Hi! I can't BELIEVE you're teaching this NOW! Just 2 days ago I was practicing how to avoid the curling in Tunisian Crochet and it wasn't working out. I tried Google and went searching for the solution. THEN YOUR NOTIFICATION CAME IN THIS EVENING! Wonderful Naztazia! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾 😘
This was the clearest most easiest Tunisian stitch tutorial I’ve come across. I’ve been trying to learn this sine last year. Thank you so much for explaining in great detail & more importantly, not moving too fast❤
I have tried Tunisian in the past. I love the simple stitch as well as this full stitch, but could not stand the curl no matter how many hook sizes I increased. Now your tip of doing a row of single crochet before jumping in seems like a no brainer. Wish I would have known this before. I will definitely try again. Thank you.
Hi!, Oh so glad I saw you advertised on the google info page Your clarity of voice an explanation impresses me I love it I’m a retired teacher some little picky about that I don’t criticize but I do like to complement thank you ever so much for being such a clear instructor I just subscribed I just found you I’m keeping you one question are there ways to make Tunisian crochet sweaters I saw it a long time ago and I lost every bit of information when my phone went bonkers and we had to clear it out and I don’t have the instructions anymore if you do I’ll come back to your site and maybe you can let me know you’ve got so many people and I’m brand new so I don’t know if you’ll be able to answer me but I saw it and it was deleted 😿from Mail and it had one version had a flap down color that wasn’t too big and another one looks like a male version of a Chanel sweater very simple and style Paso classic in good taste and I’ve tried to make my own pattern but I had trouble with my eyes occasionally so I think a well written pattern for me would do better well thank you very much and I appreciate what I’ve seen so far thank you for my new Crochet page PS I personally love Tunisian Crochet it seems to me to be between knitting and crochet simply in it’s stitch beauty Thank you again 😌
That is pretty cool I like that idea I’m going to have to use that when I do some more Tunisian I’m doing your one pattern is the shell with a little eyelet holes it’s the third video down if you would like to go see it shouted you out so people will know where to go to get the video I hope you are having an awesome happy happy sunshiny day love your work🧶🤗❤️
Thank you for all the hard work you put in to make your videos. It's much appreciated. You are so easy to follow. I'm new to Tunisian crochet I am following all of the steps but mine is still curling any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong. Thanks in advance for any help. From Ireland
Thank you! Most of the time it's due to either the yarn and hook not being optimal with each other, or, you need to draw up your loops much higher than you think you should. Maybe try a larger hook with the yarn you are using. Some stitches just naturally have a curl to them, in which case a few rows of a single crochet border around the edging helps flatten them down. The other thing is you can "block" your work. I have a video on that too: ruclips.net/video/8RmccoE2k9g/видео.html
Each and every tutorial you make is so easy to understand as well as practically do it. Thanks a lot for your efforts ❤️. And what a lovely nail paint 😍. Which shade is it?
With Tunisian crochet, I generally opt for a bit of a larger hook than suggested. If you get any worsted weight "regular" yarn in the stores, usually the suggested hook size on the label is something like an I 5.5 mm or J 6 mm hook. It probably would be a good idea to bump that up to a K 6.5 mm hook instead, since Tunisian crochet can curl if the hook is too small and the stitches too tight.
I usually end it the way most Tunisian stitches are ended. I have a beginner Tunisian tutorial on my channel if you search for Naztazia Beginner Tunisian.
Hi! This is my very first Tunisian crotchet attempt and I love your pattern! However, how do I bind the ending with the normal single crotchet? I’m making a scarf.
That's up to you and the look you are going for. If you started with a regular single crochet row, then yes, i would put a single crochet edging along the top to match the bottom edge. However if you started with Tunisian immediately with no sc row, then to bind off the top you can do loose slip stitches across as your final row
I’ve been trying this stitch and the end of my rows seem to be shrinking:decreasing. I think I haven’t been putting my last stitch on correctly. After watching this I think you just helped me figure it out. Any other experienced crocheters have advice for me?
I was getting confused until I realized... 1st row used 1st space and ended in either space or stitch but second row of pattern skipped first space and did both last space And stitch...simple but makes count correct!
Absolutely! They have extended Tunisian crochet hooks with a very long fishing wire looking cord that extends out of the hook to hold all of the excess stitches. As the stitches are made, they go onto the hook and eventually onto the cord. When the return pass is made, they go from the cord and back onto the hook (and surprisingly the loops are still of a consistent height and all).
Hi Donna! Thank you for this information. I do have a question, if you are making squares and the pattern calls to do one sc around the entire square (this might be depending on where the end is or unless you cute off then put the border on), would you have to do that sc around the beginning sc row? I hope that makes sense and is not a dumb question. Thank you!
Hi! I generally would put a SC around the 3 sides that don't already have one (and to match the first row, technically you would be putting the SC around facing the "back" or "wrong" side). Then I'd flip the piece around to the correct front side and put a row of single crochet around the entire 4 sides to suffice the pattern's requirement.
Hello Naztazia, Do you have. Video on how to manage a large number of stitches for instance; making a large rug? Is it the same process as working in the round where you pull through a certain number of stitches, then turn the work and repeat please? I should probably give it a try myself as it is only a hook and a piece of yarn, no shame in undoing the work and starting again, but there’s no point in it not working and me not knowing any other method. Thank you.
For a large number of stitches with Tunisian crochet, they have an "extended Tunisian hook" available. Basically it's a crochet hook with a long fishing wire attached to the end of it to hold the stitches. You can see this in my Guide to Crochet hooks video, starting at about 4 minutes into the video: ruclips.net/video/WyRptR7BI-s/видео.html
For both forward and return passes, I do a yarn over instead of a yarn under. Interesting because I've never tried a yarn under with Tunisian crochet, guess I'll have to do that to see if it produces any different results!
If you get the adjustable Tunisian crochet hooks, ultimately there's no limit to the number of stitches you can place on them, if you keep adding the extended fishing wire tubes to the end of the Tunisian hook. I think from a reasonable perspective, a king sized bedspread is about the maximum width I'd be comfortable handling.
Use a larger hook, draw up the loops tall, perhaps try a different yarn. There is always blocking too, and I have a tutorial for that: ruclips.net/video/8RmccoE2k9g/видео.html
You can end on any row's return pass once you have one loop remaining. Fasten off and weave in ends. Or you can place a single crochet border on top to match the bottom.
You are correct. Technically this would not be considered the "Tunisian simple stitch" because we aren't going under the front of each of the loops for the next row. Instead we're going through and in between the loops. Since it is a different position, someone decades ago decided to call this method the "Tunisian full stitch."
Here are three easy tips to avoid curling in Tunisian Crochet!

