Horizontal True Diesel Model Engine
I’ve been playing with this 16cc true diesel engine lately. It it’s far from being perfect but it’s a good start for a model diesel engine. I haven’t played with the injector yet but I am hoping I can improve the spray somehow so I can get better atomisation. #diesel #dieselengine

Attempted to install the supercharger but after hearing all the banging going on and seeing all that metal I’ve decided against it for now. Even fitting some Japanese quality bearings hasn’t helped. So I’ve removed the rotors for now and installed a dummy shaft.

I have finally got around to putting some new rings into this engine to try and stop it from spitting so much oil and blowing smoke. I’ve adjusted the oil pressure down to as low as it can go which is around 10 psi but I’m still getting a bit of smoke blowing out on one side, at least I’m not getting any more oil spraying out the exhaust. Hats off to the master machinist that built this fine engine. It only required minimal work to complete. I’ve had to make the base, finish off the plumbing for the cooling, make a fuel tank, throttle linkages, fit an oil pressure gauge, make the exhaust trumpets, finish off the distributor, make a few adjustments to the carburetor and build an ignition system. After playing with my Benz car I thought it would be a good idea to fit some remotes to this tractor. I just needed 4 micro servos, a transmitter and receiver (RadioLink RC6GS v3) and some space for some extra batteries…and a few days to make a few brackets and put it all together. This engine was one of the first released back in early 2020. I never got around to assembling it then others started reporting on their crankshafts breaking so I held off building this engine until I knew if there was going to be some sort of a fix. @darrenfawcett9912 yeah the Luhrs model is impressively even smaller than this. I was planning to buy the Lurh but saving up for a proper v8 or v12 now

That water pump is the tits! As impractical as it would be, it would be awesome to use it on a steam punk water cooled pc. lovely bit of kit you've got there!

@@Darren_Fawcett do you have it set at minimum voltage and max current?
@@hi1172 First wind CC all the way clockwise until you can hear a faint clicking sound. Connect a multimeter and wind CV anticlockwise until the voltage drops down to 1.5v. You will turn for a while and nothing will be happening on the meter then it will start to come down quickly. Creep up on the 1.5 mark as I have had a couple units that have stopped working and went back to the full 11v when I went below about 1v. Once you are set at 1.5v connect up a max of 4 glow plugs and with the multimeter still hooked up tweak the CV until you are back at 1.5 as the voltage will drop as you connect up more plugs.

Well done mate - hats off to anyone who can get these turds running at all. On a broader level though, I don't see the point of making a V8 motor which sounds nothing like one, sounds more like a tired 2 cylinder. Looks great though, got to admit that :)

@@Dudeface167 After playing with so many models that are static this was the first RC model that I could actually drive around. I fitted remotes to my tractor not long after getting this model up and running so that I could drive it around as well. Thanks for watching.

If you think of the radiator as being at the front of the engine and I was to crank start it from that end of the engine then I would be cranking it clockwise.

How much run time can you expect? Did you put oil in it? What fuel do you run?
I’d say I get about 10 minutes from a tank. I did put oil in the sump but keep in mind that the sump halves have not been sealed properly so over time the oil may seep through the cracks… but better to have some in there than none at all. Using regular gasoline with a few drops of 2 stroke oil.
@@Darren_Fawcett Why would the vendor, manufacture and Engineer all say no oil need be added to the crankcase but, a point in fact, there is an oil fill with cap and all logic says its turning, therefore ipso-factor it apparently needs lubricant ie; oil to lubricate the moving parts? yet...they insist and persist
@@donjaksa4071 I know. Up to you but I always like the thought of lubrication down there. The H74 engine for example I have seen the maker (Jin) run his engine with the side cover off and I couldn’t see any oil splashing around but when I first bought mine and ran it with no oil I had one of the pistons seize up so after replacing the piston, cylinder and conrod i decided to run some sort of lubrication down there even if it leaks out all the cracks…I just drain it when I’m done so it doesn’t leave me any surprises when I go to get it from the display cabinet the next time I want to run it.

Sure mate, happy to help where I can. I have to use ear plugs for this one, got a bit of punch in its exhaust note. The original carby requires more work to make it work.

hmmmm could you replace a moped 50cc single cylinder engine with this one?
Anything is possible but the moped engine would be more reliable. These engines were never mèn for anything other than a display or a small RC car of some sort. The single would probably be more powerful as well! Gary Conley did build a small bike that is powered by one of his V8s.
Excellent engine, are they toruble free ?
I’ve got this engine on my bench at the moment. When I was playing with it last (6 months ago) it was blowing smoke and spitting oil after just a few minutes of running so I stripped it down this past few days and put a new set of rings into it. It is a nice looking engine and relatively easy to work on. It uses o rings for all mating parts so dismantling and reassembly is a breeze. I’ll be putting some tanks of fuel through it in the coming week.
@darrenfawcett9912 looking forward to more videos of it running affer the maintenance work you done on it. Hoping to own one of these sometime soon, but finding a well looked after and fully functional one could be a challenge

Very nice engine and very nice running in low RPM. What did you do to get the RPM so incredible low? Low on fuel and air, but did you also set the ignition to a certain moment in time i.e. early, top dead center or late?
