It can be hard working in a hot attic, especially in the winter months when you're acclimated to the cold. But here, we can go as high as 80 in the winter. They may laugh, but I'll get the fan out. I could see your work becoming frustrating not only because it was hot, but hot and Trane no longer makes easy to work on air handlers like they used to. There was suppose to be a factory flat fuse in there- can't imagine it being missing. Also, I have moved the board out to where it is easier to work on by using a metal L bracket I made. Good work!!
Iam HVAC installer service tech for the last 35 yrs ..& A rechargeable head light is best portable light ive found that works for me / I also have several small stick up magnetic lights also ...gotta see lol

Some HVAC guys will entertain you and then some that teach you. I'm learning a lot watching your channel. Your my #1 HVAC channel. I'm a retired electrician.
Gotta take a second and sat thank you lord for that big ol attic. One thing that gets me more upset than anything is a tight attic or when you have to stand on a ladder to work on a unit in a attic. Always appreciate your content and thank you for your knowledge 🙏
Another enjoyable video😀😀 I am a DIY HVAC guy and I've picked up some good tips watching you. There are more instructive videos out there, particularly on mini splits, but I enjoy the actual figuring out you do and the repair solutions. Just one difference between you and me - you do it all without cussing and swearing!!
I love my lil popper test kit. You put in place of the fuse, power on the unit, and if a short is present, it lights up. Then you unhook 1 wire at a time until the light goes out, and thats the shorted wire. It really saves time when searching for a low voltage short. Best $15 I've ever spent when it comes to a tool that saves you time. Also, 2018-Current Carrier ODUs are notorious for bad contactors from the factory. The clear coating on the windings of the contactor coil is either to thin, or the coils are just bad. I've had to replace like 5 this year, and found a video explaining the bad batch of contactors used by Carrier on those years. Love the videos. Keep up the great work.
20 years in the business and I've never seen this high a failure rate of contactors. I understand trying to make things cheaply to save money, but this is ridiculous! These things are total junk. We're also finding some of these on newer Rheem equipment. Most Rheem has sequencers to control the electric heat and you're not expecting a contactor to be in the air handler. So you're looking for your short at the outdoor unit (where they are 95% of the time) and then come to find out you have a cheap old shorted contactor at the indoor unit. 😒
I've enjoyed watching your HVAC content and now I see you're a fellow Bobcat! East campus or West? I was there in the late 70's. Athens is still one of my favorite places. OU Oh, Yeah!
I graduate in spring and will probably go take a chiller course at chillco for shits and giggles. I am really interested in trying to get a Nate certificate.
Awesome my hvac friend. I myself got my 2 year associate degree in hvac and refrigeration in 1987. My texas department of licensing and regulations license in 1991 and started my business in the same year. Love what I do for a living. Don't think I'll be retiring any time soon. Enjoy the ride bud.
I've got an associate in heat and air that I used my GI bill for. It helped set the pace. I still talk to my instructors. I went to York tech in rock hill SC
I graduated electronics with laboratory. Studied electronic circuit design and audio video servicing. Did on the job training in HVAC and Plumbing been doing this for over 30 years. I currently run and operate my own business.
That's funny, most of my low voltage shorts have come from Trane units. When I worked for Trane technologies, I found out how unreliable they really are.
I'm not an hvac tech so this might be a stupid question. Why didn't you wire the new contactor before installing it? You uninstalled the old one while it was still wired, why not wire the new one then screw it in place?
I wonder if HVAC companies read these comments about their crappy components they install in these units and try to make improvements..... simple answer ..Hell No.🤣🤣🤣😲😲😲
On the contactor you were having so much trouble to connect the wires, try taking out the screw in the front and then you can pivot the contactor and maybe make it easier to connect those wires in the backside.
I believe if you look at those female spade terminals on the Trane, you'll find that they have a tiny raised half punch that pops into the hole in the male terminal leaving a little lip that has to be overcome when removing them. Requires the unreasonable effort you had to take or you can use the point of a nail to push them in as you pull. But you might need a third hand for the latter.
I have heard that many cameras are limited to 30min recording time, for tax reasons. I think it has something to do with broadcasting vs regular home usage. There is usually no mention about this in the instructions.
it's often a file size limit of 4GB, which is just about 30 minutes at 1080p. depending on the formatting of storage card and the device, it may split the file and continue to record or flat stop.
I need heat and A/C for a new attic bedroom...plenty of extra floor space up there. Should I go with a mini split or put a standard propane furnace in?
Not sure where you are. Consult a local contractor, maybe get multiple quotes. I’d say initial install cost on a ductless system is considerably less…obviously because there’s no ductwork.
A standard 40 VA transformer can handle 1.7amps so a 3 amp fuse will give it some head room for inrush currents. A 60 VA transformer can handle 2.5 amps so a 5 amp gives it 200% inrush headroom.
Whoever twisted the low voltage wires outside the wire nuts is just wasting time. Once wire outside the wire nuts starts to twist the wires inside the wire nuts are as tight as they will get.

It aggravates me 2 c how lazy some r and those who outright lie ive been on several calls they try sell new unit when a repair was all it needed

Thanks. I laughed hard at you saying you couldn’t focus on or see the connections. Have same problem sometimes. Getting old sucks!
Changed a contactor in a Goodman unit yesterday. Was shorted
The little fuse popper is my best friend when Diagnosing low-voltage issues on a short.
Great troubleshooting!

Bobcats babe!!!!!!! Im an hvac tech that went to ou too
The tstat wire and high voltage wire skin is made from ground up peanut shells that’s why varmints always chew on wires
And various other things but the peanut part is why animals are drawn to chewing on wires
That’s my kind of attic. Great content.

Trane is no better than any other units, just cost more money. It's all in the installation.

Why was the aux pan drain line valved shut?

It’s hard to stop a Trane but they always forget to mention how hard it is to start once it stops.. lol.
Bad indoor Txv’s and low voltage issues.

Good one 👍
There was no low voltage fuse in the control board?

upside down and backwards, you need a mirror :)
Yep 1.47 ohms it's not doing any work
Also the plenum high limit and double pole double throw like to short too
I hear it can be hard to start a trane.
So how do you know 3 amp or 5 amp. Put a 3 in and see if it blows?
A standard 40 VA transformer can handle 1.7amps so a 3 amp fuse will give it some head room for inrush currents. A 60 VA transformer can handle 2.5 amps so a 5 amp gives it 200% inrush headroom.

No 3 amp fuse on board and didn’t blow transformer… weird.
Is that ball valve going to pan shut? Good work on that one.
Yes, some leave it closed so float will open indicate a problem. But, it sure makes emptying the pan easy.
