- In this video, I'm going to go over how to clear a check engine light without a scan tool. Also a number of reasons why you would not want to clear a check engine light with or without a scan tool.

There are many instances that you're not going to want to clear your check engine light due to two reasons that you may need that information for your repair. In some cases, it's not a bad idea to clear your check engine light prior to diagnosing just to verify the problem is still there and it was not a fluke like a loose gas cap or something along those lines.
If the check engine light does come back it is then definitely time to make sure you have it repaired. But there are ways to clear the check engine light without a scan tool.

Just cleared the engine check light on my 2012 VOLVO S80. I just removed the neutral cable for about a minute and finished it. Thank you very much.

I got my intake/exhaust solenoids and map sensor replaced on my 06 HHR. Is it ok to clear the check engine light then? I have to get emissions test before the month is up.

But can it pass emissions because according to what he just said, it won’t. So it defeats the purpose
I pulled and shorted cables together then pulled all fuses mentioning anything with pcu and reinstalled fuses reinstalled cables.. Worked on a 17' caravan.
Does not seem to work on a mercedes benz 2006 slk350. Tried for 5 minutes with disconnected neg cable..
My engine light was on Took it to have checked code P0446 fuel pressure sensor I replace fuel pressure sensor my engine light was still on does it goes off when you fix the problem or you have to unplug the battery to clear the engine light
Get a new gas cap
@@DOLseniornew gas cap doesn’t change fuel pressure that has to do with tank pressure and you would get an evap leak not a fuel pressure code
I did this on a 2007 Sonata. It's been 2 years and the 420 code didn't come back
How long after completing this step should you get emissions test?
I have the same problem. I reset it and my car didn't pass inspection. I have to drive it more than 100 miles. the problem he comes back lol.
Use a resistor don’t short!
What we want to know is how to erase the check engine light permanently.

On an older car jump the bulb to the battery charging light🤣 you could probably do this on every car but a modern clocks will be difficult

This didn’t work on my wv beetle and mechanic suggested deleting the code with a scanner tool. Let’s see if it will work that way
Y'all know the check engine light comes on for a reason right!? They don't just pop on to annoy you. Yes it could be something very simple (loose gas cap) also could be the start of something very serious.
Comment at the very end exactly what I'm hoping to try and do. Clear the codes Drive the vehicle see if what I did worked. And if not have to go come back so I can take it and have the mechanic do the job. Or better diagnose the problem that way I do not do the stupid thing and parts Canon the vehicle

Just work couple days and come back again.
No all you have to do is disconnect the negative cable from the post allow it to sit for 10 to 15 minutes then reconnect start the car The engine light will go off now you have to reset the computer and you have to drive it to set it

When you used the wrench to drain and residual voltage you almost shorted out the battery which has known to explode when shorted Be careful guys!

What if it does not come back on ? What does that mean
It's not to fool people. Sometimes you've fixed the issue but it doesn't make the light go off.
@@myyoutubechannel3161 If it doesn't come back on then the car's computer has not found a fault. Sometimes the computer will allow a certain number of faults within a set period of time. Once it goes over that number, it throws a Check Engine Light. If it stays below that number, no light.

That dosint drain if you put a wrench to both terminal s. ....it will fry a computer

@@billwilson6096 hey ! I had a po420 code.. The mechanic cleared the code ... I'm running it 150 miles and taking it back to hopefully pass emission and inspection... As long as that check engine light doesn't come back on I'd be ok on that right? ? Please give your input please.... Ty
@@The_magic_mountain33 …. You should be fine at passing the emission test, basically as far as I know this test is simply a look to see if the CEL is showing in your dash cluster.
@@billwilson6096 I picked up some stuff to. Dump in my gas tank to hopefully help not trigger another engine light .. I dump some cata clear .. He said he didn't see any holes in the converter so I'm hoping your right cause I just spent 5,000 on a tractor mower and don't have 1,000 bucks for a catalyct converter ... My guess is an oxygen sensor ..hope the cleaner helps and your right bout the check engine light staying off... Thanks

Car needs a fuel Valve I believe. Super easy to change 30-50$ for the part😊
Just pull the ACU fuse and put it back in…
