    My tip is to stop house work BEFORE you reach your limit and feel exhausted. When you tell yourself "I still have more energy, maybe I should tackle this", NO. STOP immediately. This way you have energy for other stuff and you dont resent the work. And you're motivated the next day.

    I bet your house is spotless, sparkling clean at any given time.
    I know what it's like to live with hoarders who make messes and don't pick up after themselves and constantly bring more junk into the house. In that situation, it takes more than 5 minutes a day. It's impossible to keep the house clean when you're living with people like that. But I agree, when you live with normal people, 5 minutes a day should be all it takes.

      My husband has an issue with letting go of ANYTHING. I gave up on changing him after 15 years. I dedicated an entire closet for his junk and all his clothes and when he leaves stuff around, I through it in that closet out of my sight. He knows where to find it now. One year I took out all his junk and put it in one big pile and said I was "deep cleaning". He realized how big the problem is and threw away lots of stuff. But he went back to his habbits. If I had a spare room, I would dedicate it to his stuff and keep it locked.

    If I’m watching tv at night (and I hadn’t DVRd it) I’ll get up during the commercials and pick up, clean up some things. It’s amazing what you can get done in 3-5 min. 👍🏻
    This morning I washed the filter on my window AC unit and took the front off to clean it too. Nothing worse than dusty air recirculating. Yuck.

    Using phone calendar to regularly "schedule" days for ALL household tasks: towels, sheets, blankets, rugs, bathrooms, floors, lawn mowing. Also make note of maintenance items like changing HVAC filters, freezer defrost, gutters, stain the decks, etc. Everything is on a rotation, number of days, weeks, months. This avoids overwhelm. If you want to skip or reschedule, the calendars are easy to edit. Life is good. We do what we can at a pace we can handle. Love your channel, Dawn!

    you are well organized and efficient, I do my routine in the morning while the coffee is brewing, small house, use my dust mop (washable head) and go over the floors, small load of laundry each day, wipe down the stove after cooking, and my rule is to try to handle items once, put them where they belong the first time, when I'm chatting on the phone I'll take my swifter duster and use it, and after my morning shower, I freshen up the bathroom, my mother wouldn't let us leave the house (unless it was an emergency) until the house was neat and the beds made:)

  • @wandacarr668
    @wandacarr668 Месяц назад +11

    When I was a kid, I'd set a timer, turn on the radio, and I would grab a cardboard box and go through the rooms, putting the clutter in the box. It was instant gratification to see flat surfaces. Our house was small. My parents and siblings laughed at my cleaning technique, but it worked, and I had fun doing it.

  • @yellowbird5411
    @yellowbird5411 Месяц назад +16

    One of the fastest ways to make a place look organized is to "group" items. If you have a bunch of stuff on the counter, grouping them by category is great. In the kitchen, grouping might mean spices in one group, bananas/fruit/bread/snacks in another group, dishes in another group. Even unrelated things can be grouped. It keeps things corralled, and it frees up counter/floor/dresser space. You'll be amazed. I read that tip online on YT. I used to have a friend who didn't know the word "housekeeping." But he kept "things" organized. While the surfaces were two inches deep in dust, the house was organized. A house can't be "clean" if there is stuff all over the place, because you can't clean under it unless you pick it up.
    The five minute rule is great, as it can be done at any time and when the mood strikes.

      The dumpster doesn’t have to be that huge. I have a daily task that I call a BAG and a RAG . I have to fill one bag with trash or donations every day ,the bag gets smaller as time goes on. The rag part began as I like a fresh dish cloth each time I do dishes but I don’t like to ‘waste’ the not so dirty cloth. I find something to wipe down and clean until my cloth is dirty enough to earn a washing. Less things limit how big the mess can get.

Example; I have been collecting how-to books. I get one here and 2 there. The book toyes are VERY heavy and at the bottom of stacks. I won't dig them out until I have enough books to make it worthwhile.

    My lazy way to clean is to put on a movie or show I've seen that has commercials. I'll clean during the commercials. Usually, I'll get involved with cleaning and go past the commercial, but it's okay because I've seen the movie. Keeping flat surfaces cleared or items in a basket or on a tray makes dusting and cleaning so much easier. My daughter-in-law said that her cleaning lady didn't dust the shelf with their DVDs on it. I told her she picks her battles, and it takes longer to remove the DVDs and dust than if she got some baskets to store them. She bought baskets and had clean shelves. The older I get, the less energy I have for major cleaning projects. I'm able to break most jobs into smaller jobs. I've not used the 5-minute timer, but it's a great idea. You always have terrific ideas! Love to all, Linda 💕

The spay and polish are pricey, and they say that's all you can use on it. I started using Windex or soapy water, because if you read the back ingredients of that " Special Spray " it's got the same ingredients as Windex. The polish I can't find a replacement for. Housework is always a struggle because I'm not the maid, but I have higher standards than my slob of a brother. In our home the loser gives up on the mess first and loser cleans. I hate always being the loser!

    I just realized this week after having to vacuum and clean the floors I need to break it down in to parts. Try to do something every few days. That way it won't get so dusty or dirty and I won't get exhautsed doing it all at once.
