  • Rowing up, baling and clearing the larger field. With the crops being so light this year it doesn't take long to do. The baler is working well below capacity which makes it harder to get a decent bale. If you want to take a look at my book about our climate change, economic, wellbeing and biodiversity loss legacies it can be found at most book retailers including Amazon by searching 'Hurry Up and Stop'.

Nice video can’t wait for the summer.I have ran new Holland And the new Massey inline baler it was very good but it keept blocking up and breaking shear bolts. now got a welger 630 wouldn’t change it now been faultless in three seasons not dropped a single knot or shear bolt. Shame can’t be said about the sledge 😤.

Thank you. Summer is on its way and hopefully a good growing season before it arrives. I must admit I haven’t the patience for balers and sledges that don’t work properly. I have ordered a new Ritchie flat 8 sledge for this year. I have used one before with a Welger AP730 and apart from the odd puncture no real problem. ‘Back in the day’ I covered acres riding on a sledge while father baled. Sloping land, unreliable sledge and a IH baler that sometimes forgot to tie a knot would otherwise have been too much for anyone to cope with on a hot day with no tractor cab.

It is. I cannot really fault it. It isn't as heavy duty as my old Welger AP730 but for what I now do and hope to do in the future it is ideal.

Hi. I baled the conservation hay at the end of last week and planned to do a short video showing the Massey being used to pick up the bales. Unfortunately with the heat and risk of storms I had to crack on and just get the bales in. Like you it takes me back to the same time in the 70's working with dad making hay in the South Lakes. It was hard work but they were very special times. There always seemed to be a sadness about loading (by hand) the last trailer of straw. That was it for the year. I learned to drive on a Massey 35 when I was 13 and it feels right to spend some time using one at this age. I will see what I can do regarding piecing together a Massey video.

Thank you. I used to run a secondhand Welger AP730 when I was baling more hay and straw and that did really well in every respect. I sold it after about 8 years for what I paid for it (it went to Holland) and put thousands of bales through it. It was always reliable and could knock out well made bales without dropping a knot all day long. Based on that experience when I wanted a replacement I bought a Welger again. I did look at inline balers but for my setup there was no advantage. Other people will prefer different balers to suit their circumstance but it is Welger all the way for me.
