Howdy, stranger! Got yerself quite the word polish (moderation style) there! Still, troll guano ain't for hair stylin', believe it. 🤣
Ah, Hard West. Not to be confused with Weird West, or Blood West, Dude West, West of Loathing or Cursed West.
Although it's a pity that the game dropped the multiple story lines with various main characters of the first one, in this one I guess it was necessary to focus on the exploration and expanding the main narrative by uncovering smaller stories and stich them into a cohesive whole.
Glad the game turned out to be good, loved the first one, definitely getting this one.
Any game that looks and plays like Xcom, Divinity Originial Sin, and Wasteland is a buy for me. Love the Western aesthetic. Seems like this is what Weird West should have been like.
After Weird West, Supernatural West is one of my top sub genres, can't get enough
The game starts with a spider train? Hell yes. This was already a must-play with how much I loved the original, but I'm jazzed to see how the sequel is embracing the insanity.
I never even heard of this game till today when I was on Steam. Looked really cool so I come to RUclips to see if there's word on it, and of course Karak has a review. That's always a good thing. Damn this looks amazing. It looks like Wasteland 3 had a baby with Weird West and I LOVE that. This looks like an absolute buy for me. Thanks for the review.
"Without it becoming a Wild West Brazzer's casting" 🤣🤣🤣 This is why I'm subbed to you.
Looks like a textbook example of excellent game design triumphing over raw graphical fidelity. I don't like ugly or graphically broken games, but the prettiest and smoothest game in the world can still only take it so far, the underlying *GAME* has to be good or it's not worth playing.
I think thats how a lot players feel now. You hear players talking less and less about the graphics of a game and more about the game itself. Especially with the rise of indie titles
I'm so glad they got rid of the "free attack when you run by" from the first game. It's so frustrating when the enemy gets free shot when you get close but you don't get to hit them back the same way.
This looks a lot more like what I was hoping Weird West would be like. I had no knowledge of Hard West until I watched this. I know you really liked Weird West, but I found it really shallow and repetitive. The added RPG elements deeper story, and turned base combat of Hard West 2 seems right up my alley. As always, thanks for the awesome review!
Same here. I left Weird West after act 3. I liked literally nothing about the game and was pushing through because of good opinions about it.
I feel that. Weird West was so incredibly disappointing that it has made me hesitant to even want to try this.
Wierd West is awesome.
If you want a better game than both of these, play Desperados 3
@@stonehorn4641 oh for sure, already bested Desperados and Shadow Tactics.
I had bought the first game on the Switch and then I realized you need the damn Hubble Space Telescope to be able to read anything. Lol
Thanks for another thorough and great review. You're one of my favorite channels on RUclips.
Another good notification! RUclips must have seen your post and took their thumb off the stupid button.
Probably and thanks for the heads up on getting it!
@@ACGreviews I actually went to your channel to see if anything new has come out over the past few weeks. That’s when I saw the post in the community section. RUclips needs to get their act together. Look at moving to alt tech if you haven’t already. I’m thinking about ending my RUclips premium and moving over to spending money on rumble.
@@ACGreviews I got notified of the short not the long review even though I resubbed as you mentioned
Cool! I had a lot of fun with the first Hard West. Nice to know time hasn't let the sequel turn sour.
I love that they have your review on their steam art
I thoroughly enjoyed the first game, but it has been a long time since I've played it. Hard West 2 also looks like an enjoyable experience as well. This is an easy purchase for me, despite some performance issues. Hard West 2 may not have the best visuals but that's perfectly fine because the gameplay more than makes up for it. Of course, I appreciate a game that has amazing graphics. However, gameplay will always take precedence over graphical fidelity. It doesn't matter how great a game looks if the actual gameplay is lackluster. Otherwise, thanks as always Karak for another honest, unbiased and detailed review! I really appreciate the continued hard work!
Thanks for the review as always, been looking forward to this despite not really having played the first one :D When you talk about that mission that was giving you some trouble I got some PTSD from that Exploding Drunkard, and I have a strong feeling it might be related to that section as it kicked my butt lol
I love your passionate take on this one, I love the style & vibe of it like "Weird West" which I just bought recently after stumbling onto your earlier review of it, planning on starting it this weekend!
I hope a game more along the lines of DOS2 in this world/setting/genre comes out. I love turn based combat, but I want it in a full on CRPG.
Another great video! Thank you. This just made my must play list because of your review.
Honestly the style of this reminds me of a lot of the Dark Tower novels
I hope they add an option to turn the (map / level) auto-scroll off. It's like they used that to make the cutscenes / et cetera more cinematic - and then forgot it on. It clearly can be turned off as it stops doing that, if you scroll the screen yourself, even a little bit. But having to do that all the bloody time, gets really really really annoying. | | | Also, there's a bug if you play it in a window: Exit & start again. It starts in a window - but the title screen = Back in full screen. Better hope you didn't choose a resolution, that your monitor doesn't support in full screen, as a window...
