"What's that SPELL?" The parts he itemized: Lips, eyes, hair, legs, thighs....what's the spell? Women!
On a good sound system with big speakers and bass - this song hits HARD. My favorite on the album.
Gods of War is another with amazing sound with that heavy bass! Both of these songs sadly were not as popular as they should have been.
I like "what's that smell" better. Lol
100% correct
YES!!!
Gods of War is incredible up loud. Hysteria was a masterpiece of epic proportions!
😊 totally agree. I believe that Women is my favourite song on all of Hysteria.
Was lucky enough to see Def Leppard LIVE in 1988 with Steven Clark! What a concert!
Def Leppard was never the same after steve died.....miss that lineup.....was my teen years.
I also saw them in 88 on my 19th bday. LA Guns opened for them.
color me green.
I missed that show - I was 16. My mom did not let me go to rock concerts. I did see them in the late 90s in S.F. though with V. Campbell. But their tour in 88 is one of a few concert tours that I truly lament not getting to see. Damn Yankees a close 2nd.
Lucky!!!
Same here! Amazing!
Whole album is a masterpiece. 12mill sold in America alone. 7 hits on the album, a record at the time, same as Michael Jackson the same year with "Bad".
One of the best def leopard songs! This album was a MONSTER success, every song was a hit!
Hooters have been around since the 1980s. lol. Mostly in the southern states like Florida, Georgia and parts of the midwest like Chicago, Illinois, Iowa, Indian, etc.
1990s is when they started expanding all over the US and other places.
The opening track to my favorite album. I was 12 when my grandma bought it for me and that sound forever changed me. Thanks Steve Clark for inspiring me! 🎸❤
First album I ever asked for as a kid. Got it for my 12th birthday on the day it went to #1. Still my favourite album ever.
& Erik & i were together for about 8 years then! Little did i know someone i consider a friend on here would stab me in the back during hardest time of our lives! Yet he swore to me we we fine "til death do us part etc" Witness living here & all. I want answers from you! Get in touch asap!
The ending of this song is epic sounding. Also, this is the first song they released off of Hysteria, and the first time people seen Rick Allen with one arm.
This song and Love Bites are the best of their singles released of Hysteria. The others are too commercial poprock. With little guitars. But this album is a far cry from the first two Heavy Rock albums On Through The Night and High And Dry.
Not really on through…but High is amazing, so is pyro. I still love Hys. Retroactive their last great collection of songs 93.
@@ssRocker-nn3tp why does “commercial” mean bad? Every song on that album is a straight banger.
love that people know their shit on this band. I was born in the same town as these, my dad was in a band and knew these guys
Greatest band and song of all time
I remember like it was yesterday. Me and my mom in her 86 Mustang 5.0. We went to the record store and as a 5 year old I was always excited to hear what she would buy. We got in the car and that opening riff to Women played. Hysteria was my favorite album for years. Good memories!!!
No matter what u say: this song makes everyone feel like a successful Rock Star!!
She looks like she is enjoying the music and he looks so serious! 😮
im 57 and still love them
Epic song
I was so happy to finally get a reaction to this video. Been waiting for someone to do it for so long I’d given up hope that I would get to see it. Something about that riff during the chorus that draws me to the song.
1st heard this song 30yrs ago and to this day, still LOVE this song and still LOVE 🎶WOMEN.. ALL AROUND THE WORLD🎶
Lex the original Hooters it is in Clearwater Florida
I saw Def Leppard when they opened for Blackfoot. It was Def Leppard's second album, High and Dry, and Blackfoot's Marauder albums. Outstanding concert.
One my favourites.
This is one of the best live songs they do!! So much energy!!
Great opening song from my all time favorite album. Nothing has beat it to this day.
love that song especially the ending
'Women' was the first track on the 1987 album 'Hysteria'... and it was the first single. At the time, it was not a hit because Def Leppard had been gone since 1984 (Rick Allen's accident... recording delays... etc.) and it was worrying because the band was in debt from making 'Hysteria'... and initial tour dates were poorly attended. They had to sell 5 million copies just to pay off all the costs, and would not get any royalties from sales.
