Amazing video :). My console is coming and this came out at the perfect time. I have one question: can I use a 64gb sd card for the OS? I only have 64 and 128 sd cards...
Hello Javi, great video, it helped a lot. However, I have a problem, I have an rg35xx PLUS, I downloaded the 16gb file and did everything as you said, but on the first SD card there is neither the .config file nor the bios file. Consequently, the coremapping.json note does not exist. What could I be doing wrong?
im wondering why anbernick does not make a pretty and easy firmware... also I am wondering if batocera is a better option? i just bought this handheld and idk what to do
@@joelgrebinsilvestri , Personally i would down load the stock OS and use that it's the better performance overall , Batocera is good and pretty bit anything over PS1 just isn't there performance wise yet IMO .
I recently bought a RG35xx+ and im wondering what you would recommend. The stock OS or Batocera lite. Checked the Github page and since Feb there is not much movment. As my unit still needs to be delivered and im fairly new to this handheld stuff, if was wondering if you have a preference. Oh and one more thing. Are there any restrictions regarding that SD Card, i mean size wise? Can you also go with a 512GB SD? Will defenitly have to change the OS or reinstalll it as my unit is from Geekbuying, so im pretty sure there will be chinese involed in the names :D

@@JaviPlayRetroso my games all loaded and I can see and play them. But the option to select between the 2 microsd cards don’t show up? 🤷🏻♂️ think it’s a big deal? lol
@Johnniibeanasmr i think you're on the new update. Anbernic removed the apps section in the first sd card on the new update. That's why you dont see it.
@Johnniibeanasmr On one hand its better because its just one less screen between you and your games. On the other hand you dont have the apps folder that has some handy features.
Thank you for this guide ! Quick question: I already have games on my Stock card (with saves) so I should not need Tiny best set right ? If I understood corectly, I just have to copy/paste my ROM and Save folder somewhere on my PC before updating the Firmware, then when the 1st booting is done, I just have to drag&drop these folders back on the SD card ? As simple as that ??
I’ve installed the latest firmware 1.1.5 to a single SD card and notice there’s 45 unallocated space which I can’t use to extend the main partition. The flashed main partition is empty and it’s already 1.9 GB free space with is not enough. Is it really unusable and I should’ve just but another SD card to put all of my games it is there a workaround where I can just use single SD card? Update: Just realize there's a disclaimer in Anbernic's Firmware Download page about it does impossible to extend the partition. Guess I might just buy a dedicated 16GB card then
I tried this but it didn't work for me. It took around 10 hours to flash the new firmware image to the new SD card (fornatted to FAT32) then when it eventually finished I put it in the device (along with the second card) and powered it on and all I got was a blank screen.
Great tutorial, I did it step by step and was successful. Would you happen to know off other sites where I can get good, working ROMs like the one you suggested. I tried installing a few PS1 and PSP games but they don't start up for me. Any information would be appreciated.
very helpful but i do have one question - when preparing the 2nd sd card, you format the whole thing for FAT32 and leave the partition empty, but then, when you open it up on your PC during step 6, it shows similar directory structure to SD card 1. Is there something I am missing?
Hi, great guide thanks. New user here who understands the basics of Retroarch on PC. Anyone know why Autosave State and Autoload State won't work on my RG35XX H?
Can i copy all my pre installed sd card games into my new sd card? the sd card that comes with the console, can I copy and paste all games to my new one???? or I need to download all new rooms I wanna know if that's safe or not thanks
The 64GB is for a single card setup and comes with all the games and boxart from Anbernic. But you can't increase the size and youll have to delete stuff to make room for your games.
Anbernic really needs to comply with the GPL and release their kernel sources. I'm running CFW on mine, and it's great... but there's kernel level stuff which needs fixing and that can't happen without source. Their hardware is really held back by their refusal to cooperate with the community.
Hi Just a question. Is it possible to change the OS using a smartphone (Android) ? I have no PC and I’d like to put Batocera on my RG35XX-H but I don’t know how to do or even if it’s possible. Thank you 😘
after the instalation i got a black screen and no ambernic logo. And its not responding to anything, charguing light is orange but im not getting anything from screen. Any solutions?
