I would like to praise Andrew for his exceptional ability to explain complex applications and contexts in a simple and understandable way. Thanks to his tutorials, I was able to quickly perfect my knowledge of how to use Cubase efficiently. His clear and precise way of imparting knowledge is really impressive and has helped me a lot. Thank you Andrew for your great work! Eugène
Thanks for this. This is really an object lesson in perspective. I've been an engineer for 35+ years, I came from tape so my workflow has always been based around careful gain staging, because back then you had to. I've been spending way too much time messing with the outputs of samplers/VSTs to make sure they hit my meters at -18 dBVU. Just finding the master output on some VST instruments can be a chore at times if you're not using them everyday. All good practice...but...what I missed is that because the signal path is 64bit, as long as the VST isn't clipping internally, it's much faster to just gain the output using the pre gain on the channel, that way your signal is healthy before it hits the inserts etc. This method is way way faster.
I'd say the Gain is the Input Volume of the track while the fader controls the Outpout Volume. And you're right, Gain Staging is super important. The gain can also be managed directly on audio events, and it is not exactly the same behavior.
hi Eric,, yes, you are correct, with a viable point of view, you always have good and thoughtful perspectives to share,,, for me personally its become,, pre gain is the course tune volume and faders are the fine tune volume,,,, andrew
This was absolutely wonderful. Thank you. I hope the Halion goes on sale. The drag and drop from it doesn't work with the free version, but I can work around that until I can purchase the full. Thank you so much, Cubase is becoming a monster in my eyes..loving this.
hi grobin, I just wanted to share that everything in this video was done with the free Halion Sonic 7 that comes with Cubase 13.. if you want to tell me more about what drag and drop operation you are referring to, maybe I can clarify it for you, but for sure I wanted you to know you dont need the full Halion to do whats demonstrated here... andrew
@@TheDigitalAudioManual Thank you so much for the reply. I went back through your video, and what I noticed was the fact that I didn't have certain categories showing, such as 'Content Set'. That section for some reason confused the devil out of me. It took me a whole 5 minutes to get it together, reorder some things and follow what you did. The 'dragging' of the five instruments onto the track, creating five different instruments, was were I was stuck. Today i got it! Thank you so much for these videos. After I go thru this video, I'm heading back to your site. Again, thank you for the response.
dang sharp....took a while to get e'thing understood...just a couple of things not as were in yer clip on my 13, but got there....one of the best, or at least freshest sessions i've had in cubase in a long time...(given that i work in a genre that rarely pushes into iconica sketch. loved this; the real value is when you get your own composition up n' running....

Hi Andrew, Great tutorial , however, on explode section mine is not working it crentes the 3 tracks but it is empty no event , i tried more than 10 times looks like it is bug from Steinberg.

I'm trying to follow this using 12, but it's difficult as it doesn't have the chord pad toolbar. I got the correct chords on the pads easy enough, but there's no step input button in 12, so not sure how to get around that...
hi peter,, I do have the full Halion on my system, so it may have peeked in there somewhere,, but I idi all the work with the included Halion Sonic 7,, ,,, all the best andrew
Geezus. Masterclass. (and pace) The school everyone wants to be taken to.
Now I can confirm that I don't know cubase at all 😅😅 what is happening in this channel is mind blowing. I salute
It's amazing! Thank you, AB!
I recently started experimenting with expression maps and the combination with the flex phraser takes it to another level. Thank you very much :)

hi stephen,, finding what works for us is always the challenge,,, thank you for your comments,, andrew
Yeah, I always pre-gain -10 for each channel to get things started. It is quite essential tip really to get the gain to make any sense.
Awesome content. Thanks 🙏🏿