I loved the first game on Switch, I hope to play this one on Switch as well. Currently playing the extended story of Phantom Doctrine, a cold war conspiracy spy version of the tactics genre, by the same people. Over a hundred hours in that game, and you can often get Hard West 1 and Phantom Doctrine for 2 euro's each on a sale on Switch, among the better ways to spend 4 euro's if you like the genre and either setting.
Thanks for another great review. Hard West 2 shows that fresh ideas and a unique style can go a long way and outgun AAA titles in fun and entertainment. I love that they smashed the usual dance around the enemy parameter in round-based tactical games and allow a far more aggressive approach and new tactics. If nothing else, it sure feels far less tedious as similar titles sometimes do. One of the best games this summer.
Let's go! I was worried that not seeing more reviews of this title meant it had turned out to be a bit of a stinker. Glad that wasn't the case. IIRC the original Hard West was kinda clunky in that Euro jank way that sometimes puts me off games from smaller publishers, but this looks a bit more polished. Looking forward to finding time to dive into it!
after getting back into xcom2 this popped up on my feed and i decided for 26 bucks ill purchase it. ive only done the tutorial and a little bit of the wandering but i can say tat im excited to get home and hop back in. gave me the feel of xcom with a different taste to it as well.
Recently discovered Hard West (was on sale for like $1.99 on Switch) and was totally surprised by it. Ended up rebuying it on PC. Needless to say, HW2 has been on my watchlist since then.
ACG is one of my most trusted game reviewers. Karak gives you such an informative and detailed review, that a game like Hard West 2 (which I'd never heard of until watching the review short); Now has me instantly curious and wanting to try out the game.
ACG reviews have never let me down, and have saved me from making a potentially terrible purchase a few times in the past. Anyone who wants: informative, detailed, and honest reviews should consider subscribing.
Now I'm off to try out Hard West 2 😁
Great video ! I really don't play games like this but this setting and graphics is really grabbing me.
Will you add Steam Deck performance within your reviews in the future?
This makes me want to get back to beating Wasteland 3 looks just like that game but western
Another well produced review, thank you sir! Would you say that it's worth picking this one up over the first game if I haven't played either?
Bought it after yours and another YT review ! Super fun!!
I liked Hard West 1 quite a lot, it's nice to see the sequel is also great.
I wonder what you liked though. I bought it 90% off and did not like the game. There is no character personalization, as you play different toons every campaing. The skills are repetitive. The weapons are worthless and you get shot through walls as if they were made of thin air. Not to mention there is a lot of dialogs.
@@natzekai5108 I liked the setting and concept of the game world. The turn based combat was good and I don't remember ever being shot through any walls. I liked the card and artifact system it has going for character customization. I've always been a sucker for a wild west setting with occult vibes so it was right up my alley. It still breaks my heart Hunt Showdown doesn't have a single player campaign, that setting is really interesting.
@@mage0killer i want to give it a second chance but i deslike very much not having character progression
@@natzekai5108 the cards and items give you a level of progression but sure it's not a full fledged RPG. Not perfect but I really liked it for what it is.
Thanks for the review. This is going on the Wishlist.
Ey bro, i just saw this games banner on steam and then there is "ACG: BUY". Awesome. Congrats.
I had a blast with both Hard West Games and I hope there will be a Hard West 3, 4, 5, 6... etc. The Wild West with occult, supernatural etc. is a breath of fresh air. I liked the Scenarios from the first game, but I also enjoyed the Story of Gin Carter and his posse of Misfits! I hope the next one will bring back some of the older notable characters.
Not gonna lie, seeing the game start off with such a weird west sort of bang makes me wish I’d waited to buy this instead of the first one. Then again, I haven’t played much of the first game.
Glad to hear it’s good though. Your reviews are always so thorough and well done
Just going to start playing the first one so will definitely be getting this too
I can't think of a Western game I've not enjoyed from Sunset Riders through Outlaws, Red Dead, Stranger's Wrath and the original Hard West. Looks promising.
This has my attention. I’m currently playing Divinity Original Sin 2, and this looks like it would be great to transition to.
I almost want to play this if only to ride the Spider Ghost Train. Great in-depth review from one of the best in the business.
Can't wait for the next West game! EVIL WEST!
Any news if there will be a console port?
I'm looking at this or weird west. They look very similar but very different. This looks like the turn based scenario style game where weird west is more open world exploration and real time combat. Am I wrong? I'm leaning towards getting weird west. Which one did you prefer? This looks more in line with x-com and the original fallout games although it seems more scenario based like xcom. Weird west seems to allow for more exploration.
I literally just bought the first one on sale for 1.99 and I feel like I owe the devs more money cause it's fantastic.
I just want a cool western shooter!
@@wairen5020 I can't wait for Evil West! It looks so nice.
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is awesome if you haven't played it already.
Just looking at the great review, makes me wanna play the first game again to jump to this other one then
I always like seeing snow in games . the first one was really solid and original
.
Did you just say that this time around you get luck when the bullet misses you? It was so annoying to lose luck when enemy misses a shot.
Now we're talking! 🥳👍
Wonder if they got developers from Wasteland 3 team. This looks a lot more like Wasteland 4 than XCOM. Cannot wait to try it.