But producer Mutt Lange had the vision of making a 'Hysteria' a rock record w/ 7 singles, hoping to get the same fanfare as Michael Jackson's 'Thriller'... So, Def Leppard kept releasing more singles to radio and MTV - 'Women'... 'Hysteria'... 'Animal'... and the album sold 3 million copies by 1988 (not enough to cover their debt). The plus side was that 'Hysteria' went #1 in the UK, their first hit record there.
Then, the 4th single 'Pour some sugar on me' was released in the summer of '88 and became a huge hit... 'Hysteria' started selling in the millions worldwide, and 3 more singles followed - 'Love bites'... 'Armageddon it'... 'Rocket'... making a total of 7 singles from the album, which sold 12 million copies in the US and Def Leppard were on tour until 1989.
Part of the recording delays was due to the fact that Mutt Lange had to finish the production of The Cars Heartbeat City album-- a 5 million seller in itself and the band had to wait until Mutt was finished before they could begin Hysteria. Without this prior commitment, Rick Allen probably does not get into his accident and Hysteria in finished and released on time in 1985.
@@chrisb9577 There is no 'if' and 'but' or 'probably' in life... If that were consequential, then Tool might not have taken 13 years to make 'Fear inoculum'.
Mutt Lange did not sign on to produce 'Hysteria'. Def Leppard used Meat Loaf songwriter Jim Steinman in pre-production, and that didn't work for them... Then, Rick Allen's accident happened and they had no drummer for months... Def Leppard tried to self-produce the record between 1985/ '86... and that didn't work either.
When Rick Allen was ready, Def Leppard played their first shows in the summer of 1986 w/ Allen's new kit.
It was just after that when Mutt Lange finally signed on to work on 'Hysteria' and the album was done by 1987.
This is my #1 fav on this album Hysteria. It is the opening track. I got this I was in 10th grade. I had P.E. as a pre-period (before school - to allow me a second elective class). So i was walking to school hella early. I bought this album (cassette tape) with my own money and waited till Monday to listen to it for first time on way to school on my WalkMan.
This song kicked in as the first single, and I was blown away! It kicked me into full energy mode. I spent the whole rest of the school day just thinking about walking home to listen to it again.
I wore out three copies of this album from playing it sooo much in my teen years until I got a CD of it around the time I was 19. Still to this day one of my fav albums all time - but as I got older I found myself gravitating back to their older albums again, and I will say I think overall High & Dry is today my favorite album of them start to finish. Pyromania and or Hysteria in second.
Their 80’s live video song “let it go” their BEST song.
According to google the first hooters was in florida in 1983.
One of my faves❤
I appreciate how your teactions are incredibly doverse in style
Def started that whole synth in metal thing. That dropping synth is the verses. Bawww Boww. So cool
It was super exciting back when this first premiered on radio before the album released, to hear they were actually back. Always loved the guitar solos at the end
Good spot to pause!
Hooters Restaurant didn't become nationally popular until the 90s.
Not sure if you all caught it or was even aware but this was after the drummer lost his arm in an accident!! And he still plays phenomenally
The Hysteria Album is a masterpiece from beginning to end. Mutt deserves credit for that.
he was just tryna impress Shania 😝
I don’t go often but if Hooters did change their name I would NEVER go back!!!!
Love seeing a reaction to this song. Very under appreciated tune. Don't know if ya'll noticed but the drummer has one arm......he lost his left arm in a car accident. The band took a break and waited for him to heal. He figured out the first electronic drum kit with foot pedals to play his left hand parts. Rick Allen "the thunder god" is amazing to see live!
Def leppard has been around since the 70s
Now that's the funniest thing I've ever heard you say lex haha "whats that smell" women lol
Saw them in Boston MA they had a great Pyrotechnics 🧨 show
When Lex said "Imagine Hooters in the 80s" my mind went in a completely different direction: now that you brought them up, it's only fair to react to the 80s band, The Hooters. "And We Danced" or "All You Zombies" are both great songs.
They did And We Danced already but they gotta do All You Zombies.
I sung this song back 87 Steven Harris
B-side: "Tear It Down"
Recorded: 1984-1986
Released: 25 August 1987
More like strip clubs in Phoenix where us rockers went.
Variety is What Def Leppard Is About. Plus They Are All About Sticking By Their Friends And Not Giving Up. They Stuck By Their Drummer. 🥁 And I Totally Respect Them For That. ❤😊
Joe has the cool hair in this one
grew up with def leppard
#1 Steve Clark.... RIP Bro...
