I like the new title cards you have for each section. Nice job!
Hey Karak, I picked up Trek to Yomi and I just want to point out to you that there is an option for English voices. It was under accessibility in the settings.
Delighted your channel has blown up to where it should be, my feelings toward you & your content has always been there for you bud! Now that I'm only 5 hours drive away in Meridian Idaho I would enjoy a road trip some time for a lunch visit when time permits of course. Thanks for reviews & impressions I look up to man!
I hope this brings back the trend of pre determined camera angles. There's a lot of artistic design that goes into how camera angles are set during game play
I was thinking the exact same thing as I'm playing now. There is a lot of control over the presentation when you can set the camera angles. Outside some of the jank, this game is gorgeous.
Reminds me of the old metal gear days
Style over substance, I love the aesthetic as a fan of Akira Kurosawa so it’ll definitely be a future purchase but not an immediate one.

"Remember, options are fine. They don't harm you."
Thank you lol
That’s the one thing I didn’t get.. I’m playing in English just fine?!?
2.5D games are so underrated. When done well, they are basically majestic in presentation.
Yes, but only though when the camera and controls work in harmony.
I loved Little Nightmares' visuals but maaan...the controls and camera started to piss me off 3/4 of the way through in the main campaign.
Agreed. Same with stuff like Metroid Dread and Ori.
@@sushigimme I never got a chance to play that one. I agree, these things need to be perfect.
@@Drstrange3000 Exactly. Ori was especially surprising. They had it perfect with amazing controls too.
What the hell is 2.5D? lol its 3d with different camera angles
"Resident Evil if that game happened during Ghost of Tsushima's timeframe". Onimusha Warlords?
The original is still a great game. It's unfortunate the series has been abandoned since the ps2.
Exactly!!!
I practically just wrote this word for word. lol
Need a return to this series before I die.
@@michaellahiton2481 Not really. It got a re-release on PS4 and Nintendo Switch. But yes, I would love another Onimusha game!
As a huge fan of Akira Kurosawa's films, Ghost of Tsushima and Limbo, Trek to Yomi is right up my alley. The game is gorgeous to look at and it's fun to play. It lasts around 5-6 hours and the price point is reasonable given its length. I've had my eye on Trek to Yomi ever since it was first announced. The wait was definitely worth it. Otherwise, thanks once again Karak for another honest, unbiased and detailed review! I really appreciate the hard work!
it's not fun to play it's the same thing over and over stun finish stun finish once you play it you'll understand how disappointing it is.
Check out sword of doom , it’s not Kurosawa but it’s fantastic
What did you think of the swordplay?
@@OODLESMCBOODELS Try different moves, theres a full move set for that reason, especially needed on higher difficulties,..the game was excellent,..disappointed is not a word that should ever be used on this game
Exactly what I was hoping for, unique is a genre simply doesn’t get the spotlight enough. Thanks ACG.
I read this 20 times and still have no clue what you’re saying
@@jonr7364 forgot 'simply that doesn't'

@@edmundmondo1682 yes, obviously
Hadn't heard of this but this is absolutely gorgous to look at. I'll be getting this at some point.
It's on Game Pass
If it's on gamepass, chances are it's open for options to be on PS+++. But, if you want to support directly pick it up on sale.
Okay so? I don't have game pass.🤦
repetitive as hell and also some enemies are just down right unbalanced.
@@OODLESMCBOODELS just like the review said - it's more about presentation and story rather than combat
May not read this, but I truly think you put in the work with your videos. I don't have to agree with what you say. But i believe no independent reviewer on RUclips works as hard as you do. And I appreciate your work.
Thanks for the recommendation dude love the style of the video I'm going to pick this one up i was definitely on the fence before.
ACG, thanks for not including spoilers! This is why you're the best reviewer. I still get to find out if the boy is actually packing a monster between his legs.
I'm also enjoying that you put a censor bar over a massive would be dong in a game made by a studio called Flying Wild Hog.

