Hit the road with Brandon as he tests out Scorpion's EXO-R1 Air, their premier sport helmet. It features an Ultra-TCT shell (fiberglass, aramid and poly-resin fibers), an advanced multi-layer EPS liner, Scorpion's Elliptec II quick-release face shield mechanism , and integrated speaker pockets. The EXO-R1 is DOT / ECE approved.
I just retired my R2000 (date code) and absolutely loved that helmet. Ordered the R1 and I have not been disappointed one bit. It fits snug, which I like, and the upgrades Scorpion has made on the helmet are really nice. Light weight, flows air just as good if not better than the R2000 and is the shell is more aero. Great if you ride a naked bike.

How do you have your SENA mounted to your helmet? I used the normal base with my 20s an I notice a good amount of wind sound coming from the left of the helmet where it’s mounted
Comparing to the agv k6, which feels better or lighter and In wind noise reduction. ??

Hey guys, in case you’re interested.
I have the R1 Carbon Matte.
I really like the fact they include a tinted visor, a pinlock and a small bag for you to carry the helmet.
The feeling and quality is really good, besides when you’re positioning the visor because (in my opinion) it wobbles too much, far from Shoei visors.
The air fit system is awesome and really, really comfy but it’s hard to reach with racing gloves on and that’s something to keep in mind if you don’t want to yell at yourself for being dumb.
I don’t like the double d-ring system, isn’t as practical as Shoei GT Air 2...takes way too long to tie and untie, and also very hard to do it with gloves.
Overall, I’m really happy with the helmet...really light weight and great aerodynamics for good head movements and design (in my opinion) is really gorgeous.
I do recommend it, but beware of the visor positioning and the double d-ring
Forgot to mention the noise cancellation wich is really good, but the ventilation isn’t as good as Shoei
Are you running a Bluetooth speaker system with it...if so what kind do you use/recommend

Double d is annoying to put on, but it is the single safest option. For one, the fact that you are forced to adjust it every time means the fit is always safe, but much more importantly, they are the only popular option with the strength to withstand breaking before the strap does. FortNine made a great video about it
What GoPro chin mount are you using?
I just received this helmet on my mail. After unboxing it, the visor system feels a little bit flimsy, does anyone feels that way? I’m currently wearing AGV K1 and the K1 does feel a lot heavy compared to the R1. The biggest downside for me from the R1 is the visor! Let me know how is it feel after owning it for a while.
is the smoke visor Pinlock ready as well?
What is the internal shape of the helmet? It is round shape or not? Only round shape helmets like Arai Defiant fit me fine. For example SHOEI RF-1400 little hurts my temples and AGV K6 make me disaster pain so I am round shape. This Scorpion is okay for me or not? Is it round?
Looking for answer, pls, 🤦. New rider looking for all round helmet, comfort, noise, quality, aero etc. Think I've narrowed it down to shoei 1400 or this scorpion exo r1. I think i like the styling a bit better in this scorpion, but looking for the better helmet ??? I'll be on a sport bike
I'm a beginning rider looking at buying this helmet for an all around helmet like an adventure helmet. This is lighter and not as bulky as the Scorpion AT 950.
Great review Brandon...Thank you...Just purchased the same helmet. Looking at Communication systems and it looks like yours uses a clamp. Which one did you opt for and was the install easy?
I believe it’s the cardo packtalk bold. The install is pretty easy for this system.
Even my shoei is loud. I’ll try anything for a quieter helmet! Air seems like a good solve. I use earplugs but it’s amazing how much quieter it is when I shrug. So I guess most of the wind noise comes through the bottom
Eargasm earplugs.... seems expensive at 35 for a pair but my god are they comfortable and work well.... i do alot of highway mileage

@@TechAndMotorcycles the keychain case is also clutch. I wear custom plugs now, but still use the case from the Eargasms.
Pro-tip: you can get a keychain pill box to hold your plugs for cheap if you've already got a pair.

