Wow! It's so cool to see this engine is still around and running. I'm the original builder. I'm a machinist in California and I built this engine about 15 years ago. It's one of a kind due to the chain drive. The original kit had gears but I wanted the chain so I had to re-time the cam shaft to turn the same direction as the crank. The distributor is positioned to mimic the magneto on the full size engine. The crank was machined out of a solid piece of 4140 steel. I still have a few blue prints from it in my tool box. I sold it to a gentleman in France about 10-12 years ago. I kinda wish I still had it. Oh well.
Hey Conqueror73, thanks for some history on this engine. I have owned it for about 4 years now, it had a bent crankshaft when I received it, damaged in transit so it sat under my bench for a few years then last year I dug it out and repaired the crank. I made this base for it and added the fan and radiator. There is another video getting around on RUclips of how this engine used to look before I bought it from Damien from France.
@@Darren_Fawcett That's funny. That's why I sold it. It was just sitting on my work bench. It financed a trip to Disneyland for my family. You did a great job with it! I still have some of the castings which I didn't use and some of the prints if you're interested. I still have the fixture I made for machining the crankshaft.
Wow! pretty impressive construction, though it seems to be running in only three cylinders and oil is leaking from front camshaft bearing. No doubt you got that fixed right smartly.
Hi Keit, you know I had only just got that engine running and I was pretty keen to get a video of it running. Over time I have got to learn the engine and if I play with the needle a little you can hear that fourth cylinder firing up and it runs a lot smoother. The oil leaks were fixed by machining a little groove in each bush at each end of the camshaft and installing an o ring. I get a bit dizzy every time I watch that video because it’s all over the place, one of these days I buy myself a gimbal and make a nice video. Thanks for your comments
@@Darren_Fawcett : I didn't find the wandering video much of a problem. Better if it had been steady but not much of a problem. There's much worse in some other videos on RUclips. And many for some unfathomable reason cover their audio with loud music - which you didn't. All good.
These are a machinist kit. Usually you would buy a casting kit and machine it yourself. I was lucky enough to pickup the engine on eBay, repair it and make the base and fan÷ radiator for it.
They are as rare as shark 💩 If you really want one you are best to buy the castings and machine one up yourself. This one came up on eBay, the only one I have ever seen advertised. And then I had to do a heap of work to it to get it to how it looks today.