Bro the editing in your videos has gotten so good. Fuck. So smooth and all the transitions we're perfect. Never jarring. Never seemed out of place. Another great review. 👍
Have Game Pass and plan to play through this title this weekend. As always, great review and thanks!!
Love your reviews ACG. The horizon dawn forbidden west graphics video was really really gd. Thanks and keep it up mate.
Neighbors: 'Karak over there torturing somebody again... Must be a Thursday...'
Man this checks out as a comment
I have to add on about a problem with the collectibles. Collectibles are a great feature in a game, but the main problem with them in Trek to Yomi, there is no chapter selection. This means if you miss 1 single collectible in the final chapter of the game you will have to play thorugh the game all over again just to get it. You will also have to get the others ones back as well. I think that this discourages a 100% in the game because of how it discourages you knowing that if you miss one, you have to start over if you mess up.
This is why I love and will always support this channel. I never heard of this game and would have missed out if not for this honest review. Best review channel period.
What spam is this?
"Options are good, they don't harm you." I wish more players could understand this before posting. Thanks again ACG for a wonderful review!
are you seeing a disproportionate ammount of players who go around saying options are bad to have?
@@Yura-Sensei sometimes maybe on more niche games
@@Yura-Sensei Definitely whenever it comes to dubs, resolution options and controller support on PC
@@HeinSmit1 I have never seen anyone saying they dont want resolution, language options, or that they dont want controller support? Holy shit, what kind of gaming circles are you hanging around?
@@Yura-Sensei Yes, if I ask if a game is in English I get hounded sometimes.
Good unbiased review man… you always nail it… this isn’t a AAA game, you need to sort of “filter” that… this game is amazing, I like it and I’m happy to see some reviewers are being fair to the fact that is not AAA games and it has its failures but shines in many other aspects!

Bought it for 18 bucks on PSN. Can’t wait to dive in!
Devolver is easily my #1 publisher right now. Has been for a while. Another clear winner right here.
THANK YOU, not for this review but for bringing up Pandemonium. When I was a kid I used to sit and watch an old family friend play this on his computer and I've always wondered what the game was called because there is so much nostolgia behind it. I spent some time searching through old 90's pc games to find gameplay of it but was never able to pinpoint what game it was, until now!
Aaaahhhhh, (sigh of relief!!!!)....
Ive been anticipating the arrival of this game SO MUCH!
Im reallyhappy to hear ur opinion on this dude!!
Gonna go play as soon as ive come around!!!
As soon as I saw this, I pre-ordered it. Glad to know it's also receiving positive reviews.
Trek to Yomi released 5am here in Fiji and I played a bit of it before I had to head off to work, but I was absolutely in love with it. I'm a huge fan of Kurosawa and was actually watching a bunch of old Samurai movies the past week or so because I was researching for a project I'm doing and this game just nails the the feel of those movies so well. The look alone is worth it for me. Great review as always. Bula from Fiji.
I have been waiting for this one, since ghost of tsushima isn't on pc....huge fan of kurosawa's work
These reviews continue to impress, thanks ACG
I thought Ghosts of Tsushima was gonna be the definitive Kurosawa gaming experience, but it did it's own thing (in a good way). This game is what I initially thought Ghost was gonna be. From the black & white visuals, framing of scenes, and the dialogue/interaction of all characters. Playing this game should be a must for fans of classic Samurai cinema.
Later edit (after completion): The game takes you on a journey to hell loaded with elements of Japanese mythology. I enjoyed every moment of it just to see what the Devs had to show next. There is a decided lack of enemy variety and encounter design in the latter chapters, but adjusting the difficulty allows for management of frustration. The game is more than the sum of its parts and for the asking price, fair.
@acg: the English language dub option is under the "Accessibility" menu.
This game caught my eye from the first. I was just waiting for your review to buy it (I never pre-order) and just did that. Looking forward to playing this. Thanks for all your hard work, Karak!
your gonna be Hella dissapointed
This game is truly an artistic achievement in video games. Absolutely stunning.
Great review piece. For what it’s worth, I got this for free just now as a PS Plus subscriber, and there IS an option at this point in time to use English dubbing.
Love your channel, your videos and the before you buy videos are the go to videos for game reviews
Wonderfully informative review, as always! I have already pre-downloaded this and cannot wait to jump in. The direction looks absolutely stunning.

