    I remember watching Superman II in the movie theater and seeing Christopher Reeve flying and placing the American Flag back on the White House then talking to the President and then looking back up at the flag, he should have won an Oscar for that.

      Patrick Tormos Christopher Reeve? I definitely think that he deserved one. But you should have seen his speech at the 1996 Academy Awards right after his accident. When he was announced, the whole audience gave him a standing ovation.

    John Williams may started it all with the 1st movie but I have to admit Ken Thorns version is a little more upbeat. But without Williams, Thorn wouldn't have anything to go with. Thank you John and thank you for uploading this

      I agree John Williams is the master but, there is more punch to Ken Thorne version which makes it sound a little better

      @tsntana 3 года назад +3

      I don't think Thorne added anything really. I think the "extra punch" was due to what was lacking. The smaller orchestra made the percussion parts more noticeable and made the arrangement sound more militaristic.

    • @LFOVCF
      @LFOVCF 3 года назад +2

      I don't think it's fair to say Thorne would have nothing to go on.
      This theme is a master piece, but top composers can often do their thing, and had Thorne been given the first job, we would think it normal and love it just as much.
      Thorne certainly ran with this baton, and added some zing.

      The idea was in development with Ilya Salkind's version being layed out with Brainiac and Mr. Mxyzptlk as the main villains, and have Supergirl in it during the time Superman II came out. But than when Superman III was in script development around 1982 it just went to Brainiac, than to just Richard Pyror and a ultimate computer when it was released in 1983.

      stndrds79 don’t forget that the original themes were composed by John Williams. The more accurate credit would’ve been like this:
      “Music by John Williams
      Adapted & Conducted by Ken Thorne”
      That’s essentially what was done, even though Ken Thorne did create one or two of his own motifs.

      robert szvetics he did write these themes, but was unable to score “Superman II” due to scheduling conflicts with both“The Empire Strikes Back” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” At least, that’s the way John Williams himself remembers it. But he was glad that they would still use the themes he had already written.

      @Michael Kurland I heard Williams and the Salkinds had a falling out. That's why they got Ken Thorne. Also why Williams never returned for any of the sequels later on.

    • @darthkurland
      @darthkurland 4 года назад +2

      General Zod “Superman IV” actually did have three new themes composed by Williams himself:
      • Lacy Warfield’s Theme
      • Jeremy’s Theme
      &
      • Nuclear Man’s Theme
      All three were composed by John Williams, and then arranged by Alexander Courage for use in the film. The two also created concert versions of those themes, even though they have yet to be performed at any concert. The complete score is available from La-La Land Records for those who are interested.

    l truly love this theme, no matter who composes it, however l think his version has too many symbol clashes. Personally l don't think it needs it. IF you are a fan, hear first 5 notes or so, you know what is coming. l really don't care any other version of a Superman theme. l think when they make a movie (especially) they should ALWAYS use the base material from Mr. Williams! You never see them screwing with Star Trek or Star Wars, those themes are iconic, and so should be Superman's music! Thank you for the upload! Wish they had this on itunes, l'd buy it.
