The Dutch are hardy people. A nation of cyclists. I lived there for two years. You bike down the street and it is amazing how many Dutch ride bicycles. Women with children in the bike equivalent to a car seat, teenagers, adults, and the elderly.... all cycling along and it is 100% normal. Very good bike lanes for it and the traffic is used to it and has a lot of regard for cyclists, normally. Some are carting around groceries with them, other briefcases full of important papers... I've even seen people carrying things like lamps. Most impressive was watching the Dutch cycle in the rain while holding an umbrella like it was second nature. A lifetime of that keeps your body strong (and the cheese and milk and bier!). It was no wonder to me when that the old man said he was fine standing like that. After what I saw of how they cycle everywhere for a large part of their daily lives, young and old alike, you know that the older people in the Netherlands are probably stronger in body (and mind) than many people the same age in other parts of the Western world.

That wonderful feeling of reuniting someone with something they thought gone forever. I experienced something like when I was able to save my mom's cat when she told the vet to put the cat to sleep after it had been hit by a car and the surgery to heal the cat was more than my parents could afford at the time. My best friend worked for the vet and knew what my mom had said. He and I talked to the vet and asked if he would take payments over time to do the surgery. He agreed. The surgery went well and my friend and I snuck the cat (in a large dog cage) down into our basement. We told my mom we had something for her downstairs. When she saw the cat, she started crying for joy. I think that was the first time (I was about 20) I had ever seen my mom sobbing! She was so happy!! The cat lived for many more years. :o)
It was so heartwarming to see him light up & become excited over each piece shown especially the items that belonged to his mother since she has passed on. The relief on his face after getting all those things back specially the ones which belonged to his mum. Moms are treasure. He surely loved his mom more than any thing.
So wonderful. My brother searches for things too, He treats every item of a personal nature with such respect. Because they belonged to someone. It represents a life. That old man seems in such good shape for his age. Maybe it’s how you lived your life that determines how you live out your days.
I'm in the area of youtube where someone is cutting up onions.
those damn ninjas cutting onions
Eh, it's just the sappy music in the background.
Onions here too... ❤️

wow that is such a sweet thing to do 🥺💖🥰
For once, I’m grateful for the algorithm here on RUclips and getting this on my recommended
It was so heartwarming to see him light up & become excited over each piece shown especially the items that belonged to his mother since she has passed on. What a beautiful opportunity to share that with him. I bet he really enjoyed your visit & the chance to share a bit about his family. You have done so much good right there!
This genuinely made me cry seeing him talkin and receiving it and he remembered it so much as if it was yesterday
There's nothing more heart warming then seeing an old man with tears of joy in his eyes. Great video ! Wishing you many blessings from Canada ! ❤ 🇨🇦
Hummingbird 22 ♥️ canadians will always/ have always been the best! To many more years of friendship ♥️
The relief on his face after getting all those things back specially the ones which belonged to his mum. Moms are treasure. He surely loved his mom more than any thing.
So wonderful. My brother searches for things too, He treats every item of a personal nature with such respect. Because they belonged to someone. It represents a life. To be able to find the long lost owner must be the greatest feeling. My brother would understand the feelings that you can not find words for. My brother, you are great men.
What a heart warming story! Now he has his belongings and a new friend.

Dutch sounds so much like a hybrid between german, danish and swedish. Even as a Swed I can pick up like every 4-6 word. Man it's so neat to hear that something thats so old can be so similar.
Plague Doc they’re all germanic so ofc they are quite the same.
@@Potjenjks2988 I know but it's just neat to see how even though we've been seperate countries for hundreds of years we can still pick up words.
@@Plague_Doc22 I speak german and I can pickup everything
@@012345678944107 yeah dutch and german is quite similar. I think me being fluent in german as a very young child helps. Sadly I cant really speak german anymore as I never used it past 5 years old.
Frrr samee im part swedish and understand some words too
I love how this RUclipsr really made an effort to find the man.
Oi! Felix I did not know you watch these stuff hahah ah
Damn your English is good. It's sometimes hard to tell you're not American.
Plot twist: he is really American and he is speaking Dutch with an accent.
He's not American?!
@H7r S7sbe as a solely English speaking person I disagree
H7r S7sbe English is incredibly more difficult because most other languages share the same accents and alphabet.
One of my friends from long ago online is Dutch and speaks with an American accent because he said he watch lots of American movies as a kid to learn better.
It is very sentimental to the old folks, especially when they were the only cherished jewels he had! God bless! 😍
You gave that man a little piece of his mum back. I'll bet that scarf is now one of his most precious possessions.
That was really nice of you tracking him down and returning his belongings. Respect !

You're an absolute legend for doing that.

@Pickle 😂😂well ek kan dan nie verstaan nie

yes its easy to understand if you listen carefully because the words are so similar so you can piece together what they are saying.
yeah, after all, afrikaans is basically just dutch spoken by boers

Exactly! I've never heard anyone sound like they were a native speaker of two different languages. He was switching back & forth.
Wow! You sound like your from Seattle...
Yeah I've noticed that when Dutch people speak English their accents are hardly detectable
I’m part friesian Dutch and I don’t know one word 😢
This American will take that as a compliment ❤️, the Russians sound this way too, many heartwarming and caring people in Russian RUclips videos.

I went to college for Anthropology and wanted to be an Archaeologist but it never happened for me. I would love to do this so much on my channel.
I wanted to be a treasure hunter but now I am a garbageman. Treasure comes to me everyday. I don't look for it. It presents itself. The template of a treasure hunter fits nicely over garbageman. I have a great life. Maybe your Anthropology/Archaeologist template will fit in a way you don't expect also. Happy hunting. :)