Thank you very much for this. I foolishly flashed my card with garlic os not knowing that it deletes everything on the card so I lost my saves and everything and to top it all off my rg35xx h didn’t boot with garlic os anyways. Very frustrating
Thank you for your tutorial, I followed the procedure with a 64 gigabyte card, it was worked but it transformed my SD card into a 4 GB card... I tried with another 64 GB card and that also transformed it into 4 GB 😮 so I don't have room to add more lot games because there is just 3 Go, because I just installed the version with the software, there is no games, do you know how I could fix the problem please ?
Now I do appreciate you trying to help the community. You really shouldn't use the stock image off of Anbernic, highly suggest looking modded stock images instead. Also, there is no need to format the SD card that you will use Rufus on. The imaging process does this for you. Your process is right for the 2nd card, but use exFAT over FAT. As some, if not most likely will use bigger then 64gb card for ext storage. Highly recommend looking at modded stock images.
For simplicity and as per manual instructions I went with FAT32 for TF2. Also I considered making this video too but I know not everyone wants a modded stock OS. I will see if I create another video about that modded version.
@PauloSantos-yc2fx exfat doesnt have a size limit and can read and written to from all systems like mac windows and android. FAT32 has a max file size of 4GB
@NicksMind21 You can use both. It just doesn't say anything about it in the manual. I try to follow what Anbernic says. It is their software, after all.
@@ROFLMAOwithExtraCheese i just bought mine RG35XX PLUS ... what should I do?i got a 128 Samsung micro sd card so do i need another sd card? and should i install batocera or just this one that this guy shows on the video? do u know? its because I'm new its my first time and i don't know what to do pleeease! thanks a lot man
@@joelgrebinsilvestri You only need one card. Copy the ROM and BIOS folders off the card that came with the device to your computer. The card that comes with the device is garbage so install whatever OS you are using (Batocera or whatever) to a different quality card.
You can youll have to download the 64GB version. This will come preloaded with everything. However, this will strictly be 64GB. Also if you want to put your own games youll have to delete the ones it comes with to make space for yours.
Also I dont recommend a single card setup becuase Anbernic will likely release another update, and that way, you dont have to load all the games again.
Thank for another great video. Just one question...i use batocera but would like to run the stock at least until a non beta version of batocera releases. Will the second mem card i have the games on still work with stock or do I need to reformat and add the games again?
I need help, so I downloaded the 16gb file, idc for the Roms, I flashed it onto a single 64gb sd card, when I go to put Roms onto it I can’t as it’s shrunk my sd card to 4.19gb is there a way I can get it back to 64gb?
You need 2 micro sd cards. This is a 2 card setup. If you only have one card, you'll have to download the 64GB version with the games and delete all the games after flashing
@@JaviPlayRetro This is incorrect. Single card setup works fine with the 16 GB image. If OP plugs the card into PC and opens Mini Tool Partition magic they will see the 4.19 GB partition as well as a 45 GB unallocated space. OP needs to format this unallocated space to exFat and add create a drive letter. Once done Plug the card into the console and reboot console once. Upon reboot the console will create the folders in the new 45Gb partition. OP can them plug the card back into PC and will see Roms folder in the 45 GB partition. This is where Op can add the games.
Does the bios folder only create itself after the SD card is inserted into the system and booted for the first time? I haven't got my device yet, I'm just preparing everything for when I do get it. I just flashed the stock OS onto the first SD card and there is no bios folder. Just wanted to make sure. Thank you for the video!
Can i use a single sd setup with this tutorial? I have a 128gb sd. Also like you said in the older tutorial do i still need to resize or extend the partitions for it to go over 64gb? I'm planning to use the normal up to date stock OS
I'm currently running an older version of the stock firmware (20231221) with 2x SD cards. Do I still need to do the process for the 2nd SD card, wipe all games, just to recopy them back on? Or can I just do the firmware update on SD1 and leave SD2 in there? Thanks.
Hi Javi, thanks for this explanation. Helped a lot, I couldn't stand keeping the stock card on my RG35xx plus (if there is anything wrong with it). I have now partly managed it, but I have a number of problems: it seems as if nothing can be saved (such as favorites), but RetroArch also gives problems: when starting a game I get an error message: failed saving config file to /.config /retroarch/retroarch.cfg and warning: missing assets, use the Online Updater if available and Deeplay-keys (1/1) not configured. Also when I press the MENU key I cannot use the keys to navigate through the RA menu. Hope you can help me out here :)
You really don't need to do the first bit i.e formatting the card. Your imaging tool (Blena, rufus etc) handles all that when you are flashing the image onto your card.