Not sure how to join chat during your podcast. Give “7 1/2 deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle”(book). And wanted to mention Prey on Hulu. New predator movie. 👍🏽
Thank you for this review. I'm currently playing the first Hard West on Xbox. Its fun and looking forward to this sequel.
Hopefully it eventually gets a console port like first game. :)
Looks interesting hope it comes to consoles.
When is this coming to consoles? This looks great!
What is the difference between hard West and weird West ?!
These two games look like an Antz and Bugs Life situation. Same theme, same art style, same UI, both have immersive sim elements, ... but one has turn based, one has action combat.
Hard West is more a tactics rpg, while Weird West was an action rpg. Both are unique but fun.
…and next month we have Evil West…so we will have Evil West, Weird West, and Hard West…and IRL we had the wild west. :)
Played first one on PS5 and it was excellent and a lot better than Weird West which I couldn't get into. Hope this ports over. Excellent review as always.
@@subq i forgot about Evil West.
Its like that year that Armageddon and Deep Impact came out around the same time. Both about meteors heading for earth. lol
Still have to play the first one... this review pushes it up my priority list!
I loved wasteland 3 thoroughly, and I imagine this game is right up my alley. I missed the first one, but I’ll check this one out. Hope it fills that x-com sized hole in my heart lol
any chance of a review on STRAY?
Bought it after your review. Tried to play it but it wouldn't load. Tried on steam deck and PC but same result. After searching a few people had this issue too without a way to resolve. I refunded. Might come back to it in the future on a sale. Shame really.
First game was great and no one talks about it. Looking forward to this one
Played the first and it had potential but was a bit creaky. Have been looking forward to a more polished sequel like this.
One thing I don't like about this entry so far is that the magical/weird/fantasy elements are much, MUCH more pronounced. In the original Hard West, it was all very mysterious, and aside from the fights with demons and some stuff towards the end, it was all much more toned down. You even pretty much meet Satan in that game, and he just looks like a normal, if slightly menacing guy. It gave the game a great atmosphere. There was always a strange and mysterious undercurrent, but it was never over the top. Combine that with the fact that there was only a single narrating voice in the entire game it resulted in something special. I'm a little sad that they went so overboard here.
But the game itself does look a lot better, even though I thought the original game was pretty good.
we need a wild west fantasy game. Filled with monster and folklore creatures. Kinda like Undead Nightmare dlc but fullblown game.
A western style , but in a game like pillars of eternity. That would be awesome.
Wild Arms
Thank you for saying Oregon correctly...
I respect your grind
Sounds cool! I got Hard West for free on on GoG but I never played it. The idea sounded neat but I couldn't be bothered to try it and it sounded mediocre anyway. This sounds a lot better, doubt I'll ever play it but well produced review.
Is this from the developers of Weird West? UI and graphics overall give huge WW vibe. That's not a bad thing. I really liked it overall.
Thanks for the video
I get this one mixed up with Weird West all the time lol.
If its closely to the first game when it comes to hours to complete the game ill give it 1/5.
I didn't even know there was a hard west to begin with let alone 2
The last game was pretty good. So I'm glad a sequel is here
More XCom or more Phoenix Point or more Shadow Run? All similar yet oh so different.
Played the demo and was immediately hooked. I was eagerly awaiting this, and I'm glad to hear that it kept being good well into the game.
Thanks for the great review Karak!
for me this is a must get
The lack of customization kills it for me. Damn.
Hard West 1 battles were great but in between battles was tedious and boring. I'm glad that Hard West 2 makes the non battle more fun than the first game.
"Wild West brazzers casting" hahaha 🏆
I hope the music is as good as hard west 1
Excellent review as always Karak....
Wow that was fast
PC exclusive?
theres no console port, but its not a pc exclusive. So a console port might comeout sometime
The first game was awesome, this one is even better
Karak Gushing
What is with these magic infused Western themed isometric games lately? There's this, Weird Wear, and I feel like I saw at least one or two other indie games recently with a similar theme.
Is this like waste land 3?
Can't believe someone else knows Deadlands...haha. where my Hucksters at?
No Coop - No money
Why are these games that aren't all that visually impressive not running well?
cuz optimation isnt directly just linked to how good the graphics are
@@bootmanbill2362 that makes sense, I just don't understand dev.. Looks like a damn fun game
Boggles my mind how a game this SIMPLIATIC can be so taxing on new gpu's
I no longer get notifications for your vids >=(
On another note, these guys really missed the opportunity to have their game called Hard West 2: West Harder
Part one is 2 bucks at the moment
if it's so good, why i find it hard to enjoy? combat seems very lacking..
Hard
Weird
Evil
Forbidden...
So many Wests. 😂
This is very very true
Kanye West still the best one.
@@user-gu5dv7vj8r nah
@@user-gu5dv7vj8r really lol you mean Ye 🤦
This went from a game in which I had no interest to one I might just have to play.
Thanks.
as soon as i'm done xenoblade 3 this is next.