Such a Banger 🔥
The song Women... yeah, they went there
When Hysteria dropped Def Leppard became arguably the biggest band in the world. I have heard every song on this album on the radio at one time or another. Only other two albums that I can personally say that about are Dark Side of the Moon and Boston's debut album. Both achieved that long before Hysteria of course. You should watch the Def Leppard "Behind The Music" from VH-1. The shenanigans that went on during the Hysteria tour...
The first time I’ve seen Def Leppard live, they opened for Billy Squire. Two years later I saw Billy Squire opening for Journey.
My cat's favorite band...
“What’s that spell?” Not smell! I own the Def Leppard shirt to this song. It has the same comic book animation to “Women” in which Joe Elliott wears in the concert video in Denver. This song was their first single & video released on the Hysteria album. Lex related Hooters to this song, and I got a parody idea to it. “Hooters! Hooters! Lots of big 🍑 hooters. Men! Men! They can’t live without it.” 😂
You should check out a band called Winter rose, they have a song called "saved by love" it is so 80s glam metal..Great song
Love this song !! One of Def’s best !! ❤❤❤Rock Out !! RIP Steve Clark 🥲🥲
EXCELLENT SONG!! A+++
This brought me back. I'd listened to them since the Pyromania album, but I got into them deeper in the later 80s. This is off Hysteria. I had the concert shirt from this tour, it had the comic book on the front.
Awesome song! My favorite subject 😂
I just love this song!!!
It was absolutely a female appreciation song. It's important to keep in mind that this was the opening track on Hysteria, and set the tone for what was a familiar but in important ways different sound for Def Leppard. It primes the listener for the sonic experiences to come, and also heralds some of the more reflective songs on the album. Also, that "Hooters is rebranding because Millennials don't like breasts" thing is a hoax. Even when not part of a hoax, most claims made about a generation of people are specious at best. America is one of the most diverse nations (not just in terms of race) on the planet, as well as its third most populous and third largest by area (only Russia is significantly larger by area). Lumping people born into that massive set of ranges for nearly two decades into a "generation" and then labeling, describing, marketing to, and mythologizing them is absurd, but it's what we do, and it helps keep a number of machines occupied and profitable.
America is also the most restrictive and anal retentive nation on the planet.
@The Coup. Tell us how you really feel bud.
@@sapporoichiban3612 Lol. You can tell the blatant fanboys over the casuals.
Canada has more land mass...
@@normansawatzky4778 I was taught the same, but just looked it up. We actually don't have more landmass, we have more area. We are larger if you add the lakes ect. not if you only count land area.
Mirror Mirror (Look Into My Eyes)
Women and rocket are great songs to kickoff this classic album. This album is their best album it has: women, rocket, love bites, pour some sugar on me, Armageddon it, god's of war, the title song. Its a great album
A terrible album. Pour Some Sugar On Me is easily one of the WORST songs of all time. Seeing people praise this album makes me understand why music went in the shitter.
Not in my DFL playlist.
New 2 me.
Always glad to see you doing Def Lep reviews!! Please also do Killswitch Engage!!! That would be awesome!!
Can't do much better with 80's Rock than Def Leppard.
There wouldn’t be hardly any music made by men, if not for women…..Truth.
Not necessarily Hooters, but EVERY strip club in the world. The late 80's / early 90's hairbands were synonymous with supplying the ladies with a LOT of music to pole to.
On a similar note, give a listen to Motley Crue's "She Goes Down" and Danger Danger's "Everybody Wants Some".
The first of 7 singles from this album. A massive hit record.
All praise to women gladly give up a rib for those beautiful species of humanity. I don't think this is vintage hard Def Leppard like of High and Dry, Pyromania this is super polished skick production from Mutt Lange who was for a sense and purpose was the 6th member of Def Leppard. Dig going to Hooters solo no wingman just chill and order snack & a few beers and watch the loveliness that serves it. I was so glad when the town I live in FINALLY got a Hooters. Saw Def Leppard in Chapel Hill (Dean Dome) on their Adrenalize tour early 90's. It rocked and had the sexiest women of all concerts I've ever attended and thats quite a lot in late 80's 90's. Wish You two nothing but health, happiness, and joy in your step inti parenthood. You will do fine. Take care Brad& Lex! Btw people who are scared of women's breast are probably people I should not interact with just saying "HOOTERS" RULE😉
Clark=THE Perfect Guitar god and was my hero😊
Women THE PERFECT SONG..