Thanks for the review, Brandon. I’m considering the Scorpion but wondering about fit and size. My head measures 56cm and according the the size chart that makes me a size Small. But I own a Schuberth S2 and Arai Rapide, both in Large, and a Suomy Apex in Medium. What’s your head size and what size Scorpion fits you? Thanks!
I have 56cm head measure to! I tried the S and the M. The S was way tighter and the M was abit loose. So for me it's the S!

@@VincentTL I think you will fit the S. I Had 56.5cm measure and it fit me perfect. I Received the helmet today and it was defect... the smoke visor was not there and in the clear visor the pinlock was broken and there was a cut in the inside of the helmet.. I am waiting for a new one
What would be a better buy? Scorpion R1 carbon or the AGV k6? Casually driving through B roads, and occasionally trackday at a very beginner level?
Which one did you end up deciding on?
@@milbella1 neither. Checked out both and for some reason I didn’t like either one of them. Ended up with Shoei NXR with a transition visor. Best purchase I’ve ever made, I love that helmet a lot. The transition visor was something I was thinking about a lot if I would like it or not, because it was expensive for a visor. But I didn’t regret that one either, because I hate those flip down sunvisors, and now it’s like I have a tinted lens, but I don’t have to carry a clear one for night use.
I put 10s of thousands of miles into my EXO-510 and I loved it but it's time is past, seems like this one actually has space to mount a gopro on the chin LOL rip for no sunvisor tho

Reax castor gloves. They make a solid and perforated version. They're pretty good in a slide too, ask me how I know🤣

Shell 1 = XS thru M. Shell 2 = L. Shell 3 = XL thru 3XL
Is this helmet FIM rated?
Yes but only in size small as I understand. I guess that is Quatararos size :)

It was a real good explanation of the benefits Of having Bluetooth capabilities that are quite actually easy to access with this helmet how much is it that’s the question I have how much is this helmet what are the price ranges

I own this helmet. Have owned it since February when it first came out to North America. This is not a good touring helmet. It's too loud for that. Now it's not terribly loud, but it's not quiet either. This is by far more of a track helmet than anything else. I mean that's why Fabio Quatararo has been wearing it since 2019 in MotoGP racing. I only wear this helmet at the track now. I have used it once on a long distance trip, over 400 miles, and it is very comfy. Probably one of the most comfy helmets I have ever had. I can wear this all day with no complaints. If you plan on using this as an everyday helmet I highly suggest getting ear plugs though. I have three other helmets (RPHA 11 Pro, Corsair X, Sena Momentum) and I would say that this helmet and the Sena are the two louder ones when it comes to wind noise.
I'm a huge fan of Scorpion's helmets, but my current EXO-R2000's air fit system stopped working after 3 years. It's getting retired at the end of this season, but that system will definitely keep me from buying another of their helmets with the air fit feature.

A question to anyone knowledgeable, I only ride an E-bike ( that thing as my pic ) for now as I'm using it to learn how to ride * see if I could handle the real deal, I am also an aspiring Motovlogger and I currently have a modular helmet but there is so much wind noise the mic pic ( even with a deadcat ) is there in the cheaper price range a helmet that can help with this issue?
I'm pretty much semi-retired and $$$ is not flowing out of my wallet, but I would like to have good sound on my videos, not just wind and a muffled me, should I get a full-face helmet or are their mics with gizmos that could make my modular work? ( I appreciate all helpful tips and tricks I might get )

Get a full face helmet with chin guard and air vents that can close. A Scorpion helmet is actually good for you. I have one with the air fit system and it locks out a lot of wind noise when I use it. They're very reasonably priced too. Shop around for an older model if your budget is tight.

So I guess modular helmets are pretty much *crappy* compare to full-face, I have even read that protection wise they lack a lot because of the face is not held by that much, well I value what life I have left so a good helmet no matter what I ride makes sense, and it will be good for when I can afford a real motorbike. :)
