation here below!
Like a Pied Piper blowing,
Lead and keep the music flowing,
Keep the rhythm go, go, going; go, go, go!

I sang this in high school 26 years ago . I think anyone who has performed this song never forgets it. You choir was absolutely wonderful!!
I remembered performing this song in my middle school as a soprano! Lol such a great song to hear after all these years it brings tears to my eye.
Same! I have a concert next week
I’m singing soprano rn but I’m the only 7th grade soprano and there like 9 6th grade sopranos and 5 8th grade sopranos
I love that there is this one woman who is like really feeling the music

I want this song to be done by a string quartet at my wedding , sung when I'm returning down the Aisle, and a choir of this at my funeral .All parts!
I’m singing this in 2 days with my honor choir!!!
Exceptionally well executed version of this number.... This talented team deserved a MUCH bigger ovation. This is a hard song to do, but they were ALL on point, with exceptional musical direction and and pacing too! I think Bob Fosse would have approved! ;-)
We sang this in a high school Broadway review show with the original lyrics and we all dressed up as hippies. It was 1981. I was on the stage near where the principal was sitting in the audience and by the look on his face he did not approve.
Omg we are singing this in middle school and it is so hard!
We sang this in my junior high school in Nashville Tennessee back in the 70s! I love this song! It was fun to sing then and fun to sing along with now! Great job choir!!!!
I sang this in 1975, and then again in 1977 in the Denver High School All City Choir. Such a fun song!
We sang it in 1980…I was in 4th grade.
Great! One of the best versions I have heard.

"And the voice said, "Daddy, there's a million pigeons waiting to be hooked on new religions. So, hit the road, Daddy. Leave your common law wife. Spread the religion of the Rhythm of Life." Sooooo different from the original song.
@@kell_checks_in yep! Chinese censorship:
Daddy started out in San Francisco,
Tootin' on his trumpet loud and mean.
Suddenly a voice said, "Go forth, Daddy.
Spread the picture on a wider screen.
And the voice said, "Daddy, there's a million pigeons
Ready to be hooked on new religions.
Hit the road, Daddy. Leave your common-law wife.

@@joostadorf9037 It's nothing to do with censorship, an arranger changed words to make the song non specific. When choirs perform the audience doesnt always know the meaning/story of the song. People who do are still able to enjoy it, but those who don't aren't lost in a fast paced storyline.
@@saramfedan BS, It's censorship

And the voice said, "Daady, there's a million pigeons
Ready to be hooked on new religions.
Hit the road, Daddy. Leave your common-law wife.
Spread the religion of the rhythm of life."
And the rhythm of life is a powerful beat,

Daddy spread the gospel in Milwaukee,
Took his walkie-talkie to Rocky Ridge,
Blew his way to Canton, then to Scranton,
Till he landed under the Manhattan .
Daddy was the new sensation, got himself a congregation,
Built up quite an operation down below.
With the pie-eyed piper blowing, while the muscatel was flowing,
All the cats were go, go, going down below.
Daddy was the new sensation, got himself a congregation,
Built up quite an operation down below.
With the pie-eyed piper blowing, while the muscatel was flowing,

Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy,
Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy,
Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy,
Crawl, crawl, crawl to Daddy.
And the rhythm of life is a powerful beat,
Puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet,

Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy,
Daddy we got the rhythm of life,
Of life, of life, of life.

We are singing this in my school's honors choir ^-^ Its 4th-6th grades. I'm in 5th :D
天啊,我小学合唱团的时候也有唱过诶!
Very nice
The original is a cynical song about a cult leader. Amazing how this arrangement makes it innocent.
Goooooooood !!!
im singing this song along with other songs for honors choir and its a competition and I hope it goes well some notes are very high and im a soprano so its harder but I hope we do well
How did it go?
im learning this song in music
I'm learning this in middle school choir right now and...holy shit I love this song. I'm a bass and my soul and spirit get lost in the feeling of the music once that "Puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet" part kicks in. My mind gets sucked into it and I feel really amazing during this song. It's hard tho explain, but people that sing a lot probably know what I mean.
Idk if we're in the same school, are you in the UK