The POWER of monochrome! Love it.
Helpful review as always.
oOoh! first for the first time! ACG you’re the man!
Oh fantastic! An ACG review for lunch break! Thank you!
Finally, after all these years, it's Karateka 2!
Im someone that likes deep combat systems and not to big on story but this is a game that I actually want to experience the story and atmosphere more and think how the combat scenarios are handled fit this game well. You really do feel like you're in a classic film and I'm enjoying it right now.
As usual, you are my most trusted reviewer. If you love great graphics and presentation with a good story and can forgive average gameplay, this is a buy.
I rely on the page for its thoroughness. I subscribed to the page to hear about games I didn't know were happening.
I just got both.
I love that they handled the Ghost of Tsushima weight and the moving camera to track the action. Excellent review. Thank you ACG
Thanks for the review as always, had my eye on this but was not sure of it as most gameplay shown was of the combat which didn't look too convincing. Played a little bit and looks like they added in an optional English voice option, I enabled it and thought the intro section as youngsters had some rough spots with the voice acting. Switched to Japanese and it was a bit too high pitched for my liking. After the intro chapter I switched over to Japanese again with subtitles as the English acting was a bit inconsistent. Guy will come wailing about his village then calmly as if it was a separate recording state he was from so and so before resuming the wailing tone.
So yeah I might not understand Japanese either but it does feel a lot more consistent and less jarring than the English. Pretty entertaining so far though, combat is pretty easy, I'd suggest anyone reading this to probably look into playing on hard as normal is pretty much a breeze if you nail the parry timing as well as baiting an enemy attacking you outside of their range
I like the game so far. However, as the battles become more intricate with multiple enemies popping in and out, the controls are not fluid and not responsive. There seems to be some cheap shots from the enemies that can yield a lot of damage, creating a sense of the mechanics not being fairly balanced.

Tip of the hat for the comedic censor bar, well done sir.
I feel like we have an over abundance of good to great games (but few excellent) and there is just not enough time or interest to play them all.. which is why I prioritize art style and story more than anything when deciding. While a game might be fun, if I can't relate or it's not very unique then the experience isn't as good. With that said, I am really interested in giving this a try.
Just been playing this on gamepass absolutely amazing looking and feeling game.
Really excited for this game. The art style looks so awesome
It's nice that you mentioned Pandemonium here. I figured nobody else really played that game.
Definitely gonna pick this up because I need a nice short but quality title that I can enjoy and beat around 5 to 6 hours. Thanks for the review ACG
Another great and insightful review. Thanks ACG!
Im playing this and Sifu at the moment, what a treat
I've been loving this game, the artistic approach is kinda nostalgic and even more so with the old samurai style movie feel.
I'd be really into if they brought these still camera angles back with a hair of more depth. Imagine horror games with these angles and next gen graphics to invoke certain feelings. This approach to the game was perfect and you feel what they were going for.
Excellent review, thank you. Looking forward to playing this one!
I'm downloading it right now. can't wait to check it out this weekend.
How is it? Does the gameplay detract?
awww, Pandemonium, that's a name I haven't heard in a long time!
Loved both of them back in the PS1 days
Wait.... Did you just say Myspace? Holy crap what a blast from the past that sent me on. Kinda fitting for an old style black and white artistic rendition of a new age 2D game. This game looks amazing by the way! Thanks for the review!
This is a buy for me just for the visuals. The gameplay will be a bonus.
This is on Gamepass as well. Can’t wait to try this one out!
I really feel bad I had to buy it on PS4 😭 gamepass is rocking indie games
@@banjax-fgc dont feel bad your still supporting the devs