@@moores2009 I have been doing research on this and it turns out you don't need the bios folder there the games never pick it up from there anyway thats why the folder has been removed from that location. Amazing video :). My console is coming and this came out at the perfect time. I have one question: can I use a 64gb sd card for the OS? I only have 64 and 128 sd cards...
Yeah, you can use 64Gb. That's fine
Great video. I personally prefer Batocera but this is still really useful
thanks, i appreciate the help
It's very useful Thank you
Hello Javi, great video, it helped a lot. However, I have a problem, I have an rg35xx PLUS, I downloaded the 16gb file and did everything as you said, but on the first SD card there is neither the .config file nor the bios file. Consequently, the coremapping.json note does not exist. What could I be doing wrong?
I have the same problem
Got both my plus and H running this firmware admittedly it's not the prettiest but easily the better performing FW .
im wondering why anbernick does not make a pretty and easy firmware... also I am wondering if batocera is a better option? i just bought this handheld and idk what to do
@@joelgrebinsilvestri , Personally i would down load the stock OS and use that it's the better performance overall , Batocera is good and pretty bit anything over PS1 just isn't there performance wise yet IMO .
Great one! As a Mac user, I wonder if there any way to do the same thing on mac? Thanks a lot!
lifesaver!!!!
Good video bro, nice and clean tutorial could u please make the video for the box art thks bro👊

Tq man..mine just corrupted.. tq 4 d simple instructions.. sub
I followed your steps but when I boot it up with both MicroSD cards put in, I don't see the 2nd Sd like you do when you went into the "Game Room." Did I do something wrong? It's 128GB
Did you load it with your games?
@@JaviPlayRetro adding in the games now on the 2nd SD card. About to plug it in 🤞🏼 I just noticed you already had that option pop up on the first boot
I am having issues doing the stock firmware on a 353v do you have a video on that model
Thanks!
Thank you 👾👾👾
Thank you for this guide !
I have the same problem
@@thijssleven1625 I sold the device and never got another.
Great tutorial, I did it step by step and was successful. Would you happen to know off other sites where I can get good, working ROMs like the one you suggested. I tried installing a few PS1 and PSP games but they don't start up for me. Any information would be appreciated.
Thank you 🙏
very helpful but i do have one question - when preparing the 2nd sd card, you format the whole thing for FAT32 and leave the partition empty, but then, when you open it up on your PC during step 6, it shows similar directory structure to SD card 1. Is there something I am missing?
Hi, great guide thanks. New user here who understands the basics of Retroarch on PC. Anyone know why Autosave State and Autoload State won't work on my RG35XX H?
Can i copy all my pre installed sd card games into my new sd card? the sd card that comes with the console, can I copy and paste all games to my new one???? or I need to download all new rooms
I wanna know if that's safe or not
thanks
you can copy.. it's safe .
Good video but where do you get your wallpaper?
Nice to see stock updates from Anbernic! So what is the 64gb update file?? lol that seems like a lot for the tf1 card…
What is CFW?
@@folksurvival Custom firmware, like Knulli.
@@ToyKeeper Oh yeah, custom firmware. For some reason I thought you were referring to a specific one. Duh moment.
Hi
Just a question. Is it possible to change the OS using a smartphone (Android) ?
I have no PC and I’d like to put Batocera on my RG35XX-H but I don’t know how to do or even if it’s possible.
Thank you 😘
play retro!!! great intro :D
after the instalation i got a black screen and no ambernic logo. And its not responding to anything, charguing light is orange but im not getting anything from screen. Any solutions?
Please, make a tutorial for the box art!
Why use exFat for de 2 sd?
@PauloSantos-yc2fx exfat doesnt have a size limit and can read and written to from all systems like mac windows and android. FAT32 has a max file size of 4GB
To be honest, brother, your reply to me mentioned something about some manual. The manual is wrong then. Like I said, we should be using exFAT.
@NicksMind21 You can use both. It just doesn't say anything about it in the manual. I try to follow what Anbernic says. It is their software, after all.
Hi Javi, thanks for your tutorial.
Is it possible use only ONE sd card? like Batocera, MuOS etc...
Yes you can use only one card. This is how they ship it.
@@ROFLMAOwithExtraCheese i just bought mine RG35XX PLUS ... what should I do?i got a 128 Samsung micro sd card
so do i need another sd card? and should i install batocera or just this one that this guy shows on the video? do u know? its because I'm new its my first time and i don't know what to do pleeease!
thanks a lot man
@@joelgrebinsilvestri You only need one card.
