  • To discover always more about deep sea and the coral reef life, the Under the Pole team has left the Arctic for the South Pacific. Diving in an hostile environment, one of the scientists face a shark with a strange behavior, turning to be aggressive. An impressive attack follows.
The wounded diver has then to fight for his survival: trapped between the mandatory decompression stages and his unstoppable loss of blood.

That was a territorial bite. He wanted you out of there. And he got it.

Why did yall keep following it so closely. Why not enjoy it from a safe distance ? You can't really blame the shark. It looked like a defensive bite as to say ,"hey stop it. Leave me alone."

That exaggerated behavior, swimming humpbacked, pectorals down, large head movements, is classic aggressive signaling. How is it that i dont even dive and i know this, and these guys dont?

    • @gigtimes

Agree 100%. That is something they should know. The shark gave them so many warnings to move away

You have the benefit of hindsight and google. If you have no experience to draw from, you wouldn’t know what is normal behavior or not. It’s not often sharks do this. In decades of being in the ocean, I’ve never seen it.

@@Houd_Vast BULLSHIT. I dind't google anything, Johnny. I didn't say I have no experience, I said I don't dive. Many professional hunters have never seen a grizzly charge, but they know what it looks like. It's not "hindsight", I recognized this well-known behavior the second I saw it.

@@Houd_Vast Nope sorry disagree. Those are very experienced divers going to great depths. I am a beginner diver and i learnt that a long time ago out of interest. If you are going into space you dont just go, you find out about it. Same with the ocean...Basic error there

@@citadelgrad87 it’s really only sharks and small aquarium fish that show aggression that way. Animals have many different types of behaviors, but what you should of said, any behavior towards you should be taken seriously.

The sharks pose just before attacking is a school book example of an irritated shark. Look at the arching body and the way it moves. When it does that, you're about to get it.

It is literally shark language for: „leave me the fuck alone or else!“
It’s amazing how long the shark tried a non violent approach by signaling them before he had to resort to force. over 1.5 minutes. He definitely warned them more than one time. There was just a language barrier.

idk but following a shark from behind doesn't seem cool cuz that what they do when they are scouting so for them following him from behind means you where about to do something so he was defensive that's all. that's my take. I don't dive tho so this is all guessing.

    • @lucasmancini2

Makes sense, from a sharks pov, the head is where the mouth is and the mouth is the weapon. if you bite his leg, maybe the diver bites back (from the sharks perspective, of course the diver doesn’t actually bite back) but if you bite his head, it’s much more difficult to bite back.

I can’t understand how this could have happened. I never scuba dived (although I will do my first prevet this year) I have a little bit of snorkel experience. But I know immediately that those signals of the shark means „Get the fuck away from me!“ Yes I did some research on sharks and did snorkel with reef sharks multiple times. But this guys are diving up to 100 meters!! how do they not know? diving to that depth is formula 1 of diving, that’s like climbing on mount everest. They are absolute pros diving since years. How tf do they not know the signs of sharks? This shark signaled it sooo clearly. I have never seen a better video that shows it better and clearer. pectoral fins down, tense body, rapid and exaggerated side to side moves. That’s a picture book example of sharkish for : „I am really really angry, you need to leave me the fuck alone immediately or I will defend myself!“
If you have years of scuba experience and hundreds if not thousands of dives, shouldn’t you know that? Sharks are everywhere in the ocean, no matter where you go diving. You will meet them (and most of the times it’s a pleasure)

WTF!!? Shark exhibits obvious, well known territorial threat behavior and this guy just cruises straight up to him and follows him around? What do you expect to happen? The narration makes it sound like they just "met." Didn't look like that to me -- looked like the diver wanted to approach. Crazy and stupid. Cluster together, stay away from the shark, stay calm and unthreatening -- shark would probably leave.

    • @lucasmancini2

No, the shark was telling them for over 1.5 minutes, to leave him alone and they should absolutely know that. You don’t dive 80 meters if you don’t have years of experience and hundreds of dives.
The sharks rapid and exaggerated side to side movements, pectoral fins down, tensed up body posture, are all signs that he is angry about you, being in his personal space. thats the sharks way of telling you, that you need to leave him alone immediately. They didn’t listen and keept following him very closely. It was absolutely not difficult to avoid this by just leaving the shark. he gave them aloooot of warnings before he had to bite. The problem was just the language barrier.