Thanks for this tip. I avoid Tunisian crochet because of the curling.
Lovely nail color too.
Omg love I was looking for an easy pattern to practice doing Tunisian crochet , thank you ❤️❤️
Now to find a tutorial on how to finish this off. Great tutorial thank you.
Single crochet a traditional row across the top which will act as casting them off the hook as well. Even add a second row if you want. Voila!
Hi Naztazia that is a lovely stitch. It would look great on a blanket.
I love the color you are using and the look of the stitch is beautiful. Thank you for sharing ! 😊

Hi! Big fan with a question. How do we make an afghan out of Tunisian stick if it’s only 20 stitches long? Thanks in advance.
You'll want to use an extended Tunisian crochet hook. I explain about them in my guide to crochet hook video: ruclips.net/video/_cXRPUbV6Ro/видео.html
Your nails are so lovely.

Hi maybe a stupid question but how can you make a big blanket with Tunisian crochet ? Where do you leave all the stitches ? Ty
Absolutely! They have extended Tunisian crochet hooks with a very long fishing wire looking cord that extends out of the hook to hold all of the excess stitches. When the return pass is made, they go from the cord and back onto the hook (and surprisingly the loops are still of a consistent height and all).

Beautiful, is this pattern okay for sweaters?
Yes, the stitch pattern produces nice soft items, especially good for sweaters.
Neat information.
Hey Donna, what happened to Teresa? I can't find any off her videos? I haven't done any crochet in awhile. I remember you and her alot.
I'm not sure what she's doing these days. Good to see you back with crochet. Thank you very much!
Fabulous
so vary nice
Can I use this same long hook for a blanket with 150 beginning chain?
How many loops can you fit on that hook?? Can you make our twin size Afghan?

Did you yarn under during the forward pass?
For both forward and return passes, I do a yarn over instead of a yarn under. Interesting because I've never tried a yarn under with Tunisian crochet, guess I'll have to do that to see if it produces any different results!
I was trying to do this last night from memory and got pretty close. I forgot to pull up the stitches tall.
I missed you. My subscription disappeared so added again.
Welcome back!
So do you just add a border to hide the color carries?
Yes, and I usually do a regular type of crochet border initially, like a single crochet around all edges, even though it's Tunisian crochet.
Great thank you

I went up 2 hook sizes and it still curls but not as much.
Did you do the 2 regular crochet rows, too? I want to try I out.
This is not simple stitch, correct? I have not come to learn this stitch before.
You are correct. Technically this would not be considered the "Tunisian simple stitch" because we aren't going under the front of each of the loops for the next row.