Hey Javi, great vid, like always, quick question : my SFC games won't launch via Retro Arch anymore, any clue? (i use 2 cards set up)
4:10 the . Rare files is not popping up so i can 7zip it. What do i do? Thank you for your content
Having the same issue after extraction it shows another zip file no rar or img files
did everything but after installing the image RG35xxh 2400417 it would always turn my sd card to 4gb why is that?
Well done sir
Thank for another great video. Just one question...i use batocera but would like to run the stock at least until a non beta version of batocera releases. Will the second mem card i have the games on still work with stock or do I need to reformat and add the games again?
thats exactly my question
I need help, so I downloaded the 16gb file, idc for the Roms, I flashed it onto a single 64gb sd card, when I go to put Roms onto it I can’t as it’s shrunk my sd card to 4.19gb is there a way I can get it back to 64gb?
You need 2 micro sd cards. This is a 2 card setup. If you only have one card, you'll have to download the 64GB version with the games and delete all the games after flashing
Use minitool to delete all the partitions and create one new partion in FAT32
@@JaviPlayRetro This is incorrect. Single card setup works fine with the 16 GB image. If OP plugs the card into PC and opens Mini Tool Partition magic they will see the 4.19 GB partition as well as a 45 GB unallocated space. OP needs to format this unallocated space to exFat and add create a drive letter. Once done Plug the card into the console and reboot console once. Upon reboot the console will create the folders in the new 45Gb partition. OP can them plug the card back into PC and will see Roms folder in the 45 GB partition. This is where Op can add the games.
Anyone know how to do this but with a Mac? I’ve been searching all over RUclips and can’t really find anyone who can show me.
I'm wondering the same thing. mine doesn't show a Bios or config. folder
Can i use a single sd setup with this tutorial? I have a 128gb sd. Also like you said in the older tutorial do i still need to resize or extend the partitions for it to go over 64gb? I'm planning to use the normal up to date stock OS
Nice vidio
I'm currently running an older version of the stock firmware (20231221) with 2x SD cards. Do I still need to do the process for the 2nd SD card, wipe all games, just to recopy them back on? Or can I just do the firmware update on SD1 and leave SD2 in there? Thanks.
Curious about this myself?

@aqmohra4
I have the Problem that after flashing my 1. Card their is no bios, config or update folder.
And idea what to do, or what im doing wrong pls?
@@Theo-rd9pf Are you using the latest version of the firmware? i.e RG35XXH-EN-240418 ? For some reason this new firmware does not have these folders there anymore. First thx for your fast answer! Appreciate it :)
Yes i used the latear one for the rg35xx h. It was something around 7gb to download.
It was also after axtraction already .IMG and not .rar so i didnt have to use 7zip. I flashed it with the first prepared sd card, got another one for the games insert them like in the video and powered the device.
I dont know why but my device (rg35xx h) doesnt show me 2 sd cards.
I also tried to put games on the second card but when useing my handheld it doenst work/ doesnt show any games on it.
I tried every step over and over 🫣
Thx for the help!
@Theo-rd9pf did you manage to fix it? I ended up copying the BIOS from the stock card with the device. Also my second SD card in TF2 ain't being picked up or creating the files? I've wiped and followed this guide 2x. I've copied the files from TF1 to TF2 and still not recognising it
@@moores2009 I have been doing research on this and it turns out you don't need the bios folder there the games never pick it up from there anyway thats why the folder has been removed from that location. Instead, the games pick the bios from the linux partition named linuxrootfs which you cant view in windows. I connected my card to a linux os and the bios is in that partition in location linuxrootfs/mnt/vendoe/deep/retro

This mean you got the 64GB image. You want the 16GB image. Unless you really want to do a single card setup. In which case select all those file and extract them with 7zip at the same time to make one big image. Then flash that image with rufus
@@JaviPlayRetro i appreciate the help. I used the link that I was emailed by anbernic. I followed your instructions for the two card system but using two 64 g SD cards and it's working great. Thanks for the help man. Your video really was the only way I was able to figure this out. 💯
Dude thank you so much. This worked perfectly. Question tho... I used the SD card that came with the system in the TF2 slot to go ahead and have all the ROMS that came pre-installed.