he already mentioned that in the beginning of the video
I was going to play it anyway but, I still like to here your opinion.
Oh man, I've been waiting MONTHS for this thing!!!!!!!
Controls feel a little delayed, I think it is on purpose though to feel weighted, beautiful game though. Story is a very simplistic samari tale.
Really liking the new layout for your recent reviews. I heard on the podcast that May was abit dry, maybe some more indie game reviews? Godlike Burger??
A rose for billy and the hugs he lost
Another great review 👍🏻 I would love to see you cover Rouge Legacy 2. Silent Masterpiece imo. 👍🏻
Can i give you some feedback from a typographical information pro perspective? 1. Caps are harder to read than small letters and when letters exceeds a certain size relative to the background they become more complicated to interpret on the fly . 2 Humans looking at a rectangular surface have like a centered oval perception area. Corned info is much less effective and require a move from main to supportive narrative and therefore provide a conflict. 3. If 1 and 2 don't apply there's a need for increased display time. Other than that, loving your work :D
It definitely has a very unique look and feel to the graphics and game play. I love games with a good story and this one is interesting. I will have to check it.
Love your reviews man most games I watch these before buying. I never even heard of this game. Looks absolutely fantastic definitely gonna buy it
Kurosawa meets Onimisha…now I really want that movie
I haven't seen movies like this, but I bet subtitles could have been more like theirs, I can agree.
Style and art sure, but let me switch the colors on and HDR too, cuz idc, I wanna see I "all', colors, details, photorealism always, just have more options even if they go against your vision...
I’ve been eyeball deep in Elden Ring since release still….but this may be worth a brief divert!
@@iHaveTheDocuments
Same here bro.
Easily the best game released since Witcher 3… and as a GAME… it’s far…. Far better.
I know people usually jump the gun saying the latest big release is one of the best games ever made but… Elden Ring is simply one of the best games ever made. It’s a massive leap forward for the industry. It’s the game that open world design was made for. No other game has such dense quality for so many hours. Not to mention how the game promotes player agency and doesn’t hold your hand.
It’s just awesome. And it is the new industry standard as far as I’m concerned.
Love your videos man! Looking forward to the livestream tomorrow.
I really want to see a modern rpg with this kind of aesthetic in color.
that's cool that it's flying wild hog, i didn't know that. as garish and over the top (in a good way lol) as some of the level and character design in the shadow warrior games was, you could see they were obviously guided by the whole samurai kind of visual aesthetic. will be interesting to them do just that straight up with out all the wackiness of shadow warrior
I enjoyed the review and will definitely be sharing this on MySpace😅
Geocities
glad this is on gamepass can't wait to play it. Might have to take a break from Elden Ring.
I loved this game! The art style is unmatched and is protected in a way that everybody needs to see! The combat really picked up on the harder difficulties as well imo.
Is this PS5 winner a scam? 🤔I almost contacted them! 😱
Game looks like a Kurosawa movie at points. Definitely piquing my interest.
I am all about this. Love the look and the visuals. Happy its on game pass. Ty for the review. Always great.....
@1:32 ah... Pandemonium! I loved that game! Good memories. Embracer group likes to remake older games, and now that they own crystal dynamic, I wonder if that's possible, but I also wonder if Crystal dynamic owns the rights or is it toys for Bob? Which means it would be up to Microsoft, assuming the Activision deal goes through.
Would comparing it to Hellblade : Senua's Sacrifice but in 2D be fair ? Very cinematic experience and exceptional atmosphere, no full freedom but meaningful exploration, not a lot of combat but still definitely not a walking simulator.
After playing it for an hour yes to all your points but it's not 2D it's just side scrolling.
Neighbors think your torturing someone? Ha. I use video games to cover for me when I am.
Worth a download on gamepass atleast
Thank you man going to download this for Saturday
I'll be checking it out. I think of it as if Onimusha took more influence from movies like Yojimbo.
This is a visual masterpiece. Thanks for the review ACG.
Resident Evil happening in Ghost of Tsushima's time frame? Like Onimusha, also from Capcom.
dunno why it proper reminds me of my love Onimusha
Great r/v.
My favourite gaming channel by far.
Btw the earth is flat, don’t hate the playa!
The moment I saw this on Steam I thought Kurosawa.
Woow pandemonium shoutout. That took me so long to find after i had forgotten the title from childhood
PANDAMONIUM!!! Loved that as a kid! Trek to Yomi looks great but I can't get the timing down on parries to save my life. I'm a master parry player on Dead Cells but again on trek to yomi I'm just not getting consistency. Damn, I miss the 90s. Pandamonium and Gex Enter the Gecko we're my "jam". Plus 90s music is the pinnacle of music in my opinion. It was the perfect environment for amazing pop culture and I doubt we will ever see that again on our lifetimes.
After the intro i already knew this was my kind of game. Last game that made me feel like that was Naritaboy... But i don't know if it will stay fun after completing it
Love it. Great content as always.
