  • It can be daunting to master the badminton backhand technique, but you can relax because Al Liao explains how it can be done in five easy-peasy tips. He starts by explaining the proper grip, which you have already seen in one of the previous videos. Many players refrain from using the backhand since they're not confident in their skills. This is why your opponent may force you to use your backhand so that your return shot is weak and gives him to produce a strong offensive shot. It's crucial to develop a decent backhand technique so that your weakness cannot be used against you. This technique is mostly used for defence and, in particular, instances can be used as an offensive shot. Focus on developing a strong backhand clear so that all other backhand shots come easily to you. Subscribe to our channel and hit the ground running with your badminton training.

Thanks for sharing excellent content. Backhand clear is a shot everyone wants to learn. And needless to say it is very difficult. Al, if you can, please coach this to a new student. And put videos of his transition. When we see you it seems so easy, but in practice I know how difficult this shot is!!

About the racket position in 1:30 before rotating the arm, does it matter if the racket is hold horizontally or vertically?

1.01 to 1.06 makes a mistake of showing elbow going up directly during that last step is taken towards the shuttle. When he actually does the whole thing later elbow is down but rises after foot is placed. This issue ive seen in made videos, they play back hand clear well but dont analyze breakdowns themselves

I tried , but shuttle goes very slow

I see. If shuttle goes slow there are 2 key points you might need to focus on
      1. Angle of racket face when contacting the shuttle
      2. Positioning not in the right position.
Let me know if still have more question about your backhand clear.

I'd recommend having your elbow lower during the preparation then you can throw it forwards AND upwards at the start of the swing.
If you start with your elbow too high then it's harder to create the kinetic chain for power.