I was 16 when I first saw it world 🌎 premiere on MTV.
I also had one of the most gorgeous looking of GOD’s most beautiful creatures laying on me at the same time😊
I like God🙏
My favorite ❤️ song 😊 Men can’t live without them.. WOMEN
1st X listening to this was the day after the album came out, cassette in my case. Homeboy pickd me &bro up for school, we stoppd at a park. Rolld & lit up🔥💨💨💨💨Good shit, Good song, Good album, “87”Good yr
🔷Guitar solo, BADASSERY, too bad u messd it up and broke fluidity
Watch that spell!
Hysteria was a huge album, huge tour, put them on top for a while
❤
Watch that spell! 😜😋😉
Hysteria is one of my favorite albums & "Animal" is my favorite song on that album.
This was the 1st single they released from the album hysteria and it didn't hit it big which is surprising I think it's a great great song but then they released pour some sugar on me and the album exploded
ANIMAL FIRST SINGLE UK
I'll take this song over any other from the album because, even though the drums are digital, it still has that Pyromania vibe from the 80's.
Rocket is a good tune from Hysteria
The best song on Hysteria...well, this and Gods of War. Thats pretty much it.
I GIVE YOU...WOMEN!!! LOTS OF PRETTY WOMEN!!!!
Please do more Def-Leppard
the reason I went out to ny this album... best tune on it
The first single released off if this album. I personally think that it's the best track on the album.
Yes its a horribly disappointing record. Women was awful the first time I heard it.
@Jon Late I disagree. But to be honest Def Leppard's first two albums were their best.
Great song
All the albums before Hysteria are the Top for this amazing band.
Hysteria was a better album in my memory than when I went back & listened again. All the singles were the good songs, the rest mediocre imo. After this album, just cookie cutter forgettable cornball top 40 pop rock.
EVERY SINGLE TRACK ON HYSTERIA ROCKED!!!!
Pyromania has been, and will always be, my favorite Def Leppard album. Love every song on it.
oh, yeah...we had Hooters in the 80s
“What’s that Spell “ not smell! 🤣😂🤣 it’s a common misconception!
The video with the song is perfection. The skate board kid is a few years until the early 90s. Kind of like a XMan comic. Not their typical cheesy video. Love the guitar solo too.
It looked like a Vision board, blank graphic, but the shape and build would put it in the mid 80s to late 80s, like the boards I had (Gonz, Go Skate) from them. By the early 90s, things started to get more street style, skinnier, etc. (yes...I geek out on such things)
This was the beginning of the end for Def Leppard as a metal band. The first three albums are the best.
I agree. I think that losing a guitarist and the drummer losing an arm... changed their direction a bit. This a good album, in spite of dipping below expectations.
@@woodymeadows9363 Rick is better than ever behind the kit
Cool choice. Like the reaction. Man 1986 was awhile ago already.
Can you belive Def Leppard was one of only two acts to have two Diamond (10,000,000) selling albums in the US in the 80s.
Leppard had Pyromania and Hysteria. The other was Michael Jackson with Bad and Thriller.
This felt more like the last single from Pyromania
Word to the wise. Need to do 5 minutes of research for each band if you didn't notice the drummer has one arm. They were at the height of their popularity with the album pyromania with sold almost 40 million copies after recording the album the drummer had a car accident on New Year's Eve that took his arm
Woman - Doja Cat 🐈⬛
What the hell is a doja cat?😂
Another great track off an album full of them. If not done so already, try the title track, Hysteria, if you have, go back to their first album for the serious banger, Wasted. They always deliver, enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
If you think this trash is good you should hear On Through The Night.
@@jonlate4581 i had that slbum the week it came out, I saw them open when they were unknowns, I loved their early stuff long before it became popilar. Hysteria is not trash, poor choice of words and to each his own
this album was SO SUCCESSFUL that people were debating whether or not Def Leppard had sold their souls to the Devil
I’d be willing to stake a LOT on this song playing like crazy in the strip clubs in the 1980’s, though I was too young to get in at that point. By the time I walked into my first, there was a lot of Nine Inch Nails playing. Lol
Lightning crashes by Live
Whats that Spell lol
watch that spell" is what they said.
Flip was a live version of Elected.
