As a German speaker, I sometimes wonder how much his audience understands when Al speaks German. He anglicises the grammar a bit, but, otherwise, it's perfectly serviceable. I suppose it must just be cultural osmosis which means that most Brits understand what they need to. I have to say I was a bit worried about Megan not getting the world cup references, but hey, it worked out fine.

The London Boss's mentioning his black Labrador is a reference to famous British WW2 movie which was made pre PC days. "The Dambusters" where the Squadron Leader had a black Labrador whose name rhymes with "trigger" - i'll leave you guess that one!
it was a real dog. apparently, back in the day it wasn't viewed as an offensive word in the U.K. The dog's gravestone was later changed to remove the name.

Extension 109: The Messerschmitt Bf 109 is a German World War II fighter aircraft that was, along with the Focke-Wulf Fw 190, the backbone of the Luftwaffe's fighter force. The normal response is "Spitfire!". Dubbed Japanese movies... His timing is brilliant! Did you notice his World was rotating backwards?

Much respect for pointing out that Al Murray 'The pub landlord' is a character. You wouldn't believe the amount of comments I've read of people who were completely oblivious to this fact. He is actually a very well read WW2 historian and I've seen a couple of his lectures at Oxford (I think) University. And I can certainly attain, he is not like this in real life!

Hi Megan, Fritz Messerschmitt on extension 109 was a reference to the WW2 fighter plane, the Messerschmitt Me109, all the other German names were WW2 aircraft makers, Heinkel, Dornier, Junkers and Focke Wulf, apart from Fraulein Tiger Tank of course. All the Japanese names are big Japanese manufacturers, but he did make one mistake, Sony are a Korean firm. Next one to try is "All Jobs Are Terrible".

Its no good just watching that particular sketch, you need to watch the whole show to pick-up the rolling gags he uses (Like Bob-Hope in the Road films) and you also need a good idea of British cultural attitudes past and present to fully understand some of the characterisations and throw-away lines.
