  • I go over the electronic propulsion system for the Nucanoe Unlimited. This is an overview of what you get out of the box with Nucanoe's EPS system for Torquedo or Newport Vessels electronic outboard motors. Is it worth the cost? What exactly does it come with? Also, is it a good value?

    I just need the quick connect attachment as I already have foot steering sans the quick connect.
    Is that available to purchase on its own?
    Edit: yes. It’s available. Lol.

    because the U10 is short and wide . Is there much of a speed difference in it between the Nk180 and the NK360

      @thebeardedpaddler  3 месяца назад +1

      Not really but there will be even more need for a rudder in the U10

      Max amp draw is 52amp according to Motorguide. That's what I would go off of to accurately choose how much power is needed.

    I went from the Nk180 with the hand steering to the foot steering and it's a pretty big upgrade in my opinion. I can face the wind and with the flick of my foot stay where I want to be with the motor bumped up like 10%. Hand steering was constantly using your hand, taking away from fishing.
    Any idea where the motor (mount adjusted) should sit in the water? I've seen some all the way down and a few way up near the water. Not sure what the rule of thumb is or pros and cons. Great video as usual.

      Thank you!
      I run it up higher when in shallow water and further down in deeper water. You are slightly more efficient with it fully submerged

    That foot controlled steering from NuCanoe is BJ proof, so simple to install. Looks like the EPS system may be BJ proof as well 😉 Thanks for sharing the video. 👊😎

    EPS systems in my opinion are very much still in their infancy stage. Cables and ropes and exposed hardware and fixed outdrives, it's just too much on the deck and moving parts. I contend that the former "FlexDrive" system with the Jackson Bite E-Drive is the most ingenious marriage between electric propulsion on a kayak to date. Even though the flex drive takes up a lot of deck space, too much. Before I even think about another EPS system a lot of thought and engineering is going to have to happen to make easier, cleaner and more convenient to use.

    • @thebeardedpaddler
      @thebeardedpaddler  3 месяца назад

      This is probably the most convenient system I've seen. The only cable that is on the deck is the cord going to the foot control. This system gets rid of all the cords that come with the motor (mainly steering cords and reverse lock) and makes it easy to remove and reinstall

    After running the foot control for two years now, I would rather have the stick steering.

      Really?
      Interesting. I think they are both really nice. What makes you want to go back to the hand control?

      @thebeardedpaddler peddle itself was getting in the way and taking up space on deck. Always have to check where my rudder is even after putting a white line for the center mark on my peddle. It's nice to rest my foot, but my other is left out, lol.
      I've seen cool mods to stick steering where guys are putting extensions on them and are able to stand and steer while fishing.

    Reverse lock?

    • @thebeardedpaddler
      @thebeardedpaddler  3 месяца назад +1

      There is a lock on the bracket that holds the motor. While not perfect, it does help with that.

    I'm loving the foot steer for the QC Rudder, but I do have one very minor complaint. That foot steer pedal sits so close to the deck that when you have to push it to the extreme down, your usually catching your heel on the deck and having to readjust. In absolutely no way is this a deal breaker, but I wish they just would of raised the position of that guy like an inch or two.

    At the time I ordered the EPS I thought it was kind of expensive but 1) you can install it in like 20 min so you’re paying for that engineering time and 2) it’s simple, easy and effective. Works great, hands free steering. Only complaint is that if you need to go in reverse it’s easy to kick the motor up with the pressure kick up

    • @thebeardedpaddler
      @thebeardedpaddler  3 месяца назад

      The pivot drive does that too. I was actually wondering that

      @@thebeardedpaddler yeah you have to start slow in reverse. From my understanding it’s much more of a problem w/ the 300 vs the NK180pro. I also haven’t really looked for a solution at all

    I want an Unlimited so bad. I’m having an extremely hard time selling my native slayer max. Had it on Craigslist for a year now. Live in the mountains of NC. Have it listed $1200 off from a new one but yet no bites. I don’t want to give it away for less than that. Totally depressing. If it ever sells though, I want the unlimited with this foot steering/rudder and an Xi3 for big lakes.
